Michelle Williams was hands-down one of the best dressed women on the Oscar red carpet. This white-silver Chanel was exquisite. After the Golden Globes debacle where she wore that daisy-and-seashell Valentino, Michelle needed a fashion win. The Chanel fits Michelle beautifully, it was glamorous and exciting, and Michelle added so much to the dress with her platinum pixie and her perfect makeup. Michelle was a trooper too – you could tell that the beading on the dress was super-heavy, but Michelle walked in that thing like a champ. Anything for fashion, bitches! My only complaint is that Michelle kind of ruined it with her mouth. Something funky was happening with her mouth during her red carpet interviews – she was talking in that little-girl voice that she sometimes pulls, and she even had a very “affected” lisp. I wondered if she had gotten something done to her lips or mouth, honestly, and I swear it looked like she had some lip herpe or something for a moment.
Another thing I loved: Michelle’s date. Her date was her BFF Busy Phillips. Old-school Dawson’s Creek in the hizzy! I don’t know who did Busy’s dress, but it’s nice too. I so love that Michelle brought a girlfriend as a date. That’s adorable, in my opinion. And you know Busy is probably a great Oscar date too!

I think Michelle’s dress is completely blah and does nothing for her.
I love that Busy was her date! I agree that I bet they had a great time.
Ugh, from the hair to the makeup to the boring dress, everything about her is so BORING.
the entire sillouette and material of her dress are beautiful… BUT i wish the neckline were abit lower. the top is kind of boring and conservative to look at….
also i agree with you, something odd was going on with her lips!
Haha the last picture is priceless. The poor girl is sucking in her stomach so hard it looks like her eyes are gonna pop out of her skull. Or maybe the dress just makes it look that way in this pic…
Also, I’m not really feeling this Michelle Williams fragile-little-girl thing, it’s getting a bit old…
Michelle is such a pleasent looking woman but she should smile more. She always has that look of “I’m here because I was told to be here”.
She looks fabulous!
‘Exquisite’ perfect word to describe Michelle’s dress Kaiser.
Seeing her and Busy get out of their car was my fav red carpet moment.
I don’t really like the dress. I think the whole sleeves – shoulder-boobs area is weird. And the colour is too pale for her skin and hair.
I don’t think it was exciting at all, it was her same old style, just more glitz. I did love her hair and makeup though. Good for her bringing Busy for her date!
I could not get beyond her voice. The word ‘affected’ came to mind immediately. She is one step away from being Madonna with her faux-upscale-‘I’m British’ accent. Please, Michelle, drop the fake voice.
The dress was just ok for me. I wish she’d try something else for once. I see her and always think “Rosemary’s Baby.’
@merski – yes! Fragile little girl – you hit the nail on the head. I can’t stand it coming from a grown woman.
L.O.V.E Michelle and her Chanel. She looks amazing. Perfect actually. She is drop dead gorgeous. I to love that Busy Phillips was her date.
sorry but that dress is boring
I loved the dress on Michelle. And this so far for me, has been her best look this award season.
Now Busy.
Bless her heart.
Does Tom Ford gives classes on how to pose for women? (Cause I know he taught Colin Firth how to pose.) And Firth can pose like a pro.
Poor Busy has no inner confidence when it comes to being photograph.
She hunched those shoulders up to her ears and looks a little off.
The dress was fine. But she looked grossly uncomfortable having her picture taken.
For once she actually looks classy, not high school.
My main issue with her look is that it is so blah. I think the problem is that she set the bar so high with her first Oscar outing (that mustard yellow dress with the red lip-stunning) and she is judged by that parameter.
@Merski, yeah, agree with you re fragile little girl act.
I wanted to like this dress, I really did. And it was O.K., but I think it was the neckline that hurt it- when you are petite and have such a pretty face and short hair, you need a bit of a v-neck or a collar or something. It was all too “pixieish”. I really hope The Gosdong isn’t actually dating Michele Williams because I’m beginning to think she’s boring as hell.
I think her hair and dress wash her out, and I am do not a fan of her exaggerated, extremely dark eyebrows.
I do not like it. She looks like a gosht. Girl needs some strong color.
She needed more color. The dress and her skin were way too similar in tone and the cap sleeves were blah and there was no shape. Just not feeling it.
No, the dress is not right for her. Maybe for someone taller – say Nicole Kidman who is all arms and legs. For Michelle, the dress would be helped by a bit lower neckline and shorter sleeves. And more fitted.
And the way she’s holding her mouth or something about her jawline makes me wonder if she had oral surgery or something. Maybe some cosmetic procedure gone awry.
Watching her shuffling down the red carpet was painful. Then she spoke. She sounded brittish one second, then lisping and whispery. Complete wierdo.
Great hair and makeup. The dress looked boring up close but from far away very pretty.
Boring. She looked faded and the dress shape was boring, also.
This dress is ugly IMO
The dress looked nice, but Michelle W. could barely walk in it. Her voice/accent was annoying.
Her choice of date was cute, tough.
