Michelle Williams covers Elle UK, tries to explain her funky Marilyn voice

mw11

Michelle Williams covers the December issue of Elle UK, and these are the two covers (subscribers and newsstand). I don’t get it – why is she still doing the Mia Farrow thing when she’s promoting a film about Marilyn Monroe? Sigh… I want to like Michelle, I really do, but I’m really tired of her fragile-Mia-Farrow thing, and I’m really concerned that My Week With Marilyn is going to be a disaster. Yes, people are already claiming that she’ll get an Oscar nomination for it, but the trailer did not inspire confidence with me.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any excerpts from the Elle interview, but Michelle’s publicity for the film has begun in earnest, so I do have some highlights from other interviews she’s given recently.

mw21

Speaking to Marilyn’s ghost: “While we were filming, something came out in the National Enquirer that a psychic had spoken to her and that she approved of what we were doing and she thought I was doing a really good job. So maybe she likes it!”

On Marilyn‘s voice: “I studied tapes,” Williams said. “There’s really nothing that exists of her, that I could find anyway, that exists of her having a conversation with a friend…So there wasn’t a template that existed for her everyday vocal pattern, so at a certain point you have to make it imaginatively.”

Taking the role: “I was so apprehensive,” she says, “it was daunting living up to people’s expectations as well as my own expectations.”

Parallels with Monroe’s life: “There were so many connections and parallels for me in making this film. I was 30 when making the movie, the same age Marilyn was when she filmed The Prince and the Showgirl, the picture our film is based around. We filmed in the same studio at Pinewood where that movie was made. I had the same dressing room Marilyn had used and we also shot at the same house, Parkside, where she had stayed during filming.”

Wanting to know the real Marilyn: “I had always been more interested in the private Marilyn, and the unguarded Marilyn. Even as a young girl, my primary concern wasn’t with this larger than life personality smiling back from the wall but with what was going on underneath.”

What Marilyn’s experience was in England: “What Marilyn anticipated happening and what actually happened were two very different things and they created discord and unhappiness for her in England. She was expecting to go to London and make a movie with the most esteemed actor of the time and hoped it would bring her the respect that she deserved and craved. When she arrived she felt she was being mistreated and laughed at. Olivier sneered at her and didn’t treat her with the kind of attention she was hoping for but when you watch the film now, you can see Marilyn wipes the floor with the rest of the cast. They are all very stiff, mannered and archaic but if she were making that movie today there is nothing about her performance that has gone out of fashion or faded. She is very real, very in the moment and so beautiful.”

[From The Express UK & E! News]

Joyce Carol Oates’s Blonde describes a similar situation when Marilyn came to England having just married Arthur Miller – apparently, Olivier was a harsh taskmaster, and he thought Marilyn was the weak link in his film. When the film came out, though, Marilyn’s performance was the only thing people liked. So that part of Hollywood history seems authentic.

A new clip from My Week With Marilyn has come out – Michelle singing in the tub:

And here’s the trailer again and a new poster for the film:

This clip and poster looks pretty good. i’m impressed.

  2. NM9005 says:

I think she likes her short hair. If she feels comfortable with it, why not?
She’s gradually gone from “long” to short so I think it was a way of slowly transistioning so the public/fans wouldn’t be freaked out by it? I don’t know…

“Also, why is she still doing the Mia Farrow thing when she’s promoting a film about Marilyn Monroe?”

A short haircut is a short haircut, I don’t think it’s to look like Farrow and I don’t think she should do a MM haircut of some sorts just because she played her. She’s still an actress, not an impersonator. She and her fans know how to seperate reality from art.

  3. NM9005 says:

Oh and I’m curious too for the film. I think people expect her to play public Marilyn instead of private Marilyn so I’m curious how she’ll fare. It does take some imagination to get used to that voice since it’s not the public Marilyn voice. I’m sure Williams is talented enough to find MM’s vulnerable, broken side and turn it into a stellar performance.

  4. sauvage says:

I actually like Michelle Williams in the trailer quite a bit. Her performance seems very natural to me and she’s looking stunning.

