Angelina Jolie in Ecuador on UNHCR goodwill trip

jolie12

Looks like Angelina Jolie’s big activity/trip for World Refugee Day (this Sunday) is a goodwill trip to Ecuador, to visit Colombian refugees. Angelina already made a UNHCR video earlier this week – and according to the UNHCR, she made the low-key trip to Ecuador on Thursday, and it was her second trip in-country as goodwill ambassador. Brad did not come.

LAGO AGRÍO, Ecuador, June 18 (UNHCR)- UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie has returned to northern Ecuador to see how the situation has changed since she was last in the country eight years ago and to raise awareness about unaccompanied minors and violence against female refugees.

The award-winning actress, who arrived in the city of Lago Agrío on Thursday, visited UNHCR field operations and the isolated community of Barranca Bermeja, located in thick jungle on the banks of the San Miguel River, which marks the border with Colombia. The little village hosts 34 families, most of them refugees from the violence that has plagued parts of Colombia for decades.

In Lago Agrío, capital of Sucumbíos province, she had a reunion with a Colombian mother whom Jolie last met here in 2002. “At that time she had a lot of hope for her future,” the Goodwill Ambassador recalled, while adding: “She was recently treated for cancer. She still holds on to hope.”

The award-winning actress also met with refugee women in a shelter for victims of domestic violence, which is a serious problem in the region.

Some of the women in the centre, run by the Women´s Federation of Sucumbíos, told harrowing tales of beatings, incest and other forms of sexual and gender-based violence. Some women even have to resort to “survival sex” to get lodging to feed their children. Others fall prey to sexual exploitation.

In Barranca Bermeja, Jolie spent time with the community and was impressed by their mental strength in coping with the suffering they had endured in Colombia. One woman fled after two of her family were killed – she did not want to lose any more of her children.

There are around 51,000 registered Colombian refugees in Ecuador, but UNHCR estimates that about 135,000 people are in need of international protection. This makes Ecuador the country with the largest refugee population in Latin America. Many of the Colombians live in remote settlements in the north, like Barranca Bermeja, often too scared to seek help from UNHCR and its partners.

“It’s been eight years since I was last here and UNHCR’s presence has grown considerably,” Jolie noted after her arrival in Ecuador. “They are going into the thickest parts of the jungle to reach the refugees, who are living in very remote locations and in desperate conditions,” she added.

“I wanted to come back and meet with vulnerable people and focus on violence against women and unaccompanied minors,” Jolie explained. “I am so happy to be able to reconnect with some familiar faces, refugees I had met with during my 2002 trip.” Single women, girls and Afro-Colombians are among the most vulnerable of the refugee population.

Jolie will be taking part on Friday (14:00 GMT) in a global live video link from northern Ecuador with Washington, DC, Damascus in Syria and Dungu in north-east Congo. The event, which includes refugees as well as High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, is one of UNHCR’s top World Refugee Day events this year.

Yes, I think the live event has already passed, and it wasn’t for mass public consumption. All I could really find was a note on some of the government sites about the live chat, but you needed, like, government clearance to get in. My bad! FBI agents are probably going to raid my house because I was trying to access a private chat between Hillary Clinton and Angelina. Whoopsie, Feds.

For more photos from the trip, Pop Sugar has a few more.

    EGH

DON’T REALLY CARE FOR HER PREDICTABLE MOVIES

  2. Claudia says:

Oh! I love Angelina Jolie, she is an amazing woman.

  3. Praise St. Angie! says:

she always looks so happy (fulfilled?) when she’s doing this work, spending time with the people she’s speaking out for.

I’d bet that in the not-too-distant future, she makes THIS her “career”, instead of doing movies.

  4. irena NL says:

The most beautiful eyes and smile(teeth) ever!!!

  5. Melanie says:

Is Angie an Award Winning Actress? I couldn’t tell by the article.

