George Clooney says he ‘couldn’t do what Brad and Angie are doing’

Star Magazine must be making deals with a lot of celebrity publicists because they’ve sure been scoring the A-list interviews lately. A few weeks ago they seemed to have one of the first interviews with Jennifer Aniston in years. Their most recent issue features an original interview with George Clooney. Interviews with Clooney are a dime a dozen but still remain fun as anything to read. The 47 year-old star is promoting his new Coen brothers film, Burn After Reading, which also stars Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, and Tilda Swinton. It’s out in the US on September 12.

Clooney told Star pretty much what he always says to the same old questions people have been asking him for years about his personal life and lack of desire to have a family. He also made some funny quips about his co-star Brad Pitt and the fact that his Lake Como villa has become a tourist attraction. As for getting older, Clooney said he loves his wrinkles and gray hair because it gives him character and that he’s not about to get Botox. He doesn’t struggle with his fame, but admitted it kind of bothers him that people have preconceived notions about him:

Clooney with an unidentified reporter

You reteamed with your friend Brad Pitt after your three Ocean’s films together. How was that?
Brad is a great comic actor. You have to have a sense of humor when you’re the father of 15 kids – have you heard how many he and Angie have now? – and your pockets are filled with rattles and Legos. I’m glad Brad had a chance to do this film. I start to worry when I hear him humming bedtime lullabies to himself.

You’ve admitted to being driven by your work. Do you ever feel that you’re sacrificing your personal life for your career?
Everybody wonders about that but me! [Laughs] I feel I’m doing exactly what I want to. I have a lot of great friends, and I enjoy the kind of freedome I have to live pretty much exactly the way I want do. I couldn’t do what Brad and Angie are doing. I wouldn’t have the patience or the dedicatino that you need to take care of a family. I admire those qualities in other people, but it’s not for me. It’s just the way I am.

You spend much of your free time at your villa on Italy’s Lake Como. That must be relaxing.
Sometimes. My villa is now a national tourist site – I’m probably going to open my own amusement park and sell Clooney dolls and memorabilia to take away some strain from the area. But I just appreciate the way Italians enjoy life. We should all learn the beauty of the four-hour meal.

Other than having your vacation home mobbed, how does your fame affect you?
I’m a pretty open guy, and I like meeting people. But it disturbs me a bit that there’s this whole image that people have of me in their heads that it takes a while to break down. And you usually don’t get that time unless you’re working with them.

You’re 47 now. Does getting older bother you.
I don’t mind it a bit. I love my gray hair; I love the fact that my face has more of an edge and more character than it did when I was in my 20s and 30s. No Botox for me!

I get the impression that with Clooney what you see is what you get. With every interview I read, he gives consistent and low-key responses. He’s suave, funny, and in command, but he’s not misrepresenting himself or putting on airs. He knows his worth, yet he’s still willing to work for his hard-earned success. This is the guy who did over two hours worth of interviews on the red carpet at the Oscars this year. I saw him talking to a German interviewer who was asking very in-depth questions and he was both patient and thoughtful in his responses. He’s a bit of a cad, but he’s a loveable one and he’ll have fans for years to come.

Yeah, I think Clooney is kind of a douche who *allegedly* really likes to pay for a lady’s time, but I still kind of love him.

“I’m glad Brad had a chance to do this film. I start to worry when I hear him humming bedtime lullabies to himself.” 😆 😆

  2. daisy424 says:

Agree Kaiser, he does remind me a little of Cary Grant with the gray hair.

  3. geronimo says:

Ditto, kaiser (apart from the ‘allegedly’) 😈

Not that it matters but I don’t think this is an exclusive for the Star. I’ve read bits of this interviewette in a couple of other places (the Mirror and I’m sure some other paper over the weekend.)

  4. Kaiser says:

@Geronimo – Hey! Did you see Ms. Pettigrew this weekend? I did – and it was fabulous. My new crush is Lee Pace.

  5. geronimo says:

Kaiser, not yet, still to see it. You loved it, right? Was she amazing?

  6. Kaiser says:

@Geronimo – Loved it. Amy Adams stole most of the scenes, though. That’s okay, because Adams really is a cutie. Also, I had forgotten that Cirian Hinds was in it, and he’s one of my favorite character actors – he was wonderful, too.

