Since you guys enjoyed yesterday’s Helena Bonham Carter (and Colin Firth) post so much, you get another one! Yesterday was not only the photocall for The King’s Speech, but they also did the UK premiere yesterday too, at the London Film Festival. Helena wore Vivienne Westwood, of course, to the premiere… and I don’t hate it. The skirt is actually really interesting. I would have liked to have seen the whole outfit in black, but since it’s HBC, I’ll live with the tartan. I actually laughed the whole time I looked through the photos from the premiere – HBC is making hilarious faces throughout most of the photos, and you can tell that Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush really enjoy each other’s company. At times it seems like… HBC is going to push an attitude, though. And that worries me. It’s one thing to be quirky and eccentric, but it’s another if you promote a film – a film that is a wonderful chance for HBC to get an Oscar – like you’re too good for everybody else, or that you’re over it. We’ll see.
Meanwhile, Colin Firth was looking especially dashing and lovely. He walked most of the red carpet with his beautiful wife Livia, and then he posed with HBC and Rush.
Firth and Rush might have gone to second base at one point:
And Hugh Dancy and his wife Claire Danes made it to the premiere too. Claire is in Prada. And neither of them are in the film…? Weird.
If I can just take a moment to judge the potential Oscar campaign… let me say Colin is in very good shape. He’s being dashing and charming through red carpets and photo calls, he’s being a good sport about his promotional duties, and he’s playing the King of England during World War II. All of this is catnip to Oscar voters. Please give this man an Oscar. I don’t really care if HBC gets one – and I suspect she doesn’t care either – but I really, really want Colin to win.

She’s not the type. And doesn’t rely on others opinions regarding her craft. A truly unique woman. Would love to see her get an Oscar or at least a nomination so we could see what she wears!
I had no idea Hugh Dancy and Claire Danes were married! Guess they didn’t get very much attention…
cant wait to see the movie
She was nominated early in her career for Wings of the Dove so it is possible.
HOLLA! I dont think Head Bitch In Charge cares… and really why should she!?! she is SHE!! LOL
But I so do want Colin to win… and these clothes he is wearing lately *swoon*
QQ-I love “Head Bitch in Charge.” That’s great!
I love HBC, no matter what she’s playing. I’d love for her to get an Oscar. She doesn’t have to actively campaign, but I swear she’s looked so pretty on the last 2 red carpets, I think she might be subtly campaiging in her own style.
I put her up in the ranks of my favorite actresses, along with Helen Mirren, Angelina, and Meryl. She brings it, no matter what…and I love her as Bellatrix. Fantastic.
If she did the Oscar thing, I can actually see her wearing a really conservative outfit just to shock people
I LOVE Colin’s acting!!! lovelovelove!
I would love to see Colin win too. He is looking good!!
HBC is a trip, I love watching her antics… why should she care? She does what she does for the love of the craft not for the glory of it from all the famewhores…
I’m far too Canadian. Everytime I read ‘HBC’ I keep thinking: “Hudson’s Bay Company?”
Well… both HBC’s are national treasures, and part of their respective nation’s proud history, I suppose…
After seeing the Hamm penis post, I can’t stop looking at other actor’s crotches. Somehow, that seems wrong with Colin Firth.
She will always be Lucy from “A Room with a View” sigh….
I prefer her getting the Oscar than Nat Portman.
My, I love both Helena BC and Colin Firth sooo much! I hope they each win an Oscar!
Where did my comment go????
I <3 Colin. I love love love him!
I would never have recognized Claire Danes.
She has been nominated twice I think. I would love to see her win. She has an incredible range Howard’s End to Bellatrix LeStrange anyone? I can’t wait to see this movie!
I love love HBC!!! I think she is one of the most under-rated actresses today. She is always utterly believable in whatever role she takes on. I’m looking foreard to this movie.
I really hope Helena never vies for an Oscar. . . it would just take something away from her beautiful free spirit.
*Confession!* As a kid, I loved the idea of acting – taking on another persona and living life through a different perspective. There was a time in my life when I thought acting was my true calling, and I worked diligently to hone my craft. (You know, spend way too much time inside on nice days watching old movies.) Now that I’m older, I’ve developed a sudden and irrational case of permanent stage-fright (perhaps because my antics as a young adult thrust my real-life in the spotlight of my peers?), but when I “escape” on blogs like my beloved Celebitchy I love to read about the eccentric actors, especially HBiC. I’d like to think that in some warped, twisted parallel universe, Helena Bonham Carter would be my mentor, and I her doting protege. And we’d laugh at all the Hollywood drones shelacking their bodies in plastic and debasing themselves on the casting couch in hopes of bringing home a a tiny gold statue.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, I really admire the hell out of Helena for pursuing a career she loves without getting destroyed by the machine. We should all be so lucky in our own lives.
(. . . I mean she made Mel Gibson’s Hamlet for me! Even though I’m a diehard fan of Branagh’s everything I wish HBiC and Winslet could pull a switcharoo. . . damn!)
omg she’s so cool! I hope she gets an oscar…
I LOVE her! I really hope she does get an oscar or at least gets nominated this year
She’s too cool for the Oscar school…
She’s due for one of those body of work Oscars. She should’ve received one for her portrayal of Marla Singer.
Please now a days the oscars for the most part are a joke where they used to be based on talent and were an honor to receive. Helena Bonham Carter is deserving of one but will never win. and besides in Howards end she got lost between Emma Thompson and The Redgraves {correct Vanessa who was nominated for best supporting actress and her Niece Jemma both appeared in the film}
I agree with Bellatrix; the Oscar’s are the biggest BS event in acting.
And Claire Danes and her husband both have the same “stick up the ass” look.
