I just wanted to gush about a few people that I’m so happy about – Christina Hendricks! YAY! She totally deserves that Emmy nomination, she’s been rocking the Mad Men house for three seasons, and she’s become one of my favorite characters. And John Slattery! I have naughty thoughts about that Silver Fox, for real. And he’s so talented and beautiful, just a lovely actor. I’m also happy to see Sofia Vergara from Modern Family – she really is hilarious on that show, and I worry sometimes that people won’t see beyond her lovely and epic rack to understand she’s a deft comedienne. That being said, Jane Lynch will probably win that category. Also – Modern Family’s Ty Burrell! YAY! He’s been a character actor for so many years, and he just found his role with this dorky, strange, hilarious dad.

Disappointments: That no one beyond Matthew Fox, Terry O’Quinn or Michael Emerson from Lost got acting nominations. It would have been wonderful to see some of the other actors get recognized, like Elizabeth Mitchell, or Jorge Garcia, or Josh Holloway (I just want to see that motherf-cker in a tux, though). And no Ed O’Neill from Modern Family? WTH? He’s another extremely underrated actor who should have been recognized for his DECADES of great television work. Also – I would love to see some of the other actors from The Closer get recognized, Jon Tenney in particular (he plays Fritz, Brenda’s husband). Oh, well.

  1. Kaiser says:

Also – no Holly Hunter for Saving Grace? What the hell?

  2. Sarah says:

Who’s the guy in the picture right above Christina Hendricks? He’s lovely.

  3. jen says:

    No Tudors??!!! WTF?

  4. Kaiser says:

Sarah – Matthew Morrison from Glee. I think he’s wearing mascara.

  5. JaisyMaisy says:

@ Kaiser…I thought the same thing about the mascara. And methinks I detect a bit of smokey gray eyeshadow under the old peepers too.

  6. Celebitchy says:

Matthew Morrison is sporting a little eye makeup, damn. Thanks so much for covering this, Kaiser. I’m so excited for Bryan Cranston from Breaking Bad and hope he wins for best actor! Also Aaron Paul is amazing in that show and I would love for him to win too.

  7. denise says:

JOhn Hamm is one fine piece of man meat. Who did Will Schuster’s make up, does he have on blue eyeliner?
    🙁

  8. denise says:

    @ Sarah

That’s the actor from Glee, Matthew Morrison(I believe)
OOps your question has been answered already.

  9. a says:

    Mariska Hargitay!

    Daily and Colbert show too!

    yay!

  10. CC says:

I’m so happy Chris Colfer got recognized! He’s a wonderful young actor and a great inspiration!!!!

  11. Josie says:

Elizabeth Mitchell got nominated for Lost! Look at Guest Actress for Drama series! Elizabeth Mitchell, Lost, “The End”

  12. Sarah says:

Thanks everyone! lol. I’ve never watched Glee but I might for him. He’s cute 🙂

  13. snappyfish says:

I love Sheldon from Big Bang Theory and all the Modern Family nods, but do agree that Ed Harris should have gotten a nod as well. He is wonderful in that show.

  14. e says:

    January Jones…seriously?

  15. lucy2 says:

Wow, I’m actually REALLY pleased with a lot of these nominations!
VERY thrilled that Connie and Kyle got nominated for FNL, it is so overdue it’s not even funny.
Yay for Amy Poehler, though I wish Parks & Rec as a whole was nominated, but I’m happy with the category anyway.
Happy for the Lost guys, but they could have filled the whole supporting actor drama category, there were so many good performances on it.

  16. CC says:

    @Sarah-

If you think Matt’s cute then wait until you see Mark Salling!

  17. Rachel says:

SOOO excited that Connie Britton & Kyle Chandler were nominated from Friday Night Lights. My only complaint is that FNL should have been nominated for best Drama. As much as I love the shows that were nominated, FNL is the BEST show on tv!

  18. Anti-icon says:

I’m really impressed with the noms, and also how many greats were ignored. I hate, hate reality TV, so this kinda shores up my hope that dramatic creative arts in TV is alive. (Love Mad Men, Lost, Modern Family, Colbert and Stewart!!!!!)

  19. julie says:

@e, i thought the same thing. i love mad men but jones, not so much. and where was the love for katey sagal? it really really ticks me off that she was overlooked when she was miles better than any of those women that were nominate. i mean, january flipping jones but no katey sagal?? what does sons have to do to get some recognition?

