About that time Ariana Grande was completely rude to an MTV contest winner…

FFN_PAJ_iHeart_Afterparty_092014_51535562

Ariana Grande is aware of her growing reputation as an insane diva, you guys. She’s making an effort. An effort to show us the right side of her face. Briefly! Then she pivots away from being photographed on her right side or full-on, so that people get the left side of her face. These are photos of Ariana at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas on Friday. Note the little cat ears. Cute.

Did you know that all of the artists that appear at the iHeartRadio fest are barely paid? It’s true. They’re paid in exposure and a chance to suck up to radio executives. Nicki Minaj was there too, although she didn’t walk the carpet. Minaj and Grande performed “Bang Bang” together, without Jessie J. Here’s a video:

It’s not bad. It’s actually better than the VMA performance, maybe because Ariana wasn’t trying to do one too many things as she performed, like sing, dance and only show the left side.

Speaking of the VMAs, I never got the chance to dedicate a post to this, but this story has come up a lot in the past few weeks, as every media outlet has piled on with their own stories about Ariana’s crazy and rude behavior. Just before the VMAs, MTV launched a contest for Ariana’s fans, and the winners would get to meet her a few days before the VMAs, then the winners would get to attend the VMAs. A young girl was one of the winners, and her father wrote a lengthy blog post about exactly what went down at the meet & greet – you can read the post here. Ariana spent all of 15 seconds with the contest winners, she demanded that her fans delete their photos of her and she and her people were just completely unpleasant. To make matters worse, after the dad’s blog post went viral, Ariana’s people got in touch with the dad and asked him to take it down or “correct” it. He refused and wrote another post about how Ariana’s people treated his family – go here to read.

There are now some legit media outlets calling out Ariana for her behavior and questioning whether she’s really ready for the spotlight (the spotlight she sought out for so many years). While I think it’s good that she’s a “nice girl from Boca” and she’s not a cracked-out mess, I do think she’s getting bad advice and she needs some “handlers” who will be honest with her about her new image as an unhinged diva.

I go back and forth between spoiled brat and seriously needs help. I don’t know about this one.

    • 237 says:

      Spoiled brat.
help she will need when she realises her career is tanking because of her ass-head behaviour

      • Melly says:

She is a spoiled brat, but she is also becoming a heavy drug user – cocaine specifically. I have a friend who works close with her and says that it is starting to become a problem but her team is good at covering it up.

      • FLORC says:

        Melly
I have hear this too. The trip to rehab for exhaustion i near.

      • Melly says:

        FLORC
I think there is definitely going to be a exhaustion/dehydration visit to the hospital coming soon. From what I’m told, she isn’t exactly trying to hide her using, so eventually pics will be released – maybe that will “force” her into rehab to save her public image. She isn’t the type to willingly go to rehab because she doesn’t think it’s a problem. She thinks it helps her perform!

      • FLORC says:

Ugh. Great points. Her uses might help her shed her sugary sweet image that is barely clinging on at this point.
Doing something illegal might help her.
And she strikes me as the type to feel above everything. Why should she hide her bad habits when her security will simply attack/threaten anyone who has compromising photos of her.

She’s living in a fantasy world. Talented or not she can’t maintain that and keep treating everyone so poorly.

      • Chris says:

By that time she’ll be laughing all the way to the bank. She’ll probably end up with the Biebs in an unholy alliance that’ll rival Kimye.

    • FLORC says:

      Can’t it be both?

    • Mia V. says:

She’s a brat, she needs two minuts on the chair.

    • Talie says:

Honestly, she seems unhinged. Based on interviews… Part of the ME generation who grew up wealthy on top of it. I’m sure none of that is conducive to sane mind.

    • kimbers says:

I’ve watched her for years! She’s def got a fat head for a while now:( too bad.

  2. NewWester says:

Eventually a video of Ariana treating a fan badly or acting like a diva will surface. At this rate when she does fall off her pedestal it will be epic. I hope she is enjoying her fifteen minutes

    • Eleonor says:

I was thinking the same thing: when she will piss someone with a camera she will be confronted with the blacklash of her actions.

      • manda says:

I’d like to think this would happen, but look at all of the documented douchiness of Justin Beiber. I don’t think any of that has really harmed him

      • M.A.F. says:

        Beiber is also a male.

      • Liv says:

M.A.F. – this! There are thousands of little girl who don’t care what Bieber says or does – but there are not that many boys who will support Ariana no matter what. Time for her to wake up.