  6. Chucha says:

From the pictures I can see that she’s lost the ability NOT to act. Every expression looks tense and acted. I know this because quite often I have that myself and I know I am pretending and acting at the time because for some reason don’t feel I belong to the situation. Just an observation.

  7. Alex says:

    Kimberly:

but yet you are the first one to post on a thread about her. You haters are so predictable. Time and time again Jolie continues to own you all butts lol

  8. Alex says:

1, 2,3 and yep here come the Jolie’s haters in spade lol

  9. LOVE ANGELINA says:

<3<3<3<3<3 Truly inspiration. I mean to be sexy as hell and compassionate, giving, talented, and awesome. Amazing. I hope to do something similar with my life but since I cut in front of old people (who are walking to slow btw) I got a long way to go. Something tells me Angelina would let them go through, waiting patiently for them to walk ahead of her, I just don’t have patience to be behind old people in line. Anyway… I Love Angelina and she really has been instrumental in bring awareness.

  10. Lisa S says:

She looks happy and so pretty in these pics. Keep up the good(will) work Ange!

  11. Jeri says:

    Melanie:
Do you think that has to be included in every article? Obviously you know her history so why the snotty question.

  12. cedar falls says:

And then it’s home in the fuel-guzzling private jet to the palatial mansion (flippin’ the metaphorical bird at the estimated 25 MILLION environmental refugees in the world) to put on the sparkly blood diamonds to promote “Salt”, a movie all about how violence is, like, totally bad and everything. Oh wait…

  13. Melanie says:

I am glad to see she is eating a cheese burger, even if it does look plastic.

  14. Melanie says:

Umm..Jeri, in paragraphs two and four the lead sentence is “The award winning actress”. Don’t you find that silly?

  15. OC lady says:

Yeah, she’s been “acting” for 10 years now!–major eyeroll. It’s funny how the non-fans keep trying to make her seem like the worst person ever, and they always fail. She’s been doing this for 10 years, starting when she wasn’t so famous at 25. That says sincerity to me. She might be really strange and daffy, but her heart seems to be in the right place.

  16. jacky says:

    She is surch a liar!

    PR for “Salt” – disgusting!

  17. meme says:

“low key” trip? i don’t think so. saint angie ho never lets one of her charitable deeds go unnoticed.

  18. susieqinBA says:

She is such a FAKE! She does this for show!! She lives in a Barbie Doll fantasy world and Brad is her “Ken” doll. She has no sensitivity or consideration for people’s feelings or emotional state. She cannot relate to these people’s lives: it’s all about HER and people who think she’s doing such a “wonderful work” are so fooled by what they see! I’ve got some beach front property in Lousianna and Mississipp I want to sell you, got an oil lease on the property! I’ll give you a GOOOOOOOD deal!

  19. mln says:

wow a long way to go for PR for a movie when she could go on any talk show… So far this year she has been to Haiti, to Bosnia, and now Ecuador all to promote this movie that doesn’t come out until summer OR maybe she is passionate about helping refugees???

  20. irena NL says:

They gave her something to eat! Funny! Outside of the first world countries having some meat on the bones equates to life, skinny equates to dying. Wise wouldn’t you say!?

  21. Ellie says:

i’m not sure what all the hate is about. even if you don’t like her, or think she’s fake, she’s still doing good. quite frankly, people suffering in 3rd world countries don’t have the option of picking which celebrity makes their plight aware to others. i highly doubt you’re making an effort (p.s. donating $15 to the spca doesn’t count).

and yes, she’s an award-winning actress because she kicked butt in ‘girl, interrupted’.

  22. Nancy says:

God there’s just something about her I don’t like and she makes shit movies.

  23. Toe says:

    @Nancy. That is called ENVY!!

  24. Maritza says:

I wonder when will she adopt a Hispanic kid? Hope she does someday soon.

