Olivia Munn lost weight eating 80% fruits and vegetables and 20% other food

Olivia Munn covers Women’s Health in a tank top and her undies. Maybe it’s Photoshopping, but you can really see how much her face has changed lately, which she claims is due to makeup and the purple potatoes she eats. E! is running this story with the title that claiming Munn lost weight by following the same diet as Gisele Bundchen. That made me assume that Munn’s diet was as extreme as I’ve heard about Gisele’s, but Munn doesn’t talk about eliminating dairy, flour, sugar, etc. so it sounds more reasonable. She says she lost 12 pounds on an 80/20 diet. Here’s more of what she said:

“When I started on X-Men, I had been training and doing regular personal training and trying to eat in a healthy way,” Munn says. Losing weight was not the goal, but rather a byproduct of her desire to become healthier all around. “My intention was to just get as fit and as healthy as I could be, for myself…I started working out every single day, and then I also started getting into eating 20-80, where 80 percent of your diet is fruits and vegetables and 20 percent is whatever. So, that can be any kind of meats or breads or anything else, but mostly fruits and vegetables.”

Sound familiar? Those are the same dietary guidelines Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady follow. The 35-year-old supermodel and 38-year-old New England Patriots quarterback employ private chef Allen Campbell, who cooks organic, plant-based meals for their family. While Munn hasn’t gone to those lengths, she says, “The thing that I’ve kept up since X-Men is eating organically. That’s been a big part of, I think, feeling healthy, feeling fit, feeling clear. Knowing that you’re putting only clean foods into your body, that’s been a really important thing for me.” Munn’s personal trainer in Montreal also taught her how to make her own almond milk. “It’ll last me two or three days,” the actress explains. “I use that to make organic smoothies every morning.”

As if Munn needed any more motivation to be in the best shape of her life: Her X-Men: Apocalypse costume leaves little to the imagination. “Even though she’s always drawn in a sexual way, she always has substantive plotlines,” she says of Psylocke, a telekinetic mutant. “What she looked like became secondary because she was lethal. She is such a badass. And smart.” It’s the kind of role Munn had been gunning for, considering her other options. “They wanted me to play the girlfriend or the bad girl who takes another girl’s boyfriend away. But I didn’t want to do roles that only revolved around a man or were always in service of a man.”

[From E! Online]

Isn’t the 80/20 rule 80% whole, nutritious food and 20% other “cheat” food and not 80% fruit and vegetables? I like a big salad, but I don’t know if I could stomach 80% fruit and vegetables. How does that work exactly? I guess you would just be so full from all those veggies you wouldn’t have room for much more, but I also mean logistically, how would you measure it?

I have a feeling that X Men: Apocalypse is going to disappoint at the box office. It only has 50% on Rotten Tomatoes and I know there are people who will say that critics don’t matter but they do. People look up the ratings before they see a film and ticket sales depend on word of mouth. I doubt Psychlocke’s badassery is going to make much of a difference.

Her body is rock’n but I loved her more angular jaw and I’m stunned she changed it?

    • GreenieWeenie says:

yeah, I was just thinking LOOK at her face! Totally different! She definitely had that jaw Botox Bethenny Frankel had. I’m so curious because your jaw gets like this partly by teeth grinding at night–which overdevelops those jaw muscles–so your dentist will probably make you a bite guard (mine did). But what happens once the Botox wears off? Will Olivia Munn’s face go back to the way it was? Because you can’t just stop teeth grinding. Do those muscles puff up again? So many questions.

      • Jade says:

Yeah I’d definitely try that Botox jaw if I had extra cash. It’s the rage in Asia. One of my local celebs did it because she says an angular jaw just looks better onscreen. And a round or square face can make you look fat even though the rest of you is slim. Apparently, in the first year you have to get a few jabs but after that you may get it once a year as maintenance.

      • SilkyMalice says:

I am currently undergoing that exact same treatment – mega doses of Botox in an effort to alleviate my TMJ. I am really curious to see how it will change my face – I have always had a very strong jawline.

Interestingly enough, my doctor also injects my ‘frown’ muscles, because he says it allows him to gauge how well the Botox is working. I’m not complaining, but I walked out of his office looking like a Klingon yesterday, with all the post injection swelling. Ha!

      • GreenieWeenie says:

I wonder how you can tell if it’ll change your face shape? I have a strong jaw too. When I feel the corners, I feel mostly just skin/bones and idk know where these muscles are. Makes me think there wouldn’t be that much difference. But if you saw earlier photos of Olivia in like 2006/9 or something, her jaw looked so exaggerated in the corners like she must’ve had some serious muscle layered over it.