  3. Miss Beca says:

She’s managed by Scooter Braun. He seems uniquely able to churn out entitled little jerks.

    • Tracy says:

No kidding. Between Biebs and this little twit…

      • Charlie says:

But Bieber was a major star for quite some time before he became a full blown jerk. She’s been huge for 5 minutes and is already a nightmare.

      • Tracy says:

Oh I agree on that point. I didn’t even know her name 2 months ago. I hope her crappy behavior so early on translates into an early retirement.

    • Singtress says:

      Agreed.
I have a hunch that his advice is along the lines of: “Act like a Star and you WILL BE a STAR!!! Make demands! Don’t ask people for what you want — tell them!!”

And, since they are mentally little kids, they think this is what a Star is supposed to act like.

  4. original kay says:

I read both his blog posts and believe every word of it.

  5. Glowstar711 says:

Now every picture of her I notice is taken from her left ( good) side. Diva…

    • M.A.F. says:

Ever since it was pointed out, I try to see if the cameras will get her right side. Watch any of the TV performances and the camera tries to get the right side but she quickly moves. It could be a fun drinking game.

    • Profile says:

This is really funny. I have an acquaintance on Instagram who, when she uploads photos of herself, only ever posts left profile photos. It’s amazing how neurotic people can be.

  6. OriginallyBlue says:

This girl needs better handlers, if she had better ones this bratty behaviour would not be talked about so much. They are trying to make her happen and she is f*cking up big time.

  7. Talie says:

Scooter is her manager — common denominator

  8. lower-case deb says:

one of my takeaway from the dad’s post: how nice and kind Britney is. and it makes me even more sad about her and her situation now.

    • We Are All Made of Stars says:

And yet back in the day the press nicknamed her Bratney. You can’t win.

      • Ennie says:

Well, Brit at least has the “excuse” that she really has/had undiagnosed mental health issues issues. This girl, I do not think so, maybe she is on drugs , who knows?

      • FLORC says:

Yea. Britney’s mental illness related behavior was what caused that nickname.
Stories of her kindness towards fan even without a camera nearby has never changed. After the umbrella incident they latched onto Britney as a rage fueled tyrant. We all know the truth at this point, but then it was viewed in the worst light.

Maybe Ariana has an illness that makes her hair fall out if she’s too nice to people. We could all be calling her a diva now, but later we’ll understand her Samson like quality and she was simply trying to survive. How misunderstood.

  9. TQB says:

My new favorite thing is Celebitchy posts about this one and her toddler drama. Thus, I support her behavior and hope it just keeps getting better-i mean, worse.

    • FLORC says:

All we need now is a picture of her oversized bodyguard ordering her into a timeout.

Like Bieber this toddler drama gets old really quickly.

  10. dragonlady sakura says:

How in the world did she get her hands on my nana’s table clothes? Anyhoo, all these diva rumors just make me believe she’s a brat who better get a reality check soon. Fans are notoriously fickle.

    • Izzy says:

My grammie had a similar looking set of lace curtains. Ah, memories.

When will that spoiled trick just fade into oblivion? Ugh. She gives people from Boca a bad name.

  11. Nicolette says:

No, I don’t want her obnoxious behavior to stop. Keep it coming! This way she will implode and go away that much faster.

  12. AmandaPanda says:

I’ve got to say, that dad who blogged sounded a bit unhinged too. Dragging his daughter around the country, totally focused on winning celeb meet and greet competitions and stalking celebs based on their twitter? V overinvested in it all.

So A grande was an asshat. Am sure she was. Surely the appropriate response is to reassure your girls and move on? Not drag out a weird blog war going on and on and on about it?

I feel sad for the little girl who is being taught all sorts of weird life lessons.

    • Mollie says:

This! What a weird sounding dad! Why has this consumed him, and the part at the end where he lists the entire family’s twitter addresses for publicity? Creepy. I was completely turned off by his blogs, couldn’t even focus on Ariana’s behavior.

    • original kay says:

nah. lots of people do these contests, and blog. you stretch the provided information by suggesting he drags his kid around and it being “totally focused” on winning contests.
If he had sold his story to TMZ, I’d buy your theory that he is “unhinged”.
He posted a blog, which he stated only got a few hits. It went viral, which is not his problem. He clarified what happened after his blog went viral, but he states he waited a week to do so and he did in order to answer the many questions people had.
What is he teaching his kids? That his blog went viral, and he defended them? terrible. again, if he sold his story merely for attention, then perhaps he needs to step back. But he didn’t.
The only part I take question of is the posting of the family’s twitter names. If indeed they were receiving death threats, removing the names and going private would have been a safer choice.

