Donald Trump to women being sexually harassed at work: find another job

FFN_Trump_Donald_CHP_060716_52085657

Do you think the tide has turned on Donald Trump? I’m not so sure. He’s had a terrible week, and all of it was self-inflicted. Trump and his surrogates still haven’t shut up about the Khan family and how the Khans are “viciously attacking” Trump, and even some big-name Republicans are coming out to defend the Khans and gold-star families in general now. Trump also screwed up on some fundamental questions about Ukraine and Russia. And there are like twenty million more controversies, misstatements, lies, scandals and fumbles in just the past week. Here’s one of the stories that hasn’t garnered that much attention, mostly because Trump has said so much other crazy sh-t. Trump has been repeatedly asked about Roger Ailes stepping down from Fox News, and the reports that many Fox News’ female employees have been sexually harassed and more. In a recent interview with USA Today, Trump was asked again about his defense of Ailes, and what he (Trump) would tell Ivanka if she was being sexually harassed at work. His answer is… what you would expect, honestly.

Donald Trump thinks it’s “very sad” that women at Fox News are “complaining” about being sexually harassed by former Fox chief Roger Ailes. As allegations against his old friend piled up, Trump told NBC’s Chuck Todd on July 24 that, “Some of the women that are complaining, I know how much he’s helped them…And when they write books….and say wonderful things about him….[N]ow, all of a sudden, they’re saying these horrible things about him.”

Without passing judgment about the specific allegations, which are currently under investigation by 21st Century Fox, one should be able to accept that a woman could both have been promoted by a boss and harassed by him. Women are often forced to maintain good relations with men who abuse them precisely because those men have power.

When I mentioned this to Trump in a phone interview last Tuesday, he doubled down on his retrograde take. “There was quite a bit of fabulous things said [about Ailes by Gretchen Carlson],” he told me. “It would be easier for me and more politically correct for me to say you are right. But you would think she wouldn’t say those things.”

I pointed out that it wasn’t just Carlson who had made allegations. “I didn’t know it was more than just her,” Trump told me, even though his comments to Chuck Todd referred to women, plural.

What if someone had treated Ivanka in the way Ailes allegedly behaved? His reply was startling, even by Trumpian standards. “I would like to think she would find another career or find another company if that was the case,” he said.

[From USA Today]

That’s right, ladies. Even if you are Donald Trump’s favorite daughter, even if you work for your father’s company, if you get sexually harassed, Trump’s advice is still “find another job.” Not “stand up for yourself.” Never stand up for yourself if you’re a woman. Never. If you are a woman, you are just there to be pretty harassment-bait. And if you can’t handle that, you need to find another job, you ugly dog. You’re probably on your period. To call Trump’s words “retrograde” do a disservice to actual retrograde thinking.

Also: the first segment on today’s Morning Joe was “Is Donald Trump mentally ill?”

I’m so glad I’m not related to him. He gets more embarrassing as time passes.

    • LadyMTL says:

If you look at the last pic, I think Ivanka is wishing she wasn’t related to him at all. If ever there was a textbook “poker face” expression, she’s wearing it.

      • Mich says:

She and the rest of his favorite kids clearly adore him. I can’t tell if they are blind to his offensive strangeness or just as nuts as he is.

      • Tate says:

@Mich or it is their normal. This nut job is the only thing they know for a father.

      • Mia V. says:

They are rich, it makes handling their shit father easier.

      • LinaLamont says:

“She and the rest of his favorite kids clearly adore him. I can’t tell if they are blind to his offensive strangeness or just as nuts as he is.”

They share his DNA. It’s not brain surgery. Oh, my bad….it IS brain surgery.

      • Snappyfish says:

@Mich I’m guessing the checks he writes them clear? It’s all I got.

      • mayamae says:

Ivanka is in his inner circle, and supposedly his most trusted advisor (after himself). Her husband writes Trump’s speeches. She’s co-signing this stuff.

      • Chicken says:

I think Ivanka probably knows her dad is crazy, but she is totally in this for the power it will afford her and her family. Being First Daught/Presidential Advisor could be a boon for her future. That or she’s letting him spew all this crazy stuff in the hopes of tanking his campaign.

      • Birdix says:

She’s a valuable tool–with her aspirational wholesome, hardworking beautiful blond mom appeal, she’s a way to make his racist crap seem more mainstream, “normal.” She’s as bad as he is, in a less visually offensive package.
I’m so bitterly disappointed and disillusioned that so many Americans agree with his racist, misogynistic message. I was naive in thinking the US was a very different place.

      • hmmm says:

I’m guessing they’re a sociopathic family like Mafia families. No way the yam coloured fascist’s value system was not passed on. Ivanka also married a guy with a billionaire pedigree whose father is a convicted felon known for shady mob type tactics. Imagine the value system there. The fact that both of them endorse, support and advise this demagogue is all that we need to know about them.

I don’t understand how Chelsea could have anything to do with the likes of Ivanka.

      • LinaLamont says:

        @Mich
I hope you didn’t take my post as a dig at you. It wasn’t. I just realized that it might have come off that way….I was just calling neuroscience brain surgery.

      • adastraperaspera says:

I actually think Ivanka is waiting in the wings to run for office too. She is more frightening than he is, because she knows better. But like the rest of her family, it’s all about money. I agree with @hmmm who says they operate like a mafia family.

    • Tiffany :) says:

      He’s just so awful.

Oh, and it stood out to me that he didn’t just say “get a new job”. He said get a new career. Not just a job, but an entirely new line of work. He’s an azzhole.

      • Saras says:

Vote! Vote! Vote! This misogynistic orange even thinks his daughter should quit a job instead of standing up for herself?!? Explains why he feels he can act / say inappropriate things about her like ‘dating her’. Welp it’s time to give up your careers ladies and go back to barefoot and pregnant in your kitchens! 😜

      • Nancy says:

Tiffany: Right. He is an asshat, but more seriously a sociopath. Now he is saying the election will be rigged. Hope that means he sees failure in the future. The biggest question to me is how this happened in the first place and who are the people who endorse him. I know a woman who supports him and asked her what she felt the punishment should be for a woman who had a abortion. Of course there wasn’t a logical answer. I’d be willing to forfeit four months of my life to jump to November and have Hillary elected. He just cannot be President, period.

      • mayamae says:

@Nancy, the scary part is that even his “sane” running mate wants to force women to pay for burial services for their miscarriages! It’s like a dystopian novel.

And I agree that he’s setting up for a loss by talking about the election being rigged. But my fear is that he’s going to call for an insurrection. The man is insane, and his fans are militant – and they probably have the majority of the guns in this country. I live in the bible belt, and I’m a little nervous. I don’t think Obama would be inserting himself into this election to such a degree if he didn’t deeply fear a Trump presidency.

      • annetommy says:

mayamae, without wishing to add to the depression, one of Trump’ s mini-me-s (can’t recall name) was talking about insurrection if the vote was “rigged”, the word “bloodbath” was used. Pretty close to incitement to violence I would have thought.

      • Chicken says:

@mayamae, I’m scared, too. BUT, I also live in the Bible Belt, and a new poll came out yesterday showing that Clinton and Trump are neck and neck in Georgia, of all places. I know that polls can be deeply flawed, but, these same polls showed Trump with a solid lead a few months ago, so maybe the tide is turning? I’m almost afraid to be optimistic, though, for fear of jinxing it or something.

      • Tiffany :) says:

“was talking about insurrection if the vote was “rigged”, the word “bloodbath” was used.”

That is very scary! And yes, Nancy, I agree. I think he sees failure looming and is looking for a scapegoat.

