Well, we were all waiting to see what The It Girl was going to wear, and I think some of us were disappointed. First of all, although Kerry Washington did get to go on stage (with the amazing, vivacious and gorgeous Diane Carroll), Kerry did not end up winning Best Actress in a Drama. She lost to Claire Danes. Which is fine, I guess. I imagine Kerry will be up for other awards in the years to come, and we will see so much of her I’m sure. When I saw Kerry’s Marchesa dress in motion, I hated it. But in these photos… I don’t hate it AS much as I did last night. I mean, she still could have done so much better. She’s a beautiful woman who can wear nearly any color. I don’t know what possessed her to wear Marchesa (why is she sucking up to Harvey?!), but at least she didn’t look like a deranged ice skater. Still, this dress is BAD. She should have known better.
Here’s my girl Mindy Kalling in Edition by Georges Chakra. I hate this dress, I hate her hair, and I have no opinion on her makeup. What kills me about Mindy is that I know she cares. She cares so much about hair, makeup and clothes. So why does she look like this at the Emmys?! Sidenote: does anyone else think The Mindy Project has far exceeded New Girl at this point?
And here’s Robin Wright in Ralph Lauren. I love Robin but she looks like a half-finished drag queen. Like, the turtleneck is covering her Adam’s apple and she’s looking for her Marilyn wig.
And Allison Janney in Lorena Sarbu. I love Allison so much but I do not understand why she’s wearing this ugly dress.

All of these gowns are beyond fug. Honestly, this awards show featured some of the WORST fashion choices ever made.
I think Mindy looks great. And yes, The Mindy Project is better than New Girl. They should get her rid of some characters, though.
I love Allison so so much, but that dress is not good. And she looks better with shorter hair, ala CJ Cregg.
Kerry looks like some poor bird got stuck in her cleavage.
I like Mindy’s and buttercup’s dresses. Kerry looks bad in the Marchesa.
I adore both these women, craptastic dresses notwithstanding (Kerry does get a pass for being a first offender though. Mindys impugnity on the other hand………)
Mindy Project has some race and gender issues imho. I want to believe that the network is messing with her writing because I dont want to think that she would ordinarily let that stuff pass. It would be a major fail if so.
@Suze – I heard an interview with Kaling where she discussed this. According to her, it’s funny how often minorities can harbor prejudices against other minorities. She’s trying to shine a light on that in a humorous way.
Whether she succeeds in doing that without being offensive is up to the individual viewer to decide. For me (as a minority), I do enjoy her show and don’t find it offensive -somehow the across-the-board gaspworthy things said translate into funny. I know others may see it differently.
I dont hate Kerrys dress but it would have looked alot better if it fit her properly. It makes her look preggers. Robin Wright looks beautiful as always.

I don’t understand the ribbon portion of Kerry’s dress. Nothing above the waist makes sense to me. Even if she is pregnant she still could have worn a great dress. Loved loved Matt Damon’s wife’s dress.

Trust me, I am never a fan of Marchesa. Maybe Kerry’s innate fashion sense is elevating the dress to her level. Maybe its just because I’m such a KW fangirl. Whatever, she was one of my favorite looks this year.

My thoughts as well when I saw thw weight gain, particularly in the boob area. However, i’m always wrong, so wonder why I keep calling these pregnancy as soon as someone gains abit of weight!!!!!

That was actually my first thought when I saw the first picture. Because the dress is giving her a little gut that we all know she doesn’t have. Maybe it’s the way it’s draped? She looks a little wider to me in it.
But I agree with Eve (?). She looks like a wedding cake–but I think she pulls it off without looking completely awful.

Seriously, though…you have to admit my girl Kerry brings the dress up (not quite but almost) to her level of fabulosity. She’s close to Cate Blanchett-level style and could make a Hefty bag look chic and stunning.

If I didn’t know any of the actresses and it had been titled “guys wear dresses to the Emmys” it would have been totally believable. They’re all fantastic actresses and are styled so aggressively against themselves. They don’t fit an “ideal”, why would a stylist push it on them, why not use their attributes to emphasize their personal style. Mindy, gurl, I heart you but we need to talk about the neckline.

I actually like Allison’s dress. I loved it when I saw her in motion… as she walked across the stage. She is a tall girl. And I feel this dress suited her.
Now Kerry’s dress. All I can say is… bless her heart. She must have lost a bet. And had to wear that dress.

I love the skirt, but the strapping on the bodice makes it look unfinished. And that weird, dirty-ish, pale non color strikes again. Granted Kerry pulls it off better than most actresses, but she would have looked stunning in a stronger color.

Yep, I think she’s pregnant. Or at the very least she’s put on a few (imo) much needed pounds. She looks much like she did before she became an “It Girl”, dropped down to bobble head size and became interested in fashion.

1- Kerry looks pregnant;
2- She is sucking up to Harvey because she wants to make a (successful) transition from TV to movies ASAP;
3- Everybody else looked horrible.
First thought was – that is so ugly! Second thought – I should have known that was Marchesa.
Thei caught a new show where she said that she was at [fashion] shows recently and this was the final piece to come down the runway and she loved it sho that she called them ASAP before another actress could snatch it up.

I disagree. I think Kerry’s gown is elegant, classy and gorgeous – from the waist down. The top part looks all tattered and like masking tape was wrapped around her. Make over the top and that gown is something I would kill for.

But I have to respectfully disagree about the Mindy Project. It’s honestly one of the worst shows. I still watch it because I keep hoping it will get better…but it is not even in the same league as New Girl. Fact.
I love Mindy and she can do no wrong in my book… And I disagree on her show. I think it started slow but is really only getting better. The actors are getting more comfortable with their characters which make the characters more dynamic. I don’t watch New Girl so I can’t compare it to that. Fact.
I totally love Mindy too, but her show sucks. Unlike the horrible Lena Dunham (why? WHY?) Mindy actually has talent, so I hope they can rework her show and tighten it up a little bit. But the dress – Si, ¡qué asco!
