I read People’s report of the press conference featuring the latest nanny to file a civil suit against Rob and Sheryl Lowe, and came away with some hope that this case might get interesting. People makes it seem as if the alleged victim comes across as believable, saying that Boyce “trembled and nearly hyperventilated” throughout the press conference.
Then I saw a clip on TMZ, and like Allred’s appearance with the first nanny on The Today Show, she ran the whole show and managed to make it seem like it was her idea to file the suit. Allred didn’t let Boyce answer any questions, and when she tried to address a question about whether she was betraying a boss who brought her to the emergency room after being beat up by a boyfriend, Allred actually covered Boyce’s mouth and said she wouldn’t be fielding questions. Throughout the interview Allred held Boyce’s hand, putting her arm around her like she was a child.
Boyce’s emotional state was so overwrought that it seemed just as inappropriate to the situation as Jessica Gibson’s elation on The Today Show. She was breathing heavily and looked like she was freaking out.
Laura Boyce worked as a nanny to the Lowes for seven months last year. Boyce alleges that Rob Lowe’s wife Sheryl created a hostile work environment which included discussing her sex life and walking around naked. Sheryl Lowe says that she finds these charges “sickening and disgusting” and that the allegations that she used the “n” word to describe Boyce’s boyfriend are patently false and particularly bothersome to her.
Even if these women are telling the truth, Gloria Allred is ruining their chances at a fair settlement by so aggressively courting the media.

I suspect the lawsuits are to some extent Allred’s idea. She reminds me of those lawyers who advertise to get clients who may have worked with asbestos and then add them to the class action lawsuit because they might someday develop a lung problem. If the job was bad, why didn’t these girls just quit? And why is it, months later, so traumatic that they tremble and cry in public? They were not raped, they were not molested. At most they were exposed to inappropriate behavior. But they’ve peeked into the Lowes’ pockets and they figure this is a way to get some of the cash. I don’t believe either of them.
Neither do I, Syko. Nothing she described was worth near hyperventilation. It’s a money grab, pure and simple. They are hoping if they say enough, the Lowes will settle to shut them up.
As for the claims themselves, I guess since I’ve been a nanny for many families, I know that the work environment is more more intimate than say a secretarial job. These families tend to look on their employees as family and it’s easy to blur the lines. If anything Rob or his wife did or said bothered these girls, they should have said something.
But I still don’t believe anything did.

Maybe because she was lying and was worried she’d forget her lines. That would cause someone to tremble and hyperventilate too.
I don’t like this one bit and think your point, headache, about the lines getting blurred in a domestic, intimate nanny situation, is very valid.
What’s bothering me most though is the daily blackening and compromising of the Lowe’s names, when there’s still nothing concrete to suggest that these girls are telling the truth. As for Allred – greedy, opportunistic, manipulative bitch, with an eye on the main chance.
Yeah, you guys. This makes me sick. I can’t believe the nannies wouldn’t speak up and say, Hey, I feel a little uncomfortable when you (insert action) in front of me. It’s all about professional courtesy. Normally, I would side with the victims, however the victims are the Lowe family. As for Gloria Allred, I wonder how she can sleep at night, knowing her job is to drag people’s name through sh*t, on purpose (and it’s always possible) with out merit.

Gloria Allred is exactly what I do NOT want to be when I become a lawyer (assuming I don’t kill myself before getting through law school). Lawyers like her give the others who actually want to help people a bad name.

Alfred is such a sleaze and she gets worse and more deperate every year. I hope at the end of the day – if these claims are found to be bogus – Alfred is sanctioned and fined heavily. A censure wouldnt hurt either. Gives all lawyers a bad name.
It’s nice to see that Nanny Boyce had the energy to work her appearance at this difficult moment in her life. She must have passed her comb through her hair 200 times for each little folicle to be perfectly in place. I’ll give her bonus points for the lovely make-up and elegant clothes. Some girls just don’t make the effort when they’re traumatised like this.
The nanny’s first words were “I can’t believe she is doing this to me”. I don’t think she ment Ms. Lowe I think she was talking about Allred was making her do.
Maybe Nanny Boyce should go into acting, she sure knows how to turn it on. On second thought, maybe she shouldn’t the world already has enough “Over Actors” and we don’t need this one.
Just Pathetic
Had the same reaction as all of you. Boyce was ‘acting’ like she’d been raped and or brutalized but what she is claiming and suing for just doesn’t warrant such seeming distress, imo. My guess is that Gloria realised that the first chick wasn’t believable and coached this one to look distraught etc. only she laid it on a bit too thick.
As cc mentioned above, the real victims here are the Lowes.
The nanny is such a pathetic loser. Even if her allegations are true, it did not warrant that extreme reaction and it definitely isn’t even worth suing over. I hope this idiot gets countersued for dragging their names through dirt. Although I think the general public are on the Lowes’ side and realize this pathetic attempt to get money from them.