      • addie says:

        Trump’s a fool and a tool.
The family is beyond redemption. Seeing a picture of an overly sexualised Ivanka as a teenager posed sitting on her father’s lap, his hand on her hip was bad enough. When she introduced him at the convention and again he laid his hands on her hip for a couple of beats longer than needed made me shudder. Sick family.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Funny you should say that. Any time I encounter people that act in some kind of really unpleasant or distasteful way, I tell myself, “Sure glad I’m not married to them!” It seems to help. Though with DT, I can’t do that, it’s disgusting, intolerable and gives me the willies.

    • EM says:

They are all exactly like him except maybe not as brash. Eric came out defending his father saying that Ivanka would never let herself get harassed because she’s such a strong woman – WTH. You demented people need to STFU – you know nothing about the issues real people struggle with and you sure as hell don’t know anything about sexual harassment.

    • delorb says:

I think he’s been trying hard to lose for months now, but the Bros just won’t let him.

    • Rayya Kirt says:

I wonder how many women had to find another job because of HIM. Old orange perv. Plus ya know, like, finding another job is easy as pie…not like unemployment has been an issue. And it’s great problem solving; keep the wrong do-er employed and chase out the victim. As a reminder: This orange pus filled cretin is way too dangerously close to classified information he won’t have the cognition to comprehend, decision making he won’t have the skills to make and a proximity to a button he will be itching to press if another country insults his hair.

  2. Sam says:

At least he practices what he preaches…?

    • MsGoblin says:

      Exactly, Sam.

I’ve developed a new weight-loss diet, called “Trump the Fat”. I just read about his misogyny on a daily basis and completely lose my appetite.

So far, I’ve lost three pounds.

      • boredblond says:

You’re lucky..I reach for cookies to sooth me when I think about this blowhard. .his ‘reasoning’ is so off, I seriously don’t think he’s playing with a full deck.

      • Tate says:

My liver is going to take a beating over the next few months. Hurry up November!

      • Lucky Charm says:

I need to try that. Right now I have a glass of wine every time he says something more ridiculous than the last, and I’ve gained three pounds!

      • Trashaddict says:

Lovely Ms. Goblin! I’m in! And you should bottle that sense of humor and sell it!

    • Rayya Kirt says:

He would never step down from a job he wanted. Ever. His preaching is self serving…
He practices what is only best for him alone. Ego is his only true running mate. I hope Hillary harasses him and tells him to find another career and then he will practice it.

  3. Lucky says:

I really don’t know how any woman can justify voting for him

    • Jenns says:

I really don’t know how anyone can justify voting for him.

      • Kitten says:

Agreed but I could at least understand it if the only people left voting for Trump were white cis dudes–but we know that isn’t the case.

So yeah, it absolutely boggles my mind that any woman would vote for him.
        Truly inexcusable.

      • Original T.C. says:

His voters know he is full of it but when interviewed their number 1reason for voting for him is that he says things that society consider’s non PC. The more outrageous, the better. And they can use it to stick it to the RNC.

      • kanyekardashian says:

@Jenns: My uneducated, white-trash, working class brother is voting for Trump. Why? “He’s gonna build a wall!” Yes, my brother actually believes that Mexican immigrants are literally risking their lives crossing the border with the intent to take his mailman job away from him, as if that’s even a possibility. That’s the mentality of the Trump supporter.

    • Kay says:

Well my mother in law is voting for him because he’s a “Washington outsider” and she thinks he’s funny. If I think too much about it, my head might explode.

      • Kitten says:

I don’t understand this characterization of Trump as “funny”. He’s not witty, he’s not clever, he’s not quick-witted–he’s just a mean old bastard. His idea of humor is mocking people who don’t agree with him–not cleverly mocking–just juvenile grad school sh*t.

      • Christin says:

If this guy were at your workplace, in your neighborhood, etc., he’d be the arrogant jerk bully to avoid. I really don’t understand how people find him comical.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

Not only is he not funny, but voting for someone you find funny as if that’s the decisive quality you want in the president and Commander in Chief … I hope she’s a mature and generous mother in law to you otherwise.

      • doofus says:

because making fun of disabled people is “funny”?

      • Froggy says:

My neighbor is an older woman and she said she can’t vote for hiliary because she can’t respect her standing by Bill and Hiliary made horrible comments about woman Bill harassed. She said that she said something like ‘drag a 100 bill through the trailer and you never know what you’ll find’. She strongly feels h is anti-woman and can’t be trusted. She feels Trump is the lesser evil.
I will say this election has been filled with crazy stories about why ppl are voting certain ways.

      • Insomniac says:

If he were in my workplace he’d have been shown the door a while ago. I guess that’s his appeal to a certain type — the people who actually miss the days when you could grope women and say racist, bigoted crap at the office without getting a call from HR. Boo hoo.

      • thaliasghost says:

Sending you strength for dealing with your mother-in-law. She is the type of person that makes you question if democracy is really such a good thing after all. Sure, being a white male multi millionaire makes him an “outsider” who will minimize the lobbyism within the gove…oh wait.

      • isabelle says:

*Funny*. He never laughs, never cracks a joke, doesn’t have the ability to laugh at himself and has zero sense of humor. He has no humor, he is humorless….and its one of the things I dislike about him the most. Never trust anyone that has no humor.

      • Feebee says:

You should tell your mum it’s not nice to laugh at someone with Trump’s problem.

    • Tate says:

That is all I keep thinking everytime I read something about this vile being. How could any woman justify voting for him?? He has made it abundantly clear than he thinks we are “lesser than”

    • C. C. Cedras says:

Not only that, but how in h*ll can a HISPANIC woman (a Texas cousin’s wife) even entertain the idea. My cousin-in-law has been an ardent Trumpian from the very beginning. I finally had to unfollow her on social media because my feeds were slammed with Trump propaganda. smh

      • Esmom says:

Yeah, NPR interviewed a Hispanic woman Trump supporter at the RNC and it was really depressing. She conceded that Trump wasn’t right about all Hispanics being lazy or rapists but went on to say that some are indeed lazy. Sigh.

    • Pablo says:

Or any man who loves the women in his life.

    • Shark Bait says:

As a fun activity last night (after the kids were in bed and I finished Stranger Things) I decided to look at the facebook comments under the picture of Trump eating KFC on his private jet. The comments are mostly older white women (50 plus). They are posting all this bat crap crazy stuff about Mr. Khan saying he is deeply connected to the “Clinton Cash”. It’s so bizarre.

  4. JWQ says:

This reminds me of when someone gets fired and before leaving tells the boss every single horrible thing they think about him/her. Is it whishful thinking to believe that he knows he’ s not going to win and he’ s simply saying whatever crap he has in his mind because he has nothing left to lose? I hope that is the case.

    • Jwoolman says:

Trump has been doing this all through the primaries as well. He’s just being himself and probably is baffled that people are complaining more and more about him. But he’s running for POTUS now and people will pay closer attention to his statements. He’s not just one distraction out of many as in the primaries. The media is starting to catch up also. Look at Morning Joe, who was happy to have Trump call into the show frequently before but now is wondering if the guy is mentally ill. I think Joe said he’s voting for Hillary, or at least not for Trump.