  25. cprincess says:

Who cares what her motives are( and I happen to think they are OK) anything or anyone that raises the issues of the horrendous injustices of the world is OK with me…

  26. Reality Bites says:

She is a UN Ambassador for UNHCR. The role entails going to refugee camps around the world to bring awareness to the plight of these refugees. So if she is there, with refugees and the picture makes it into the paper or on this site. Then job well done Ms. Jolie. And then she usually also donates money towards their individual needs to the camp as well as funds her missions. So another sucessful mission to add to your list of 32 other field missions spanning over 10 years and 22 countries.

  27. Kim says:

Celebs, please use your fuel guzzling private jets to go on holiday to resorts. FYI AJ usually flys commercial on UN trips thats why there are always paparazzi pics of her at LAX. Thanks Angie for returning to Ecuador and catching up with some of the people you met on your last trip.Pic @ people.com I think this makes 40 UN trips to meet with refugees since 2001. Keep up the good work.

  28. lucy2 says:

I agree Praise, she does look happy. Not a fan, but I do think she cares about the refugee work she does. Like all people, I think she has her good points and bad.
I also think she’s looks prettier than she has lately, I like the headband and little to no makeup.

  29. The Truth Fairy says:

Say what you want about her, but she is trying to make a difference in this world.

  30. M says:

It’s so easy for people to be so negative when they are jealous or have low self esteem. Try doing something good for your community instead of hating on someone who doesn’t even know you exist.

  31. Praise St. Angie! says:

    “That is called ENVY!!”

sigh…is it “envy” when we all bash Megan Fox? is it “envy” when we all bash Kate Gosselin? is it “envy” when we all bash Miley Cyrus? is it “envy” when we all bash Dina Lohan?

no, it’s not. people are entitled to NOT like someone for reasons that are NOT jealousy. lord, that is a tired argument!

  32. She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named says:

@Praise St. Angie, wow, you just lost major credibility with that argument.

Comparing Miley Cyrus to a UNHCR ambassador, and that IS what this post is about, is beyond bad logic.

    I’ll stick with ENVY.

  33. ctkat says:

She always looks so beautiful when she is doing the UNHCR work- she’s one of the rare women who looks much better with almost no makeup.

The trolls are going to troll about her…

  34. Toe says:

Well, i do think it’s envy…. we women (80%) always have something to bash and bitch (celebitchy) about that is why the websites has mostly women celebrity on it. So we can bash and bitch like women (for ages). So it is partly envy (40%)

  35. Toe says:

Oh and my comment was just bitching/ bashing about some other comment. Oh, and it’s a joke….

  36. alexandra says:

@susieqinBA With all the money that she has. She still does goodwill work. She travels to dangerous war torn countries risking her life to bring awareness. Be honest, What are you doing to contribute with a good cause?
Since misery loves company you are in good company. I exclude myself and the non haters.

  37. lisa says:

The world would be a much better place if everyone was as “fake” as she is..

Give me break.. She has been doing this for years. And she does not need to trek in the jungle to get PR for a movie (which is not due to be released for weeks) that logic is beyond reason. ONCE AGAIN.. the UNHCR documents her visits.. and pics are not usually released until she has left a particular place.. This is done for SAFETY reason.

But why bother.. Haters need to find something to bit@h and moan about. And they are usually on EVERY thread long before the fans.. man it must be a 24/7 job keeping track of someone you don’t like.

    WOW

  38. alexandra says:

@Praise St. Angie This fits you.
“Jealousy is simply and clearly the fear that you do not have value. Jealousy scans for evidence to prove the point – that others will be preferred and rewarded more than you. There is only one alternative – self-value. If you cannot love yourself, you will not believe that you are loved. You will always think it’s a mistake or luck. Take your eyes off others and turn the scanner within. Find the seeds of your jealousy, clear the old voices and experiences. Put all the energy into building your personal and emotional security. Then you will be the one others envy, and you can remember the pain and reach out to them. ~Jennifer James

  39. phlyfiremama says:

Go Angie! Do whatever you can to shine light in the dark corners of the world while haters sit at their computers and whine, of course doing nothing themsleves to improve humanity’s condition. Fly on your pirvate jet so that you don’t have to be assaulted by the paparazzi 24/7 , that is one of the LEAST of the “evils” you commit compared to the attention you bring to truly desperate situations. FYI, she won an Academy Award (ie, Oscar) for her movie “Girl, Interupted”.