Back on topic – In these pics, Brad looks a decade younger than Clooney, yet is only what? A few years younger? What is it that ages Clooney? The *alleged* hookers? The bromances? Or just the grey hair?

  7. geronimo says:

LOL, Ciaran Hinds! Another one of mine, very brooding and slightly dangerous (and has also done quite a bit of tv work with another fav, Helen Mirren.) But, enough.

Re Clooney, it’s the hair I think. But then again, he’s always looked like he’s in his 40s, even when he was in his 30s. I like that he’s got a bit craggier and less chocolate box, much sexier I think. I like ’em scruffy and rugged. And it’s the Ang-love that’s keeping Brad all glowing and fresh-faced… 😀

  8. Kaiser says:

“And it’s the Ang-love that’s keeping Brad all glowing and fresh-faced…” – so being under vadge-hypnosis is good for the skin? Good to know! 8)

Ciaran Hinds (or however you spell it) is in one of my favorite Jane Austen adaptations – Persuasion.

  9. Granger says:

Ciaran Hinds was also Rochester in a version of Jane Eyre that I saw recently. I think it was BBC??? Anyway, he was fabulous.

You know, I just can’t think of Clooney as a “cad.” Sure, he goes through women faster than my son cycles through diapers, but so what? We don’t know how he treats those women. He’s probably a fabulous boyfriend, if all you’re looking for is a year or two of expensive fun. He senses that he wouldn’t have the “patience or dedication” to give to a wife and kids; so rather than just give it a shot because, hey, that’s what you’re supposed to do, he’s made a conscious decision to remain single and childless. There’s nothing wrong with that. I’ve said it before, but what the hell — the world is already filled with enough assholes who don’t spend enough time with their children.

  10. Kaiser says:

I agree, Granger. Clooney seems like a fun boyfriend. I just wish he would have expensive fun with smart girls with great personalities (ME! ME! ME!).

  11. Granger says:

Sounds like you and I might have to fight over him, Kaiser. 8)

  12. Kaiser says:

@Granger – First one to break into Lake Como? GO!

  13. KERRI says:

Love his eyes. They look EXACTLY like his Aunt Rosemary Clooney’s.

  14. czarina says:

Is any older unmarried man assumed to be gay? I don’t really see why. I mean, take Kevin Spacey. He does Broadway shows, has never had a female companion and attends awards with his mother. (not be mention groping Croatian guys)
    Okay, gay.
(not that there’s anything wrong with that!LOL)
    But Clooney?
Has there ever been any real indication that he’s gay aside from not being married?
As I said (jokingly, but I meant it), if he WERE gay I wouldn’t care, but it seems unfair to judge someone based only on their not being married.

  15. Chamalla says:

Lee Pace! Hell yeah! Pushing Daisies will be back soon….. *dreamy sigh*

Ooh, topic! I love George. I’ve said here before that I have plenty o’ man friends who are cads, they’re great to be friends with, but I’d never date any of them. Not everybody is built to be faithful to one person their whole lives, at least he’s not hurting anyone he’s committed to. That was a lot smoother in my head….

He is a handsome devil, though… Kaiser and Granger, I’ll tackle him, you kiss him….. I’m a big midwestern girl, I have the hips for tackling.

  16. anony says:

The media keeps hectoring George about when he will marry and settle down. It’s so boring. it’s like my grandma asking my closeted gay uncle when the he will marry and he smiles sheepishly and mumbles something about ‘oh, I need to meet the right one! Someone like you!” and we all just roll our eyes so hard it’s kind of funny. George needs to keep living the fat life and the media needs to leave him alone with that already.

  17. Buttercup says:

Meh. Clooney isn’t all that hot in my humble opinion. Give me Johnny Depp or Clive Owen any day!

  18. Cat Steccato says:

Ok, so did everyone forget GC was married to a great looking, talented, entetainment personality, that is correct he was married and for more than a few minutes.

Then again, why not get married, have kids, get divorced, you know the whole hollywood and middle america type lifestyle, keep the press in $$$$.

LOL, I think he gets better with age, not as pretty, more of a man, and have if a bit of a cad, well….

  19. Thanks for another informative site. Where else could I get that type of info written in such an ideal way? I have a project that I am just now working on, and I’ve been on the look out for such information.

  20. 27.) You made some decent points there. I looked on the internet for the issue and found most individuals will go along with with your website.