  5. mamaT says:

    looks good.

  6. birdie says:

The clip looks good, can’t wait for the movie, especially because Emma Watson is in it.

  7. J.A. says:

    The first photo is UBERbeautiful

  8. tripmom says:

Michelle Williams, you are too old to be wearing a dress covered in kisses. Grow the hell up.

  9. Jackie says:

always liked her, but getting tired of the ‘little girl’ thang.

  10. DarkEmpress says:

Love Michelle. She does not present herself as fragile. That is something other people project onto her. I think she is strong, beautiful and talented. This movie willve great.

  11. Rose says:

She lost me when she romanticized being a “laundress”. So pretentious!!

  12. Minty says:

Michelle is a talented actress. Maybe she can pull this off. I’ll withhold judgment until I see the film.

Naomi Watts is talented, too. But I am not looking forward to another film version of Blonde (the first version was a miniseries in 2001). I hated the book – I couldn’t even finish it. Joyce Carol Oates took the “structure” of Marilyn’s life and put every salacious rumor and cheap speculation she could think of and called it a novel. What’s worse, many people think the book is a biography instead of fiction. They think the made-up events in the book actually happened in Marilyn’s life.

Oates portrayed Marilyn as this constant victim. SHE WAS NOT. She was sensitive and sometimes trusted the wrong people, but anyone who has read enough Marilyn biographies wil realize that she also had a lot of strength. She grew up poor with no family support yet through her own determination she became a world-famous film star. She divorced her 1st husband because he didn’t want her to have a career. She divorced her 2nd husband, who also wanted her to be a housewife and was physically abusive. Her 3rd husband was investigated for communist activities by the HUAC and she publicly supporting him, risking her career. She did this even though she could be blacklisted and even though their marriage was already in trouble. During the widespread racial segregation of the 1950s, she stood for equality. She got an important singing gig for Ella Fitzgerald at a popular, whites-only nightclub. Ella said after that her career took off and she never had to sing a small jazz club again.

So many lies are written about this poor woman and people are so ready to believe them without ever doing some simple research.

  13. F5 says:

She annoys me to no end ب_ب

  14. Moi says:

The trailer looks great, I’m impressed.

  15. Kara Ann says:

I wasn’t expecting to like the trailer but I thought it was really good!

BTW, yeah, I really want to like Williams but the little girl “persona” thing annoys me. Could be that she related to Marilyn’s “persona” thing, too.

@#9 Dark Empress: I think she may be all of the things you say, however, that kind of gets lost in photos of her because of her “style”. She does consciously project a little girlish image. I mean it can’t be accidental. Like with Marilyn, I’m curious as to why she does this.

  16. Minty says:

    A couple more things:

Marilyn’s studio, 20th Century-Fox, locked her into a slave contract. They typecasted her in dumb blonde roles when she wanted to do more. They made millions off her films yet they underpaid her: her salary was equivalent to the studio hairdresser even after she was a star. What did Marilyn do? She walked out on her contract and moved to New York City to study acting. She later renegotiated her contract with 20th Century-Fox and was the first star to win director and cinematographer approval. That shows she had inner resources. She wasn’t this passive victim that the media and popular culture regularly promote.

Unlike hard-partying Lindsay Lohan, Marilyn was not a junkie. She was heavily dependent on prescription pills to treat health problems: insomnia, endometriosis, and painful menstruation. She developed a high tolerance for her medication, so she increased her dosage, sometimes mixing the pills with champagne. Those pills had side effects: they made her lethargic. She had to take other pills to wake her up, so she could function at work. Sometimes they didn’t work too well and she couldn’t remember her lines.

Of course, since Marilyn had no children, there are no descendants to protect her legacy or challenge people who smear her name, people like Joyce Carol Oates.

  17. Original Tiffany says:

I’m sorry, but I can’t buy her as MM. She doesn’t have that kind of feline sexiness that MM EXUDED out of every pore. You can tell she is padded up with her being so thin, but being weirdly curvy in some shots.
She said they had to pad her. I just wish they would have gotten a more voluptuous, great actress. Michelle is a good actress, but not sexy. At all.