No idea if anything I just wrote is coherent to anyone but me.

      • LeAnn Stinks says:

There are also rumors floating around that she had her eyes done to make her look less ethnic.

      • GreenieWeenie says:

@LeeAnn Stinks, who knows, maybe it was just Botox, which apparently works miracles. Her eyes look more normal in the last set of pics from May, but a bit wonky in the WH photo

      • Tiffany :) says:

There is also a surgery you can have if it is the jaw bone, and not the muscle, that is protruding. They shave down your jaw.

      • Luxe says:

I haven’t been diagnosed yet but I’m pretty sure I have TMJ, and I have a strong jaw too. I used to hate it but now I really like it (I finally realized that it really suits me). I never really noticed Olivia’s jawline before but now she looks like a different person, and in a bad way. She’s still gorgeous IMO but she had something special before all this work she had done.

I just loved her on The Newsroom.

    • Kitten says:

She was very pretty before and I have NO idea why someone would pay money to look LESS good.

Her face had a lovely shape to it. Now? Not so much.

      • Jade says:

You’d be surprised, in Asia, especially China, Taiwan and Korea, her new face shape would be more desirable. Oh well. But not saying you guys are wrong…

      • Liv says:

Agreed, she looked so beautiful and now so generic. What a waste of money. And it’s an insult to say it’s makeup. Yes, of course she did the same “diet” as Gisele – they probably share the same beauty surgeon.

      • GreenieWeenie says:

yeah, she does look totally generic. I’m just obsessed because I have a long, thin, bony face and blargh, I could stand to sand off some hard edges.

      • delorb says:

$$$$$ Just as bigger breast mean more jobs, so does looking like an ideal. She’ll probably book more than she would have with her old face. IMO, of course.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

So much this about her face. She now looks just plain ridiculous post-excessive jaw shaving in the same way Dim Kardtrashian looks ridiculous with her overly-bobbed nose and gummy worm lips.

She was stunning. Now she is rather unattractive in many angles (some are better than others) , in my opinion.

    • Sabrine says:

She looks wonderful with the work she’s had done. Good for her. Of course people are going to criticize any type of work she’s had done but that’s what usually happens. She looks happy and that’s what counts, not a bunch of naysayers.

    • sienna says:

I am seriously contemplating injecting my jaw. I have done botox on the rest of my face since my late twenties (I’m about to turn 40) and a doc recommended I try it to thin out my face. I have never minded my strong jaw, but lately I have been considering the procedure to see if it alleviates my horrible TMJ.

    • JenYfromTheBlok says:

Let me understand…she purposely changed her jawline so her face would look long and horsey? Is this a “thing”?

      • Jade says:

Haha yes it is a thing, especially for mainstream Asian celebs as the camera adds pounds to round and sometimes angular faces. You can google Asia plastic surgery, the after face shape will look the same for almost all of the patients. Some overdo and they look like aliens. Face lifting is huge here and the desired result is a V Shape, not an overly long face. Just do a quick google of V shape products. As I’ve said, my local celeb outright said she did it to look better onscreen and take better photographs (and presumably get more jobs). She is a slim and lanky lady with a round face. As for horsey, well…I guess beauty is subjective. *shrugs.

      • Amy says:

Literally took the words out of my (naturally horsey) mouth. I don’t get it!!! Why do we all have to look the same. She was (and is) gorgeous! Our bodies don’t deserve this grotesque mistreatment. 🙁

      • LOL says:

Horsey? Women look like that. Do you have a square jaw? So you look like a man.

    • moomoo says:

Did she have a “strong” jaw before? I just don’t see it. It just looks like part of her face is missing now. She looked more unique before. Now just average.

  2. Sisi says:

Hopefully her X-men promotion won’t all be about food and fitness, because that would be depressing.

Also I am super annoyed that Psylocke gets to wear the outfit of the comics and it surprises me that people are so enthusiastic about it. It’s so obvious why Emma Frost, Mystique and Psylocke stay ‘authentic’ to the comic characters looks and the rest gets brandnew full neck-to-ankle bodysuits. I don’t connsider that improving the X-men movie universe.

    • HH says:

I’m setting myself up for disappointment all around. Who knows, X-Men may not actually be THAT bad. But they shot themselves in the foot coming off of the heels of CA: Civil War. That movie was incredibly well done. Good thing, Suicide Squad is giving itself some time.

ETA: It always upsets me when the X-Men movies and characters aren’t well done. Not only is it my favorite comic, but they have a multitude of incredibly interesting characters and storylines to work with. I feel like it takes more work to actually get it wrong.