  40. Brittney says:

“saint angie ho never lets one of her charitable deeds go unnoticed.”

Although you have no idea if that’s true (because by definition you wouldn’t know about her anonymous or unpublished charity work/contributions), the publicity is the whole POINT of these trips. For ten years she has been taking the enormous amounts of media attention (and income) generated by her celebrity status and re-directing it toward the millions of people who get little to no media coverage (but who need and deserve it the most). She knows it’s ridiculous that cameras follow her everywhere and that so many people see her face every day, so she’s forcing that attention onto a cause (and its real-life heroes) that most tabloid readers otherwise wouldn’t know or think about. That’s admirable, not phony.

  41. Praise St. Angie! says:

to she who must not be named…

I realize that they are not on the same level, but my point stands. there are other reasons, besides envy, that lead to the dislike of someone. yes, the reasons for hating the ones mentioned are obvious…

…but just because Nancy didn’t list hers doesn’t mean they are any less valid than the reasons for hating the others I mentioned. It also doesn’t mean that the reason is “envy”

let’s go the obvious route, shall we?

is it envy when the “team jolie brangeloonies” go off and bash Aniston?

  42. sharylmj says:

go Angelina!! you do awesome work and you bring issues to the front of the table and raise awareness for those poor people who can’t do it for themselves. The world needs a lot more people like you who can use what they have been blessed with to help others in a BIG WAY!!! any charitable act no matter how big or how small or who is doing it is a good thing, we are here to help each other.

  43. Praise St. Angie! says:

alexandra, how does that fit me, exactly?

because, see…I’M not the one bashing Jolie. I wrote of how happy she looks when she’s doing this work.

perhaps you should read a little more closely at WHO is posting WHAT. does your cultural anthro have any tips on that?

to Toe – sorry if I didn’t pick up on it being a joke. I’m just really tired of anyone who says “oh, yer just a jellis H8R!!!”

it’s not always that. There are plenty of celebs I don’t care for, and it has zero to do with jealousy.

  44. lrm says:

Okay, if she’s seeing some of the SAME ‘familiar faces’ she saw 8 yrs ago when she was there, I’d say UNHCR Ecuador needs to change it’s formula-lol.

People do live as refugees for decades…i know.

but just sayin’….8 years later, same refugee faces=not good!

Yes, it is good that they are still alive, but still living in camps, in the remote jungle?

  45. Melanie says:

What exactly did Praise say that stirred up the loon soup?

  46. susieqinBA says:

@alexandra: I have a work in the making that will do FAR better good than Angie could EVER do and it will bring her to shame and expose her for who and what she is; no, this IS NOT jeasouly (that is a childish response to throw up jealousy) what could I possibly be jealousy about her? I have more than this woman could ever have. She needs to go home and deal with her kids (her play dolls) emotional issues!

  47. Cakes says:

She looks so natural and beautiful in the header pics. Although an extra 15 lbs wouldnt hurt either. I will admit that I am very envious of miss angelina. I wish that I could work with refugees and do charity work at her level. I admire all people who are charitible with their time and work to make a difference in someones life. I dont believe that she does this just for P.R., I believe she does this work because she wants to bring awareness to the struggles of other countries.

  48. Lizzy Bee says:

“Angelina has been doing this for ten years…” Doing what for 10 years? Showing up at a refugee camp to have her picture taken, and only moments before her next movie premiere. How is that helping anyone? I am so sick of all the “attention” this user calls to refugee situations. In 10 years, she has yet to speak of a specific strategy or offer a concrete solution for getting these people some help. What’s the plan, bimbo…. and why are you people so naive?