      • AmandaPanda says:

Yeah but he sounds like they’re doing them CONTINUOUSLY. Presumably they don’t win every contest they enter. I just thought the way he went on and on and on and on and ON about it all was a bit ott. It’s not the end of the world that an entertainer was surly. Stop winding your kids up about it.

      • Lucinda says:

I knew someone who entered contests all the time. Like dozens a day. They weren’t celebrity meet and greet stuff but it was fun for her and she won more stuff than the average joe because of the sheer volume of entries she sent in. These people sound the same. They put effort into it and it has paid off. They have met a few people. The Twitter thing is weird but the rest didn’t bug me.

    • Mel M says:

By the end of the second blog post I was thinking about how strange it was that they seemed to always be winning these contests and how much these girls loved celebrities. Although I live and grew up in the Midwest, so maybe it’s a common thing for people that live near Hollywood and can easily travel there to enter these types of contests and run into all kinda of celebs on the street.

      • get it together says:

Mel M: i don’t think it’s necessarily a common thing for people who live near Hollywood…i grew up 30 minutes from Hollywood and have met (or sometimes even have just seen) MANY celebs on the streets of LA. neither i nor any of my friends in high school ever entered these contests. i’m sure many people in LA do, but i don’t think it’s just because they happen to live close by. they probably would no matter where they live. if anything, our proximity to hollywood makes it so that seeing celebrities isn’t that big a deal since it happens a lot. it’s a fun occurrence, and sometimes i fan-girled so hard in my head, but i would either just walk by quietly or politely say hello with a smile since i never wanted to bother them (being that it wasn’t an arranged contest or meet and greet, i knew they had no obligation to speak to me just because i was a fan.)

since we’re talking about nice or mean celebs here, i just want to say that once in high school i met gwen stefani who was shopping on melrose avenue with gavin, her husband. she was my ultimate girl crush in high school (it was the 90s and no doubt was HUGE!) though normally i would have just squealed in my head and left them alone, i couldn’t help myself! I LOVE HER!! so i went up to her and softly said, “ms. stefani, i don’t want to bother you or cause a scene but i just had to say hello because i’m a huge huge fan of you and your music.” she gave me the biggest smile, said i was too cute and sweet and motioned for gavin to come over. she introduced me to him too!! i shook both their hands (he was only cordial but NOT mean at all, just not as overly nice as she was) and she thanked me for being a fan. my 16 year old self then left the store on cloud 9! to this day i remember her kindness and still buy all her albums. she could have been a huge diva because no doubt was super popular then, but she was nothing but gracious and kind.

    • Anony says:

I think it is weird for a Dad to be so invested in this and to blog. I guess because my dad is the strong, silent type who worked on farms his whole life and doesn’t understand the whole FAN thing at all. I just can’t imagine having a Dad who blogs and talks about the latest celebrities. My Dad doesn’t know any of the celebs of nowadays.

  13. whatsmyname? says:

    EXPOSE HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER. Jk

Girl you have not even been around for 5 minutes, at least wait until you are past 15 minutes before you start pulling this crap even then that is not cool. If you feel like bossing people around and being a bitch do that to people around you that are atleast getting paid, not the people paying YOU.

I definitly think some of the stories are BS and the media is just piling on the stories.

  14. Pearson says:

I read the article too. I believe she was rude. I have mentioned I feel sorry for how self conscious she appears to feel but nothing excuses rude behavior. What I don’t understand is why she is trying so desperatley to become the next big thing and at the same time becoming annoyed at having to deal with fans. Fame comes with fans. Duh.
Oh…and after listening to some of her music I wish I could un hear it. She should be glad she has fans.

  15. JM says:

    “A nice girl from Boca.”

This explains a lot! I grew up in Boca, only in West Boca with the poor kids. I went to Spanish River High where the student parking lot looked more like a luxury car dealership and the homes in Woodfield Hunt Club nearby were built close together so they could pass the Grey Poupon between their kitchen windows. (If you grew up in the 80’s, you’ll understand the reference.) I moved away 15 years ago but my mom stayed behind. Every time I visit, I’m reminded of why I left. Too much money and too many overinflated egos.