      • Apsutter says:

Agreed. I love X-men! Such a glut of great characters and string women! This one looks like a turd tho…trailer was bad, reviews are bad, bad feeling all around. I don’t care for Munn so honestly I was bummed that she was cast in it to begin with

      • HH says:

I don’t mind Munn as Psylocke. I’ve never seen her in anything else (or at least anything I can remember), so she’s pretty much a blank slate for me. I just can’t get into J. Law as Mystique. I don’t find it to be a good fit. Her casting kind of reminds me of Halle Berry as the previous Storm. They just went for a name to help carry the film.

      • Apsutter says:

J L doesn’t bug me as Mystique but I could definitely see other actors stepping into that role in a better way. Did you see Deadpool? I never realized that he was affiliated with X-Men so I was DYING at the jokes that those were the only mutants they could get and the mansion/school being empty!

      • Sisi says:

yeah, since it seems that Storm and Psylocke are Apocalypse’s lackeys in this movieversion, I don’t expect them to have anything worthwhile to say. They might not even have speaking parts at all.

In the comics Psylocke started out as Mojo’s lackey so for her it might be in character and just a changed employer, but Storm doesn’t take orders from anyone EVER. And everytime she opens her mouth she has something worthwhile to say and she knows it, hence her confidence. That hasn’t happened yet to movie-Storm, and we’re 5 movies in. This next movie seems to be horrible for Storms character too, so disappointing :/

the moviemakers seem incapabale of doing Storm justice. I guess there isn’t a trope that suits her and they cannot be bothered to deviate from them.

      • HH says:

@Apsutter – Yes, Deadpool is from the X-Men universe. They attempted to do an introduction in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie, but that was EXCRUTIATING. They made Deadpool seem more annoying than anything. Glad, Ryan cameback and did it justice. Can’t wait for the sequel.

@Sisi – Agreed. They have so much to work with in this universe in terms of strong females and they aren’t. It’s bothersome. It’s my biggest issue aside from the standard plot issues.

      • JustVisiting says:

        HH
The deadpool in origins they attempted to introduce was not of the same universe as Deadpool movie.
And they were surprisingly authentic in keeping him that OTT annoying as he very much is in the comic verses. Many references are made to this as a painful running joke.

      • HH says:

        Aaah, my bad.

  3. Trixie says:

If you’re trying to gain muscle, you need to eat a lot of protein. I don’t see how eating 80% fruits and veggies would help one during a muscle-gaining training program.

    • Kate says:

It’s not like she had to get really ripped, just look a little more toned. Do some extra workouts, lose a little weight so the muscles are more obvious…

    • Bridget says:

Protein is a basic building block of all foods, and plenty of veggies/plants/grains are great sources of protein. Most Americans actually over-consume protein.

      • here's Wilson says:

I followed a vegan diet for a few years and was super slim – to much so – but had no problem maintaining the protein I needed in a day.

      • Kitten says:

Plenty of vegetables have protein in them-beans, spinach, lentils, winter squash..

I actually gained weight from eating too much protein a couple years ago.
I’ve had the most success with a 25% protein/75% carb diet.
Lots of eggs and egg whites these days for my protein and the rest is all carbs.

      • Myrna says:

I recently switched to Paleo for health reasons and the extra weight is finally, FINALLY, coming off – slowly, but absolutely is and I’ve tried everything for years to no avail.
So, basically, it’s mostly organic whole foods – vegis and fruit mostly w/lean protein.
No sugar, wheat…etc, you know the drill.

And yes, lots of protein in vegis.
Pound per pound, Romaine lettuce has more protein than beef.
(I haven’t eaten beef in over 30 yrs. or veal, but that’s another story)

So, you have to eat ALOT of romaine to get the same amount of protein as in beef, but that’s the point.
Besides, as Bridget notes, we eat far too much protein as it is.

And, yes, I was very hungry with that empty feeling in my stomach at the start, but my body has adjusted.
And I eat lots…so many vegis and fruit and if I don’t dwell on it, I don’t miss the starchy food.

The avocados and coconut milk I consume help fill the void.

      • Bridget says:

I eat meat because I like it, but there’s this idea that we MUST eat lots and lots of protein in order to lose weight/be healthy, and that’s simply not the case. We need to go back to eating real food, because overprocessed food is stripped of its nutrients (like proteins, fiber, vitamins) and then fortified in order to give it some sort of nutritional value, so when we eat a ton of that kind of food we’re eating a ton of empty calories. Carbs/starches aren’t the enemy, but folks simply aren’t choosing quality ones. I love grains and starchy veggies.

And protein shakes drive me crazy. People drink them because they’ve been sold this idea that they need to in order to lose weight or be healthy, but for the most part that’s just marketing.

