Kate Bosworth is now famewhoring Russian literature too

fp_7004097_bosworth_kate_pod_03_07

God bless the famewhores, for however else would we find the time to laugh? These are photos of Kate Bosworth heading into a hair salon over the weekend. It’s not JUST that The Bos called the paparazzi on herself, yet again. It’s not JUST that her famewhoring is now likely a psychological compulsion. What is really, really amusing me is that Kate pap’d herself… with a book! Because she’s so intelligent and so brilliantly well-read. The book? Mikhail Bulgakov’s The Master & Margarita, which is considered one of the best novels of the 20th century. It’s about the literal devil making an appearance in the then Soviet Union (it was written in the 1930s). And she brought it TO THE HAIR SALON.

You know how other women might just call and make a hair appointment and maybe bring their copy of Vogue or Cosmo to the salon? The Bos thinks you are a peasant. She will make her hair appointment, make the call to the paparazzi, POSE with a dark Russian novel as she’s going into the salon, and then… I don’t know. She probably just sits there, getting her hair down, saying things like, “My boyfriend is SO SMART, my BOYFRIEND is so handsome, but you wouldn’t understand…” and then she sticks her nose in the book and re-reads the same line over and over.

Look how she’s holding the book too – she wants us to the see the cover. Who holds their book like this?

She was probably “reading” it upside down and no one bothered to tell her.

  2. baby says:

    ughhh this girl

  3. francesca says:

It looks like she has some folded papers stuck between the pages, so that could be why she’s holding the book that way.

  4. Dani says:

Yes this was an obvious staged photo op but I myself always bring a book when I know I’ll have to wait somewhere for longer than 10 minutes. Usually when I have a doctor’s appointment. I’m simply not interested in fashion magazines. They bore me. Not every women is pretentious for reading a book in a hair salon.

  5. Samigirl says:

While we are on the subject of famewhores, I would like to tell Kaiser to get her slut shank ready. Last night, at dinner with my dad and beaux, at a popular restaurant in my town of Shreveport, LA (blind tiger-amazing food)I saw one (newly single) Jessica Biel, dining with …..Gerard Frickin Butler. Just the 2 of them. Uch. If I had been drinking, I would have had the courage to say something for you, alas, I was sober and shy 🙂

  6. Violet says:

I think you’re being cynical. Why can’t she just be reading a book. You don’t have to be a genius to read.

  7. Quest says:

OMFG….I did not even know that she can actually READS????? Let alone books without picture.

  8. Kaiser says:

    Samigirl – WHAT?!?!

  9. silken_floss says:

Don’t like her but I don’t hate her either. She’s just there. She’s riding the Skarsdong and I’m not. Get that Swedish peen, girl. I ain’t mad at her 😀

  10. whybenice says:

Hmm. Seems like that purse is plenty big to hold that book.

  11. Merry says:

“Who holds their book like this?”
Especially when you have a purse!! Use the damn thing, don’t just parade around with it.

  12. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

    Oh Dear Lord,

Here comes the wrath of Kaiser****

    Hiding under the desk*******

She wasnt reading the book ya’ll, she was simply using it as a carrying case for her grocery list… geez.

  13. Mia says:

She has a Kindle. Guess what book comes on the Kindle. That one! She just wanted everyone to know that she was reading (pretending to read) the same book her boyfriend called his favorite book.

  14. Jenna says:

You can hate her or whatever, but she got into Princeton. It’s not like she’s some stupid twat who wouldn’t even be able to get into community college and would never read an actual book.

FYI: Last time I went to the salon I brought Ulysses with me.

    • jane says:

Any fool with money can get into Princeton. Brook Shields graduated from Princeton and is a total idiot. This girl is pathetic and has been for a long time. Don’t know what she’ll do when she calls the paps and they don’t show up.

  15. Samigirl says:

Kaiser, I can only assume they are working on a movie together. Tons of (crappy) movies are made here in Shreveport. Strawdogs, which introduced Kate Bosworth and Mr. Scarsgard for one. They weren’t like making out or anything, but they were definitely cozy and enjoying each others company.