Well-known Republicans are also becoming braver about saying outright that they can’t vote for him. Some are even saying they will vote for Hillary. That kind of thing is like a snowball rolling downhill, getting bigger all the time. People who identify as Republicans and may commonly vote a straight Party ticket (there’s usually an option for that on the ballot here) but who have been hesitant about Trump can feel isolated until they hear others say the same thing, so it feels more normal to not vote for the top spot on the ballot at all or to vote for the Democrat or anybody but Trump. That’s really what the infamous Ted Cruz was saying as they tried to boo him off the stage at the RNC for not explicitly endorsing Trump. He said “vote your conscience” but support every other Republican on the ballot. He was saying indirectly “you don’t have to stay home on Election Day, you can just not vote for Trump”.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

The Republicans have to do more, they have to withdraw their endorsement of him as a presidential candidate. They have to do more than be evasive and distancing, they have to be actively condemning. Anything short of that shows that they are putting party before country. And that, for them, is business as usual.

      • doofus says:

Who ARE, you are 100% correct.

this “we condemn his comments, he doesn’t speak for the Republican Party, but we still support him as our candidate” crap has got to be questioned more aggressively by the media.

they keep saying that he doesn’t speak for their party, but HE IS THEIR CANDIDATE FOR THE HIGHEST OFFICE IN THE COUNTRY! he absolutely DOES speak for your party, and if you don’t like what he’s saying, you need to say you no longer support him as your party’s candidate, end of!

      • Esmom says:

Preach, doofus. All this weasel wording by key (and minor) GOP players has got to stop.

      • Lynnie says:

President Obama just had a joint conference with the Singapore Prime Minister about the very same topic @doofus and WATP? It was awesome. This week has not been Trump’s week AT ALL.

  5. Astrid says:

I’m hoping The Donald’s downfall will come sooner than later…

  6. Birdix says:

Where will the Republican Party be after this election? Maybe this is a way to burn it down so they can start over.

    • Lynnie says:

If Trump wins, it’s going to be a manageable nightmare for them depending on how stupid he is. If he just confines himself to making dumb statements, not doing his job, and listening to his advisors (loL) then manageable. If he becomes even more of egomaniac, then possibly impeachment. Either way, with Pence at the helm, 4 conservative picks on the Supreme Court, and a Republican majority in Congress it’ll be a downgrade in quality of life for normal Americans (fights on things already established like abortion, while ignoring the real problems like college debt), and send a message to the public that Republicans just do not care about you which I don’t see working for party longevity.

If he loses, it’s going to be chaotically funny. Lots of backtracking, finger pointing, “I told you sos”, etc. Anyone who stood up to him this election season will get a rise in stature, while those that went along for the ride will get tossed out. (With the exception of Paul Ryan maybe). Hopefully they’ll clean house, grow a backbone, and tighten up a few things so THIS never happens again. I don’t see them changing their core ideology though, just how overt they are with it. So in other words a Tea Party/moderate Repbulicans split.

      • Birdix says:

thoughtful answer, Lynnie. From moral majority to tea party, Repubs have been in bed with the religious right so long it’d be interesting to see what the party would do without them. Can you imagine what Lincoln would say about Trump/the convention/the current Republican party?

  7. Emma33 says:

I think he has NPD (narcissistic personality disorder).

    • Ms. Lib says:

Emma33 — as a counselor, I would agree with your diagnosis.

    • Kiliki says:

      Oh, without a doubt.

This man is SO much like my father. If he becomes president too? I will be devastated. He disgusts me.

      • Aussie girl says:

His children and family would have to know there is something not right as in NPD. I would be embarrassed to introduce a partner to him or every time we would have to see him for a social Occassion I would be apologising-bitching about him on the way home.

    • holly hobby says:

      I don’t think he’s all there period.

    • Jwoolman says:

Aussie Girl- his kids most likely had little to do with him as children. He has said that he leaves such things to his wives. He probably got more interested in them when they were older, but still they may have had limited personal contact. So his problems may not have affected them as much as happens with kids who have more contact with a narcissistic parent. Plus he’s a big source of cash for them, so they can ignore his cluelessness just for that reason.

    • Rayya Kirt says:

That, and probably a slew of other disorders IMO. Usually it’s co-morbid with mental illness. I could maybe see myself betting on Trump taking a dare to throw on an orange cape and thinking he could fly. But, he would probably make his VP go first and challenge Hillary. He’d be all, “We’ll hey I would a done it.”
And, somewhere in the land of bros, beer cans would smashed on heads agreeing to his bravery.

  8. Esmom says:

“To call Trump’s words “retrograde” do a disservice to actual retrograde thinking.”

Amen. You’d think the tide would be turning but seeing all the vicious and vitriolic comments on an article yesterday about the Khans leads me to think otherwise. He could, as he’s said, murder someone and no one would bat an eye. And they’d blame HRC. Grr.

  9. Jwoolman says:

The Donald really doesn’t have a clue about how change happens, does he? He would have told Rosa Parks, “Just take a taxi.”

Not to mention that sexual harassment is illegal and against company policy. So shutting up about it is encouraging disregard for law and order, Mr. Trump.

    • Ms. Lib says:

      Funny taxi remark!

    • Tiffany :) says:

      The taxi line is brilliant!

    • Who ARE these people? says:

He’s actually expressing a longtime right-wing conservative point of view, which is to tell victims (of social or economic injustice or violence of many kinds) to in essence ‘pull themselves up by their bootstraps’ and deal with their problems on their own. It could be anything from saying, “Public library closed because of budget cuts? Go to the bookstore and buy a book!” to “Why did you go out wearing that short skirt?” to “City flooded? Family drowned? Why didn’t you get in your SUV and drive to a hotel for a couple of weeks?” “No place to vote? Why don’t you take a day off and drive 500 miles to the nearest city?” And so on. By not supporting a host of legislative supports for victims of injustice, the Republicans have long been giving everyone the same message as Donald Trump. That’s why they let him happen. They’re not sorry he’s running; they’re sorry he has such a big mouth.

      • Tate says:

        Great post. Spot on.

      • mary s says:

        Makes sense, Who.

      • hmmm says:

Sadly, you nailed it. Well said!

      • Tiffany :) says:

        Such a great post!
Have you heard about the rulings about voting restriction laws in a number of states being struck down?

In North Carolina, state regulators asked for a report about what factors determine whether a voter gets to voting stations, broken down by race .

They then crafted laws to target the VERY same factors that influence whether or not black voters make it to the polls. I am so glad the court system struck it down.

Not for a lack of trying by the GOP, though! This party has stood for bigotry and discrimination for a long time, long before Trump.

      • Trashaddict says:

Tiffany that’s really interesting (but awful). Can you put up a link to it?

    • Feebee says:

it may be illegal but no guarantee it against Trump company policy. This is the guy who thought women should be (criminally) punished for abortion.

  10. Senaber says:

    I CANT

  11. spaniard says:

Is this man capable of talking without being downright offensive?.

At least, you americans have a chance to vote him out. In my country we have the Forty Thieves Cave in our parliament and we are ruled by crooks…so politicians are rubbish in most places.

    • Neverwintersand says:

What country that would be? I’m from Ukraine, and it’s the same here 🙂

  12. Taiss says:

What else? If you’re being stalked, move out of the city???

So a man is harassing a woman, but she’s the one to make changes in her life and the man suffers no consequences?

Yet, some women are supporting him. So sad!

    • Tate says:

In Trump’s mind…. that is exactly what a woman should do.

    • Tiffany :) says:

” a man is harassing a woman, but she’s the one to make changes in her life and the man suffers no consequences”

Thank you for spelling it out so clearly! GRRR!! How!?! How can this man be running for President when he’s living in the bigoted and sexist past?!? Why would anyone vote for him? The negatives are just so big and numerous!

    • hmmm says:

      Well, it’s always the woman’s fault, isn’t it? /sarcasm

  13. Pedro45 says:

One of his sons (i honestly can’t tell the difference) was on CBS this morning and said that Ivanka was too strong a woman to let this kind of thing happen to her. I just can’t anymore.