  49. CR says:

Poor, poor susieQ. Do you realize how much you have opened up yourself to ridicule with this pathetic post.

PS: I suggest you ask someone to explain that to you.

  50. CR says:

Just for you LizzyBee, since you asked so kindly:

Jolie first became personally aware of worldwide humanitarian crises while filming Tomb Raider in Cambodia. She eventually turned to The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the agency mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide, for more information on international trouble spots.

Since 2001, Jolie has been on field missions around the world and met with refugees and internally displaced persons in more than 20 countries, including Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Cambodia, Pakistan, Thailand, Ecuador, Kosovo, Kenya, Namibia, Sri Lanka, North Caucasus, Jordan, Egypt, New Delhi, Costa Rica, Chad, Syria, and Iraq, to name a few, and most recently visited earthquake victims in Haiti on her latest trip to help survivors of conflict and natural disaster.
The Jolie-Pitt Foundation, formed in 2005, is dedicated to eradicating extreme rural poverty, protecting natural resources and conserving wildlife. The Foundation supports Doctors Without Borders, an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971. The organization provides aid in nearly 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters.

    (cont’d)

  51. CD says:

Lizzy Bee, Angelina’s last movie released in 2008. She had no movies release in 2009 but she continued her unhcr work like always. And “doing this” mean helping people. She’s funded a school in Afghanistan and Kenya, built a millennium village and aids hospital in Cambodia, traveled to over 20 countries to visit with refugees, and donated millions of dollars to charities. I’m not going to list all the projects she has started or been involved in but the information is out there for anyone who wants to search for it.

  52. mln says:

@Lizzy Bee How do you explain her trip to Haiti in January, and Bosnia in March well before promotions for Salt started. Her job at UNHCR is not to end the wars that cause refugees to exist that is the job of elected officials around the world. Do you really think that the UN or the prez of Ecuador gives a flying hoot that she has a movie coming out?I think you are being a little niave about why the UN asks certain celebrities to work with them and how much control they have over AJs’ trips.

  53. CR says:

Still with us Lizzy? I know you might have ADD and even AHDD but hang in there. There’s more. Its The Jolie, afterall.:

Over time, Jolie has become more involved in promoting humanitarian causes on a political level. She has regularly attended World Refugee Day in Washington, D.C., dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world, and she was an invited speaker at the World Economic Forum, an annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland which brings together top business leaders, international political leaders, selected intellectuals and journalists to discuss the most pressing issues facing the world including health and the environment in 2005 and 2006.

Jolie began lobbying humanitarian interests in the U.S. capital, where she met with members of Congress at least 20 times from 2003.

Jolie also co-chairs the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which helps fund education programs for children affected by conflict.

Founded in 2006 at the Clinton Global Initiative, annual meetings have brought together more than 100 current and former heads of state, 14 Nobel Peace Prize winners, hundreds of leading global CEOs, major philanthropists and foundation heads, directors of the most effective non-governmental organizations, and prominent members of the media.

In 2007, 19 organizations made a commitment worth $148 million to educate 350,000 of the children out-of-school in conflict areas and help improve the quality of schooling for nearly 700,000 additional children.

  54. DD says:

Are these recent pics? Omg she looks like the old Angelina… breathtaking. I take back my previous cougar comment a couple of blogs ago…

  55. CD says:

why didn’t my comment show up?

  56. susieqinBA says:

Just because someone says the truth about someone does not mean they are “haters” of that celeb or individual or are they “judgmental” or “judging them”. Some people see through a person and they are not fooled or deceived by them because they have wisdom; but others are foolish and they make ridicule and critical remarks against those with wisdom because they want to be fooled and be deceived.

  57. OC lady says:

It seems she gets the most negative comments whenever she does charity!?