I thought the dress was boring. It lacked something to make it stand out. And the shoes didn’t go with it.
I know many actors are shy and lack self-confidence, but this little-girl-hurt affectation was awful.
This was probably her best look during the awards season. It was def a little boring but at least it wasn’t ugly like the dress she wore to the GG’s. On another note IMO Michelle got robbed. She is a waaaaayy better actress than Natalie Portman. I think Natalie gets more praise because she does more commercial films and is more conventionally attractive. Black Swan and NP’s performance in that film were really overrated. Sigh…
I LOVE BUSY!!
They make a perfect couple. Michelle does the little girl lost thing, and Busy is all, “HEY GIIIIIIIIIIRL! LET’S DO JELLO SHOTS!”
How old is she? Late twenties? She looked mid-forties here! See also Katie Holmes, and maybe it’s an ironic old-before-your-time Dawson’s Creek thing…
I think Michelle is gorgeous, but she seems a littl closed off, Still like her though.
Love the dress. Isn’t Michelle making a movie about Marilyn Monroe? Might account for the whispy voice.
Michelle’s dress is lovely but the styling fit is wrong. Her boobs should have been lifted and the bulky beading under the arms creates a very strange illusion of side fat. Busy’s dress is…busy, but she wears it well.
she looks flawless and deserved best actress.
She looked ethereal! However, I didn’t watch the pre-show, so I missed her interview. However, I can see how her persona could take away from her beauty.
boring and ugly dress. fab hair and makeup
Are we looking at the same dress because Michelle dress is boring old fashion and ages her at least 10 years I couldn’t find one thing about it that I like, not to mention it looks like all the other dress she wore this award season.
the woman is getting dowdier by the day
busy’s got a bodacious big-ass booty! 😆
yeah, not a fan… i think this dress would have worked wonderfully with a red head.. maybe even nicole kidman, who is fragile looking enough to pull this off but a bit more mature looking than michelle to make the dress really pop
Pretty dress but yes, boring. Loved hair and makeup.
Michelle’s hair, face and makeup= gorgeous. Best I have ever seen her look. Finally got the hair color to a flattering shade. But unless you are a dowdy 70 old grandmother, you should pass on a dress like that frumpy, ugly thing. Michelle is so young and adorable…why do this? Those sleeves…ugh…have got to go. Recut the whole top part and you might could salvage it into something that is just vaguely blah rather than utterly grandmotherly.
I love those two together!
Busy’s is beautiful but have this particular on the front that really piss me off and ruin the total picture.
Michelle. Where should I start?
Please change hairstyle, I’m so damn sick of it. And the dress.. meh, I don’t particularly love it.
Stunning dress, but not a fan of the minimal-makeup-with-pale-dresses trend this year. Makes these beautiful women look so washed out.
LOL…Busy looks like one of those barbies when you pull the head off and then can’t put it back on again like it was…then you push the head on the neck all the way so it doesn’t get lost or falls off and the poor doll ends up looking like she has no neck…LOL…!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love how the light plays with the dress. i only wish it wasn’t sleeved. If it was sleeveless with a low neck line or maybe off the shoulder, or maybe strapless, i would gush all over this dress, and maybe wear it on my wedding day. during the reception 🙂
Busy – she’s always been awkward -but i love that michelle took her bff
The dress was beautiful but she’s done this look before- OVER AND OVER again just shorter!
I loved the dress. Very much her style.
I was wondering who her ‘date’ was. Initially I was, like, “Why would she bring Natalie Maines?”
Btw, I was watching 1997’s A Thousand Acres last night, and two young daughters in the film are played by Michelle Williams and Elisabeth Moss. Was very excited to see this oddball early pairing of promising actresses!
I think they both looked great.
Love the dress and the pixie cut but she needed some more vibrant lipstick to look less washed out.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who noticed the voice weirdness. When I heard her talking, I was like “WTF, she has an accent?”
This isn’t my favorite dress of the night, but I do think Michelle wears it quite well. It’s SO MUCH BETTER than the one she wore at the Golden Globes.
she looks like a vanilla soft-serve ice cream cone. some dramatic makeup would have been a much needed jolt of color.
Perfection! Scarlett this is the way it is done. The end.
She’s a very pretty girl and I love that she can rock a pixie cut (most of us can’t…IMO, you have to have a certain kind of face to truly look good with short hair) but the dress was blah. She would look fantastic in something colorful and bright (like the mustard yellow dress she wore a few years ago).
I think that she looks good. But she seems stuck in this trend, and it’s getting boring.
Pixie-cut + fair toned dress that washes her out = Insipid as fuck, please do something different.
@Mimi: I agree. I liked Black Swan enough, and the praise and product made me curious to see if it was worth spending some time with her. Sure, but…I just wasn’t terribly moved it. You know that point in a film when you think, ‘I’m done, now’? But everyone it win, so there had to be something there.
What was crazy was Ryan Gosling wasn even nominated!
What I wish she had worn…

Did it for a bunch of oscar dresses.
