2011 Emmy nominations released: Hamm Dong, Olyphant & lots more!

wenn2980008

The 2011 Emma nominations have been announced! Let’s see… surprises, snubs and also-rans: Friday Night Lights got a lot of love for its final season, with nominations for the series, plus Best Actor and Actress (Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler). Lots of love for Justified (Whoop!), with nominations for Timothy Olyphant and Walter Goggins. Mad Men scored the most noms, with a series nomination, and nominations in every acting category (WHOOP!). Surprisingly, The Killing even scored some noms – but only for the women. My beloved Joel Kinnaman was snubbed! Even though I’m not going to watch The Killing anymore after that terrible asshattery of a finale, I still wanted to see Joel in a tux. Also: The Good Wife and Boardwalk Empire continue to thrive, nomination-wise. Margulies is probably a shoo-in for the Emmy this year. For the full list, go here. Here are most of them:

[From HuffPo]

So no Charlie Sheen, but Jon Cryer got nominated, and there’s still a lot of love for Glee too, but I feel like it’s probably waning (hopefully). And Ed O’Neill finally got nominated for his work in Modern Family! Good. He was snubbed last year, to everyone’s shock – Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet get so much attention (well-deserved) for Modern Family, but Ed is a friggin’ veteran of television, and he’s doing an amazing job on that show. He’s my favorite character, joint with Sofia Vergara (Whoop!).

Oh CRAP! I just realized that The Closer was snubbed. Goddamn it. Kyra Sedgwick rules! The Closer is awesome!!!

  1. MollyB says:

Peter Dinklage better walk away with that award. I hate that crappy, been-around-too-long shows like House keep getting nominations and great new shows are overlooked.

  2. Eve says:

    YUM!!! @ Timothy Olyphant.

Yes, there’s still love for that heinous show. But that may be because its creator has influent friends.

About Modern Family — only now Fox is showing actual commercials announcing the new season (the second) here in Brazil. Just to tease me because they do not give the exact day, it’s always “Modern Family new season…soon”.

  3. Lol says:

I hope Mariska Harigtay wins love her. Delighted with all the Big ban Theory noms too i love those guys 🙂

  4. CallieTrichid says:

Peter Dinklage and Louis C.K. deserve those awards. Louie is amazing and Peter Dinklage is the best thing on Game of Thrones.

  5. the original bellaluna says:

YEAH for my lover Olyphant and “Mags”! And yeah for Mariska too.

  6. Katie says:

I support the Colfer nom, but Glee for best comedy? Why is the whole world pretending Glee is still good? It is so uneven.

YAY for all the Justified love! Well deserved. I think Kyra probably didn’t get the nom since she won last year.

Also, why does the world pretend House doesn’t suck? I like Hugh Laurie, but come on.

  7. Amy says:

I have the biggest crush on Peter Dinklage and he has that Emmy in the bag. Yay!

Is it bad that the first thing I thought about was whether or not they will accommodate the podium to his height?

  8. Autumnstars says:

Game of Thrones, Big Bang Theory, Michael C. Hall, Peter Dinklage, Melissa McCarthy, Jim Parsons! I don’t care about the rest. I might actually watch the Emmys this year with these nominations.

  9. Betty says:

    um…Breaking Bad?

  10. Kate says:

Friday Night Lights is one of the best shows to ever be on television. Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton are absolutely fabulous and it is about f’ing time these two, and the show, were shown some love.

  11. Lem says:

Love Justified, adore Olyphant, Goggins is flat out brilliant in that role.
I just found out last week “Lie to Me” was cancelled. That chaps…
    GO BETTY WHITE

  12. lucy2 says:

@betty – Breaking Bad couldn’t submit for nominations this year, due to some rules about air dates.
Very happy for FNL, Parks & Rec, Martha Plimpton, and Justified.
Nick Offerman from P&R should have gotten Jon Cryer’s spot, and either Raising Hope or Community should have gotten Glee’s.

  13. Mia says:

Thrilled for the Justified & Friday Night Lights nominations! Finally! And Martha Plimpton. She is excellent on Raising Hope.

  14. Amy says:

@Betty – Breaking Bad wasn’t eligible this year because of how its hiatus fell.

  15. Diane says:

    Jon Hamm, pleeeeeeeeeease !

  16. liza_jane says:

Timothy Olyphant makes me tingle. I’m not sure he should win but I am sure he should do more sex scenes.