  16. Kaiser says:

Samigirl – Yeah, they’re doing that movie where Gerry plays a soccer coach & Biel is the soccer mom or something. Ugh. Biel is worse than Aniston, as far as Gerry as concerned.

  17. Samigirl says:

I’ll dig out my binoculars and keep a look out on Gerry for you!!!

  18. Gwen says:

She got into Princeton but did she actually go there? Either way now she seems mostly into the paps. I doubt it’s a coincedence that we see photos of her with a book her current claim to fame said he likes. Would she even be discussed were it not for ASkars?

  19. Lenore says:

I’m happy to believe that KB reads, even that she reads heavy Russian literature, even that she reads it while having her hair done.

But only a pretentious tool walks around flashing their literacy like that. I know, because I went to college and I was a pretentious tool then, and I did the same thing until someone laughed at me.

Why is the book not in her bag? Is her ego taking up too much room in there?

  20. Jenna says:

Does it matter if she went? The comments that are all, “Haha, like she could read a book without pictures” or “It was probably upside down!” are just asinine.

  21. nicca says:

I ALWAYS carry War & Peace when I go to get a mani.

  22. The_Porscha says:

I don’t like her either, but I don’t think this was deliberate famewhoring. I bring my books to salons, dentist’s office, and doctor’s office all the time. Any time I’m going to be sitting around, I’m going to be reading.

And for the record, I also have a Kindle. Sometimes I bring the Kindle or sometimes I bring an actual book. It’s not unheard of. She can read.

  23. curmudgeon says:

She might actually be reading it. But she definitely wants everyone to know it. Yawn.

  24. Bodhi says:

I ALWAYS have a book with me. I get antsy if I have to wait more than 5 minutes without something to read. And I have been known to haul around some pretty heavy stuff, both weight & content wise. I don’t doubt that K.Bo is intelligent & capable of reading, but I DO think that this particular book on this particular occasion is a photo op. She can’t be oblivious as to all the negative press shes been getting

  25. SHump says:

I’ve brought many books to the salon over the years. I read Crime and Punishment while working the counter at a dinky little gas station in State College. It didn’t have a mini mart attached, so business was generally slow and I got through it in 5 days just reading it at work. I’m not sure why everyone is being so judge-y. By everyone, I mostly mean Kaiser. lol

  26. Maeve@wos says:

I think she and alex are the cutest couple evah! I hope they gets married!

  27. brin says:

Biel needs to keep her paws off of Gerry. *takes shank in hand*

  28. Fabianne says:

I wouldn’t compare a doctor’s office to a hair salon. Salons tend to be loud places and your brain would be competing with too many noises. You can definitely try to read with all those distractions but you won’t be fully concentrated. And a book such as ‘Master and Margarita’ deserves complete attention.

  29. Solveig says:

Come on! Bulgakov is no Dostoevskij or Solženicyn and that novel is not ‘The Gulag Archipelago’. Even I read that book easily despite my attention problems (and it’s one of my favourite novels ever).
Anyway, this pics are obviously staged, but if Britney Spears read Machiavelli (LOL) why wouldn’t KB read Bulgakov?
Finally, I like her outfit, minus the boots.

  30. JM says:

She got into Princeton because her Daddy has connections & a lot of $$. However, instead of taking advantage of a good education, she went the Hollywood route starving herself, bleaching her hair into straw & proudly smirking for the paps. She may be able to read but I would question her comprehension skills & the book selection since her alleged BF mentioned it was his favorite.

This was yet another PR move to prove she’s still the little woman. Although by the looks of things, mainly the toothpicks holding her up,she’s in starvation mode again so it must not all be sunshine & roses in Skarsgardville. Funny how after all this time he still has yet to publicly claim or acknowledge her as anything more than someone who hangs with this Swedish Posse. Maybe if he didn’t look like he’d rather get a root canal with no anesthesia than be seen with her, some of the fans would cut her some slack.

  31. Rachael says:

I was reading Physics and the Impossible in the hair salon the other day. Not everyone reads OK Magazine all the time.

  32. JuJuBee says:

I’ve taken a book to the salon and yes sometimes it’s a little bit “heavier” than something from Oprah’s Book Club. I’m not always chatty and not to knock my hair lady, but I’m not always in the mood to listen to someone gossip for two hours straight. As for putting the book in a purse, it weighs it down too much and is sometimes easier to carry. I’m sure it’s a photo op or maybe there is a script involved?

