Salma Hayek says she is financially successful due to awesome karma, basically

salmamc1

Quite recently, Salma Hayek discussed her acne-triggered depression, and Kaiser theorized that Salma was using the topic as a talking point to relate to the little people. It was a very valid hypothesis given that Salma is now married to a billionaire, but it appears that Salma also had another purpose to bringing up the topic; that is, Salma is now promoting her own anti-pimple medication. It’s an over-the-counter product that is part of her beauty line, Nuance Salma Hayek, which contains 100 different items (cosmetics, moisturizers, and cleansers) that are now available online and at a CVS drugstore near you. It’s quite a departure from the image of a spitfire actress with a huge rack even though the cover of this magazine obviously highlights Salma’s most prominent assets. Here are some excerpts from the interview, which also takes the editorial stance that Salma has basically done the vast majority of of the creation and chemical work for her line. Is she full of crap? Maybe.

She does the work: “I don’t know that many people in my position who would actually put that much time into it. It’s a lot easier to get a contract or say that you are doing the work when it’s really someone else. I don’t think my own agency-or even I-knew how stubborn I was going to be. Because I have a background in a different field, it can be hard to negotiate and make a good deal for myself. People always underestimate me. But if you stick around long enough, act out of conviction, and try to be honorable in everything you do, good things will come to you. I have seen karma work in this business.”

She uses all the Nuance Salma Hayek stuff: “We have a pimple medication that treats the spot and the discoloration on your face at the same time,” she says with obvious pride. “It’s one of the best products we have.”

On being married to billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault: “He’s the best thing that ever happened to me and my work. I was trying to figure out how to have a child on my own. I came to terms with saying, ‘[Love] might not happen, and I have to be OK with that.’ Then someone came along whom I never would have pictured or thought I would have wanted; he was completely out of my box. Even though I was not looking, I was present and I was open. I am the luckiest person I know.”

She’s kind of over acting: “What once was an expression of who I was – acting – also became my hiding place. But now I don’t depend on it so much for my happiness or my identity. And since it’s not my priority, I am doing the best work I’ve ever done.”

[From Marie Claire @Work]

While I can admire Salma’s entreprenurial drive in creating this line of beauty products, I have to wonder where she came up with the start-up capital for such a product. Did she put up the money herself or pound the pavement looking for investors? Or was it a case of her billionaire husband financing the entire schbang? Who knows. I’ll admit to a bit of jealousy here because Salma will never have to worry about money for the rest of her life, but it seems awfully convenient for Salma to say that merely perservering and acting with conviction will make somebody rich because of the “karma” involved. Salma does acknowledge that she is “the luckiest person” she knows, but still, she is so out of touch with reality. It’s almost like she’s becoming the Latina Goop.

By “karma” she means Pinault’s d-ck? Makes sense…

    • Dap says:

      Ahaha! Well put!

    • marlee says:

      Exxxxactly.

      • lrm says:

Yea, my first thought was ‘well, if you mean by karma that you got an incarnation with genetically big t*ts and gorgeous looks, then yes, your karma got you where you are’…i usually dont even click on her posts anymore-she’s SO smug and obnoxious. I could care less about her, and I don’t even think i’ve ever seen her in a movie. whatever, salma.
Go feel great about yourself; no need to share it with the rest of us.
I feel the same about Penelope Cruz, and funny enough, they are friends. though salma for sure is more annoying.

  2. lolaluvsu2 says:

My karma says I’ll marry a billionaire too

  3. Gene Parmesan says:

Very unusual senseless Pictorial. Terry Richardson???

  4. Lem says:

She has been working in this line FOREVER and I for one have been not so patiently waiting at least a decade

  5. someone says:

this sounds awful, but i honestly wonder if she would have actually married this guy if he didn’t have billions…i’m leaning towards no, but hey maybe i’m a cynic

    • Kathy says:

Absolutely not. And that isn’t a comment about his looks. That’s a comment about what she wanted. The financial security and lifestyle he provides was #1 on her list. Everything else was a very distant second. There’s a difference between marrying a fellow millionaire and marrying someone with his money, connections and power. There are not a lot of men in the world with his position. She is a savvy woman.

    • ol cranky says:

“He’s the best thing that ever happened to me and my work.

this says is all for me

      • Nash says:

Exactly, you don’t even have to read between the lines here to know the reason why she’s with this guy. It’s clear enough.

  6. Jaded says:

I’ve tried her skin cream – meh. It’s overly perfumed which I hate and isn’t the miracle in a bottle that she touts. It’s just a very average, albeit strongly scented, skin cream. However she is becoming insufferable about her amazing life and husband. I wish she would just STFU and get on with her billionaire lifestyle quietly as it’s beginning to sound like nothing but bragging.