      • Marty says:

All of you made a great point, which is diet is not a one size fits all thing, you have to find out what works for you. Wish I knew that 15 years ago….

Munn’s diet doesn’t sound bad, but it doesn’t mean diddly squat if she’s not properly nourishing her body with enough calories.

    • tealily says:

20% protein would be plenty, and as Bridget points out, fruits and veg have protein too.

      • Original T.C. says:

Yes 20% protein is good for most people but just like some people lose a lot of weight going vegetarian or vegan, there are also some people like me on the other spectrum.

I would be big as a house if only 20% of my calories were protein and 80% fruits/veggies/carbs. I need to keep my diet 60% lean protein (fish, chicken, protein shakes only) and 40% carbs including veggies. I feel great and look great with this ratio.

I tried both a vegetarian and vegan lifestyles but my metabolism is so high that I processed the foods right away and would be hungry an hour later even on high plant protein veggies. I felt sluggish and foggy brained. This is when I realized that a small percentage of us are not built for a veggie lifestyle.

  4. Rhiley says:

All I got is she is a very pretty young woman, whether that is from some photoshop or her diet or very subtle surgery, good genes, a well balanced combination of all of the above. The dress in the last picture isn’t the most flattering, but her skin and her arms look great.

    • Locke Lamora says:

I can’t really see the plastic surgery on her? She looks pretty much the same to me. And I find her georgeous.
I have a soft spot for Olivia ever since the Newsroom, I really liked her on that.

      • Isa says:

        Her jaw looks dramatically different.

      • QQ says:

^^ umm hmm also I see her Mouth just completely diff like Idk if that is a function of Veneers and Fillers together a la Miley or what exactly, i can’t put my finger on what is it though

      • Kitten says:

        Masseter Botox and veneers.

I think she looked SO much better before. And she sucked on The Newsroom (sorry Locke I know we disagree on this lol).

      • tealily says:

I think she looks the same too, but her face has gotten much thinner. I could see veneers though.

  5. ell says:

well of course you lose weight eating mostly fruit and veg, so it’s believable. her body looks healthy btw, so she’s probably doing it right.

    • polonoscopy says:

Yeah, but she’s also probably living on the toilet. 80 per cent fruits and veg???? JESUS

  6. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

    She looked better before.

    • Mimz says:

      Hi GNAT!
I agree, I liked her better when she was more… voluptuous or whatever. But Hollywood always likes them skinny, doesn’t it? Reminds me of how shocked I was to see Amanda Seyfried at those Oscars where Les Mis was a big contender, and I realized how tiny tiny tiny she got! And it made me sad.

    • maile says:

cosigned. she didn’t need to lose any weight. I imagine hollywood must give you a special kind of body dysmorphia.

    • SloaneY says:

      Yes!

    • Kate says:

I Agree. She’s gorgeous and now she looks gaunt. Gain it back Olivia!!

  7. right says:

It’s basically vegetarian if you pair the vegetables with some grains.

  8. Hannah says:

    Sounds fine.

I gained three stone when I was depressed. Only way I lost and maintain s doing 60% of each plate being veg and the other 30% being made up of whatever else.

    • ladysussex says:

Hannah I did the exact same after I gained weight from a health problem and the resulting depression. Except I did 2/3 green veg with 1/3 of my plate being meat or eggs. I ate about 1 serving of fruit a day, but the rest was all vegetables and high quality protein. No grains whatsoever. I lost a lot of weight, felt better than ever, and also greatly reduced inflammation that resulted from my illness. But %80 veg when working out heavily seems like protein would be lacking a bit, especially if she was working with heavy weights.

      • Hannah says:

When she says veggies though she is likely including all sorts of protein sources in there like beans, peas, lentils etc.

    • tealily says:

I did the same too. I’d shoot for 1/2 – 3/4 of my plate being veggies.

  9. Snowpea says:

I’m so interested in weightloss right now because I’ve successfully lost 30 kg after the birth of my third son 18 months ago.

Having a kid at 40 and stacking on so much weight was no laughing matter. But for those that are interested, here’s the stuff I learnt.

    * booze is the devils work. I freaking love wine – especially a crisp NZ sauv blanc! – but I’ve had to cut back to one wine night a week otherwise the kilos creep back on seemingly overnight.

    * walking an hour a day is not only great for maintaining weight but it clears your head and keeps you sane like nobody’s business.

    * Keep sugar to a minimum – as in, don’t eat it.

    * Apple cider vinegar (the good stuff, Braggs) in water twice a day is like some sorra miracle potion for weight loss plus it makes you feel vital, clearheaded and motivated.