I do find it funny that Kate gets all of the wrath for dating poor defenseless Alex, who can’t possible break away from this wretched woman. *insert massive eye roll here*

  33. devilgirl says:

I am reading that same book right now. Guess I am famewhoring Russian Lit.?! Oh wait, I’m not famous.

Can’t people just reads a book without it meanibng something?

    Great book by the way.

  34. jover says:

Love all the comments – Shump you deserve a literary prize for getting through Crime and Punishment in those circumstances. BUt i’m with Fabianne 19th century Russian literature is too dense and opaque sometimes and the distractions at some place like a salon would destroy all concentration. I save Dostoeveski (sic) for late nite when the house is quiet and only the novel has my attention; otherwise it’s time, newsweek, People, etc. at the doctor’s, the salon, etc.

  35. xxodettexx says:

i would hope that if i were to ever become famous and on top of that a famewhore that carries elitist books face out, that some friend or family member will slap me in the face for being so GD OBVIOUS… sheesh!

  36. Cherry Rose says:

I bring books with me all the time, everywhere I go.

And it ranges from American Psycho to a biography on Elizabeth I.

But usually I just stick the book in my purse. I don’t need to flash it around like Kate does here. Though it’s funny how’s she holding it to make sure you can see the title.

    Silly twit.

  37. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

C’mon ladies!! this is KB we’re talking about WITH A BOOK!

Although I admire you for taking up for her…

    ITS KB WITH A BOOK!!!!

  38. dea says:

Kaiser: as much as I love your writings and style which keeps me coming back to the site, I don’t agree with you in all you write about Kate here. Kate is a very smart girl. Graduated with honors, member of various national honor societies, does a lot of charity work, etc. etc. The girl is way too smart for her own good and she is very humble in fact. On the other hand, what is wrong with having a book in her hand? Why don’t we appluad just that fact alone? If she holds a book I assume she is sending a very good message to young women out there that reading is extremely good to broaden horizon and be more educated.
Where is the line of making fun with the ones that totally deserve it and the ones that do not deserve it? We are putting them in the same boat.
I still appreciate your opininon and writing, but have to defend Kate in here.

  39. TG says:

I have to go out and get that book now. I love Russian literature (at least the English translations). I like the dark psycological story-telling that many of them are (Dostoevsky comes to mind). I started reading them years ago to improve my vocabulary and to catch up on all the classics I never read. I am not an intellectual though. I am currently obssessing over regency romance authors Heyer and Balogh though getting tired of those too. So I am off to the bookstore today!

One other thing. There are a few of us losers who carry our books around like that but that is because we are busy reading it while walking to work or the metro. I have been guilty of that a time or two.

  40. seri says:

ugh, i happen to be reading that book right now, and it sucks. big time.

  41. OtherChris says:

    pretentious!

  42. bluhare says:

I swear I thought the teaser pic was Holly Madison.

    Apologies to Holly.

  43. Gwen says:

@dea: What sort of charity work does Kate support? Granted, I’ve only follow her for the time she’s dated ASkars, but during that time she hasn’t done much charity work if any. Mostly she’s been promoting her jewelry.

  44. Jenny says:

yeah, I was a pretentious ass in high school and I walked around with my books like that all the time (thank god I grew out of it and now carry them in my bag, holding books like that is really uncomfortable)The Master and Margarita is fantastic though, so yay for her if she’s reading it

  45. dea says:

@Gwen – you can find it on google, there are several.

  46. FameMonster says:

Chick needs to stop embarrassing herself and just go away already. The Nylon party with only 20 mostly unknown guests says that that she’s dead to most of HW. No showmance or cheap, tacky jewelry will change that. Ten years in the business and not one A/B lister showed up? Pathetic, but that what happens when you mess with Gwyneth Paltrow’s husband.

  47. KLO says:

Well, at least this is a good book. I highly recommend 🙂

  48. FameMonster says:

@TG.Besides her bio claiming all these academic honors what proof do you have that it’s true? This person sounds like a moron in every interview. I have yet to read or hear anything semi intelligent coming from her.Drew Barrymore dropped out of school in the 8th grade but listening to her you’d never know it. She’s well read, highly intelligent and it shows. Kate sounds stupid and pretentious.