    • Tourmaline says:

      ugh really? so gross.
Dark hair greased back = Donald Jr.
Light hair greased back = Eric

      • Pedro45 says:

Yup. And he also vomited some word salad about how his father wasn’t criticizing the Khans, it was about ISIS.

Thanks for the tutorial. Lol. I just think of his kids as Golden Girl, The American Psycho twins, the Afterthought, and mini-American Psycho.

      • doofus says:

“I just think of his kids as Golden Girl, The American Psycho twins, the Afterthought, and mini-American Psycho.”

OMG, you win. that is awesome! ESP “the Afterthought”.

      • Kitten says:

LOL @ The American Psycho Twins and Mini American Psycho.
I like that better than The Trophy Hunter Twins.

        Pedro45, lol.

And yes “ISIS!” seems to be the deflection from this latest debacle. That and “it’s Hillary’s fault for parading the Khans at the DNC.” Oh, and “what do the Khans expect by putting themselves onstage?”

Not a single “so sorry for your loss” or “we appreciate his service and sacrifice.” SMH.

Brilliant, Doofus. When I come here the posts make me happy. It’s a good antidote for stupid overprivileged narcissistic white males.

    • Onerous says:

I saw that. It was repulsive. Also he kept saying “The three of us here” when there were actually 4 people at the table. Was he not including Gayle King!? It was so bizarre.

      • Pedro45 says:

Yes! He said the three of us twice. I was wondering if he was excluding Gayle too.

Also loved when he brought up the convention appearance by the mother whose son died at Benghazi and asked why the media didn’t show it. They said it WAS being shown on tv until his father called into Fox and the cameras switched to that. Lol. Trump hijacked his own convention because he can’t stand the attention to be on anyone else and then blames the media.

Pretty much nothing is going to turn the tide against this fascist. He has had absolutely loathsome viewpoints on just about every possible topic and had gleefully repeated them over and over and it has made zero difference the racist nutjobs following him around. If repeatedly slamming the family of a soldier slain in the service of this country, which is usually one of those things that flag wavers supposedly hold most sacred, isn’t going to do it nothing will. I guess you’re only a patriot if you have white skin. Although, given the treatment of POC soldiers during WWII, it is hardly surprising.

I actually find it bit more sickening that women continue to support him when he says stuff like this. Like, how much you hate yourself deep down when you agree with a man who basically tells you that if you’re being harassed, it’s your responsibility to remove yourself. Not the harasser’s job to STOP.

    • Red Snapper says:

It kind of reminds me of when that guy shot all those kindergarteners. Someone said if we can’t pass gun control after *this* then it will never happen.

If Trump can’t be shamed now, after all the shit he’s said, then what’s left? Literally, what has to happen for the tide to turn?

      • Tiffany :) says:

The bar is so low. But we set the bar. * It’s going to take a vocal effort to talk to people and make them realize what’s at stake. This has to become unacceptable. (*Thanks Southpark).

    • Shark Bait says:

Mental gymnastics. His ardent women supporters have convinced themselves that Hillary is an evil, corrupt communist and therefor Trump will be America’s savior from the equally (in their minds) corrupt, communist Obama. Even if (god willing) Hillary wins, we still have to live in the same country as these people.

    • Jwoolman says:

The media should ask high ranking military officers how they feel about non-whites and non-Christians deciding to stop volunteering for the military. What would that do to their recruitment numbers?

  15. littlemissnaughty says:

Oh stop, MSNBC, he’s not mentally ill. There are indeed human beings who are huge assholes. HUGE, disgusting aberrations of the human race. Trump is one of them. It’s his character and personality, not an illness. There is NO excuse.

Trump is a mentally ill @sshole. He can be both.

      • Erinn says:

I tend to believe just that, FB. I think the majority of it is assholery, but there is something else there as well.

      • Jwoolman says:

I think it’s safe to say that someone who punched a teacher at the age of seven because he thought he knew more about music than the teacher, and isn’t ashamed to tell the story as an adult, may have some problems that needed early intervention… He still had problems as a teenager or else he never would have been shipped off to military school. Rich people send their kids to schools where they can make contacts with other rich children that will be useful in future. They only send problem children that the schools won’t take to military school.

A lot of his friends & acquaintances though are saying there is something very wrong and especially in the last few weeks. I actually have a friend that worked with trump because he gives money to his charity, helped raise money for it and says its like he is a completely different person in the last few months. Its not just the Dems or the media. Mental illness can be brought out more when stress is high.

      • hmmm says:

He has a character/mental disorder (or ten). He is not ill in the way we normally understand it. He is a hardwired psychopath, a human anomaly and is not suffering like one would with major depression or schizophrenia, for example. I think of psychopaths as sub-human, because of the lack of conscience, a genetic defect.

He only seems crazy now because his psychopathy and narcissism are blooming in full. He’s been a successful psychopath so far, but his narcissism cannot abide the brickbats and that will be his downfall if people continue hammering at his ego. He still can’t get over comments about his small hands, LOL. He was okay until he came into the limelight. He’s not as canny as the little German guy.

I find this the oddest photo of a teenage daughter and father Ivanka and The Donald. I”m not saying anything was going on, just a little odd that way he always places his hand on her hip. I imagine she will always receive his attention more so than his wife and also as far as respect.

    • Taiss says:

Are Those birds having sex? The whole picture is so weird!

      • Jayna says:

She was only 15 years old in that photo. It is creepy.

And one of the times he said his daughter was hot and he would date her if she wasn’t his daughter, Ivanka was only 24 years old. It’s bad enough a father even saying that, but a 60-year-old father at the time somehow makes it even skeevier. It shouldn’t because any age father saying that is disgusting. But he’s a disgusting man.

But he also said this when she was only 20 or 21 talking about her body. Gross.

“Earlier in 2003 on The Howard Stern Show, Donald Trump was also bragging about his daughter’s hot body: “You know who’s one of the great beauties of the world, according to everybody? And I helped create her. Ivanka. My daughter, Ivanka. She’s 6 feet tall, she’s got the best body. She made a lot money as a model—a tremendous amount.”

But he hasn’t stopped. Then he goes and says this again just a year or two ago.

“At 69, he can still carry on like the teen who was yanked out of prep school and delivered to Col. Dobias, the take-no-shit instructor at the military academy. After I met Ivanka and praised her to her father, he said, “Yeah, she’s really something, and what a beauty, that one. If I weren’t happily married and, ya know, her father . . . ”

3 things that will bring down this creature – women, tax returns and Ivanka.

    1. Women make up half of the US population and 80% of them will never vote for him. He has insulted and mistreated them to a point that no woman with self respect will ever vote for him.

    2. He won’t release his tax returns because it will show two things – him not being rich as he claims while also show how he bought money from the Russian banks/Government. The tax returns will show how he is a traitor to the nation.

    3. This creature has a disgusting lust for his own daughter – he even admitted he would date her if she wasn’t his daughter, talked about her breasts etc. The democrats needs to put out tc commercials showing this and those white men who supports him will think twice about voting for a pedo pervert.

    • Barnes says:

The Ivanka Trump stuff has been talked about ad naseum and his supporters don’t care. I think they’d find a way to justify the tax returns or claim forgery or spin by the Dems/media. At this point I feel the only way he could lose his core following is if he made a direct and explicit verbal attack against xenophobic, unhyphenated Americans, who live below a certain pay range and hate “politically correct” speech.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Yes, I think the only thing that might harm him is if they found footage of him talking poorly about the middle class/working man/middle-America type person. Of course, they might be able to look around that too.

      • Esmom says:

Tiffany: “Of course, they might be able to look around that too.”