  20. meme says:

gimme a HAMM SAMMICH right now! he’s sooooooooooooooooo handsome. no love again for christopher meloni who’s been great on SVU for years (what do they have against him?). am i the only one who hates breaking bad?

  21. Jean says:

    @ Rachel,
    I agree wholeheartedly!
Friday Night Lights is probably the best show ever since The West Wing went off the air (for me personally that is).
It’s nice to see Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler finally get the recognition they deserve, although a best drama nominaton would have been nice too.

  22. Oi says:

Has Kiefer Sutherland won for 24? If he hasn’ t I think he should have been. The writing wasn’t his fault.

With the exception of True Blood for best drama, I like it. (sorry, I just don’t see the awesomeness of TB. Its the best melodrama out there for sure, but i don’ think it lives up to the rest of the nominees.)

And as soon as I got thinking about it I found another one: John Noble for Fringe. He should be there.

  23. Karen says:

I was purposely late for work so that I could watch the nominations announcement. I clapped til my hands were sore especially for Connie & Kyle from FNL (woot!!) and Tonight Show w/Conan. Justice for Team Coco!!!!

Take that Leno! Put that in your pipe, shove it into one of your 400 cars and drive it off a cliff. Ooh, did I cross a line??

  24. Obvious says:

OMG Mark Salling *drool* Between him and Matthew do we need to go elsewhere???

I’m excited fro Jim Parsons. I finally got my bf hooked on BBT after he watched Sheldon try to teach Physics to Penny. best. show. ever.

  25. julie says:

while i wholeheartedly agree with all the glee love and drooling for matthew morrison and mark salling i have a huge geek crush on harry shum jr aka other asian. i could watch him dance all day.

  26. Shay says:

I don’t know how being a cranky bastard aka Hugh Laurie in House, is classified as acting. I stopped watching House at the end of the first season. If I want to watch a sarcastic old bastard, I can always visit my crazy uncle.

  27. Rachel says:

Phew! I am so relieved Jim Parsons was nominated. He IS The Big Bang Theory! As much as I love Matthew Morrison, Jim better win!

  28. denise says:

    @ Shay

    LOL!!!

  29. Chicoulina says:

I’m so happy Eric Stonestreet Cameron from Modern Family is nominated! He’s hilarious!!

  30. sassenach says:

I really hope Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston win! I love Breaking Brad and Aaron is one of the best young actors working.

  31. Atticus says:

Damages has been one of my favorite shows for the three seasons it’s been on. So bummed it looks like it’s been cancelled, but really happy to see the nominations for the actors from the show! Maybe it’ll be saved a la FNL…

  32. Sherlock Derrrrrr says:

I always cheer for The Daily Show, but Id love to see The Tonight Show (With Conan!) win! LOL

  33. Mur says:

Is it just me but does anybody think the guy from Glee looks like Orlando Bloom?

  34. Kate says:

I’m not a huge tv person, but I watch a few. I watch Glee. I want to like it more than I do. Jane Lynch is fantastic and should win an Emmy, but this Matthew Morrison guy? I mean, honestly, he is a big reason why I don’t like the show more than I do. I hate his character and I really don’t like the job this guys does with him.

Lea Michele is supremely talented and she deserves a nomination.

Other than that, this list strikes me as the same old same old. It is the same shows and people every.single.year.

Oh, the only other comment I have is that if Terry O’Quinn doesn’t win for his Fake Locke/Real Locke double duty this year, something is seriously amiss.

  35. Musey says:

My glee (ha) at Chris Colfer getting his own nomination is mostly enough to outweigh my disappointment that nobody else from Lost got recognized. I know there are only so many slots, but Jorge Garcia really did deserve a nod, and it makes me sad that there’s no recognition at all for Nestor Carbonell’s amazing performance in the Richard-centric episode.

I had thought it might have had to do with his being promoted to regular from guest star in the last season, or else he might have had a shot in the guest star category, but Elizabeth Mitchell did get nominated in that category and I’m pretty sure she was considered a cast regular too. Oh, well. I’m glad she was recognized somewhere, at least.

  36. Eileen Yover says:

I’m with Jen: Where’s The Tudors? And I’m surprised none of the True Blood cast isn’t in the running!