  7. Chatcat says:

Of course she doesn’t have to act (not that she was actually any good at it anyway)…she married a billionaire! I hate hate hate when celebs think that us masses are idiots and “talk down” in interviews. Hey Saalma we’re not idiots…what we are is simply entertained by idiots like you and you give us much material in which to spend time on blogs with our friends like Kaiser and Bedhead and such.

  8. Ann says:

I never was impressed by her “acting”, hope her skin care line is better than her painfully self-conscious attempts at acting. Yeah, yeah, I know, “Frida”. Even there she was mediocre at best.

    • Coucou says:

Grrr, i wish i could agree with you, but did you see “Frida?” Dayamn.

    • kris says:

@coucou- Agreed! She was fantastic in Freida. When people say she was bad really makes me question whether or not they have really even seen it. Not all her performances were great..but that one really was.

    • launicaangelina says:

I loved her in Desparado too! She was sexy and had great chemistry with Antonio Banderas. It’s a fun, cheesy movie.

  9. marie says:

Goop just felt a cold wind pass over her shoulder. I imagine her rushing to check the internet and seeing the words Latina Goop, only to scoff as she takes to Twitter to type in perfect Spanish “I Am the Original, I Am the Only..”

    • lower-case deb says:

Please take note also that Goop’s Spanish is from Spain. not Mehiko.

One cannot just swim the Rio Grande to get Goop’s La Espana.

excuse me while I cry into my Fortnum & Mason’s tea.

  10. Jess says:

Yeah, I’ve stuck around, done good things, and had conviction, and karma hasn’t done beans for me. I say, forget karma, and get huge boobs. That’s what I need!

  11. FactsPlease says:

    From IMBD:

“Hayek has freely admitted that she and her brother, Sami, were spoiled rotten by her well-to-do Lebanese-Mexican businessman father and her Mexican-born opera-singing mother.”

  12. Hmmm says:

    Well, isn’t she special.

  13. Happy21 says:

Another celeb who comes across as a complete a-hole…hmmm…add her to the list…

  14. littlestar says:

Okay, I’ve actually used the pimple cream she is talking about and… It works! It’s actually really good! I hated myself for buying a “celebrity product”, but I sometimes have mild acne, and am always willing to try something new to get rid of it. It’s really nice – put it on before bed and the zits are almost gone by morning. I think it mostly works on mild acne though, not severe cases.

  15. Alexis says:

She has always annoyed me. Now I have more of a reason to dislike her.

  16. lucy2 says:

If she’s found something she’s interested in and is making it a profitable business, good for her. But I’m sure marrying a billionaire helped a LOT for money and connections.
Did anyone else find what she said about him odd? Doesn’t sound like true love, just she wanted a kid and suddenly there was a rich guy wanting her, and problem solved.

  17. Lizbet says:

    Latina Goop! Exactly!

    • Trashaddict says:

Nah. She has massively better taste in fashion than Goop and actually knows how to style herself. Of course, a good clothes allowance helps….

  18. dorothy says:

What she means is Karma = Billionaire husband.

  19. garvels says:

Duhh…….She’s financially successful because she married a billionaire…..nothing to do with Karma.

  20. hstl1 says:

Why all the hate? She was successful before she met her husband. I think in Hollywood you have to but your butt but it is a little bit of karma too.

I think her priority now is her daughter. That came through in a recent interview for Lucky magazine.

Hey, you can hate me too if I ever happen to marry rich.

    • garvels says:

It is not hate…I simply do not like the smug, ungrateful beotch. I read another interview where she dissed the U.S….the country where she made all of her money..needless to say I have no desire to buy any of her products. So she can go sell her pimple cream in China or Latin America.

      • dahlia1947 says:

So she dissed the U.S. huh? Then how about giving us back our movie ticket money?
Go resell them (your movies)to the French!

She’s like Johnny Depp. Makes his money here and sits on his throne talking crap about the U.S. in his French accent.

        Go away losers!

    • Raven says:

I’m with you on this. It is also ironic that if a person says karma, they are dissed, but if they say blessed, everyone says “how wonderful”.

She’s gorgeous, smart, and knows how to use what she’s got. Why waste time being jealous of someone like that?

      • Minty says:

Hmmm, Salma should publicly thank the plastic surgeon(s) who gave her a great rack and a better nose. She should also thank her rich parents for enabling her to pursue her acting career without having to work as a waitress or bartender and experience financial struggles. Yes, she earned millions and had plenty of help doing it. Her looks and privileged family background gave her a leg up. Now she has a billionaire husband. Karma had nothing to do with it. At this point it sounds like a lot of bragging. She should just shut up already.

  21. Jessica says:

She has a crown on her womb!!! lol

  22. paola says:

‘He’s the best thing that ever happened to me and my work’

Yes, his money is the reason of her success ( as well as the boobs)
I’ve always seen her like a not really attractive woman, she looks a bit like a fury monkey to me, and her Frida portrait..they look like twins! same moustache.