  18. manele says:

I love Michelle Williams, she is showing herself to be such a rare figure in Hollywood; there’s such a naked truth about her, and this open starkness that makes you want to protect her from everything, even though you get the sense that she can handle it.

The article was unbelievably written, and I was literally sobbing at the end. Very, very insightful and simply bittersweet.

  19. Scout says:

She has the perfect shaped face for that haircut – extremely flattering! As for having to portray Marilyn Monroe – that is a fate I would not wish on anyone! How can anyone pull that off – really! Now, after I see the movie, I may stand self-corrected!

  20. Az says:

First of all, that fist picture doesn’t look like Mia Farrow. It looks like Twiggy. And secondly, blame the stylists who dressed her that was for the photo shoot, not Michelle herself. I think she looks much better with short hair. I also think the movie looks really good.

  21. B says:

I kind of like Michelle Williams sometimes, but I have zero interest in this movie as I have absolutely zero interest in Marilyn Monroe and don’t understand why we’re still obsessing over her decades later.

  22. Minty says:

I find it odd and slightly amusing when people say they have absolutely zero interest in a topic, yet they will take the time to post a comment about said topic. Obsessed much? Seems like pretense.

    LOL & SMH.

  23. NM9005 says:

@Minty: She/he likes Williams and was probably interested in what she had to say. She/he pays for her internet connection just like you so she’s/he’s entitled to comment on whatever pleases her/him.

I don’t even know why I defend this commenter who is just one of the many unknown people behind a computerscreen. Maybe for the same reason you care enough to react by using silly abbreviations. You’re are obsessed too with a commenter named “B”. Even sillier, LOL!

  24. Crimson & Clover says:

I am not sure MWWM looks good–the trailer is kind of a mess and Williams’ voice pisses me off. But I do think she’s talented, and she has the same kind of fragile vibe as Marilyn, though she lacks Marilyn’s sexuality. Still, I think Williams is talented enough to sell it to me over 2 hours.

But what I really want to see is Jennifer Lawrence as Marilyn. I can’t wait until she’s old enough to tackle it.

  25. Minty says:

    @NM9005

First: How am I “obsessed” with B when this is the first time I’ve ever responded to anything he/she said? Please enlighten me.

Second: I never said B couldn’t comment. I responded to B’s disingenuous statement that he/she had absolutely zero interest in Marilyn Monroe, but others who do have an interest in her are sweepingly labeled as being obsessed. You don’t like a particular celebrity? Fine. But don’t insult others who do like that celebrity.

Third: Why do you insert yourself into this? This blog has its own moderators, so don’t become a busybody.

Fourth: You are hardly in a position to criticize my use of abbreviations, since you yourself frequently make grammatical errors and spelling mistakes in your comments. Plus, you have gotten into silly disagreements with others in the past. Yeah, that’s right, I have read several of your posts in the due course of visiting this site.

    Spare me.

  26. SueAnn says:

That dude looks like Glenn Close in her new tranny film…

  27. ManicPixieDreamGirl says:

I’m rooting for Michelle. She worked really really hard. She said she spent 6 months trying to talk herself out of playing the role because she thought she couldn’t pull it off. I don’t think anyone could have done a better job. Sure, Scarlet Johannsen could have captured Marilyn’s massive sex appeal, but the girl cannot act. I can’t wait to see this movie!

  28. NM9005 says:

    @Minty:

    – B wrote one comment about her and you call her obsessed too. What’s the difference?

    – But she/he IS interested a bit in MW. She/he didn’t insult anybody, she/he didn’t understand the interest in MM. I would hardly say that’s insulting. Some people are just not interested in Old Hollywood. If that sets you off or you take that personally you have a pretty low tolerance.

    – Insert? B never talked to you directly either yet you took it upon yourself to answer…her/his opinion.