    * Salads are your friend. But really really awesome salads with seeds, olives, carrot, lettuce, roast pumpkin, grated beetroot, capers, red onion, tom, fennel, avocado, sprouts etc – really exciting and delicious.

    * get a good nights sleep – being tired makes you automatically crave sweet stuff.

    • KittenFarts says:

ACV is amazing!!!! So hard to drink but it does wonderful things for your health too. I really need to get back on it

    • Halah says:

Amen to booze is the devil, I can give up wine for 2 weeks and drop 5 lbs so fast! I was thinking that is probably what Olivia did that really caused her to lose some bloat and look so thin. She used to always post about “day drinking” I bet she had to cut that ish out training for this role!

    • Apsutter says:

What’s the water to vinegar ratio that you use?

    • NUTBALLS says:

I’ve been working on getting my whacked out hormones (which regulate metabolism) back on track and that sounds similar to the way I’m eating now.

-Alcohol only on special occasions (wine/beer, 1-2x per month)
-no red meat, except for occasional free-range
-no dairy, except for a bit of goats milk cheese
-no sugar except what is naturally occurring
-fructose limited to three servings of fruit a day
      -veggies at every meal

Eggs, chicken, seafood, beans, quinoa & nuts are the protein anchors of my diet and I feel a lot better (no more bloating) as I drop 1-2 lbs per week.

I haven’t tried the ACV concoction. What is the ratio of it to water?

      • Myrna says:

        Congrats, Snowpea!

I love vinegar…the more acidic the better, but not for all…
I drink 2 tablespoons of organic cider vinegar straight from a cup, but if you must dilute it, it doesn’t matter the ratio just so long as you drink the 2T daily.
It cleanses the blood of toxics and thins it.

Hormones are the issue…I have an autoimmune disease that doesn’t allow for any grains or beans or dairy or wine (which I love!)

But, on those special occasions when I indulge, I have Ciroc Vodka since it’s made from grapes, not grains and add some sugar free tonic water with fresh lime, lemon or orange.
        Very nice and refreshing.
But having stopped drinking wine all together probably has helped take the pounds off in addition to eating Paleo overall.

And my mind clarity (probably because my autoimmune antibody count has dropped significantly with the new way of eating) is wonderful.
I feel like my old self again!

      • prettylights says:

I drink ACV daily too. I do 2 Tablespoons in a full glass of water and sometimes mix in an Emergen-C packet to make it taste better. Whenever I do this regularly I lose about 5 pounds not changing anything else, and when I stop I gain it back. It also keeps me from getting sick and gives me energy so I don’t drink it too close to bedtime.

    • hogtowngooner says:

Yes to your point about booze. I love to go watch professional sports which often means beer (and fried food, but less often). I’ve cut back, but damn it’s hard watching sports without a cold one 😉

Sleep is hugely important too! So many people forget that!

    • lyla says:

i wanna incorporate apple cider vinegar into my diet, but i can’t get pass the smell…

  10. Arpeggi says:

If you’re going to work out every day and aim to get a toner, more muscular body, you definitely need to eat more proteins than what the 20% “other” offers you. You’ll get weak and dizzy otherwise.

And sorry, it’s one of my pet peeves, but organic food is not “cleaner” or “tastier” or “healthier” than non-organic food!! Actually, some of the organic pesticides and herbicides used in big organic farms are more detrimental to the soil than non-organic ones because they contain copper and other elements that accumulate in the soil. Organic farming is usually a bit better for the soil, it can be better for the farmers as they aren’t exposed to as many potentially toxic products, but in terms of nutritional value, there’s no difference whatsoever. Eat locally whenever you can (less transport=less pollution and fresher, ripe products), make your own food instead of eating out, buy less but more often if you can to always have fresh food (not everyone lives close to many markets), grow a small garden and get preserves to be able to “eat local” even out of season. Whether it’s organic or not, this is a better way to have nutritional, healthy and sustainable food on your table.

  11. KittenFarts says:

I never understood why people act like eating mostly fruits & veggies is considered extreme. That’s actually what most physicians recommend! It’s called eating REAL FOOD!!! There’s lots of plant based protein supplements if deficiency is a concern. Most studies show that plant based diets have an decreased risk for heart disease, cancers, ect. Eating fast food, chips, subway, processed foods should be considered extreme. But unfortunately that’s why obesity is an epidemic now. Such skewed views on food.

    • tealily says:

Yup, this is a completely healthy diet, and it’s a good way to lose weight without being starving all the time (which is possible!!!).

    • Jwoolman says:

I remember once my aunt was cluck-clucking and viewing with alarm when I was eating a small can of garbanzo beans. But my brother walked by with a bowl filled with several scoops of ice cream, and she didn’t blink an eye…. Weird.