  23. Gypsyqueen says:

Well, Salma was born into a well to do family, she never had to scrape the barrel. If it wasn’t Pinault, perhaps she would have married some other wealthy guy thanks to her family connection/business. At least this woman does something with her time other than shopping and bitching (like RHOBH)

  24. velourazure says:

    i like her suit.

  25. TG says:

I did not bother to read any of the media on Salma and her acne. I no longer believe or read stories about celebs purportedly who were bullied or had acne growing up. I just think most of them are lying and what do you know a few weeks later she is shilling an acne product. Other than that I have always thought she was pretty and she never bothered me in movies.

  26. Jayna says:

I like her. She is a worker bee. She produced Ugly Betty.

    • miri says:

I like that she does not sit on her butt and just enjoy the money she could inherit, the money she made acting and producing, the money from her rich husband and the money she makes from her cosmetics company… she still does acting and other HW works and still finds how to do other things. She is an entreprenous.
It is also true that she has always been rich, but it is also true that she faced the old Hw stereotypes of maids and sexy Latina ethnic girls in HW.
She had to do some of those before she started producing some stories she wanted to tell about strong female characters.
She is a good example, and no, I am not basing her sucess on marrying a rich man. She was sucessful before that. He also could have gotten any 20something braindead girl, and he went for a woman in her forties with a good story of work behind her, and seemingly, also brains.

  27. The Original Mia says:

Selma was successful before Pinault. Her production company has several Oscar-nominated films & Emmy-winning productions under its label. She has a production deal with MGM for her company. And she was an executive producer of Ugly Betty. She may not have been a billionaire, but she’s been a multi-millionaire for years.

    • D1 says:

Please stop attacking us with truth and reality. We are determined to cut this woman down to size and give her husband credit for everything she has ever accomplished in her life. Logic has no place here.

  28. Kandace says:

Is “I’m the luckiest person I know” the new “I’m/we’re very blessed”??

I hate both phrases. It comes across as so smug and self-satisfied. I’m glad you feel so damn lucky!! It comes across very differently when someone of meager means says something like this. But when an enormous celebrity does, it’s just annoying.

I’d rather hear something like, “I feel grateful for where I am in my life.”

  29. Amy says:

Is it wrong for people to admit they feel lucky? I would rather have that than false modesty.

  30. Ashley says:

“Being married to billionaire is the BEST thing that ever happened to me”????
    Go figure…

  31. Loulou says:

Her grandmother was some kind of botanist or chemist I read some time ago. It was an article where she said she used her grandmother’s formulas and had them done in a variety of laboratories that she did credit her husband for having access to, however she said in spite of using great labs the price point would make her line accessible to regular women (not married to moguls) (she didn’t say that last part). I think it’s great. I like her. And if I had acne, I’d give her cream a try just because.

  32. TruthTella says:

Ok… I get that Salma has turned kind of snooty and probably lords it over “lessors” because she’s married to a Billionaire but lets not forget that before she even met him she was a Millionaire many times over and could support herself for the rest of her life with or without her husband.

  33. Elizabeth says:

I think her “karma” and success in acting were funded by her very rich parents. She was never a struggling actress and never served coffee while waiting for her big break. Personally though I like her acting.

  34. Normal-san says:

I didn’t know that selling your soul to the Illuminati racked up good karma points, aaaaand I learned something today.

  35. Normal-san says:

I didn’t know that selling your soul to the Illuminati racked up good karma points, aaaaand I learned something today. Sends my regards to Luci.

  36. kris says:

If I can look half as good as her when I’m 45, you bet your ass I’ll use her facial products!

  37. LittleDeadGirl says:

Oh come on, give her a break. She said act honorably and work hard. When did that become bad thing to say? She’s not GOOP at all.

  38. crtb says:

    Karma and big tatas

  39. Boo says:

Wait, someone remind me…didn’t her billionaire husband knock up some other famous woman smack dab in the middle of his relationship with ol’ Sal here? Lucky!!

She annoys me because I can never quite understand what she is saying. She and Penny Cruz are in the “my accent remains thick despite working in English films for a long, long, time and having plenty of money for speech lessons. I think everyone thinks the accent is sexy, so FU if you plebes out there in middle America can’t understand me.” Whatever.

  40. Dana M says:

    Good for her!

  41. Francesca says:

I agree with her..some people are just born ‘lucky’.I think she is one of those people and so I am. All my life amazing things always comes my way.

  42. sandy says:

rofl, she’s financially successful because she married a billionaire! That was Monopoly 101.. one of the things they teach you when you start playing the game 🙂

  43. SalmaHayekFan says:

Salma needs to get divorced from this obnoxious deadbeat dad husband as soon as possible. It will be a great day when this happens.