    – I’m well aware most of the time that my English isn’t all that. I type quite quick and submit too fast sometimes. However, I know my English is very good since it is not my first language. In fact, I know 4 languages coming from multilingual Belgium. It’s easy to get mixed up in writing and some words cause difficulties for me. I always try to improve myself though. And I live in foreign country now where people never know I’m a native Dutch speaker so people like you, who don’t know me, can’t objectively decide my level of English. I’ll let real life people decide that who actually hear me speak or correct my essays (never heard I was bad at English, but hey you know best right?)
You are smart so I don’t understand the appeal of using LOL and consorts. It’s a style used most commonly by teens and it’s just ridiculous. Never have I seen adults use it, except on blogs and for sending texts. Apparently, it is more common there.

    – Oooh yes, at the Jolie thread. Excuse me for not backing down on a completely objective opinion that turn subjective really fast when people start calling you names. And then I’m supposed to stay objective? In other threads I also discuss things but never get attacked as hard at the Jolie threads…never.

Umh, good for you to remember me? Clap clap? Standing ovation?? If I go to sleep at night, I won’t be thinking of you, computer off, people gone…

Look, I never want to start fights. You clearly know a lot about MM and you are interested in the real her. I saw that, I read Old Hollywood biographies too but I won’t get on my high horse because somebody doesn’t happen to like what I like. You take things pretty personal, pretty fast and it shows since you use your little notebook in your head regarding my past comments.
Quite sad that you led internet people control your objectivity.

  29. d says:

ANYWAY, outside of whether Williams is the right actress for the role, thanks Minty for pointing out the mistreatment of Marilyn Monroe in her time and afterward. The London story and how awfully she was treated is not new, it’s been around for years. I’ve always felt Monroe was never fully appreciated for her talents and the sniggering about her sexuality has always been aggravating. How people treat her and behave about her says a lot more about them than it does about Monroe.

  30. Caz1310 says:

With you all in noting Michelle looks great with short hair. Not trying to be Mia Farrow. I also have zero interest in another MM bio. Let her rest in peace. I’m still shuddering at Katie’s rendition of Jackie O.

  31. Vesper says:

@ Minty – Not sure why there are always people on CB who feel the need to condescend or attack the opinions of others instead of focussing on what’s relevant, the original article. Everybody on this site is entitled to their own opinion and they shouldn’t have to justify it to anyone.

  32. Ally says:

I wasn’t expecting to like it, but Michelle Williams (despite the horrible makeup/hair in the Vogue shoot) has the expression and movements down pat in the scenes we see here.

    The plot doesn’t seem idiotic.

The trailer is exceptionally well cut.

Eddie Redmaybe is too creepy and wispy for the part, however. A slightly more masculine young English actor would have been more credible. (Joe D., Arthur M., John F.K. — MM clearly had a pretty alpha male type.)

  33. Isa says:

I just can’t. I try but all I see is Michelle impersonating Marilyn.

If she does win awards, Lilo is gonna cry! And throw stuff.

  34. Alipop says:

    I love Michelle.

  35. constance says:

I agree Mints. I’m not really interested to see MM as another woman in film supposedly portraying herself as feigning a strong sense of self and behind the curtain is horridly tragic. I’ll probably watch it with at least one of my MM obsessed friends, and I think Michelle plays those tragically soft people well.

I’d like to see MM more as the motivated woman calling the shots in her life after hard lessons learned. The way I’d like to envision Liz Taylor, I suppose.

I just thank the Universe that a lot of other cheaper looking blondes in Hollywood did not get this part, if it is as good as the Oscar nods claim.

  36. Stubbylove says:

She bugs the living shit out of me.

  37. Minty says:

    @NM9005:

Oh really? Don’t try to put words in other people’s mouths. B didn’t write he/she didn’t understand the interest. B wrote he/she didn’t understand “why we’re still obsessing (my emphasis) over her decades later.” That’s a marked difference. Calling another’s interest in a celebrity “obsessing” while at the same time declaring you have absolutely zero interest in that celebrity is oh-so-kind and thoughtful, don’t you think? Actually, it’s smug. That’s my opinion. All your Angelina threads show you are not above being “obsessed” yourself.