  17. tiredofrumers says:

friday night lights better get SOMETHING. maybe with cranston out of the way, kyle chandler has a shot. i wish :-/ best show on television.

  18. gloaming says:

Game of Thrones for the win!

So happy for Peter Dinklage, so well deserved.

  19. MJ says:

Man, no Breaking Bad? I guess they figured they’d give some other lead actors a chance this year. (edit: just read the comments above re: the hiatus – makes sense.)

The photo above isn’t the best example, but Mireille Enos from The Killing is really crazy gorgeous when she smiles… too bad she never gets a chance to crack one on the show, but her brooding Dana Scully vibe works for the series. She’s married to Cameron from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (Alan Ruck) in real life.

  20. arock says:

Louie is a great show, really under rated.
im torn on parks and rec vs. 30 rock ladies.
    elizabeth moss in mad men.
and anything for modern family. great cast.
sadly these are the only shows i watch on tv;(
—oh and Timothy oliphant in deadwood still deserves a hot dong spread….mmmmmm

  21. xxodettexx says:

    yay, tyrion [dinklage]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is as exciting as knowing that dance with dragons is already en route to me from amazon!! woohoo… [also, go SYTYCD]

  22. Jackson says:

I don’t watch a lot of television but I really like Timothy Olyphant. What is ‘Justified?’ Any good??

  23. teresa says:

Goop got nominated for guesting on Glee. Ugh.

  24. Mika says:

Game of Thrones has been underrated, it’s way better than Boardwalk Empire. No nod for Maisey Williams? She’s been getting GREAT reviews as Arya. Also, why isn’t Bored to Death nominated for anything in comedy? Ted Danzen had a great season!

  25. Andrea says:

I will have to watch just to see me some of the Olyphant! That show is awesome!

@Jackson…..yes that show is great! Olyphant is a major bada** on that show. Great storylines too.

  26. fabchick says:

Yay for Game of Thrones. Love that show.

  27. xxodettexx says:

@Mika, i agree about Maisey Williams! from the books, my favorite characters [along with jon snow] have been arya and tyrion from the start and the actors have both won me over into completely seeing them as the characters! love them both…

  28. Lila says:

Yay for The Good Wife. That show is awesome and I hope Julianna wins.

  29. padiddle says:

    Mags better win for Justified.

Great series, definitely worth watching! I don’t understand how either of the women from the Killing got nominated, they were both terrible. Particularly Michelle Forbes, who spent a lot of time just staring at stuff.

  30. the original bellaluna says:

@ Jackson – You are SERIOUSLY missing out! And this last season was r-e-a-l-l-y good! It’s on FX.

  31. silken_floss says:

    The Olyphant!!!!

    That is all.

  32. seVen says:

mmm Olyphant. Can I have two forever dongs? Channing better step up because his place in my bed is in danger!… oh how i wish.

  33. mia girl says:

OMG a pic of Timothy f**king Olyphant!
    HGF came a day early 🙂 !!!!

@arock – agree with you about Louie. I was surprised/glad to see Louis C.K. was nominated.

I wish they’d recognize some of the supporting actors on Nurse Jackie. That is a really good all around cast.

  34. Original Bee says:

Jon Hamm deserves to win. He, and Elizabeth Moss did such a great job in “The Suitcase” episode of Mad Men. But, Steve Buscemi will probably win because he’s a film actor who went to televion, and the industry will want to reward him for that. Not, that Buscemi’s not a good actor. But, if Jon Hamm doesn’t win now there’s a chance he never will, with Bryan Cranston back in the running next year.

  35. Andrea says:

Ooooh yeah, good idea for HGF…..emmy HGF…just throw in some Oylphant and you’re done…o.k. maybe some Hamm dong…lol!!!

  36. phlyfiremama says:

Yayy Game of Thrones!! Peter Linklage does an AWESOME job as Tyrion, and the series itself is VERy close to the books. I may have to check out Justified now, I loved Timothy Olyphant as Bullock in Deadwood. Super hot.

  37. lucy2 says:

Definitely check out Justified, Jackson, I just got hooked this year, it’s really good.

I tried 2 episodes of Game of Thrones and just don’t care for it, and watched probably 5-6 of Boardwalk Empire and lost interest. I expect one of them will win, but I’ll be rooting for Friday Night Lights.

  38. TQB says:

@Jackson, Justified is available on iTunes (both seasons). First season DVD is on Amazon for cheap, like under $20. Season 2 will likely be out at the end of the summer.