Of course they could. I said somewhere else that he could literally murder someone, as he’s said, and they’d find a way to rationalize it. And/or blame Hillary.

It’s funny how people seemed rational/reasonable enough in 2012 for Romney’s “47 percent” comment to really damage him. The criteria for what is or isn’t acceptable has clearly changed about a millionfold.

    • Jwoolman says:

      2. True, Trump has something to hide in those tax returns and his true income and the names of his creditors are likely factors. But getting loans from foreigners isn’t treason. It is just a difficult conflict of interest for a President, especially if he’s in hock as much as we think to Putin’s friends. His recent actions have been quite dubious from this standpoint, he does sound as though he is giving Putin the green light to mess with the neighbor’s regardless of NATO. Is that because that’s what The Donald really believes is ok, or is he maneuvering for better loan terms?

The Cold War is over, people, and trying to paint Russians as irredeemable demons again makes me uncomfortable. Putin is a danger to everybody, including the Russians, but so is Trump for that matter. I hope people don’t demonize us because of Trump. Focusing on ways to nonviolently alter behavior (such as with sanctions) is fine but let’s toss the ideology-based hatreds and apply the rules to everybody. Starting by not violating those rules ourselves would help (such as by completely repudiating the Monroe Doctrine).

      3. Yes, the body language between Trump and Ivanka is weird. She seems adept at moving discretely away from him. It would be sleazy to focus on it in the campaign, however, and likely to backfire anyway for all sorts of excellent reasons. Let’s stick to the high road and the issues, please.

      • Anastasiia says:

Unfortunately, the Cold War is not over. I’m so sure cos I live in the city, that is suffering from Russian military intervention. This proves again that some countries are still dangerous as they used to be.

      • Betsy says:

The Cold War is not over.

      • Nic919 says:

If he owes money to Russians, at what point does the FBI need to investigate because he would be a blackmail risk?

      • Jwoolman says:

I grew up with the Cold War here in the US and it drained us economically and spiritually. We were subjected to relentless propaganda to justify it. I’ve heard Americans say we should just kill all the Russians or the Vietnamese or whoever they are afraid of at the time. Seriously. When we hate, we hate big. And if they had gotten their way, all the other countries in the region would also be uninhabitable because the murder weapon of choice was nuclear weapons. Lots and lots and lots of them.

The Soviets were doing exactly what our government was and is doing to our neighbors. Just ask people in the Western Hemisphere. Evil is everywhere, and the sooner we realize that – the better equipped we will be to actually do something constructive about it. Dropping bombs and invading and occupying other countries and fighting wars by proxy and supporting dictators and death squads with our tax money has not solved anybody’s problems and on the contrary, has just made things worse. But realistically, in my country, our wars are typically fought to enrich a few and not to promote democracy and freedom. The politicians always claim that to rev up support for the waste of our taxes for mass murder and mayhem. But follow the money to understand the real reasons.

Other approaches to containing bad behavior are essential in today’s world. There would seriously have been nothing left to rebuild In Europe after WWII if today’s weapons had been available. Military solutions are obsolete because of the risks, not because everybody is nice and friendly. I know it’s tempting to think that if you just had more weapons, you could keep the bad guys out. But ultimately you are risking everything because the bad guys might have access to even more weapons. When the bad guys are a government, that is virtually certainly the case. Some alternatives to military approaches are external, such as sanctions. Others are internal, such as making yourselves ungovernable even though unarmed. The problems are complex and need complex solutions. I don’t expect people to give up their hopes for a military solution any time soon, but it really needs to be recognized as a very unreliable one.

Also Putin was elected and his dumber twin Trump might be, too. Hitler and Mussolini likewise. Maybe we need to pay more attention to why and work on it more from that angle. Here in the US, Trump didn’t create the bigotry and hatred and fears he and his followers spit out. He just inspired people to be more public about it. Economic uncertainty is probably the most important root cause here.

    • Wren33 says:

A while back I so someone analyze Trump’s attitude towards Ivanka and Tiffany, maybe on Jezebel. I don’t necessarily think he lusts after her/them, but he believes that calling a woman sexually attractive is the highest/only compliment he can give. Therefore he says things like “I would date her” in order to show how proud he is.

      • Erinn says:

I believe that. I also think that he views them as ‘better’ women because HE raised them. In his mind they are the product of his genius, and he has cultivated the traits he believes are desirable in them. Most parents are a tiny bit like that – they’ll raise their kid to have a great sense of humor, or to be exceptionally kind-hearted or whatever, but nothing to the degree that Trump is. He sees his kids as his projects, not as his children.

      • Tiffany :) says:

He’s what…99 years old?? Dementia has definitely started kicking in over a decade ago!!!

    • Kiliki says:

I think you’re more right than you realize.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Dementia of the Alzheimer’s type (or less commonly vascular dementia or dementia with Lewy bodies) is found to be present to some degree in half the people over 85 (or was it 80 LOL) … he’s far from that point however it doesn’t mean something could be starting early. Frontotemporal dementia would find him being even less inhibited and even less verbally adept but it would be more across the board in all his behaviour.

The fact that he’s been able to organize a campaign and show up everywhere he’s supposed to show up, this extension of his lifelong behavior as a bully and cheat, and the specific ideological focus of his rants, suggests that he’s sick in character not sick in the frontal lobes.

      • Kiliki says:

I believe it’s much more complicated than we understand.

My grandmother had early-onset dementia not long after she survived breast cancer (mentioned it on the Doherty thread) and ten years later she had full-blown Alzheimer’s. My fiancé’s mother was Dx’d with early onset dementia when she was only 55. She has nurses at her home round the clock, but it’s been 13 years of hell and pain for my man and his sisters. My paternal grandfather ALSO had Alzheimer’s. So much experience with all three of these (and now I see traits in my dad) and they were all so different.

You know what I believe? Trauma and depression play huge roles in the re-wiring and misfiring of our neural pathways. My family always acted like things were okay when they weren’t.

Talk it out. I have so much Alzheimer’s and breast cancer in my family I’m screwed. That’s why I talk about everything. If we don’t deal with our emotional pain and trauma, it WILL manifest in us physically.

  20. Anastasiia says:

American citizens! I’m begging You not to vote for this one. I’m Ukrainian and it means much more for me than You can imagine.

  21. Tiffany says:

I read another commenter on another site write that HRC should be at home with a glass of wine catching up on Netflix. It should not be this much work. I am inclined to agree.

Not releasing taxes, excuses for not debating. I mean, how many excuses will he have and worse, how many will his supporters continue to make for him.

    • SpunkyPR says:

The “not releasing taxes” is what truly amazes me since this guy has been shouting about Obama not being an American citizen and demanding to see his birth certificate. Yea Big D, you have a right to see Obama’s birth certificate but we don’t have a right to see your tax returns? Hmmm, something smells and it ain’t the spray on tan.

    • vauvert says:

Unfortunately it will be a hellish battle for HRC for two reasons:
Drumpf is counting on supporters who, like him, do not use logic in any way. Apparently the Dems “conspired” with the NFL and the Commission to schedule the debates on a football night, thus trying to hurt him in the debates. The number of asinine assumptions in that one statement is ridiculous, yet his supporters actually believe it and see it as another attempt by HRC to take down their homegrown hero.
The Republicans need to actually come out and disown him – but they won’t. McCain cannot stand there and say with a straight face “our candidate for the presidency does not represent my views or the views of the party”. Because guess what – he does. He absolutely does. As long as you support him and endorse him and don’t stand up to say what is clear to the rest of us, that he is an egomaniacal lunatic who shouldn’t be entrusted with a hot dog stand, much less the position of Commander in Chief… then you are as guilty as he is.