No hon, you talked directly at me. Did you already forget that you typed “@Minty” in comment 23?

You think using LOL is ridiculous, yet you used LOL at the end of your comment (see #23). Do you even remember what you write? You’re the pot calling the kettle black. In other words, you’re a hypocrite. “Never have I seen adults use it, except on blogs.” Cele/bitchy is a blog. Puh-leeze, it’s not just teens who use abbreviations and internet slang.

Don’t bother bragging about your linguistic accomplishments online. People don’t care. It’s so richly ironic that you are trying to correct the writing of a native English speaker when English is not even your first language (and that’s obvious).

Calling you memorable would be too generous. Your comments are quite ubiquitous here, so it’s too easy to encounter your presence. But if it makes you feel important, have at it. I read everyone’s comments on articles that interest me. You happened to stand out because you post often and act superior while mocking others who disagree with you. And you call yourself objective?

Umm, nobody is “controlling my objectivity”, as you put it. It’s not even required here. Do you have to be reminded that this is a gossip site where people submit their opinions, which are mainly subjective anyway?

The one sitting on a well-worn saddle on his high horse is you. Have a lovely evening.

  38. Minty says:

    @#29:
Thanks d. You are right. MM is underappreciated and underestimated. I often find that those people who have the worst things to say about her know the least. They’ve hardly seen more than one of her films. I doubt they have even read a biography, but they will act like they know everything about her and that “everything” is mainly negative and malicious. Or else, they will just assume the movie persona is the real thing, and not the complicated person behind the artifice. Your last sentence is absolutely spot on.

    @constance:
Pop culture tends to reduce famous people into archetypes. People sometimes forget how complex and sometimes contradictory celebrities really are, just like us non-famous types. I agree, too: Marilyn and Liz both had inner strength underneath the glamorous exterior. They had to have it in order to reach the summit in Hollywood. Yes, thank the heavens that Michelle’s movie employs Oscar-caliber actors!

  39. Minty says:

ETA: No hon, you talked directly at me. Did you already forget that you typed “@Minty” in comment 23?

@NM9005: But of course, you are the victim. You “innocently” post your “objective” opinions and people attack you for it, so you must defend yourself. Yes, everyone who disagrees with you obviously must be wrong. This is happening on a gossip site where subjective speculation rules. How terrible! And you say that I have a pretty low tolerance. You take it upon yourself to defend another commenter from behavior you yourself have exhibited. You pretend to have your emotions in check, all the while displaying a self-righteous and condescending tone in your responses. You couldn’t be more hypocritical if you tried.

  40. Minty says:

    @Vesper:
Need I remind you, too, that this is a gossip blog? It’s nothing terrible like Perez Hilton or YouTube’s comments section, but it’s still a site where people criticize, mock, and “attack” celebrities they don’t like and don’t personally know. There’s no difference between that and criticizing, mocking, and “attacking” strangers who posted opinions you don’t like. Participating in the former while self-righteously complaining about the latter is hypocrisy. NM9005 is a practitioner of that behavior.

You want highbrow, socially polite discourse? Well, you are in the wrong place.

  41. NM9005 says:

Oh my, you’re golden. “Need I remind you”…
Yes, yes, enlighten more people with your knowledge. Highlight words please because we, mere peasants don’t understand these obvious things you speak of. What is next oh almighty Minty? Can we learn a smug dance to honor you???
To say it à la Minty: ROFL & SMH

  42. Minty says:

    @NM9005:

Oh my, you’re actually threatened by someone who has a vocabulary and knows how to write proper English sentences. Are you that insecure? You must be. Boasting of your ability to speak 4 languages to online strangers who couldn’t care less is concrete evidence of that. LMAO!

Please, continue to show how hypocritical you are by complaining about attacking others while you are attacking me, you self-righteous dullard. The irony is precious!