  12. Adrien says:

    She looks like Sarah Silverman.

    • Tiffany :) says:

That’s who I thought was on the cover (viewing it on my phone)!!! Her facial tweeking is so drastic and over done.

  13. Jean Grey says:

I’m sorry. Who is that? She doesn’t look like Olivia Munn anymore. She looks so basic and too thin. It makes her face look really long now. She looked better with more weight on her.

  14. Norman Bates' Mother says:

I actually believe that it’s a fast way to lose weight, because so much fruit and vegatables equals lots and lots of fiber, so this diet works as a natural laxative. I don’t know what she means by those other 20%, but as much as 80% of just fruit and vegetables seems like too much. What we need the most to build muscle and strenght and have energy are proteins and also carbs, even though those celebs demonize them and losing weight should not be the most important dietary issue. I’m not a nutritionist and I can be wrong, but I have some digestive problems and even though I can’t eat too much meat and grains, my gastrologist advised me against overdoing it with fiber as it can be damaging to the metabolism.

    • Nancy says:

Mrs. Bates or may I call you Norma: I was saddened by your sudden demise last week. Damn furnace! Don’t know if you watched, but it was epic but I was taken aback by the events….anyway, yes fruits and veggies are our friends. I am the opposite of you, I have a situation any time lettuce is presented to me, so I eat avocado, red and yellow peppers, cucumbers, they’re so darn good. Although a nice tamale isn’t going to hurt a thing! I’m on a Mexican food fixation that I can’t seem to lose…margaritas anyone!?

    • JS says:

Actually an 80% fruit and veg/20% other diet is perfectly fine. She needs to get protein-rich food and healthy fats in that 20% though.

Vegetables and fruit ARE carbs. There are PLENTY of carbs and even protein in fruits and vegetables. The sugar alone in fruit and starchy veg like peas, squash, corn, sweet potatoes etc have a surprisingly high amount of carbs. You don’t need grains to get carbs and they’re certainly not more nutrition than fruits and vegetables in any way.

This diet is probably hard to maintain for an extended period of time since it’s a little restrictive, so that would be the main concern. All “diets” are hard to maintain period. I’d also be VERY concerned about the constant gas all that fruit and veg would give me! Eeks!

      • Nancy says:

Could sweet potatoes every day. The perfect food, skin and all. Root vegetables= beta-carotene.

      • Bridget says:

White potatoes are awesome too, though they get lumped in with “white” foods and get a bad rap. They’re full of fiber and protein, and they really stick with you when you eat them, so you don’t get hungry 20 minutes later!/

      • Nancy says:

Bridget: I seem to have left the word “eat” sweet potatoes out of my sentence I was so excited. Yes white potatoes do get a bad rap because many think of Mickey D’s fries…lol. I’m all for spuds of any color, problem is butter and sour cream. Just a tad for some glamour!

    • KiddVicious says:

You get a fatty liver from the high amounts of fructose in fruit. If I’m going to get a fatty liver from fruit, that fruit is going to be wine.

    • Jwoolman says:

I agree that you don’t have to go overboard in fiber. It depends on how much you are eating of food in general. I’ve seen reasonable recommendations to aim for 10 to 15 grams fiber for every 1000 calories. Cultures that naturally have very high daily fiber intake probably are so active that they normally eat a lot more than we do, in addition to eating higher fiber foods.

Fiber may not be the magic bullet we’ve been assuming for disease prevention – even toilet habits such as squatting instead of sitting may count for more. (check out the Squatty Potty platform to help you keep your knees above your hips on a regular Western toilet, they have info on it all at the squattypotty website…)

But 80% fruit and veg calories (if that’s what she means, rather than a relative volume) really isn’t extreme.

A good book to look at is Eat to Live by Fuhrmann. Take a look at the eating plan he has for his morbidly obese patients who need to lose weight fast for medical reasons. It puts fruit and veg front and center and does not include animal foods. He backs up his eating suggestions with detailed citations of the medical literature.

  15. Ashley says:

All that effort for that flop movie? lol

  16. Sarah01 says:

I’m glad she lost weight in a healthy way, although I liked her body and face before. She looks good now but better before.

  17. Jess says:

She looks like Megan Fox now. That’s all I got!

  18. Dani says:

Where did the bottom half of her face go???