Btw,has anyone ever seen a picture of her at one of the equestrian events that her bio claims she was an Olympic caliber competitor? People at that level usually have tons of photos of them with their trophies and ribbons. Where are Kate’s? Seems like the achievements on her bio is mostly BS.

  49. LittleDeadGirl says:

I’m with Kaiser and I’m a massive nerd that usually has both her nook and a book in her purse at all times. I often carry a book in hand for the same reason, weigns down in my bag, or I’ve been reading it on the bus but I’ve never ever carried my book like. It’s usually face in. I mean it looks soooo staged, maybe it’s not, but that’s the sense I get from the photos too. At this point I think she’s staging these photos for the Skars to make him think she is smart “see honey I’m totally stupid when I’m with you but when I’m away I become a lit grad student”. Sad sad sad.

At the very least I will say that it’s nice to see someone famewhoring something NOT on the Oprah’s book club list … little girls might see these photos and be encouraged to read and that’s awesome … so I support this type of fame whoreing …

  50. bappi says:

I take books almost everywhere with me. I´ve read at McDonalds, at the pub, I read when I go out to lunch by myself, I most definetly have read in the salon… True, Kate Bosworth doesn´t seem like the type who enjoys literature, but I don´t seem like the type who enjoys celebrity gossip either, and here am I…

  51. mforman says:

this famewhore does nothing for charity, she once gave away a worn dress that was a freebie and now has the balls to donate just $10 if you buy a particular bracelet from her crapmint line. doing something for charity doesn’t get her anything, so she doesn’t do it. i thought she couldn’t get any more disgusting or lower than she was, but this did it. she only got into college because she is a legacy and daddy made a large donation, remember they can write whatever they want on their bio’s. now she will use her weight problem to make him feel guilty and keep clinging to him, when she gets a new bf she will leave him alone, it seems like she is in her stalking mood. she needs to go back to Europe and stay there for awhile.

  52. Gwen says:

@dea: Whatever. I just thought you knew, since you posted that she does lots of charity work. During the time she’s been with ASkars it certainly hasn’t been very noticable..

  53. mln76 says:

I just have to say I love that book, it’s a funny fast read but yeah obviously she is trying to prove something by flashing that to the paps.

  54. Faye says:

Adding that book to my book list. Sounds like a great read.

If you like books in that vein, try some Saramago, he’s the man who wrote “Blindness” (one of my favorite books and movie, Julianne Moore was perfect). “Blindness” was really heavy but some of his other books are a bit lighter.

  55. :) says:

    I LOOOOOOOVE this book.

It is HILARIOUS and poignant and everyone should read it. Even if you don’t have a strong background in the politics and art scene of the Soviet Union at that time, you’ll “get” this book. Trust me, it isn’t like trying to read some heavy-duty, hard-to-get-through tome.

That said, I think that she is obviously trying to seem cultured (get a better translation, Kate :p). I’ll bet she is seeing herself in an Oscar-winning turn as Margarita (fat chance, Kate!!! —maybe you can play Anoushka and spill the oil).

  56. mln76 says:

BTW I don’t find Russian literature that difficult to read even Crime and Punishment and Anna Karenina aren’t that dense. The language is just really accessible. I also recommend Chekov for short stories and Rilke for poetry. But I couldn’t get through War and Peace. A Russian friend told me years ago even there people only read ‘Peace’ and skip ‘War’ because it’s to difficult to get through. OKAY turning off my inner nerd and going back to being a gossip hound.

  57. TG says:

@FameMonster – I think you misunderstood my post. I wasn’t commenting on Kate. I believe she is an airhead, though I think she is a fragile beauty, even if she is a famewhore. I am in 100% agreement that she is showing this book to the public on purpose.

  58. KatherineW says:

No one has mentioned that Skarsgard has publically stated in interviews that this is a favorite book of his. So she’s just, once again, calling the paps so she can be photographed with evidence that “she’s still got her man”. How many paps calls, how many boyfriends, is this now in a 10 year span? But there’s not been one praise-worthy acting role, and never any acting school, college, etc, etc(and being in a high school honor society does not count!). What makes her irritating to many is that she is nothing more than a Paris Hilton, but with lots more snobbery and pretenses.