I think the people who dislike her want her to look as bad as possible, so they stop at nothing to attack her charity trips. If she wanted fame and PR, all she has to do is an interview or a charity commercial in Hollywood like many other celebs. That would do the trick. Instead, she travels to dangerous places like Burma, Colombia and Iraq. She’s also donated something like 8 million dollars in one year, started a girl’s school, etc. Of course, the people who dislike her will paint everything she does as fake or motivated by self-interest. I don’t buy it. She did this before she became mega-famous and is still continuing. While her detractors have spent yrs trying to make her look as bad as possible. What a waste of time, if you ask me.

  58. lisa says:

    OC lady..

    nicely said

Nothing else to add. but I knew the minute her thread went up this would be the result.. Same old .. same old..

  59. Liana says:

Not a big fan of hers, but certainly don’t hate her. As a person who strives to do as much humanitarian work as I can, I appreciate the face she puts on the issues that are out there. There are some issues that would still be little known if it wasn’t for the fact that people like Angelina Jolie bring attention to those issues.

But I do have to say that just because someone doesn’t care for someone else, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are jealous or envious.

Why are my comments awaiting moderation so often? I don’t think I ever really say anything inflammatory and I can’t figure out what the key words are for moderation.

  60. Beth says:

I love how the haters insist that Angelina causes all of the problems in the world and she can fix them with the snap of her fingers. It’s insanely hypocritical how there’s one set of rules for Angelina and another set for all other celebrities. She doesn’t live and do anything differently than others yet somehow she’s evil. They all fly in private planes, live in mansions. Everytime a celebrity do these humanitarian trips they just meet with people, tour the village. I haven’t heard Leonardo Dicaprio, George Clooney, Matt Damon telling the world how to solve world poverty/hunger and environmental issues.

  61. HotPockets says:

I love the comments about the post, there hilarious!

I’ve always been an AJ fan, that girl use to carry a vile of Billy Bob’s blood and made out with her brother on national tv, what’s not to like?

  62. Whatever says:

Why do the haters seem extra rabid when AJ is on a UN or other charitable mission? I don’t believe she is doing this for publicity for a few reasons. First, she has done it for so long and so consistently. PR stunts don’t last a decade. Second, she was already a working movie actress with a successful career ahead of her that she would have had with or without this work. The implication that she needs to do these things to maintain her career is ridiculous. Haters need to back off and maybe go find a charity or organization for the needy and help out.

  63. Mistral says:

Why don’t people get that the UN uses these people PRECISELY for their celebrity? This is the reason they take them on these “missions”. So that they can photograph them, and release those photos to the world–the world which is more interested in entertainment than serious issues–and grab attention for said serious issues, charities, etc. Because they believe in the cause, many celebs are willing to do these trips instead of hanging out at LA hotspots to get papped. It’s called using the insane amount of interest people have in you, and using that celebrity for a good cause.

  64. Kimberly says:

I guess no one saw the shepherd’s wife or changeling?

um ya her acting wasn’t the best.

  65. viper says:

The one thing I’ll say about my fav hollywood personality- I am glad she’s finally always smiling. I don’t ever want to see her in pain again. She had such a trial; finding herself ( which most of us fail to do ) her fathers public treatment of her, the questioing of sanity, divorced numerous times, being a step mom then being a single mom, having a career in hollywood, goodwill, the death of her mother/best friend. Whatever you opinions of her are: she’s truely a hollywood success story. She’s someone that went down as low as you can go and came up ALL ON HER OWN.

  66. Morgs says:

    @Melanie
    God Bless you.

  67. N.D. says:

Oh my! If only we could find the way to translate all this energy into power we would have gotten Nobel prize for invention of perpetuum mobile and saved the world from upcoming energy crisis. ‘Cause that Bermuda triangle seems to be the endless source of tension.

Can you imagine a giant battery made of Brangeloonies and Haters connected to their respective battery terminals through sockets in the back of their skulls, their minds engaged into eternal battle over AngelinaBradAnniston forcing their bodies to produce emotional energy that is captured and transformed into power that is used to light up the cities and feed the hungries?