      • doofus says:

yeah, I made the same point.

if you’re endorsing him as your party’s candidate for the highest office in the US, they HE REPRESENTS YOUR PARTY. if he doesn’t rep your party, then, in no uncertain terms, denounce him and his candidacy and withdraw support.

      • Shark Bait says:

I know a few Trump supporters and they are lacking in logic. They think EVERYTHING is Hillary’s fault and a Dem conspiracy. And I mean EVERYTHING. His reaction to the Khans, him not releasing his tax returns, him trying to back out of the debates (the Gary Johnson supporters I know also think this is a conspiracy against Gary Johnson), the own words coming out of his mouth (lamestream media is twisting them Palin style). Seriously these people are deranged. And yes, unfortunately, a lot of them are women. I have a particularly vile fb friend (our kids did tumble bees together) that I have stayed friends with solely for entertainment purposes. She says women who “vote with their vagina” are ruining this country and that she doesn’t understand who any women could be a democrat because it is the party of evil and corruption.

      • Esmom says:

Shark Bait, I have an old classmate like that on FB. The day of the Sandy Hook shooting she put up a photo of herself with a pistol at a shooting range and more recently talked about how responsible she is with her AR-15. Guess who she supports. Makes my blood boil.

      • Jwoolman says:

About the football/debate conflict — it’s too bad that we don’t have ways to record such things as political debates for later viewing, or a way to see them later whenever we want – maybe using those newfangled computers and phones. Oh, wait….

  22. Vava says:

      • Tiffany says:

He already did. In the beginning when he called them ignorant. He said he loved talking to ignorant people and the crowd just cheered.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

People have been primed for decades to resent the educated elites (who controlled their lives), and the logical consequence of that is to celebrate ignorance. But it makes them easier to control, and he’s capitalizing on a trend.

      • Christin says:

Thanks for the information. I mostly ignored his earlier campaigning, because I never thought he would make it this far.

      • Shark Bait says:

I think it would have to be a recent secret recording of him calling his fan base stupid, ignorant, racist, xenophobes and that he was just using them to get elected. Maybe also saying he thought Hillary was a smart and capable woman. Of course some would say well it’s fake or it’s unethical but it would have to be something like that. I think he does really think that behind closed doors.

  25. HappyMom says:

You would think that the tide would turn, right? But I think the people who hate HRC (and there are a lot of them) just dig in their heels and continue to make excuses for him or feel like he is still the “lesser of 2 evils”. I am so sickened by the whole thing. I am an independent voter, I have friends on both the right and the left, and generally I can understand their stances and don’t feel super strongly. This time around I really am at the point where I am truly disgusted with anyone I know IRL who is willing to vote for this sociopath and I’ve distanced myself from friends who are going to vote for him.

  26. Scal says:

Yup because if the person who is harassing you is your boss it’s oh so easy to get another job. They are going to write you a glowing recommendation of course. And it’s super easy to get a new job these days! Just walk out anytime you want and they’ll be throwing them at you! /sarcasm

I like watching MSNBC’s Morning Joe a lot during elections. He’s a Republican, ex-Congressman, who has both sides on and interviews both sides of the aisle That’s wy I like it. Even when I hate some of the things he says, I will always remember how gracious he was the morning of Obama’s election and even emotional about acknowledging the historical significance of it. Compare that to Fox the morning after. LOL They were wigging out.

He liked Trump in the beginning, but has been on his back for quite a while, thinks he’s horrible for the Republican Party and won’t support him.

Anyway, he said this morning Trump won’t win, and he refuses to run a election the way it should be done to win. He said he knows someone very close to him who told Joe this weekend that Trump doesn’t want to lose, but he really doesn’t want to win and govern either. He would prefer to lose by half a percentage point and then say for the rest of his life the election was stolen from him. That person said, “That’s his dream scenario”, And here it’s happening, Trump has started telling his supporters the election is being rigged since Hillary has gone back up in the polls..

That’s why he would be a horrible public servant: he has no concept of a problem that has not happened to him or someone he loves. He only understands the problems of who he has served: himself.

Ugh as disgusting as he is I still blame the sane Republicans that still are endorsing him even as they condemn his rhetoric. I’m looking at you Paul Ryan, and John McCain.

  35. Mich says:

Lol at that video clip! For a man who has all the best words, Trump sure doesn’t use them too good.

    • Kiliki says:

He used to speak so differently. The man is LOSING it, I’m telling you.

      • Tiffany says:

I believe it was always there, but since he was not running for office, you could just laugh it off or ignore it.

      • Lostmymind says:

If you’ve ever seen the apprentice, you’d know that he’s never been an intelligent or eloquent speaker. His helpers were the better speakers.

      • Kiliki says:

YouTube his interviews from the 80s and 90s!!! “This Video Will Get Donald Trump Elected.”

He used to be very different, he spoke differently. I know what I’m saying. F The Apprentice. I’m talking about the real Donald Trump. He’s a different man today. He’s awful today. Shameless and sick.

      • Lostmymind says:

I watched the first 9 minutes of that video. The only difference between then and now is he is the volume and level of restraint. Same message, same verbiage, same lack of detail, same narcissism, winning.
I believe he’s only intelligent in a very narrow scope of business. You can tel he was groomed to be a CEO of a real estate company and that’s it. Not that there’s anything wrong with that per se, but not running for president combined with his personality.

    • Raven says:

Actual headline this morning, real quote:

“Trump blasts New York Times: ‘They don’t write good’”

(Correct word would be “well”. “Good” is very poor grammar.)

      • Mich says:

You should watch the video clip. It is about him repeatedly using “good” instead of “well”. It then shows the Derek Zoolander ad for the “Center For Kids Who Can’t Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too”. Too funny!

  36. Lambda says:

Not the first time Trump has defended a sexual predator. When Mike Tyson was facing rape accusations, Trump stood by him. It was the first time in his life that his adoring mom yelled at him, much to Trump’s surprise. But the cherry is his defense of Jeffrey Epstein, pedophile and level-3 registered sex offender: he’s a wonderful guy, you can have so much fun with him, he likes his women on the young side (such as 13 and 14).

  37. Brittney B. says:

That MSNBC clip just inspired the first bit of joy I’ve derived from this idiot’s campaign.

So funny. And now back to trembling in fear.

  38. Lilacflowers says:

There is a legal term for what Trump thinks a woman should do when faced with sexual harassment: “constructive discharge”. If the woman proves it in court, the employer loses and has to pay, usually quite a bit.

  40. Curtis says:

Here is what the Republican’s like about him: In past elections, when Romney or McCain were attacked, they cowered. Trump won’t. You don’t have to like him, but since he has been running, he has been consistent and he is an outsider and paying for most of his own campaign. You probably don’t agree with anything he says, but is there any doubt he actually believes what he says? Whereas you have Hillary who has changed her stance on so many things over the years depending on who is giving to her Super Pac. Most people voting for Trump are tired of being pushed around by bullies who won’t let them speak because it is conservative.

I respect a man who will put his own money where his mouth is. Does Trump need to run? No. He could have stayed in the business world and continued making money. He has brought businesses back from the brink of disaster and Hillary has no experience with business. She can’t show one reason why she would make America better than it is today.

    • Lilacflowers says:

The government of the United States is NOT a business. Trump runs businesses into the ground; the US cannot file for bankruptcy protection.

I am really tired of hearing conservatives whine that they aren’t allowed to speak, especially when I cannot recall them ever being silent on any issue. Unless you are equating bigoted statements with being conservative? I would like to believe there is a difference still.

