Salma Hayek: ‘I have no Botox, no peels, no fillings. I’m 48.’

wenn22482777

Here are some photos from today’s photocall for Tale of Tales, the new film by Matteo Garrone. The film is like… weird fairy tales? And Salma Hayek eats a sea monster’s heart? Sure. Why not? You can read more about the film here. I just wanted to cover these photos because OMG Vincent Cassel. That man… his face is perfect. Did you know he’s 48 years old? Salma is the same age. God, they are lovely. Salma is wearing the Alexander McQueen AW15 silk rose jacquard dress.

Meanwhile, I sort of missed this Salma interview with Elle Magazine. She wasn’t promoting this movie, she was promoting her skincare and beauty line, Nuance. When she spoke to Elle (the interview was released last week), Salma claimed that she doesn’t do Botox (sure), nor does she get chemical peels or fillers. Do you believe her? This is what she said:

“I use an ingredient called Tepezcohuite that’s used in Mexico for burn victims because it completely regenerates the skin, and there’s no one in the States who is using this ingredient except for us. Some of the ingredients, when I took them to the American labs, they were like ‘Oh my god! How come nobody is using this?’ This is why I have no Botox, no peels, no fillings. I’m 48. I will be 49 this year and I only use my creams.”

[From Elle]

I feel like slathering yourself in burn cream is probably not something you should brag about? But everyone has their little beauty secrets. Some people use hemorrhoid cream on their eye bags, some people use burn cream to regenerate their face. When I look at Salma… sure, I’ll believe that she’s not Botoxed or “filled”. But I bet she tries all of the non-invasive skin treatments like chemical peels and such.

In the rest of the Elle Mag piece – which you can read here – she talks about her daily routines and other beauty secrets. She drinks coffee, she’ll occasionally eat egg yolk, she eats a lot of quinoa, and she (gasp!) will sometimes fly business-class or even coach. So relatable, right? Most relatable billionaire’s wife EVER! She also think Bradley Cooper is “the catch of the year.” Side-eye.

Big deal, I didn’t need anything like that when I was 48, either.

    • Kiddo says:

This made me burst out laughing.

    • Judyk says:

Was just going to say the same!

    • Crumpet says:

Me neither! But something happened somewhere between 48 and 50. Damn.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yeah, I’m 58 now and looking at the peels and stuff all of a sudden. Lol

      • nia says:

yeah, I feel you. It is like right after I turned 50 things started dropping and drooping!

      • Sabrine says:

Because she is sharing her skin care regimen does not mean she needs to be ridiculed and disbelieved. Perhaps, like me, she doesn’t spend a lot of time in the sun. I’ve never been into suntanning, use at least a 50 spf sunscreen on my face, neck, hands and arms. I wear a wide brimmed hat if I’m going to be outside for more than 15 minutes (thankfully, I love hats!). The result is that my skin looks at least 10 years younger, if not more, than my actual age.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

        @Sabrine
Please reread my comment. Why would I disbelieve or ridicule her if I experienced the same thing at her age? She’s acting like she’s 68, not 48. Nice way to compliment yourself though.

      • BooBooLaRue says:

        Word

      • elle says:

Crumpet, you have just struck fear in my cold, black heart.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Same here. Thanks for the hearty chuckle.

    • Justme says:

Yeah wait until the hormones take a sudden plunge. When I was 48 I had almost no wrinkles. I’m not terrible now 10 years later, but they are there now – and oh the neck!

      • Dizzy says:

Totally agree. I’m 49 and I looked young until menopause kicked in. Doctors don’t recommend hormones any more. It all falls apart pretty fast. Also from what I understand Selma is a Latina but of Lebanese heritage. Some people on this site attribute her good looks to her being a Latina. Maybe it’s the Lebanese blood.
Cassel looks good but much older.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I take hormones. Best stuff ever. Talked e tension Ely with my doctor about it– they don’t push it like they used to, you don’t “need” it, but there are plenty of benefits.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

        The neck, argh.