  59. WhoamI? says:

This is one of the best novels of the 20th century? You buried the lead! I bought this book about ten years ago because I liked the cover. I read maybe 100 pages and was bored shitless.

It’s satire. But if you don’t know anything about early to mid 20th century Russia (I didn’t) then you aren’t getting anything except a sub-par story. That’s true about all historical satire. You can’t appreciate it on the level it was meant to be appreciated. Somehow I doubt she’s a scholar of Russian history.

As far as Devil-meets-man books go, Screwtape Letters or anything about Faust is better.

And just because we’re talking about Russia, Russian Ark is a pretty awesome movie if you haven’t seen it. It’s an hour and a half long ode to Russia in ONE SHOT. Pretty awesome.

…God I hope they aren’t turning this into a movie. That’s the only reason I can think of that she’d be carrying this around and reading it at the salon.

  60. Kay says:

    @Jenna
Anyone can get into Princeton especially if daddy is on committee. And most of her academic gobies are bought, like you buy your way into whose who. You should see mine!

  61. filthycute says:

I dunno, ladies. I am an obsessive reader (maybe a tool to some), but I love to have the book I’m reading in my hand. I don’t like it getting bent up and damaged inside my purse.

But I am that weirdo that carries her current read from room to room around the house. It always has to be with me.

    I love books.

  62. Zelda says:

I read “A Brief History of Time” last time I was at the salon.
Why are we judging people for reading real books, now?

  63. Solveig says:

Kudos to all those people who are capable of reading in loud places, I truly am envious of you. I’m happy some of you are going to read this book, at least Kate’s famewhoring has had a good use.

  64. Solveig says:

    *Sorry for the double post*

@WhoAmI, Russian Ark is a wonderful movie! I loved it.
Talking of Russian movies, Tarkovskij’s Stalker is pretty amazing, it’s a two and a half hours long movie, and it is also pretty slow but still compelling, the photography is timeless (you wouldn’t say it is a late ’70s movie) and the story haunts you in a positive and very profound way. Every once in a while I like to watch it again.

  65. Patty says:

The last time we saw Kate with any “reading material” she was sitting on the floor of an airplane surrounded by fashion magazines! It’s no secret that all she cares about is clothes, jewelry, and outward appearances. Her entire world revolves around designer clothes and being seen in the right places with the right people. Her best (and apparently only) friend is a stylist whose world revolves around clothes and accessories. This book is also an accessory and nothing more. But wait-maybe I’m wrong about the book-maybe she and Cher are designing some Jewelmint jewelry inspired by Russian history! If we see a new necklace with a Faberge egg hanging from the end of it soon we’ll know I was right….

  66. Homer says:

@dea How much does she pay you?

  67. Dea says:

@Homer – it really annoys me when people comment “how much does she pays you” when someone, including me, leave a comment saying his/her opinion which may be supportive to a certain celebrity but that “majority” hates or dislikes. That is pretty lame question, by the way.
To answer your question I get paid the same amount as you get from a celebrity you support but “majority”, and maybe including me, do not. Does it make sense? I hope you do not do that question anymore. Thanks!

  68. Dea says:

@Gwen – I think she does a good work considering that she does not make as much money as other celebrities do. I try to not look so much into specific things in fact. I confidently think that she is a nice woman. That’s all I can say.

  69. Gwen says:

@Dea: She might be, I don’t know how we can know. But we were talking about charities and AFAIK she’s not very vocal about supporting anything imo. Take a look at her facebook page for instance – it’s all about selling her jewelry. That’s it. Very little about her acting, nothing about charity. That seems to be her deal at the moment and also the reason for these photos: showcasing the jewels (and reminding us that all is well with her and Alex).

  70. Dea says:

@ Gwen Maybe she is dong less than before – I might agree with you. Maybe she is putting more emphasis to other personal things at this time in her life, who knows really. I noted what I knew until now 🙂

  71. kazoo says:

“Look how she’s holding the book too – she wants us to the see the cover. Who holds their book like this?”