      • SusanneToo says:

That’s true. Just watch Bill Maher’s show. It’s always the conservatives who are bellowing loudly refusing to let anyone get a word in edgewise.

    • Tina says:

Trump isn’t successful in business and he hasn’t brought any businesses back from the brink of disaster. He’s good at one thing – licensing his brand. That’s what keeps him going. He won’t release his tax returns because they will show that he doesn’t make what he says he makes and he isn’t worth what he says he’s worth. And I don’t think he believes what he says because he doesn’t even remember what he says from one moment to the next.

      • B n A fn says:

Thank you @Tina. DT is good at selling his brand and robbing hard working people of their hard earned cash. As mayor Bloomberg said, he’s a con man and is insane. Yesterday one of his tv talking head said he has had seven, (7), not six bankruptcies. I was shocked when he corrected the other panel member to say 7 bankrupties. Yesterday, warren Buffett sad he has never met anyone who has had seven bankruptcies. WB is about a hundred times richer than DT and he runs one of the most successful business without filing bankruptcies.

DT has stole money from people right and left, it is too man to mentioned all the people he has fond and all the business he ran into the ground. Now he start to pave the way for when he loses come November by saying we have a rigged system. Donald trump is pitiful. The entire family are con artists in pretty clothing. The wife lies about her education and told a bold face lie that she wrote he convention speech with just a little help. Now she is in the ny post nude. I bet if it was MOB was in her birthday suite on the front page of the NY P the trump contingent would be screaming bloody murder about what a disgrace she is. I have not read one word from DT about his plastic wife.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

The number one reason DT would make a terrible president: Supporters with opinions like yours.

    • Sadezilla says:

What is this “consistency” you speak of? Remember when Trump said women should be prosecuted for abortion, then backpedaled? Or said the US should ban Muslim immigrants, then backpedaled? Not to mention that he has no concrete policies, much less feasible concrete policies to speak of. You’re deluding yourself.

      • Keaton says:

        Thank you @Sadezilla
Trump has shown ZERO consistency on the issues. He’s taken every stand he could. This is the type of thing that killed Romney and John Kerry but for some bizarre reason Trump’s supporters act like he’s a consistent ideological issue driven true believer like Cruz or Bernie Sanders. Bloomberg was so right – Trump is a conman. It doesn’t take much research to see the guy has changed positions on multiple issues and lies as if he’s breathing – e.g., the NFL sent him a letter huh. And Hillary gets the liar tag. Amazing.

    • G says:

Ah, Curtis. I was wondering when you would show up again.
Nothing will convince you to change your mind. It’s always you throwing some other Dem under the bus because they made Trump do it or they twisted his words. No accountability is needed for you. You are so predictable, honestly. I’m sure you’re a troll but boy do you hurt yourself with your comments. Go find a different site to troll.

    • Tiffany :) says:

He has not been consistent. He flip flops on issues left and right. For example: banning Muslims. He has said so many variations. In some he is banning them from entering the country. In other versions, he is looking into what can be done. In some versions, he doesn’t want to ban them, but he wants a database. In some versions, the database is ALL muslims (including US citizens) and in others it is just international travelers to the US or refugees. He is NOT consistent.

What good is someone believing what they are saying (in that moment) if what they are saying IS NOT BASED ON FACT? Anyone can spout an unsubstantiated opinion. That is not an accomplishment.

    • Jwoolman says:

Curtis- no, Trump is not paying for his own campaign. He just keeps saying that, but it isn’t true if you examine the facts.

Trump has personally donated about $250,000 (sounds like a legal limit). He has LOANED millions to his campaign and is getting repaid through donations and the Republican Party. I assume those were not interest-free loans. Plus he has been assigning his personal expenses (and his family’s) as campaign expenses to be reimbursed. His kids are on the campaign payroll.

Trump has no intention of not making money on this campaign. He even promoted some of his business ventures within a convention speech, sounding like an infomercial. He had a display table set up to represent those ventures. He has also made sure to have as many campaign events as possible occur at venues that add to his own personal profit. Really, he is definitely not paying his own way in this campaign.

  41. daisy says:

I’ve had to leave a few jobs because I was being harassed. When you’re the new kid on the block there’s not much else you can do. I’m not the type to put up with that type of thing for long and don’t understand how women do, then turn around after years and make a case against it. It’s not worth my peace of mind or mental health. We all have a choice, if you choose to stay then it’s on you.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Legally, it is on and should be on the employer.

      • daisy says:

It is messed up because it’s not something you can explain in an interview because then you are labeled a troublemaker. Saying the company culture wasn’t right for you is about all you can say. Women who have office romances and screw around at work are partially responsible for this behavior. We live in a double-edged sword world.

      • Sam says:

Jesus, no. You mean to tell me you can’t tell the difference between sexual harassment and an office romance? Here’s a big hint: one of them is CONSENSUAL between two people and one is NOT. See how easy that was?

A woman having a workplace romance or affair is NOT a license to harass her. Full stop. Please shut up with this “responsible for this behavior” crap. No, no, no. Sexual harassment is NOT related to anything consensual going on. It is not hard to avoid sexually harassing somebody.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Excuse me? No, women having workplace affairs are NOT responsible for sexual harassment in the workplace. They are two very separate issues.

      • daisy says:

Women looking to get ahead in their career use whatever they can to get there, think about it. Yes, women sleep or flirt with the boss to get ahead (no pun intended). This is not a new concept. I suspect people who defend this position have dabbled in that kind of behavior. It makes it difficult for women who are just trying to work and pay their bills without having to resort to game playing. Men who have been treated this way, put on a pedestal to gain favor, come to expect this treatment, thus the sickening cycle of harassment.

      • Natalie says:

I don’t care if a 10 women slept with a manager, he is not entitled to assume he can harass the 11th woman.

Men are not stupid; they understand when it’s appropriate to approach a woman and when it’s not. If a man is harassing his coworker or employee, it’s because the unwillingness of the victim is a major part of the allure. Emotionally healthy men don’t target women who don’t want them.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Daisy, your arguments are identical to those who opposed making laws against sexual harassment. Men who have never held jobs before sexual harass their co-workers. Workplaces that never hired women before have subjected them to sexual harassment so your prior history of workplace sex argument is irrelevant and frankly quite disturbing. You are blaming women for the illegal treatment they experience.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Many women don’t have a choice. This is the equivalent to telling women to shut up and take “their” problems somewhere else. It’s not the woman’s problem; it’s the employer’s problem for creating a hostile workplace.

If the onus is on women to somehow magically keep job-hopping, which by the way looks terrible on a resume and kills the ability to get good references, then by extension it’s okay for workplaces to be hostile to women. Which, until laws were put in place, they were. And all too often still often are.

Hope the harassment ends for you, but at some point you might consider fighting back. Employers hate lawsuits and exposure even more than they hate having to educate and safeguard their employees.

      • daisy says:

Putting up with harassment for years then finally speaking up about it from my POV is insane. It really is easier to leave than to fight a system that’s in place or tolerate it because I need a job. I value my health above all else and tolerating abusive behavior by anyone would make me physically ill. Harassment isn’t just with men either. It’s interesting how during the interview process the men want to hire me then I meet with the women in the company and never hear back. Or getting the job and having to deal with snide women bitter in their lives. I have a positive outlook regardless of what I’ve been through and some people have issues with this. Nothing I can do about that. I’m professional, present myself well, a hard worker, stay out of people’s business but nevertheless, when the harassment starts it’s time to move on. I’m not a fighter. I don’t have the mental capacity to deal with bullsh!t. We all have choices whether we choose to act on them or not. I am not a victim and will not play one. I’ve started a non-profit (for the ocean) and someday will be self-sufficient enough to work for myself. As it should be. : )

      • daisy says:

If the employer is a one man show you cannot win and it’s best to move on. The corporate world is different. There are systems in place and enough people to shield you from a harasser, for awhile anyway. I’ve never worked in the corporate world but again it comes down to how much do you value your mental health? The news anchor that waited until she was being let go (for ageism reasons?) then decides to get even and expose the toad that had been harassing numerous other women, too. Maybe had the creep been exposed sooner other women would have been spared his sick behavior. Hanging in there for a paycheck is not honorable, noble or desirable from my standpoint.