    • Booopybettes says:

Ha, to be fair to her tho…she’s only speaking present tense and saying that now that she has ‘her creams,’ she doesn’t do those things – doesn’t have to do them. It’s not a unilateral ‘I have never had any cosmetic procedures ever ever,’ statement. She’s had a nose job early on in her career so I doubt she’d shy away from a peel for fs sake. Lol That said…she’s pretty flawless anyway and married to a billionaire so if she had something done in the past a laser here or there (her face does not look filled to me) it would be by the best.

    • Sam says:

Well I bet you didn’t look as good as her at 48. Are you always like this? She looks gorgeous and I can only hope I look as good as her when I’m 48.

  2. TracySmiles says:

    And… not that likeable either.

    • Brin says:

      Yeah, no humility.

    • Ladybird83 says:

Ha! I’m sure she’d also say she never had a nose job or her boobs done either.

      • qwerty says:

She said she prayed for boobs and god listened to her prayers…….

      • SnarkySnarkers says:

Haha! Shes so up her own ass. Geeze! I swear some of these celebs feel its their full time job to make regular woman feel bad about themselves. You aren’t fooling anyone with that nose job either miss 100% natural.

      • Booopybettes says:

        Hed

      • Booopybettes says:

She did a movie, a romance with Russell crowe back in the 90s…she had undeniably real boobs then.

      • Annie says:

She definitely had a very good boob job, and that prayer for boobs was a joke. Do people really think she said earnestly?

  3. Naddie says:

Now, that’s bragging, and not humble at all.

    • Ennie says:

She owns and represents her brand of face creams. She has to shill.

      • perplexed says:

That’s what I’m thinking too. Who knows if she’s telling the truth about her face, but it wouldn’t be business-savvy to tell us she’s using botox if she’s trying to sell a skin care line.

      • Naddie says:

She does have a face cream brand? Didn’t know that. Now, her words make a bit of sense. Still smug, though.

  4. Debbie says:

i just had a massive face lift

  5. LAK says:

I saw the trailer for this film and I can’t wait. I love wierd fairy tales.

  6. NerdMomma says:

Truthfully, some women just naturally have a ton of collagen. I have a coworker who is Salma’s age and her skin looks just like Salma’s. She doesn’t do anything special. She jokes that she has a “thick skin” which is true both literally and figuratively. I’ll believe this about Salma, because her face moves.

    • perplexed says:

Salma hasn’t over-dieted either. She’s got a good figure without trying to go to the extremes that Hollywood prefers. Maybe that’s helped her face too.

      • Jib says:

That is what I was thinking. While not overweight at all, Salma has a bit of “meat” on her bones. Especially when compared to Angelina J or Goop or Alma, all of whom are skin and bones. This makes her face look better.

What do they say? Butt or face. She chose face, obviously.

    • Kitten says:

Exactly. She won the genetic lottery. So basically she’s telling the rest of us schlubs that we’ll never look like her no matter how many of her special creams and potions we use.

That being said, I have to admit that I really like her Nuance line. For crap you can pick up at your local drugstore, it’s pretty decent quality.

      • Nev says:

        Love her. Happening.

      • TWINK says:

re:Nuance. Agreed, I love the blackcurrant hair mask, I get highlights and that’s what keeps my hair smooth. I also love the body cream but can’t find it anymore in stores or online!

    • Miss Jupitero says:

I don’t know if this is just an old wives tale, but I am of middle eastern and southern European descent, and have heard it said that olive skin ages really really well. Some people have tons of collegan, others elastin. It’s not just your skin, but all of your tissues. Pregancy and hormones can change all of this of course.

      • NerdMomma says:

My coworker is Greek and has olive skin. I’ve wondered about that too!

      • wonderwoman21 says:

Yes, darker skin ages better. This is because the number one cause of skin damage (spots, wrinkles, collagen breakdown) is the sun and dark skin is designed to protect itself from the sun.

      • Mary-Alice says:

I’m of Southern European descent and we are different too. One thing is Sicilian type, another – Yugoslavian. In general, darker – ages better. It also doesn’t require tanning which many people do and go to extremes when their skin is whiter. Mediterranean skin is a bit thicker, too, it definitely helps as there is more tissue to lose which brings visual aging later.

