These are new photos of “Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge” and Prince William last night at a London fundraiser for ARK (Absolute Return for Kids). Will and Kate arrived in a blue Jaguar, and (I swear to God this is the text from People Magazine) “With William placing a guiding hand on his wife’s back, she giggled a little as she stopped on the purple-carpeted steps for photographs.” The gown is Penny Packham – I like it. It’s more sparkly and glam than Kate usually goes for, and this blush-pink is a really difficult color to wear. You have to have a very specific skin tone, and Kate, still glowing with a great tan from her honeymoon, really pops. Some sites are saying she looks “the thinnest she’s ever been” but I actually think she looked way thinner right after she returned from her honeymoon. She actually looks like she’s back to solids now.
Anyway, I keep reading about Catherine and Prince William’s Canadian and American tour like it’s the second coming of Jesus. Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited that Waity & Wills will be on American soil too, but even I don’t care for the breathless coverage of every single little nuance and twitch from some “palace insider” dishing on the couple’s travel plans. Here’s what’s known thus far: Kate is not traveling with a lady in waiting, nor stylist, nor valet, although the stylist or “dresser” thing could change, possibly before the trip. Rumor has it that Kate will be doing her own makeup and possibly her own hair for the trip, and will have at least three costume changes a day, or more. It‘s a ten-day trip, and reportedly, she‘s packing 40 outfits. And you know what the makeup thing means, right? Raccoon McWaity rides again! That girl loves her eyeliner. She loves to cake it on and on forever.
This Enquirer story was one of the more interesting pieces about the upcoming trip, only because the speculation involves Kate trying to “demand” that she and William spend more time in LA, so they can properly take in the sights and hang out with Oprah and Brangelina:
Kate Middleton hit the roof when she learned their upcoming visit to Hollywood would be strictly business, insiders say – and demanded to meet Hollywood’s biggest stars, including her idol Oprah Winfrey!
“Kate is a dedicated Oprah fan. She admires her for becoming a TV icon after growing up poor. She regards Oprah as American royalty and the queen of Hollywood,” an informed royal source tells The Enquirer.
The trouble started when Kate saw the names of the people who were scheduled to meet with she and William during their two-day stop in California.
“Kate asked, ‘Where are the movie stars? This bunch is so dull!’” the source divulged. William explained they were going to California as business ambassadors for Britain – and Kate blew up, said the source.
“She stormed, ‘I want to see Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston and J. Lo!’” the insider revealed. “Kate has never set foot in Canada or the US, and she’s determined to make this an occasion for the family album. Her anger shocked William. He was all set to do his royal duty, but Kate was having none of it.”
She demanded palace courtiers make a call to Oprah so she could tour Oprah’s Santa Barbara estate, and persuaded William to push for introductions to Justin Timberlake and Reese Witherspoon.
The royal couple will definitely get together with David and Victoria Beckham, which “William thinks is a big deal… but Kate told him they could meet with the Beckhams when they come over to London. She’s not impressed.”
“Kate was livid because William agreed to only two days in California. She’s demanding at least four… she wants to see where the stars live and take in every aspect of LA life. She’ll be like a kid in a candy store!”

Now, do I really think Kate would storm around, demanding things? Nope. I think she’s still in geisha mode, although to be fair to her, her personality does seem to lean towards “even-tempered” and “reticent”. Even if she’s pissed off about something, it’s doubtful that she would ever raise her newly-posh voice. My guess is that Kate probably expressed a slight disappointment that she and William weren’t going to get to do any “fun” things while in California, and that was what got blown out of proportion. Also, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Oprah and Kate met sometime soon. Oprah is probably working her way into some invitation as we speak. But how much would you love a photo of Kate and Angelina Jolie?

I love Jenny Packham! She looks lovely…much better than that horrible white suit the other day. I highly doubt she’s run around acting like a damn idiot abot not seeing celebs. But I would be disappointed too because it will be her first time to California and they won’t be able to do anything fun together.
Sadly I have found her tastes so far to be ‘meh’ all the time. But, considering what being a princess ought to be about, thats ok.
And if I had lades in wiaitng tailoring my every last detail from my hair down to the buckles on my shoes, I’d look just as good.

