These are photos of Cameron Diaz shopping at Whole Foods over the weekend. She appears bemused at the paparazzi interest, but I’m surprised she didn’t lecture them about cheating. Or waxing. Or worse. Cameron is on a much needed press break, and rumor has it that she’s back in the dating game. Was she ever really out of it? Probably not, but she’s been busy. Now that Cami is back in LA for more than a few days, there are buzzings that she is hooking up with Benji Madden. Benji’s the twin brother of Joel (husband to Nicole Richie), and they’re both members of Good Charlotte. He has a rocker-boy status, but Benji is fairly quiet and unassuming. Cameron is … not. This is a very unexpected coupling:

The actress, 41, has been spotted spending quality time (and gym time!) with Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden, 35, multiple times over the last month.
“They’ve spent a lot of time at Cameron’s house,” says one source. “Cameron seems very happy with Benji. He is the nicest guy and treats her like a lady.”
The duo worked out together at a Los Angeles Equinox on Friday after hitting the same book launch the night before.
“They seemed very friendly,” adds another source of the gym outing. “And they looked like they were trying to avoid [being seen outside], but Cameron was super friendly with other people [at the gym]. She even taught a girl how to use one of the arm weight machines.”
Diaz has been friends with Nicole Richie – Madden’s twin brother’s wife – for quite some time. Perhaps a double date is in order?
Reps for both stars have not responded to requests for comment.

I’ve seen this report at a few other outlets, but since People is running with the story, it’s probably true. Is this an upgrade or downgrade for Cameron? Considering how Cami usually dates grade-A a-holes, this is a step up. I can’t always tell Joel and Benji apart, but Benji has a reputation as a really nice guy. He doesn’t have great taste in women — he made out with Miley Cyrus last year and dated Paris Hilton for awhile. Cameron’s past partners are known for high profile hookups too, so Benji’s dating history shouldn’t be a liability.
This could be an interesting couple. My curiosity is piqued.

Benji’s actually a decent guy. Met the band 4 times (I grew up when GC was at their prime) and they’re all really nice and very respectable. Generalizations like that are harsh for no reason. Just because he dated some skivvy girls doesn’t mean he necessarily has herpes.

Years ago one of the celeb mags did a six-degrees-of-separation chart using some confirmed cases of herpes — I seem to recall that included Paris Hilton and ARod– at the center, showing who’s dated who. The bottom line is that most celebs probably have it, since most have been exposed to it and it’s not something condoms can really protect against.
It’s a strange couple to me. Not only are the Madden twins are quite homely by Hollywood standards, but Cameron is athletic so I’m surprised she would date someone who looks like a total couch potato.

And no, you can’t catch genital herpes twice. Or sorry, HSV-2. If you think you can well, I really recommend you brush up on some basic sex ed/biology 101.
You can get both types HSV-1 or 2 anywhere on the body. Supposedly, some immunity is provided by already having one type, usually HSV-1, but there is no guarantee, and there are different strains that are more or less virulent.

As Kiddo said, you can certainly contract both HSV 1 and HSV 2 on your genitals. It is likely that one won’t be as bad as the other, but you can get both strains on the same spot (or both on your face).
Also, it’s childish and ridiculous to continue to make herpes jokes in this day and age. It’s a super common condition where the worst aspect for sufferers is the shame due to bs like this and not the actual skin disorder.

Just to shock you — “cold sores” and “fever blisters” are herpes sores. A lot of people have/get them as kids. You know more people with herpes than you think you do.

With full gushing approval from Hilary’s stage mom, who thought he would help her career. He did do some music video work for her before they eventually and not surprisingly broke up. Hilary said she started pursuing him when she was still 15.

You’re right, now I remember it was the one who ended up with Nicole Ritchie, which would be Joel. But Hilary most certainly was not 18+ at the time. They did keep it under wraps for a while, as I recall, but I don’t remember for how long. The actual time the relationship began was revealed later although he had been clearly around (the excuse was that he was helping with the music and there was no PDA).. I was paying attention to the Hilary Duff phenomenon at the time (as yet another mystery) and only knew about his band because of that. She was hardly sixteen and definitely said she started things in motion when she was still 15. Much was made at the time of their nine year age difference and the fact that she was underage. The Madden twins were 25 at the time. The public story was that they were chaperoned and it’s actually possible nothing illegal was going on, but they were seriously dating. It was such an odd pairing, but maybe it was mainly a business arrangement from his end and so he was humoring her. Or maybe he was just immature enough for it to be feasible. He didn’t strike me as a perv. I think Benji had something to do with the music end of it, though, which would not be surprising. Hilary still had her usual limitations, but the production work was decent.

They look pretty much alike to me. Enough so I had trouble remembering which one was dating the young Hilary Duff… (See above, it wasn’t Benji.) But if Hilary’s husband looks like the twins, it wouldn’t be too odd. Many people have a type, and she was dating Joel Madden in her mid teens (he was 25 and she was just barely 16 at the start, and she was the initiator). Mama approved. Hilary’s mama, that is.