  7. celine says:

Uhm, Vincent Cassel’s face perfect? Maybe if he was auditioning for Nick Nolte’s role in a remake of Down and Out in Beverly Hills.
    Salma is just gorgeous.

    • bella says:

      i know!
his face is a bit scary to me…

    • Kitten says:

He’s ok. Not really my cup of tea but when I see him in films, I can see why some women go crazy over him. He’s pretty charismatic on-screen. I agree that these pictures are really bad though.

    • Renee says:

Your comment made me lol. With a laugh that sounded whiskey-soaked.

    • Addison says:

I have always found his face to be creepy. Salma looks great though.

    • bluhare says:

He’s not perfect. That’s part of his charm. Well, that, and the fact that he looks like a dirty, dirty boy. 🙂

  8. InvaderTak says:

    Uh huh.

  9. AG-UK says:

Pretty but not very nice from what I hear. She has an olive complexion that helps and genetics..

  10. PunkyMomma says:

    Love her dress. That’s all.

  11. EN says:

If she doesn’t have anything then she has some super genes. Her business.
Though , usually for people over 40 there are at least small lines around eyes. I can’t see from this picture if she has them or not.

  12. Shahrizai says:

*sigh* I love her style and her looks. I don’t agree with what she says, but she is a beautiful woman and I respect her right and desire to shill for her skincare line.

    Also… I love that dress.

    • doofus says:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that dress, too.

      so pretty.

    • hippo says:

      The dress is beautiful.

Every time I look at her, though, that ridiculous interview where she says she kept tigers but one got stuck in an aircon vent and died, and another tiger ‘developed a temper’ and was killed, and cannot take her seriously.

  13. Grace says:

She’s so annoying. My grandma is from Latin America and told me to use all these crazy things on face when I was young. If I didn’t have doctors and chemists in my family, I would also think using a stupid seed would make my eyelashes grow.

  14. Katherine says:

She’s always had the best genes straight up.

  15. Blue says:

She’s Latina and has olive skin genetics has a lot to do with her looking so great at 48. Staying out of the sun, not smoking and genetics has more to do with it than any cream ever invented.

  16. rosalee says:

without chemical enhancements my sisters can easily pass for ten years younger then their actual age – drives me nuts, my brother who is 3 years older than me has smile lines but his face is amazing smooth and three years ago I looked great, somewhere between 53 and 55 – the road map appeared, meanwhile my siblings still look terrific –

  17. Dar says:

She is a mediocre actress who married an extremely wealthy man… Now she doesn’t have to hustle and worry about getting work and staying famous and she looks so much more relaxed. Smart move on her part. I knew someone who knew her before she moved to the U.S. and she always said no one noticed her until she got her boobs done.

    • Ennie says:

She’s not only that, she actually became an efficient producer. She did not just sat on her butt. She created a small company, not just give her name to some brand. I admire her hustle.

  18. Ms. Lib says:

You are totally right about the non-invasive skin treatments like chemical peels and such. They can stave off a lot of the small wrinkles that begin to creep up in the late 40s. And really all you need if you have taken care of your skin since you were young with 50+ SPF.

    • Jib says:

I’m 53, and we had no such thing as 50 spf when I was a teen – we had Hawaiian Tropic Professional Tanning Oil or Coppertone tanning oil. Yes, my sister, who burned, got the lotion, but it didn’t have sunblock in it. That didn’t come out until I was at least 25 or so.

      • MET says:

Or straight up Baby Oil — ah the memories of laying out at the peak sun time lathered in baby oil with lemon in your hair.

  19. Regina Phalange says:

She’s nuts. If I was a billionaire I WOULD NEVER FLY COACH. That is not something to be proud of, girl.

    • Mumzy says:

Perhaps they have a private jet that they scarcastically named “Coach” — you know, just so they can joke about “flying coach!”

      • RJ says:

HAHA! As someone doomed to fly in steerage–i.e. coach for–eternity (I love to travel) this cracked me up. I’d marry a wrinkled grumpy billionaire just for luxury travel accommodations!

