These are some new photos of Halle Berry doing 1970s costume and hair for her new film, Cloud Atlas. She’s filming her part in Glasgow, Scotland, because after the World War Z made Glasgow look like apocalyptic Philadelphia, Glasgow is now being remade into 1975 California. NO JOKE. Anyway, let’s talk wiglets, specifically Halle’s wiglet. I’ve been hating on her natural hair for a few months now, because she’s been cutting it much, much too short and it gives her beautiful face a very “hard” look. This wiglet does something very interesting to Halle’s face, though. First impression: she looks like Mick Jagger circa 1975. I wasn’t even born then, but I’ve always felt that back in 1975, most people probably resembled Mick Jagger. It was the era, you know?

About this film, Cloud Atlas. It sounds like an interesting concept, and now I kind of want to read the book it’s based on. The book and film “contains six stories set in a different time and place that become intricately related to each other. Character details have yet to be released, but like other cast members Halle will be playing multiple roles in different storylines… In the original book there are six different threads, starting with an American notary’s boat journey home from the remote Chatham Islands, east of New Zealand, and ending in a post-apocalyptic distant future.” The author says, “All of the characters except one are reincarnations of the same soul, identified by a birthmark. The cloud refers to the ever-changing manifestations of the atlas, which is the fixed human nature. The book’s theme is predacity – individuals prey on individuals, groups on groups, nations on nations.” The film also stars Tom Hanks, Susan Sarandon, Hugo Weaving, Hugh Grant, Jim Sturgess and Ben Whishaw (sidenote about Whishaw: are you watching The Hour?!? OMG, I LOVE BEN WHISHAW).

Halle’s decision to take a role in Cloud Atlas is causing controversy with her baby-daddy, Gabriel Aubry too. Because she’s filming in Scotland, Halle just took Nahla with her, and invoked her “movie clause” in her child custody agreement with Gabriel. Last month, Halle and Gabriel’s lawyers finally seemed to come to some kind of understanding – Gabriel’s parental rights are ensured, and he gets a specific amount of time with his daughter. However, Halle’s lawyers put in the “movie clause” which basically means that if she has to leave town for a movie, she gets to take Nahla with her and Gabriel can just suck it up.

So Gabriel’s lawyers took her lawyers back to court a few days ago – according to TMZ, “Sources connected to Halle tell TMZ … Aubry, who is also in Europe, has been throwing a fit over custody issues involving their daughter Nahla while Halle shoots ‘Cloud Atlas’ in Europe — and we’ve learned, Halle’s lawyers were in court to put out the flames. Halle’s lawyers Neal Hersh and Judy Bogen were in court to address Gabriel’s bellyaching — and while it’s unclear exactly what happened during the proceedings, the two walked out with huge smiles on their faces.” Yeah, it sounds like Gabe will just have to suck it up. I like him better for really fighting Halle though.

Meanwhile, Us Weekly had this little nugget about Halle’s relationship with her hostage/boyfriend, Olivier Martinez:

Halle Berry has met her match in beau of one year Olivier Martinez, 45.

“He challenges her in a way that other men haven’t,” a pal says of the actress, 45, and her Dark Tide costar. And Halle digs her man’s compassionate side as well.

“He’s incredibly supportive,” says the insider. “They have a special kind of love.”

“Special kind of love.” Yeah, I’m sure it’s very “special”. Like Halle not-so-allegedly told Gabriel Aubry, her relationship with Olivier is “business”. As in, they’ll stay together through the promotion of Dark Tide, which looks like it’s never going to get released. Poor Olivier. FREE OLIVIER!