  43. NM9005 says:

Where did I boast about my knowledge? Nowhere. Just said that I can get mixed up sometimes since grammar is a bitch. I never said I am perfect multilingual, I am not btw. If you would look up Belgium on Wikipedia for instance, you could see that it would state that we are in fact multilingual in Dutch, French, German and English. Of course, what does Wikipedia know? Only you know the truth. Only..you…

If you want to belittle my English knowledge, fine go ahead. You keep using that to annoy me I think. But fear not Queen Obvious, I’m not insecure about it, you’re Minty for pete’s sake. MINTY…An internet person with the name Minty is making me feel insecure? Ummh, ok then somebody feels important.

I don’t know you. You feel awfully secure on how you think you make me feel.
You know, based on your knowledge, I should just discard all those teachers in highschool and college who complimented my language skills and just ask you to tudor me. You know, because you can do that objectively. Or all those foreign people I met in my life and who I had meaningful discussions with in various languages. All…dumbasses.
My diploma? A hoax. International exchanges in 4 languages? They all laughed during my presentation. My assertion in 4 languages: complete and utter bullshit. Don’t know how they passed me!
Me moving abroad? Doesn’t matter because Minty decides my English is crap. Guess all those people are lying just to make me feel better. Huh, they probably don’t understand my ramblings anyway and just nod yes. Oh, what an embarassement I am to the world of English speakers *slap in the face*
I bow down to you for making me realize how crap I am.
Only you Minty are the person who knows my true level of language. I shudder when faced with your knowledge. I should make a film about that, it’s going to be called “Warum? Weil Minty das hat gesagt!”

And talk about obesession? Even in another comment to somebody else you can’t resist mocking me.
What it this I feel? oh no, I think I just broke a rib from laughing.

  44. NM9005 says:

Ow sorry if you couldn’t read that, you know I can barely make it one sentence without you going “spellingcheck, grammar please!” all over my ass. Oh the linguistic pain and agony over my bad English is just unbearable, I can feel your resentment and I care so deeply for it hahahaha…

  45. Minty says:

You are a whiny commenter. You started this first by focusing on my use of abbreviations in English, the tactics of twits with nothing better to say. When I point out your writing errors in return, you react like a prissy bitch. Grow a pair. Really, mocking my screen name? That’s the best you can do? Pathetic. You continued this by hypocritically complaining about my attacking B while simultaneously doing the same to me and others. The fact that you have gotten into arguments with various other commenters here (and started this silly conversation with me) says a truckload about your behavior and how negatively you come across. The fact that you constantly write your meandering comments in such a transparently mocking tone illustrates how immature you really are. The fact that you continue to write these comments to me shows how much you care and how sadly dedicated you are to appearing right. Invest in a thesaurus if my vocabulary is reminding you of your deficiencies in English. Your self-flagellation in your petty sarcastic voice is mildly entertaining, though. Carry on!

  46. NM9005 says:

I have gotten into a lot of arguments yes. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. You can’t “win” over the internet. Not even in real life. Some comments do make me think about my opinions, some don’t. Sometimes it can get heated but again, that’s not bad. When I know something, I share or use that info to back up my opinion. Not trying to insult people. I always try to stay neutral and yes, sometimes I fail but I never call people names or get angry. You can’t possible know my feelings because written text doesn’t always express emotions. It can be taken out of context very quickly. Or maybe you see through that too. Another one of your Obvious gifts? I actually enjoy reading people’s comments and replying even though we disagree and rarely get really mad.

I am whiny? Excuse me, but I say ONE thing about abbreviations and you take it upon yourself to bash everything about my English. OR:
“You started this first” aka “wha wha wha”. What grade are you in? How’s that for being whiny?

You are in the lowest rank when judging my skills. AS IF years of multiple language by experienced teachers is going to be discarded just because one stranger named Minty says I suck at English. How’s that for being smug? You have no idea how hard it is to be multilingual so please by all means act like are the almighty linguist just because your native language English is YES, infinitely better than mine. You repeatedly use it just to get me down, while my comment was never that malecious or condescending to begin with. Big deal. But you turned it into a language wars. Why? I don’t know…You think my accomplisments in my short life don’t hold up to your opinion? I don’t think so.