  20. Don't kill me I'm French says:

She’s a liar! She goes to the same French dermatologist than Sharon Stone ( according to a French paparazzi,he sues every French gossip magazine who releases the name of his clients)

    • judyjudyjudy says:

so what does going to a dermatologist have to do with her being a liar? Have you seen her receipts or something. LOL.

  21. Justme says:

Vincent Cassel is not conventionally handsome, but he is remarkable onscreen. Part of it is his grace – he really has a dancer’s body. He also has beautiful blue eyes and a great smile, like his wonderfully charming father Jean Pierre Cassel (one of my favorites).

    • Sofia says:

The intensity, ai ai ai… All his characters are intense.

    • EN says:

I loved him in Black Swan, it made me look him up. And I found he was married to Monica Belucci, so I wasn’t wrong about his appeal ))
But I didn’t like him in Belle at all. He was badly miscast. They made him play this boorish character, and he is not that, he appears more refined.

  22. Cindy says:

So she’s reminding us she is genetically gifted and naturally more beautiful than us. Thanks Selma.

    That dress is gorgeous.

  23. Jag says:

She’s so botoxed she can’t even smile properly! I don’t believe her for a second. lol That said, I have wanted to try her line of skincare but it’s always sold out.

I have to disagree about Vincent. He looks quite old to me. He does have cute “smiling eyes,” but I would absolutely peg him close to 60 had you not said his age.

    • DEB says:

She also tried to say her breasts were real – NOT. By the way she is smiling (or having trouble smiling fully), looks like Botox to me. I think they’re all a bunch of fibbers.

  24. Dani says:

Vincent Cassel could be 100 and I would still love him.

  25. Suzy from Ontario says:

Plus there’s something to be said for living a life where, unless most people, she doesn’t have to worry about money AT ALL, and has the best of everything. When my husband and I go on vacation we come back looking younger (according to our grown kids). Having no stress and being waited on by others, being in luxury surroundings, massages, wonderful food cooked by someone else and having nothing to do all day but whatever you want can do that. For us that’s once in a blue moon when we can afford it. For her, it’s every single day.

I wonder if she’ll suddenly launch her own skin cream line within the next year or so?

  26. A says:

If she stopped smoking she would look even better

  27. Debutante says:

And she had her boobs enlarged years ago.

Even though they were big, she had them made bigger, but she denies having anything done to them as well.

So I don’t believe a thing she says. However, her Nuance deep conditioner for hair is excellent.

  28. boredblond says:

When I saw ‘no fillings’, I thought she was talking about her teeth…magic potion? Stay out of the sun and have good genes (somebody bottle that). I am loving the dress…

  29. The Original G says:

    Listen, she’s filled.

I have great skin, practically no wrinkles and yet, you start to lose that volume in your cheeks and you start to look sad and saggy. She’s filled. She’s just filled judiciously and often, so it’s subtle. Why say anything if you have to lie? She looks great.

    • Snowflake says:

Yep, and she’s botoxed too. It’s well done, so looks natural, unlike kk and Brandi glanville

  30. Peggy says:

What about breast implants, ooh that is not in the face, so she is safe.

  31. Question now says:

I don’t quite buy it but anyway, Hayek looks great. I wish I could afford to look like her when I hit her age.

  32. Gimmeabreak says:

Okay everyone. She looks great. She I blessed in lots of ways. But if you guys really believe that she does not have fillers-oh good God… Of course she has and does. It is a shilling thing. Sort of like Beyoncé and her vegan diet/brand. These stars are SO up their own asses.

  33. mia25 says:

This is almost the exact same thing Catherine Zeta Jones used to say when she was shilling for Elizabeth Arden. She spoke about how great her skin was from using their products, no wrinkles, etc. etc. and I nearly ran out and bought their face serum. Then one of the UK dailies posted some un-edited photos of her and I was completely shocked.

    • maddie says:

Ditto Naomi Watts and her recent ad campaign for L’Oreal. Miracles indeed.