And it’s one of the best TV shows ever made. Funny, sexy, smart. Walton Goggins is just as incredible and sexy as Olyphant (I know it seems hard to believe, but true).

Still, this list is woefully lacking respect for Fringe (specifically the amazing John Noble) and Community. Grrr. Seriously, how many different versions of the same person does a man have to play before the Emmy idiots notice?

  39. ZenB!tch says:

—So no Charlie Sheen, but Jon Cryer got nominated— My thoughts exactly as I saw Cryer’s name on the list. I hate that show – always have.

Dinklage creeps me out. He looks like and older, smaller Weston Cage.

  40. CC says:

I’m really happy about the GoT nod. Sure, they won’t win, but they deserve to be recognized, that’s an awesome show.

  41. ctkat1 says:

    Yay!
Cat Deeley got nominated for best reality host- finally!

Amy Poehler and “Parks & Rec” were nominated. Let’s see, what else…Timothy Olyphant is great, Steve Carell for his last season, and the entire cast of “Modern Family.”

Would love to see some new faces win- I realize that’s not how the Emmys work, but it would be nice.

  42. linnie says:

yayyy!!! i want sofia and ed to win! i love their characters- they`re so funny =]

also pulling for steve carell or matt leblanc (goo joey tribbiani :p)

  43. linnie says:

lol woulda been awkward of charlie sheen got nominated and won :p

    WINNING!

  44. karena says:

YES for FNL, Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler! Also, I’m thrilled Timothy Olyphant is getting some love.

  45. lexirei says:

“—So no Charlie Sheen, but Jon Cryer got nominated— My thoughts exactly as I saw Cryer’s name on the list. I hate that show – always have.”

Whew! Finally I see someone else who can’t stand that crap show! To me, Charlie is pretty much playing a PG-13 version of himself.

I wish “Shameless” got more nods though. Lost interest in “Boardwalk Empire” after a few episodes. Julia Stiles being nominated is a joke. Probably the worst guest star on “Dexter”.

  46. Amanda G says:

Meh…same ol’ same ol’…. I do like the love for Modern Family though. I hope Eric Stonestreet wins, he’s awesome.

  47. Nina says:

In regard to Peter Dinklage, this says it all:

    http://persephonemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/qr0ol.jpg

  48. jayem says:

Take heart, Kaiser, we’ll probably still get to see Joel in a tux. I’m sure he’ll announce a winner with Mireille. It does suck that he didn’t get a nod. Almost every article and comment I read says he’s the best part of the show. I might also Google stalk him a little bit and he’s getting a lot of recognition.

Um, can we just make Timothy Olyphant the header picture for every story? That man is sex on a stick!! Seriously, every time I see him, I’m overcome with this urge to lick him.

Some of these nominations make me wonder if people even watch tv or they just make this shit up.

  49. fuefinawg says:

Matt LeBlanc kicks ass in Episodes! I’m so glad he was nominated … and I couldn’t stand him before. And I love Peter Dinklage, as well.

  50. Jordi says:

    NO ‘COMMUNITY’?! REALLY?

  51. NaomiCampbellsPhone says:

Nooooo FFS why do they keep snubbing John Noble! I know the emmy people don’t really like sci fi, but he’s so amazing in Fringe. The guy can act so well just using his eyes it’s crazy. As #38 said, how many versions of himself does he have to play before they notice how epically talented he is?!

  52. Chris says:

Steve Buscemi for Boardwalk Empire and life time achievement. I love that funny lookn’guy. 🙂

And when’s John Turruro going to get a HBO vehicle to showcase his wares?

  53. Jackson says:

@ Andrea, the original bellaluna, lucy2, TQB – thanks for the comments! Oh, and it’s on FX? I was gonna hunt around on Showtime or HBO for it – surprising to me. And thanks for the itunes tip TQB! Now all I need is a rainy miserable day to spend inside alone with TO.

  54. DeeVine says:

    Timothy Olyphant-astic! YUM

  55. bigfan says:

Next to his mother, I swear I am Timothy Olyphant’s biggest fan. However, if he does any more sex scenes he’s going to be getting Cinemax awards and we don’t want that.

  56. Mairead says:

    @fuefinawg – I totally agree!!
But I adore Mangan and Grieg (especially together – Green Wing is one of the best programmes ever), so I’m naturally biased in favour of any programme with them in. I literally just finished watching the last episode of Season 1 and it is hilarious!

And I am LOVING at least one of the new additions to the cast next year 😉