LOL that’s the first thing I thought!

I love this thread though. I am kinda obsessed with Russian history but I haven’t really ventured into the fictional novels. I just added a few books mentioned in here to my list. Thanks, ladies!

  72. Jenna says:

Why is it that the people who claim to dislike certain celebrities the most are the ones that know the most about them? This goes for everyone – Brange, Aniston, Leann Rimes, etc. The haters always seem to know more than the fans.

  73. pato says:

dea, you have a point. kudos for her to at least have a book, maybe someone who sees the pic wants to read the book.
but…holding a book like that it´s only to show off. give me that 🙂

  74. littlemissnaughty says:

She’s been reading that for a while now, was seen carrying it around IN her bag before. That being said, I’m assuming many here have attended or are attending university. We all know that people who are book smart and get into certain unis aren’t always intelligent. Please, my university is full of dipshits who can recite books and lecture materials for days but they’re not intelligent. It shows when they open their mouth.
Same with her. Show me ONE interesting interview she’s done (or even one that’s not brain-meltingly boring) and I’ll shut up. She’s not witty or funny and that’s another sign of lack of intellect.

  75. crazydaisy says:

why does anyone care about this chick? she was cute in blue crush – that was, like, ten years ago.

  76. hairball says:

I realize this is a very ignorant question likely, but how does one call the paps on themselves without looking ridiculous? I’m being serious. Why wouldn’t the paps call them out on it?

  77. Isa says:

I don’t ever stick my book in my purse and I don’t pay attention to how I carry it. Then again, I figure most people don’t care what I’m reading. And I don’t think anyone pays attention to whether I have Tolstoy or Victoria Holt in my hand. Now I’m a little afraid that people might think I’m holding my book a certain way on purpose and I’ll probably be more careful.

hairball- It’s a mutualistic relationship. Celebs get coverage and the paps get shots to sell. Everyone is happy!
Also, I think there was a video of Miley Cyrus and she was at a salon or something. Someone asked how they knew she was there and one of the paps said, “They called us.”

  78. Mina says:

Why ASN/Jenna is defending the famewhore so much? I can be an Alex fan, but I don’t have to kiss the famewhore’s feet! LOL!

  79. dea says:

@Isa – “Now I’m a little afraid that people might think I’m holding my book a certain way on purpose and I’ll probably be more careful”.
haha – that is hilariouos but apparently true. People create different perceptions on others depending on how their brain works 🙂

  80. Jenna says:

    Who/what is ASN?

    *shrug*

I just think the amount of hate directed at this girl is weird.

  81. JM says:

@ Jenna: I just think the amount of publicity directed at this girl is weird especially since she hasn’t had a hit since Blue Crush TEN YEARS AGO!

  82. TEXASSWEDE says:

Whether she does these things as a famewhore or not is not my concern. I have a keen dislike of her for the example she sets for young girls today. They look at her and think they need to be like her to be beautiful..NOT!!!!!! She is sickenly underweight. Her self esteem is so low she has to market herself to the press. She has to be attached to a man to be complete {not just a man but the hottest man of the current time).

I use this site as an example to my daughter to show her that true beauty is something you must feel inside yourself before you can see it with your eyes.

Alex Skarsgard has a fan site that with his cooperation is constantly doing charity drives and work. He is a very talented actor. He will go far if he is with the right people.

Kate will only pull someone down to her level. One of leeching off others. How has she survived these years with no work?

  83. KV says:

Loved this post Kaiser and I completely agree!!

  84. Zelda says:

    Ha ha…
You guys–today I noticed I was exiting train holding L’etranger exactly the way she is holding this book. I’m overly aware now.

  85. mforman says:

what is so sad is that this famewhore has never done one thing for charity. i have said it before, she once donated one worn freebie dress to help Haiti and now has the nerve to offer to give a lousy $10.00, if you first purchase her $29.99 crapmint bracelet, this only serves her, she is still making money on those cheap pieces of jewlery that cost maybe .50 to make, you do the math. if it doesn’t serve her agenda, then it is not worth her doing it. since her career is in the absolute toilet, she has to keep clinging to poor AS, who is trapped in a situation, it looks like lately that he wants out of.