And YAY for Michael C Hall in Dexter…freaking LOVE that show!

  37. Cue says:

    Ah, Breaking Bad…
This made my day! Aaron Paul deserves it for supporting actor. Bryan Cranston has won 2 Emmy’s so far, though I’m happy he was nominated, again, this year.
They also go a couple of other nominations for directing and …and but what about the amazing writing? BOO! Vince Gilligan truly was robbed!

    ETA
I agree, wth wasn’t Ed O’Neill nominated, (Modern Family)?
Anyone here ever saw the short-lived: “John From Cincinatti?”.
He was amazing in that, also.

  38. julie says:

oh, and also angry about no love for timothy olyphant and walton goggins. justified rocked because of them. ok, sorry for multiple posts…

  39. hstl1 says:

Did anybody from Sons of Anarchy get nominated? That show is amazing. And Adam Arkin and/or Henry Rollins should have been nominated as guest stars.

The nominating committee sucks. Pick some shows with talented actors.

  40. OC lady says:

    I love Christina Hendricks.

I’m rooting for The Tonight Show with Conan to win. It would be the perfect revenge–combined with the fact that Leno’s ratings have fallen below that of Conan’s. Go suck it, NBC!

  41. tachwr says:

i hope Lost wins big. But i’m disappointed that there is no nomination for evangeline from lost. i like elizabeth mitchell but seriously- a nomination for about 10 ok-minutes on screen only in the finale?? I think matthew and terry really deserve it, not so sure about emerson this season- he wasn’t really the old ben and therefore a little boring. Where is the nomination for Sawyer?? His line: “right, because THAT would be ridiculous” must be worth a nomination…

  42. katyalia says:

I miss Alexander Skarsgard and Josh Charles there.

    And really, January Jones?!

  43. Kolby says:

    Where is Nestor Carbonell?

  44. Bee says:

I am one of the few people who actually think January Jones does an excellent job of playing Betty on Mad Men. Yes, her portrayal of Betty Draper is remote, cold, and wooden. But that’s who the character is! Betty is remote, cold, and wooden. She is like one of Hitchcock’s “cool blondes.” Beautiful, distant, and broken. Betty is dead inside, and JJ depicts her as such.

  45. GrrrlGrace says:

Would have liked to see Merritt Weaver (Zoey) from Nurse Jackie.

  46. dj says:

Where the H*** is Katie Segal from Sons of Anarchy? Seriously, the woman is doing Hamlet and also gets gang-raped, etc., etc., and truly is bad-assed and no nomination. Ridiculous! Also, agreed with Julie re: Timothy Olyphant on Justified. He is fantastic and was as well on Deadwood. Ugh! Same old people over and over again.

  47. Conando says:

    Sons of Anarchy
    The Tudors
    Treme
    Community

All of these were snubbed of show and acting noms.

  48. Chris says:

I hope Aaron Paul wins. I love Jesse in Breaking Bad. He has such a great range, from laugh out loud comedy through to heart breaking drama.

  49. velcrodots says:

I would have just wished Sandra Oh got recognised too, other than that go Glee!

  50. Music says:

Happy for Modern Family, Breaking Bad and Chris Colfer from Glee. However if Matthew Morrison wins, the Emmys have lost all credit. He dosen’t do anything worthy of a nomination. Chris plays “Kurt” perfectly he can make you laugh and cry.

Mr Shue (Matthew) makes me roll my eyes. Also Glee DOSENT deserve to be in a comedy category, its more drama with a few laughs thrown in. Jane Lynch is awesome but she has been for years. I still love “40 year old Virgin” and her in it.

I guess they only have this chance and one more to give it to Steve Carrell since he is jumping off “The Office” sinking ship while he still can. I don’t get how “The Office” and “30 Rock” continue to be nominated when they stopped being funny years ago. The worst episode of “Modern Family” is better then the the best “30 Rock” has done in 2 years.

Also Chris Noth should been nominated for “Good Wife”.

  51. Mrs Odie 2 says:

I just watched seasons 1 and 2 of Breaking Bad in a week long marathon. It is an intense show! I love it.

The acting in True Blood is horrible. Over the top, laughably bad. Everyone is doing a different Southern accent (badly). The show borders on porn and is hard to watch.

I don’t get how The United States of Tara is a comedy.

I will be so happy if Conan wins.