  68. Rose says:

I never saw the shepherd’s wife, but she was pretty bloody good in The Changeling.

  69. Cruisin Through says:

As an actress, I think she’s extremely over rated and average at best. But as a humanitarian, not sure how anyone can bash her. If underpriveleged people get something out of it, who cares what her motives are? She pumps alot of money into charitable organizations, which can’t ever be a bad thing.

  70. crash2GO2 says:

    @N.D.: ROTFL!!!

@susieqinBA: Why do you feel the need to compete with someone else who is also doing charitable work? It seems you feel threatened by Angelina Jolie. I say God bless you both and go in peace. Sheesh.

The instant the word ‘hater’ appears in a post I know the rest of the post is going to be a worthless biased rant. I can’t believe the fail in this thread.

  71. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

Why does she deserve more praise than the people who actually work daily in these environments, volunteering their time. Fine, it is great she is trying to help, but their are people who work the trenches every day, who do not get the praise or their pictures taken. There are doctors, volunteers, aid workers of all types that are the ones actually working. Not her. Great she brings a face to the cause. Boo at those of you who forget that their are actual people doing good deeds who get nor want, no praise at all for their contributions.

  72. Liana says:

I don’t forget that there are people doing the hands on day to day humanitarian work. I’ve been one of those people. But bringing a face and publicity to the cause is important, too.

  73. KIm says:

Well Fluffy link me to a website that profiles the workers in the trenches and I ‘ll go there and write comments praising them . This website focuses on celebs. FYI the move was The Good Shepherd not Shepherds Wife and I thought her role was a supporting one but her acting was good. Deniro just stated he wanted to work with her again in the sequel he’s writing.Proud to be an Angie fan

@Kim- I never even metioned The Good Shepherd, so I have no clue to what you are talking about.

As far as linking you up, you obviously have a computer, access to Google and Yahoo, right? You link yourself up! I have family members who did a great amount of work for Haiti. I resent some actress getting high praise, and the people who do the REAL work getting none.

You want to compliment them, have the inteliigence to do it without having been told to.

  75. Lilias says:

I think the trouble is that people see her sitting there “caring” about these people for a couple of hours and then leaving on a plane to go back to her luxurious life.

I don’t care if she does charity work or not. Great for her. What I don’t care for is the idea of this “awareness through celebrity” thing. It doesn’t matter which celebrity it is. I’m no more aware of the plight of refugees and poor people in other countries when celebrities go there than I am with them when they don’t go there. I don’t need Angelina Jolie to tell me to care. And I resent the fact that anyone feels that celebrities are somehow more important or have more clout than someone who actually works with refugees every day of their lives.

I disagree with someone up there who said that donating $15 to the local SPCA doesn’t count. EVERYTHING counts. Every bit of charity counts. Some people work two jobs and can barely eek out those $15. Don’t discount anyone’s charitable contribution. Those $15 could mean the difference between some dogs getting a few extra days of food and care and possibly being adopted instead of put down. Some people can only go down to a soup kitchen once or twice a month and hand out food.

So yes, great on her for her foundation that helps people and great on her for donating money to build schools and such in impoverished areas. But man am I bothered by the celebrity “meetings” with poor people.

  76. trouble says:

jay jay wow you know alot about her just from seeing her on TV or maybe your progjecting?

  77. e-non says:

to you nitwits yammering about jolie’s trip being for p.r. purposes. duh! that’s the purpose of her association with the united nations and the reasons she goes on these trips. to bring public attention to forgotten people.

that that particular point seems to escape so many is a mystery.

  78. Orbit says:

    Can canonization be far behind?

Ecuador is a really lovely country with ample resources. It’s just that the top 5% of the country is controlling all the resources.

  79. GrrrlGrace says:

I am not an Angelina fan, so to speak; however, I find it hard to believe that someone would haul her “Barbie Doll” as* to these hell-holes and witness unthinkable circumstances for PR. Hollywood is FULL of fabricated PR moves that are much safer and less hands-on, and I don’t see what would make her so different from the rest if she is simply acting and doing it for PR.