    • Apsutter says:

It’s so weird! What’s even more bizarre for me is that so many people can’t notice any plastic surgery! Maybe it’s because I watched Attack of the Show for years and have known who she was since like 07-08 that I can really see a difference. She looks like a completely different person to me now. The entirety of her face is changed. Eyes, cheeks, chin, jaw, lips all look dramatically changed. Half the time time I don’t know it’s her unless I read the tag

      • Snowflake says:

Yes, she looks drastically different. Her face is longer, thinner and more diamond shaped. Before, she had a rounded, fuller face. With a wide jaw.

  19. shannon says:

Another natural beauty Kardashianing herself into plastic. She won’t be getting any work five years from now if she keeps this up.

Xmen First Class was amazing. Never saw Days of Future Past, although I heard it was not bad. This one looks ridiculous.

  20. Lbliss says:

I want to hear more about her workout than her diet plan for this movie. I eat a lot of protein but most of it is plant based so I don’t see a huge problem with her diet. If her protein source is plant based except for that 20% then it doesn’t seem too extreme to me. She can alway have lean meats and dairy to round out that 20%. Or a bag of chips lol.

  21. Bridget says:

Whatever she did to her mouth/jaw is just straight up bad work.

  22. Sam says:

She is such a beauty, but was much, much more beautiful before. It looks like she had her jaw reduced, or maybe it is just a lot of weight loss. either way she used to be one of my favourites and now just looks kind of bland.

  23. OriginallyBlue says:

Eh. Batman vs. Superman had even worse reviews and made a lot. The die hard and even moderate fans are going to see the movie regardless of critics and ratings. The criticisms don’t appear to be anything worth completely avoiding the movie, especially since they are comparing this one to the last 2 which were pretty good.

    • Apsutter says:

It’s not all about money tho. Batman v Superman has been raked over the coals and that movie did absolutely nothing to help the reputations of its stars. Plenty of movies make a ton of money and are basically forgotten, like a blip on the radar

      • OriginallyBlue says:

I don’t know. I feel like for these types movies the studios are more worried about making back the money they spent and turning some profit, not if the actors are giving award worthy performances or if people forget about it in a few weeks. Also I don’t think that any of the actors involved are going to find a hard time finding work if this doesn’t do well. It may not be their best work, but they can only work with what they are given and if it gets messed up in the editing process, I wouldn’t blame the cast for that. All of the leads already have excellent resumes, that aren’t going to be negated by the fact that they did a “not as good as the previous ones” comic book movie. As for the others like Olivia who isn’t a good actress anyway and still manages to find work despite her lack of talent, this isn’t going to hurt because she barely speaks in it. I haven’t read any reviews saying that the acting was bad, most of the issues seem to be on the part of the writers and director.

      • Apsutter says:

I don’t think Affleck will be affected but I can definitely see this hurting Henry Cavill. He doesn’t have the best track record and they’ve been desperately trying to turn him into a movie star to no avail. When I see he’s in a movie I know that the reviews will be that he’s bland and wooden. And I do think the studio wants to make the money back but when you make completely forgettable movies like the late 90s Godzilla, the first Hulk, fantastic four no one really cares. They come out, make a bunch of money, make absolutely no cultural impact, and then disappear. Certainly not the outcome the actors want even if the studio is happy with the money

  24. Mar says:

It looks like she had her chin fat sucked and it makes her look like a child.

  25. cindyp says:

That diet is so unhealthy, scary that impressionable people will buy into it because Giselle & whoever is doing it. The body needs complex protein & fat. We are carnivores. Beans should not be your only source of protein. Yes, you will lose weight initially but you are doing long term damage to your body

    • KittenFarts says:

Explain why a diet heavy in meat & animal product have a higher risk for heart disease, stroke & various cancers? Following a plant based diet lowers that risk.

    • Korra says:

Like another poster on here mentioned, I eat meat because I like it. Meat products, in moderation, are fine and can be a good source of protein. But the western diet has been oversold on the necessity of meat and dairy. And in the US in particular, the meat and dairy industry produce products laced with hormones and other unnecessary byproduct.

There is nothing unhealthy about eating a diet that consists of mostly plant-based products, as long as there is a variety of fruits and vegetables consumed within a healthy calorie intake. Studies have shown the benefit of eating mostly plant-based foods in your diet. I don’t get how people see that is unhealthy. If anything, it is scary that people believe that.

    • Jwoolman says:

CindyP- no, we actually aren’t carnivores. All our essential amino acids (i.e., the building blocks for our proteins that must be obtained from external sources) are plentiful in plants. We have many signs that we are not built for safely eating animals, such as our long intestinal tract and relatively weak stomach acid compared to a true carnivore like a cat. We can manage to survive while eating meat and fish, but it’s not our optimum diet. Humans in some cultures like ours just get into the habit of eating meat and so the cuisine focuses on it and people assume it’s necessary when actually it’s not. We probably got started by stealing leftovers from the true carnivores, although control of fire allowed us to cook meat and make it safer and more digestible for us non-carnivores.