    • cyndi says:

Pardon me…Do you have any “Grey Poupon”? 😄

    • mango says:

Hah, I thought the same thing when I read “nice girl from Boca!” I’m from north Florida and went to a huge college with kids from all over the state– Boca girls were notorious for being the brattiest, most spoiled, Daddy’s little rich girls in the whole state.

    • Tim says:

It’s a little bit ridiculous to blame her for having rich parents (which she indeed has), poor people are in average not nicer than rich people.

  16. Steph says:

I think Ariana is intentionally doing the extreme DIVA act to attract attention and get her name out there. No one could be that oblivious when there is lots of money on the line.

    • Ash says:

Supposedly, there’s no such thing as bad publicity in the entertainment world.

Look at Mariah Carey, she’s known for being a diva and Beyoncé. Last I heard anyways, but I haven’t kept up with either. Remember the Beyoncé freakout about those unflattering Super Bowl pictures?

      • Steph says:

You are right. It seems like ultra DIVA behavior pays well in the entertainment industry. It is as though fans equate DIVA with super talented, and if you are super talented you can do anything good or bad. So if the star brands herself as a DIVA then her fan base will continuously make excuses for her bad behavior. The entertainment industry is ALL about branding and social media. It no longer requires gifted talented artists.

      • Bridget says:

Except if she’s this obnoxious no one’s going to want to work with her. She has a nice voicebut it’s not out of this world, and there’s AWLAYS someone just waiting to come up.

      • Mary says:

It could be, publicity is publicity. Next to that there is no risk that her fans will blame her for such media reports because they are already for a long time fed up with the negative way the showbizz media report on ariana.

Next to that her diva-behaviour is nothing seroiusly. She wants to look at her best on pictures and that’s what every celed wants. An actrice with nice long legs also will do everything to get them on each and every picture.

    • Lucinda says:

If she is anything like her brother, I don’t think it’s an act.

  17. Jh says:

My three year old wears the same kitty headband.

    • evasmom says:

No kidding. Girl needs a new stylist stat. Who on earth is giving her fashion advice! I think she looks completely ridiculous and have yet to see her in a decent outfit.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yeah, I was thinking that would be adorable on a little girl. By little, I meant 5 or under.

  18. Rice says:

    1. Nobody over the age of 9 should wear cat ears, unless it’s with a Halloween costume.

    2. WOW! The floodgates have really opened on DivAriana Grande and her behaviour.

  19. Emily says:

Muahahaha. I love snarking on this girl a bit too much. Something about her just makes me want to unleash my inner bitch…

  20. LaurieH says:

In a perfect world, a bratty, entitled, rude celebrity would fall out of favor with the public and lose their fame and fortune to their bad behavior. We don’t live in that world. If we did, we would be seeing more “Where Are They Now?” stories about Justin Bieber. Ridiculous diva entitlement behavior has become socially acceptable – not just from celebrities, but from everyday people too. Sure, there are those who may be off-put by Ariana Grande’s antics, but we’re likely not buying her albums anyway. These days, “fans” have become ridiculously defensive about their idols’ behavior; not just by rationalizing, justifying and excusing it, but by issuing social media death threats to those who criticize their idols. There is a fine ine between being a fan of someone’s work and full-on idol worship and too many have crossed the line. The flip side of that is the corporate machine that makes millions off of these people. As long as the money keeps rolling in, they will slavishly and syncophantically cater to their whims and diva behavior, thus perpetuating the problem.

    • Ash says:

Perfectly put. I’m in my mid-twenties, and I fear for our future generations when it comes to so many things.

  21. melain says:

Sounds like she’s a diva, but I went to the blog to check out this guy’s experience. The name of the blog, PRIMAL SCREAM all caps, leaves me with the impression that the dad might be kinda intense and maybe a little angry even before he met Grande. And his expectations seem way out of proportion. So he discovered that Ariana is a brat, move on. Why continue to hang on to crazy expectations? Hoping she will call you to apologize? Seriously? That seems whack.

  22. LAK says:

Her team is very stupid for not handling that situation when the blog went up.

    • Insomniac says:

Seriously. It seems like a simple phone call or letter to the guy’s daughters could have ended this, but Team Grande can’t even be bothered to do that much. Pathetic.

  23. emma says:

    She’ll fade away soon

  24. K-Rock says:

I’m really curious what her behavior was on the set of Victorious and Sam and Kat, I’m even more curious what her ex co-stars are thinking of all of this. Are they surprised, or did they see it coming? I’d give anything for a comment or interview with one of them. Is that evil of me? I feel so ashamed.