  42. Insomniac says:

“You probably don’t agree with anything he says, but is there any doubt he actually believes what he says?”

Yes, I think there’s a lot of doubt, seeing as he changes positions and stories all. the. time.

    • Esmom says:

Agreed. He just seems to say whatever pops into his head at any given moment. It’s hard to discern exactly what he does believe in, if anything, other than his own hype.

  43. Jayna says:

Three-term Republican Congressman Richard Hanna announces he is voting for HIllary Clinton. He says Trump is unfit to lead this country and serve their party. Woo-hoo.

    Excerpt:

“I trust she can lead. All Republicans may not like the direction, but they can live to win or lose another day with a real candidate,” he wrote. “Our response to the public’s anger and the need to rebuild requires complex solutions, experience, knowledge and balance. Not bumper sticker slogans that pander to our disappointment, fear and hate.”

“Hanna may not be the last high-ranking Republican official to cross party lines come November. Sally Bradshaw, who was a long-time adviser to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), announced last week that she was leaving the GOP ― and may even vote for Clinton if the race in Florida is close. One of the Senate’s most moderate Republicans, Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), also said it was possible she may vote for Clinton. Richard Armitage, the deputy secretary of state under former president George W. Bush, announced he would vote for Clinton last month.”

    • Sam says:

That takes serious guts in this climate. It also takes patriotism. It means they care more for the health of the nation than their own party.

My husband kind of had a breakthrough last night. He’s a Republican who voted for McCain in 2008 and Romney in 2012. But last night, he said, “I could vote for them because I felt safe doing so, because regardless of who won – Obama, Romney – we’d be alright. Either of them would be able to competently lead the country. You don’t have to agree with them to believe either one could handle the office.” But then he pointed out that Trump “is just not competent.” He genuinely believes that Trump will do irreparable harm to the country in a way that we might not recover from. So he’s voting for Clinton. My husband is a really bright guy who knows his stuff – if he feels that way, I trust him 100% and it scares me that others can’t see (or refuse to see) what he does.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Hanna’s retiring – it didn’t take guts for him professionally, but it likely took guts personally.

It could be that Trump loses people vote by vote this way, but I do think his hard core will remain his hard core. There is a sizable minority of Americans frighteningly comfortable with bigotry of all kind, violence against targeted groups, and the kinds of ignorance that could upset the world order in a cataclysmic way.

  44. Pandy says:

I think the boiled turnip might be suffering from early stage dementia or Alzheimers. He’s at that age.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

He’s always been a swine, a bully, a cheat and a sexist, racist pig.

As for the quality of his thought and any deterioration in verbal ability, some professional is bound to come along an analyze video from 20 years ago compared to now. That’ll be interesting.

    • Christin says:

The answer could be more simplistic. Take a spoiled brat in an adult body, who has courted fame via TV, tabloid and other random headlines for decades.

Place said adult brat in a huge, nonstop spotlight, with the entire public watching for once. However, the now aged brat is out of his comfort zone, and not used to having to know or explain complex topics. He’s also not accustomed to have such an array of people publicly disagree with him nearly every day. He’s probably working harder than he ever has in his life. He’s finally being held accountable for behavior.

It’s a recipe for disaster, considering a grown brat likely has few coping skills.

  45. sequinedheart says:

I’m not sure if I read this on here yesterday or another site but someone mentioned he may be doing this to sabotage his own efforts because he never actually intended to get this far.
I think this could be a good point and I am hoping hard that this is true…

    • Sam says:

If John Kasich can be believed (and I do believe him) Trump has no intention of actually governing and is going to leave it all to the VP. So basically, we’re voting for President Pence. Which is not much better at all!

    • Who ARE these people? says:

We can’t wait for him to self-sabotage because his actions are just so abhorrent. We have to actively aid his downfall.

  46. mini says:

I.just.can’t.

    • Christin says:

Though we can always hope, I seriously doubt DT will exit public life, though, because he seems to thrive on being talked about. I think this was more than he bargained for and is fraying his already bursting seams.

  54. EM says:

There are valid points made. If they have written books and haven’t mentioned harassment or the contrary to harassment (ie a positive work atmosphere), to then go on to make accusations about harassment, one can only wonder about the credibility of the accusers.
In the quote pasted in this post, the writer mentions the investigation and then in the last sentence has made a definitive accusation. To me, that lacks credibility.
What we should be really talking about is how Trump has targeted one family and used them as a scapegoat.

    • Jwoolman says:

I never told anybody about various harassment episodes I experienced in grad school. The people involved could do real damage to my work then and later. Besides, it all happened in private and so nobody would believe me. Except the female secretaries, who had the same problems with one of the guys. I discovered that when we were all talking in the hallway and he walked past, and a usually very nice woman casually mentioned what she wished she could do to him and the rest nodded their heads (hint: every man’s nightmare). I finally got to the point where I persuaded another guy in the research group to take my designs to the fellow (he was the machinist; others were on faculty/staff) but didn’t tell him why. I think he had some idea, though, since the guy was more openly obnoxious than most. When Anita Hill testified about her boss Clarence Thomas, everything she said and did rang true to me. In a situation like that, you try to act as though everything is fine because you’re the only one who will be hurt if you don’t. You still have to pretend to be okay with the guy. Anita Hill was able to finally speak freely because she had tenure where she was teaching, but some senator in her state still tried to get her fired over it.

I remember feeling very angry about such situations and the need for silence. I promised myself that I would try never to be in such a situation again. The only way I actually was able to keep that promise, to be honest, was to become self-employed… It’s that bad everywhere.

  55. Citresse says:

Trump, deep down, doesn’t want to be President. I wrote it months ago here on CB when I stated he appeared tired and I had the feeling his son Barron was/is missing him. The thing is- Trump’s all caught up and on a giant ego trip.
Change would be nice. If only I believed Clinton or any other politician from any other country could provide real change, I’d be hopeful.

    • Tina says:

Real talk. The advantage the US had in the 50s and 60s was because the US was physically untouched by WWII and was miles ahead in terms of manufacturing. That advantage lasted through the 90s, because Germany was divided and it took Asia that long to rebuild.

That advantage is gone, and it’s never coming back. Those good jobs that required only a high school education, had pensions and supported families – they’re gone forever. We all have to compete globally now. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.

Who’s with me if you think Ivanka is playing political chess, tolerating her borderline mentally challenged and evil daddy, supporting his lotus only to wait until he either fails or is miraculously President. In one scenario, should Orange fail, she will wait a beat and write a book describing her personal misgivings she couldn’t state at the time. She will say she grew and learned soooo much and has found her voice. Second scenario, she will use her father to further her political career, her husband included, should Trump do well which would be LOL. She will say she is the younger voice and speaks to a new generation from experience. Lastly, if Trump (if Satan is fully on that day) IS elected Prez but does the inevitably horrific job, see first scenario. Either way, Ivanka IS her father’s daughter. She will eat the organs of those in her way. She is supporting Trump to secure his voters and eventually take over to gain her own. In fact, she probably hates him. That’s most likely why she refuses to date him.