One mistake people make when they try vegan eating, though, is to avoid fat or to just forget to replace the fat they were getting from animal foods. That is generally what will send them screaming back to eating dead animals or at least egg and dairy. Vegans should not be afraid of getting more fat in their diets than carnivores.

Fruits and veg do have significant protein, so her 80% is contributing to her protein total. I track my food for various reasons, so I can see how much protein they add. I tossed some cucumber, half cup grapes, a few strawberries, a little parsley, and some celery (all nicely frozen) into the Vitamix this morning and my tracker claimed the fruit/veg gave me 4 grams of protein. It wasn’t the gobs of fruit/veg you see stuffed into blenders in the infomercials, either. But half a gram here, half a gram there adds up fast when you are eating enough of the stuff. If 20% of her diet includes other good protein sources such as nuts, seeds, legumes, mushrooms, or grains- even a very active person building muscle will do fine. I’ve known vegans in that category who eat more than 100 grams of protein per day with no trouble. (My minimum protein need is only 40 grams for comparison and it’s easy to go well beyond that even when I’m eating vegan and even when my diet is temporarily restricted from some protein sources for medical reasons.) The rule of thumb is to aim for 12% to 15% of calories as protein. 20% is probably overkill for most of us, so on her version of an 80-20 diet, she has plenty of leeway overall in that 20% “everything else” category, especially since she will already have picked up a helpful amount of protein in the 80% fruit and veg portion.

  26. Kate says:

You know, I’m so over this idea that it’s somehow more empowering to play a sexy character who exposed skin but–hey she has a sword just as I’m over the bashing of the civilian female characters who happen to be engaged in a relationship with a man. Truth? A lot of those “girlfriend” characters that these women love to bash –Lois Lane, Pepper Potts, Jane etc—are important characters with deep and important comic history and they get to wear business suits as opposed to :::this. I aspire to be more like those women than swing a sword wearing a sexy costume that is clearly there for male gaze. Sorry not sorry.

  27. FingerBinger says:

I don’t see anything wrong with it for temporary weight loss. This isn’t something you should do long term imo.

  28. TreadStyle says:

Everytime I’ve seen her recently it just makes me so sad!!! Her face was so natural and unusual that it made her such a beauty. She had a face that never looked bad, no matter how it how little make up and she was fit and had great figure. Her uniqueness was totally carved away w this new face, she looks like lots of other actresses. 🙁

  29. prettylights says:

What happened to her right eye? It looks pretty wonky, like she tried to get that double eyelid surgery but it only worked on one eye. Either way she is a lovely woman but she definitely has lost some uniqueness by having her jaw shaved or whatever she did

  30. fd says:

I don’t see any evidence of plastic surgery or anything else, I really can’t see what others are seeing in that regard. I think she just lost weight. She looked great before, she looks great now.

  31. boniva says:

Then where is her jawline today? Her diet made her lose bone mass as well?

  32. Dingding says:

So dieting has the same effect on the face as plastic surgery? And oddly, dieting makes your face look more “standard western beauty”? Hmmm….

  33. Faber says:

The magazine photo shoot photos bum me out. Particularly the LA backdrop one. Dead eyes.

  34. Redd says:

    She was prettier before. PERIOD.

  35. Kimbers says:

I think more people have stretched out their stomachs and get gastro issues bc of eating habits. Eliminating processed foods and soda and going for earth healthy will allow intestinal issues some ppl have bc of the inflammation to totally go into remission. You also lose tons of weight bc your body has doesnt have all the bad food that makes you fat and real food taste better.

  36. Jessica says:

Since some people have posted that she hardly has any lines and wears the required skimpy costume, how exactly does she figure that this role has more substance than a “girlfriend” role? Because she has a fight scene or two? Maybe her lines were cut when they realized she can’t really act.

  37. Americano says:

She looks so different to me than her Newsroom days. It’s unfortunate really because she was very beautiful. I’m Korean and shaving the jaw bone to create a less angular jawline is a fairly common plastic surgery in Korea. It’s done to look more feminine and have a doll-like face. You can google it to see pictures. The results look very much like Olivia Munn. Another reason I think she might have gone this route is the whole potato thing. That was a huge trend diet among Korean celebrities. They would basically eat one potato per meal. She seems to be following the Asian trends in plastic surgery and diet from what I can tell.

  38. alihar999 says:

I saw on the Today show this morning that she lost 12 pounds. TWELVE POUNDS…..when did losing 12 pounds constitute a news story??????