As far as the comment about someone “knowing” she is acting by the looks on her face, that is the funniest thing I have ever heard! My thoughts go directly to the family photo album, where we all laugh and explain why we have certain looks on our faces. It usually involves what just happened or what was about to happen. Honey, you could be making big bucks elsewhere if you could accurately do this.

  80. Josephina says:

How in the world can any one of you simple-minded people criticize ANYONE who is willing to help those less forutnate than you?

Angelina has been consistently committed to her role as UNHCR Ambassador for over 10 years…and yet, you still criticize…what exactly? How much her life has changed because of her involvement? The fact pictures taken are a REQUIREMENT in order to raise concerns —- would you read her comments if there were no pictures?

Her celebrity status is EXACLTY what is needed to reach people like you— to get you to at least talk about these forgotten people. We need more people like her who care. May her actions continue to inspire others to get involved. And for those who cannot see the point of what she does, may you be relevant in your own world. Let’s hope that you can find someone that you can inspire by your actions.

  81. Mrs Odie 2 says:

I don’t care if Angelina Voight makes bad movies or adopts children or is anorexic or is willing to sleep with other women’s men. If she brings help and relief to women and children who are being beaten, raped, and starved, then thank god for her. Those poor people. How would we know about their plight otherwise?

  82. Hum says:

AT the end of the day does her life affect yours in any type of way.sheesh.It is a recession -we are at war-we have bigger fish to fry.

  83. lama says:

    @Mrs Odie 2:

I understand that it can outgrow your intellectual capacity but if you make a mental effort to watch the news or read newspapers (not tabloids) you will learn amazing things about the contemporary world including the refugees …

  84. Majosha says:

@lama: It seems your “intellectual capacity” doesn’t yet include the ability to detect exceedingly obvious sarcasm.

  85. Alis says:

    She is the best mom

  86. Holly says:

“who cares what her motives are?”

Uhh…motive says a lot about a person. I don’t dislike her work. A dollar that goes in a good direction is a good thing, and I’m sure no one in that country complains. But it doesn’t make her a good or admirable person. What’s so hard to understand here? I can’t prove she’s terrible. I don’t know her. But I can’t go by these well-publicized trips as “proof” either. After all, she’s not the first or the last person to do this sort of thing in hollywood. I think that’s the only point most of her detractors are making…

  87. CR says:

@ holly…..”After all, she’s not the first or the last person to do this sort of thing in hollywood. I think that’s the only point most of her detractors are making…”

Alas, no dear holly. Thats not the point the detractors are making at all. In fact, some of those very same detractors are not even trying, like other detractors, to hide their real point.

That real point being…….they still cant let go of a going-on-6-year-old-divorce that wasnt theirs, and mourning the death of a marriage that wasnt theirs, and feeling ‘hurt and humiliated’ by it all on behalf of a self-absorbed, self-centred, low self-esteem, insecure, 42 year old woman-who-refuses-to-act-her-age and grow the fcuk up. And who categorically state that people like the said detractors “make her skin crawl”.

Thats all. Nothing more nothing less. C’est la vie!

Meanwhile, in those same 6 years, you can google all the accomplishments and achievements of Brad and Angie and their delightful family.

What to do……..some people learn and grow and move on. Some. Dont.

  88. WTF?!? says:

Gee, St. Angie wouldn’t be having a movie coming out soon, would she, that her “humanitarian works” are suddenly front, center and ubiquitous again?

I will say, these trips represent some of her less stagy acting, but are unconvincing nonetheless.

  89. Angel says:

OK. If she’s been “acting” this convincingly for 10+ years, then she’s a better actor than Meryl f’in Streep!

  90. Atishi says:

just say hey…….. no words and no comments……

  91. najat says:

i love you angolina jolie you are the best actor and the best women i see in my life .my name is najat bay te care