You call somebody pretentious and obsessed just because they don’t get the “obsession” with Marilyn. Wasn’t even a personal remark yet you make it personal, I just though that was out of line. Talking about a high horse, one little remark about “LOL” and you pull out the big guns (even referring to my past posts?).

My last posts are written in that way because that’s how you think I am. You think you’re so important that I question myself and I make a mockery of that. But I guess that kind of Obviousness didn’t trickle through even though you see it’s transparent.
I rather laugh than cry, be angry or whip out a dictionary to shoot back at your belittling comments.

Seriously, if my English was so bad, you wouldn’t take the time to read my comments and answer to them. Or reading my past comments and remembering me. Chile please…Again à la style de Minty (condescendant): Sweetie, honey, baby, pookie, snookums, you also enjoy it so that makes you hypocrite too. At the end we’re both coming back to this post… Unless you enjoy pointing out my mistakes and laughing over it? Well in that case, everybody needs to have a hobby I guess.

Je vous pitié. Alors, c’est suffit pour moi. Je vais quitter avec ses absurdités sur internet avec des étrangers. Je vais dormir and je vais vous oubliez. Merci beaucoup pour l’attention.

  47. Vesper says:

@ Minty – Thx so much for reminding me this is a gossip blog. Yes, I agree this is a site to criticize “celebrities”, but it is expected that one is adult enough to do so without personally mocking other commentators. That includes calling people names, which u seem to do a lot. Hon, did you neglect to read CB’s comment policy? “Celebitchy aims to be a friendly, welcoming site where people can discuss entertainment stories and current events in a lighthearted, safe environment without fear of harassment, excessive negativity, or bullying.”

  48. Vesper says:

@ Minty – Before u type up an extensive reply, please keep in mind my question was meant to be rhetorical, as in NO REPLY IS NECESSARY. Save yourself some time, and give the rest of us a break from your superior vocabulary and English writing skills.

  49. Snowpea says:

    I’m so Team Minty here.

NM9005, you are what we call in Australian English a ‘drongo’. This is a person of very little brain who behaves badly.

From what I can see, your argument is a non-argument. You felt like picking a fight so went straight in, found the nearest commenter and started twisting words around and creating a scenario where you could vent in a legitimate way. Well thats not fair. To then drag your multi-linguism into it as a simultaneous crutch AND escape hatch is just plain bad manners.

Minty’s original comment: ‘I find it odd and slightly amusing when people say they have absolutely zero interest in a topic, yet they will take the time to post a comment about said topic. Obsessed much? Seems like pretense’ was a valid comment in response to the commenter above.

It was expressed with respect and brevity. At no point did she/he put that person down.

It wasn’t until you weighed in did it start becoming disrespectful, contemptuous and convoluted.

I suggest you take up kickboxing to vent some of your pent up anger.

  50. Minty says:

    @Vesper:

“That includes calling people names, which u seem to do a lot.” Oh, spare me. The only one I was calling names was NM9005, after he/she started with the stupidities. I had every right to defend myself. I rarely comment here and the comments I have left before this article had no namecalling or condescension towards other commenters. So, whaddya know? You’re making stuff up.

My comment about B was valid, legitimate, and quite tame (Thank You, Snowpea for getting the point). I didn’t hear any complaints from B. If he/she had a problem with what I wrote, he/she was free to respond back. If you want to get offended on other people’s behalf over small things, that’s your prerogative. I certainly wasn’t rude to you.

AND you responded to me directly with @Minty, so I’m not buying for one second that you were just posing a rhetorical question. You stuck your nose into this, playing etiquette police. Funny how you join in with NM9005, using cheap sarcasm to make an issue of my writing style: “…give the rest of us a break from your superior vocabulary and English writing skills.” Wow. Really? Writing well is a liability now. LOL! NM9005 made it a point to harp on my abbreviations and vocabulary in the first place, because the fool was trolling and couldn’t defend his own hypocritical behavior.

You’re engaging in the same behavior you were just complaining about. What’s your excuse? You certainly are no better. Next time, mind your own business if you don’t want a rebuttal to your replies.
