When the news first came out about a paternity lawsuit against Justin Bieber, a lot of people found the woman’s story potentially credible. At that point, we’d only read the legal documents and heard from her lawyers, who claimed their client was believable and that she was in possession of evidence to prove that she had sex with Justin Bieber in a bathroom following one of his concerts in L.A. Her story was detailed, her baby was the right age to have been conceived at that concert, and the baby did bear a resemblance to Bieber. It just seemed like it would take a real nutjob to go to those lengths to file a paternity suit that was untrue. Well, once we found out more about Bieber’s accuser, and especially once she sold an interview to one of the nightly tabloid shows, she started to look like a total whack job. She had been arrested for assaulting an ex, whom she first accused of fathering the baby, and she had trouble recalling details from the night in question. Well it looks like everyone who was calling Yeater a crazy person out for cash and attention was right. She’s dropped the paternity suit against Justin Bieber. I guess she didn’t want to get the pants sued off of her:
Single mother Mariah Yeater has quietly dismissed her paternity suit against teenage pop star Justin Bieber.
The 20-year-old, who gave birth to son Tristyn four months ago, has apparently had a change of heart after filing legal action against the Canadian singer two weeks ago.
Her lawsuit seeking a paternity test and child support was withdrawn last week, according to TMZ.com.
Lance Rogers and Matt Pare, the two lawyers who were representing Yeater, have apparently resigned.
The withdrawal of the suit comes after Bieber not only said he would submit to a DNA test, but was also planning to sue Yeater for making a bogus claim.

I guess we can put this story to rest then. I know this girl has a baby to support, but I hope that whatever she made from selling her fake story and posing for baby pictures and videos has been thoroughly absorbed by lawyers fees.
Meanwhile Bieber was spotted out with a “mystery woman” in London on Monday night. He then flipped off the paparazzi. It’s not the first time he’s done that, so maybe he wasn’t busted on a date so much as pissed off at the photographers. Who knows what they’re shouting at this punk.
Update: Thanks to those of you who pointed out this story on Radar which has an interview with Yeater’s lawyer. She has a new legal team and they’re still trying to get a DNA test. Her lawyer says that there have been death threats against Yeater and the baby.
“I did not step down and there is a legal team. It’s a new legal team. In light of death threats against my client, strategies have been reviewed…the San Diego team has been replaced by John Carlson from Los Angeles,” Jeffrey Leving, a Chicago paternity attorney who took on Yeater as a client, explained over the phone with WGNtv in Chicago.
“She believes Justin Bieber is the father. Right now there’s no more interviews for Mariah Yeater, I’m not going to allow that. Secondly, negotiations are going on right now with Bieber’s counsel and we’re trying to negotiate a private, secure DNA test with the same safe guards that would exist if there were a court order, but without a court order.
“The case is completely out of control and I don’t want something terrible to happen to my client or her child.”
While it’s still unclear whether or not Yeater’s case is still technically active, Leving said he hopes he won’t have to file a new lawsuit.
“My goal is that when the DNA test is completed, which I believe it will be…my goal is to keep everything confidential so the results will remain confidential,” he said.

Given this woman’s interview and the details about her past, I’m still not buying that Bieber is the father or that he paid her off. DNA will tell though.

The probable truth will be what his people say. If they don’t call her a crazy liar or threaten to sue her, the odds are very good a private DNA test showed him as the father, or she had terrific proof he was the father, and they paid her off to STFU about it. If his people ravage her verbally, then all bets are off.

If the COURT had dismissed the suit, I would agree with this post that this shows her claims were meritless.
But when the plaintiff voluntarily dismisses a case, it’s often because the case was settled out of court confidentially. In my experience as a lawyer if a plaintiff voluntarily withdrawals a meritless suit, the defendant will move the court to have the plaintiff pay some or all of the defendant’s fees incurred in defending the suit. It doesn’t look like Bieb’s team is doing that here, which is odd.
If she was whacky enough to file the suit, I don’t see why she would suddenly drop it now.
My hunch is that Biebs people entered into a confidential settlement with her contingent on her withdrawing the suit and any DNA testing/-and that the settlement came with a big payment and a requirement that she never speak about it again.
Or…she could just be a whack job that withdrew her suit. But the context of it is suspicious.
My take: she filed the paternity suit in hopes of receiving hush money. When bieber didn’t back down and agreed to a paternity test once he returned to north america (likely couldn’t take it in Europe since most courts will only take test results from known and proven labs, and it is highly unlikely that such a list would include European labs), the girl and her “legal” team decided to test the waters by going on a soft hitting entertainment show (not 20/20, not 60 Minutes). When she couldn’t stand up to the ridiculously easy questioning of that interview, she knew that things would get worse, not better, so she dropped her suit, in hopes that bieber will drop his.
I hope that he doesn’t, and perhaps that will stop a few of these loonies. I also hope that what ever self-regulatory body that disciplines lawyers will also examine the conduct of her lawyers, because I believe that they encouraged this behaviour from a girl who was not of sound mind, and were just as famewh@ry as Mariah. The world does not need more Gloria Allreds.