She is lovely, but her style fails to impress me. She doesn’t have the WOW factor…ever. She is young and vibrant and a trendsetter. Like the dress, but not on her. Her skin is too dark, her makeup too garish, and in some other pictures the dress really gives her linebacker shoulders. It’s also painfully obvious how thin she is.

I’d like to talk about Will’s hair! It looks like he grew some back.
They look like a couple in their mid- thirties. Her eye bags and wrinkles are quite deep considering how pampered she is. But I like her dress! I have a theory (please note the word theory) that people in colder climates tend to look older. I mean in warmer climates you can wear sunscreen but when it’s cold all the time, there isn’t much you can do to protect your face unless you cover it. Yes, I realize there are exceptions but generally from what I’ve seen, it seems to be the case.

Maybe the poor girl is thin because of the stress of having people constantly picking her appearance apart – from hair to make up to clothes. Would you want that kind of pressure to have to be perfect all the time yet knowing these is no way you will please everyone? I don’t envy her.

On an another note, considering that William has known her for 10+ years, how can he not be concerned about her weight loss and the impact on her health? Is he blind or stupid? I think she would’ve looked great with a soft braid, something to clear her face. With all that make up, the overall look is too heavy for that dress. She could also have another type of make up on her sleeve; change is good from time to time, and occasion from occasion.

@ lin234: It is not just you! I grew up in New England and now live in the hot humid South and I share your theory. Also I believe that higher humidity helps keep the skin more moisturized and therefore younger looking. When I travel back and forth I really notice the difference. People’s skin really does age more in colder climates. I don’t know if that’s why Kate looks older than her years, but I do agree with your theory.
It is a beautiful dress, but she is too thin. My goodness. That is not attractive, but to each his own. I can only imagine how she looks naked.
This dress is a far improvement over that white suit, which I thought was awful. You could see her shoulder blades through it.

@ Onyx XV: I grew up and live in the west coast so cold to me means anytime it hits above 75 brrrr. 😛 I fell in love with skiing years ago and I remember noticing how the really experienced skiers (past the age of 20) all had deep crows feet around their eyes. I made it a point to pretty much cover my entire face when I ski. When I met a lot of Uni people during a summer in England, I really noticed the difference.
Since Kate is a skier, lives in a cold climate, suns, etc it’s no wonder she looks so old. I mean she’s around the same age as Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams, Rachel Bilson, etc. She looks like she’s a well taken care of 40 year old when you compare her to those women.
Other than looking a little bobble-heady in the last picture, I think she looks amazing. I’m in love with this dress, especially the way the skirt moves. Nice one Waity.

Pretty much agree with everyone else. The ridiculous eyeliner makes her look like a cable news weather girl from the ’90s. The dress is lovely and she does look quite relaxed and happy. She is a bit fragile looking, however. It appears that Waity has always been extremely thin but gearing up for the big wedding left her absolutely skeletal – not a good look. Look at her throat in the last few pics…ewww. But alittle mutton and maybe a baby or two should do wonders for her figure.

Skibunny is right, I think part of Kate’s appeal is that she’s for real. Most celebs are beautiful, but they have had a lot of work done to alter their faces and bodies. They’re beautiful but artificial.

To tell the truth, I think this dress is everything except well cut, and elegant ! The top is awful and out of fashion for years and years, the stuff too. A kind of journey back to Dynastie tv show ! That (nice) young woman seems to “not having” the “little thing” for now… Her choices seem not to suit to her true personnality and it gives the feeling of a (weird) gap between the apparence she thinks (perhaps) she must have and who she seems to be… a young modern simple girl…

Sorry to blow the aging theory but I’m english and I’m often complimented on my skin. I’ve never been one to sun worship. I think skin aging is simply from having too much sun. Kate and Pippa have probably holidayed abroad often, maybe they haven’t always taken care. Even though sunscreen helps I don’t think it’s guaranteed to protect you one hundred per cent.

Love the dress, adore the shoes, but the hair is getting tired. She’s definitely still losing weight, she’s thinner than the model that walked this down the runway which is insane; and if this is with the 10 lbs the camera adds, then I’m frightened to think of what she looks like in person. She was prettier 15 lbs ago, when her features were a bit softer.
As for the NE, I buy that she wanted their cali trip to be more fun or exciting, since the side trip never seemed to serve much of a purpose in the first place, other than just wanting to visit LA; but there’s no way that discussion went down anything close to the way they describe it. If anything, she perhaps whined about it a bit to one of her friends or her family; and the NE went over the top in their imagining of a conversation that anyone under the sun might have about a trip they were taking to LA.