  34. mkyarwood says:

Tepezcohuite is THE BOMB. I use it for everything. It’s not burn cream, it’s just everything cream. Eczema, psoriasis, zits. Mayan Magic. They make a scalp treatment as well that cleared up my decades long battle with sebhorric dermatitis. I will gladly keep preaching from this soapbox. Use it! p.s. the giant size lasts forever, so consider it a year’s supply.

    http://lavigneorganics.com/product/mayan-magic-healing-balm-large/

  35. lucy2 says:

I think she looks pretty great here (and I love the dress) but I’d be curious to see her without all the makeup.

    • Naddie says:

She looks good without makeup (by the pics I’ve seen) but nothing close to what these pictures are showing.

    • luluz says:

Salma has a verified instagram account, it goes back a couple of months. She has quite a few pictures and videos without makeup on and she looks her age to me. She has a closeup video of her eating a cricket and you can see her her skin and fine lines clearly. It is @salmahayek

  36. Agave says:

Wait, wasn’t 48 years old two years ago in this article? http://www.examiner.com/article/salma-hayek-46-not-depressed-by-aging-i-m-having-the-best-time

I checked her Wikipedia as well; she was born in 1965.

And she’s still 48 now. Wow, I should but whatever she’s selling.

  37. MadMenluv says:

    well aren’t you special!

    she’s annoying

  38. Mirage says:

I didn’t enjoy reading the snarky comments on this post.
What can other women not acknowledge the natural beauty of another woman?

Yes maybe most of the over 45s on this thread didn’t need to do any peeling or botox when they reached the same age, but how many though, looked over 15 years younger than their actual age, like Salma Hayek does?
I’ve seen Salma Hayek recently at a conference in London, for the screening of the Prophet, that she has incepted and produced..
She looks just as beautiful and young in real life. She’s also a genuine humanitarian and artist.

Also, yes it’s easy to think that since she married a wealthy man, she should just not give any advice to anyone. But she does come from a wealthy family herself.

  39. maggie says:

Love her dress but the shoes are tragic. I’ve never found her to be that attractive for some reason. Cute but nothing more. She looks 48 to me.

  40. Boston Green Eyes says:

I’m a person who looks much younger than my years – I’m 52 and have no wrinkles and unlike celebs, I cannot afford ANY work even if I wanted to. So when people ask how to look young I tell them the truth: don’t get married and don’t have children – lol! – it really works!

    • RedMarine says:

I too have followed that regime, it really does work! As well as the ‘choose your face or your butt’ method – well I chose food. So it means I have a fat arse but a plump, smooth, line-free face.

  41. TOPgirl says:

She forgot the mention she had a nose job or else she’d really need botox….that nose is holding up her face.

  42. Jellybean says:

    Hahaha…

    Love the entertainment factor…!

  43. Jellybean says:

And Botox wears off in 4 months… Fillers in8…. So she couldn’t afford a touch up yet… We all understand….

  44. judyjudyjudy says:

There are all sorts of non-invasive lasers and therapies one can get without having to use botox and fillers and she may use those. They do not change the quality of the skin though – none of things mentioned do that…nor does a facelift. She has taken care of her gift and continues to do so through what she puts in her body and on her skin..No secret.

  45. Betsy says:

Not going to lie, her line does have a few products that I really love.

And though Vincent Cassel is getting a little too old for me (and 98% of his movies are way too violent for me), he is beautiful.

    • judyjudyjudy says:

I have never tried her line but seriously, based on that glow she has I just might check it out.
I agree on Cassel’s movies, but he is yummy at any age. I don’t go for French guys though…they are mostly alley cats.

      • Betsy says:

I can’t find the official name of the fruit peel of hers I love so much (and I’m not going upstairs right now); the prickly pear body wash has a great smell, and her nail polish might be made by the same lab as Cult Nails was (same bottle, same ingredients in the same order). Avoid at all costs the black currant hair product. Ghastly, ghastly smell that lingers through showers.

I’ve only seen him in Ocean’s Twelve.

      • judyjudyjudy says:

Thanks for the tips, Betsy. I love pear scent.