I haven’t seen anywhere except for TMZ that her attorneys have resigned from the case. There is a difference, as attorneys on here can tell you, between an attorney firing a client (as Shawn tried to do with Lohan), and an attorney no longer being retained/needed. If there was a confidential settlement, either attormeys are no longer needed because it’s done, or she has retained a Family Law attorney, or one specializing in financial settlements.

Why pay her off now? If Bieber even thought there was a shred of truth to the claim, he would have addressed it with “a pay off” right away. The only way I will believe a payoff took place is if her lifestyle is suddenly and substantially upgraded.

I think his handlers are smart enough that if she was paid to hush up, there would be steps taken to make sure that her lifestyle doesn’t sound off any alarms to the press. We’ll have to see what this kid looks like in 10 years and if he’s going to a private school. Payoffs can and do happen. I heard Jay-Z also has an illegitimate love child whose mom was paid off. These kids will be kept away from the spotlight at all costs. They probably have trust funds and bank accounts in Switzerland or the Cayman Islands under a different name so that the public will never know the truth. It makes me suspicious that this is going away so quietly.

Not necessarily. If she’s looking for support Biebers lawyers could set up a trust that pays a tightly monitored amount each month and that any extras have to be approved by a 3rd party. There could also be a trust for the child at 18 or 21. We wouldn’t truly know if she was ‘blinging’ unless Bieber was so scared that he gave her whatever she wanted – which I highly doubt. She’s a young girl and his lawyers will absolutely use that to their advantage.
And keep in mind that just because he SAID he was willing to take a test does not mean that he actually is willing.
I don’t see what Mariah Yeater’s so-called “crazy” status has to do with anything. Seems like if he were not the father, he’d take the test and establish the truth at this point. And, he’d sue her whatever, as the damage has already been done to his reputation. But he’s not suing her. Cos he is the father, and he paid her off. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.
I’m not a Beiber hater. I looked him up on youtube about a year ago because my younger siblings were debating if he was any good or not. I saw him play a song on guitar and couldn’t figure out why so many hate him when from what I saw, he’s clearly a dedicated singer/musician with talent.

What stands out the most or sounds so sketchy is the fact that her new team of lawyers want to keep the results of the paternity test confidential, meaning even this new team of lawyers don’t belive her and are not 100% confident that the baby is JB. They are claiming that they want the results confidential to protect the child, but in reality it just sounds like they want the results of the paternity test kept confidential to save face just in case the paternity test doesn’t show that JB is the father.

I’m no fan of his music but the fact is that Justin is 17 years old, just a kid himself. I have no idea why people are so eager to see him go down in flames. From what I can tell, he seems like a nice boy despite becoming rich and famous at such a young age.
(Incidentally, I don’t think he should support his paternal grandparents. He’s a teenager, not an ATM. Besides which, his paternal grandparents haven’t seen Justin since he was a baby and don’t even need his money since they earn a good income.)
This whole situation is really sickening.
I feel bad for the baby, but I hope Justin follows through on his threat to sue Mariah Yeater, so that she doesn’t profit from her lies.
Kind of late to this party, but it sounds to me like this Mariah girl got herself some better lawyers and Bieber’s “handlers” are going to pay her to take the baby and disappear. This happens to famous people all the time and it’s pretty irresponsible to run with it before any facts are in. As seen just some due diligence showed the unknown person has a pretty ridiculous history. Sounds funny unless you worked your whole life in a career to have such garbage used against you and people running with the rumor for no reason. Really, his real crime is being an annoying teen Youtube sensation which is actually all talent and charisma related.
The press only ran with this so early and fact free because they loved the reputation ruining headlines a “Justin Bieber Paternity” line got them. Smiling while delivering it was a sick clue.
They threw journalism and fact checking away which says everything about them and their publications and nothing about the dancing kid.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it SOP to keep paternity tests “confidential” between the court, attorneys, and parents involved? (Here in Cali, Family Court records are routinely sealed to protect the innocent children.)
The only time DNA results are revealed is when one party or another (or their attorneys or “handlers”) blab it to the media for their benefit.
Thinking of a future of raising a child in these uncertain times, I’d probably take a large pay off and quietly raise my baby off the grid.

I’m no Bieber fan, but I think he needs to play hardball with this girl in order to prevent others from running the same game on him. If he lets this go quietly, and people speculate that he’s paid her off, all of the crazies will come out of the woodwork for their shot at fame and a cash payoff.