Angelina has made a career, done a ton of stuff on her own. she is independent and never tried to marry for fame/fortune.
Kate has no career, seems keen on fame and photo ops, always looked thrill that photogs want to take her picture even before she “got married”.
It wouldn’t surprise me if she wanted to meet movie stars, since that all she ever seemed to care about- partying and getting famous and association to higher status and power-people.

When I’m stressed out I drop weight like crazy without trying. But I hope she allows herself to regain some healthy weight and not feel like she has to maintain this uber-skinnyness.

Additional comments: Kate totally wants to meet celebrities. Sure she loves William, but Kate is in this for the celebrity, for the attention. She loves every minute of dressing up and playing Princess. I think we can agree that most of us would. But this chick is smarter than to leverage her first visit for a bunch of celebrity meet-and-greets. If Kate want to meet The Brange (which like – DUH who doesn’t want to meet The Brange?!?), she will just casually get involved with one of their international charaties. Ta-Da! Plus I don’t see Brad and Angie rushing to rub shoulders with the Royals. Each of them has already met Prince Charles. NOT to mention that they have also met many Kings/Queens, and other heads of states. Brad/Angie don’t seem the type to care. I mean neither of them have been to the White House dinners (although both have spent time lobbying on Capital Hill) If they cared they would have gone to some of those STATE dinners that any and every celeb manages to get an invite to.
I think Kate is pretty, not beautiful. She has a maturity about her look. Which makes her look older. Like Angelina, they both look so much younger without makeup.
But I don’t buy this story. Besides, when they come to the US in July Brad/Angie and family will be in Malta (if they are not there already) so a meeting is a mute point to begin with. YOU can’t meet if you are not in the same country.

I don’t mind her preoccupation with eye-liner. She’s got big beautiful eyes that she likes to emphasise. I understand her (makeup and general styling) philosophy of sticking with something when it works for you – so many ‘beige’ and ‘vanilla’ celebrities do. And I like their looks and outfits a lot more than the Gagas, Rihannas, Keishas and Katy Perrys of the world!
What is the fascination with everything being outrageous? Her look suits her personality wise and also taking into consideration her position. She is someone who just entered a certain echelon of society in her country, why would she be walking around in something Kim K might wear? I think the dress and especially the shoes are beautiful. If she manages to gain a couple of pounds soon she will be totally on point.

I did notice that her mother seemed to do the eyeliner also (at the wedding). Whatever, I like that she can do her own blessed makeup. She looks lovely in the dress. However, I think perhaps it photographs poorly because I like it much better in the closer photos. All these things she will learn as P. Diana did. She really has a beautiful smile. As for Catherine throwing a hissy fit over the lack of “fun things” on the California trip, I seriously doubt that happened. I think she made a deal with William to get the ring on her finger. She’ll put up with the necessary British stumping for business if she gets to wear fancy stuff like that outfit and travel to places she’s never been.
Anyway, Catherine has plenty of opportunities to visit the USA, especially if it is a free trip, in the future. This won’t be her last trip by any doubt.
This dress is gorgeous! The color is just perfect. It’s definitely something I would wear (if I had appropriate events to wear it to, & more money than God, that is).
One of the two only things that I dislike… is the fact that the top half of the dress looks like a big rectangle, & the horizontal high neckline should have been much lower (to flatter her neck) in either a pointed/curved design. It would have also broken up the ‘boxy’ shape.
I think the wispy sleeves are very cute… But adding those to the top of the dress causes her body to look unbalanced & top heavy, because of her very slim hips. The dress is still beautiful, (as is she in these pics) but I think the ‘idea’ of this dress could’ve been improved upon.

I think Enquirer just add the “!” behind those insiders’ input of what Kate is “demanding”.
I think it is more like a questions than a command words.
The way I see it Kate is like a classic movie. You should never attempt to remake it. It is reliable. You will never get bored seeing it again and again. Keep up the good work on behalf of us Brits!