  25. Victoria says:

Is it because she has one dimple on her left side, and not so much on her right? Could this be the secret to her left sided only poses?

  26. M.A.F. says:

I have a hard time believing this little girl is in her 20s. She looks and acts like a child barely in their teens. And if her brother’s antics on Big Brother are anything to go by (at least from what I hear) then she might be a little f-ed up in the head.

  27. kity says:

I just read an interview with Dolly Parton on CB. It just reinforces my love for Dolly even more. She is old school where she understand and knows that without her fans, since they are her bread and butter. She really appreciate her fans. I’ve read somewhere that she’s kept all the gifts she receives from her fans. In exchange, she’s gracious and always makes sure that she looks “presentable” to her fans. Oh, yeah, f8cking talented and smart businesswoman as well. And that’s why she has the respect of her fans as well. Without talent, she won’t last long or places (stores, stadiums, elevator music) will be playing her music 5 years from now.

  28. Bridget says:

This girl is not nearly talented enough for this behavior. Her voice is nice, but it’s not any better than a talented American Idol contestant, and her songs sound like she was given whatever was leftover in the publishing company.

  29. Ginger says:

I only know this chick from when she was on that Nickelodeon show with Victoria Justice. I don’t get why she’s a thing now.

  30. Suzz54 says:

The “Bang Bang” song came on the radio and my 13 yo son the turned radio off. Exhaled deeply and said, “I’m so disappointed in her, she used to be so cute.” He said so much in that statement, don’t you think?

  31. Chell says:

Can’t wait to see this brat get knocked off of her pedestal!

  32. jwoolman says:

In the contest winners case, she may have been triggered by pics one of them gave her of her with her recently deceased grandfather. I think she’s having a lot of trouble dealing with his death, I don’t know details. Anyway, she cut it off at just that point. I’m suspecting she’s having other problems also dealing with all the fans etc. The blog in question said that a couple of years ago, she met the same kid under relaxed circumstances and was very nice despite the fact that the kid and her dad were stalking her. Really, he drove his daughter a distance to go to the same place they knew Ariana would be visiting (not a professional engagement, but to see some exhibition? Can’t remember) and the kid waited for an opportunity to go up to her. Creepy but true. Anyway, imagine dealing with many times more fans who think they have a right to follow you around and are monitoring your every move. When it was just one kid, she could handle it. She can’t deal now and her manager needs to keep her away from situations where she is supposed to happily interact with the obsessed.

    • Selina says:

That’s her BS excuse. She was rude before she saw any photos of anything. Admittedly you don’t know the details so just FYI.

    • Ennie says:

That’s what fans do, and they are the bread and butter or artists everywhere. The girls seem to be very into pop culture, and we would not know about AG shenaningans if the father did not have a blog.

  33. Kate says:

Honestly if even half the stuff people say about Dan Schneider is true, I just feel sorry for her. I remember watching Victorious a few times and I was so creeped out by the way this girl was filmed, it was like watching a video some pervert shot through a window. It had such a weird sexual vibe even when nothing remotely sexual was happening on screen. And I felt like that long before I even knew who Dan Schneider was

  34. whocares says:

You know what? This snotty little twat needs to grow the hell up! I’m so sick and tired of hearing and reading about all of these spoiled, snotty, ungrateful celebrities throwing tantrums about their lack of privacy and treating the very people who made the famous, like shit! Spoiled twats like this one & Justin Bieber and all the other celebs who forgot where they came from and who made them who they are deserve to lose everything!

  35. stacat1 says:

She may have a nice voice–but that will not sustain her. Wishing your fans “would f**king die” is straight shot back to Boca for this one.

Just a matter of time…can’t wait to see the tweets of her upcoming meet & greets on tour- the $495 ones where you get 2 seconds with her and a picture of you, her and 6 strangers…

    good luck republic records!

  36. Ziglavsky says:

While I think it’s good that she’s a “nice girl from Boca” and she’s not a cracked-out mess,

You and I have different definitions of good. Rude, entitled and denigrating treatment of others is not okay so long as there is no bum shaking, or illicit drug taking. Being chaste and a teetotaller doesn’t give people a pass on horrible behaviours. IMO.

  37. tegteg says:

So, someone on Buzzfeed may have cracked Ariana’s obsession with the left side of her face. If you look, you’ll notice that she has only one dimple… and it’s on the left side of her face. Coincidence?

  38. mia says:

it’s ariana’s stupid fans fault, why not just boycott her? give me a break
