Clint Eastwood: Khizr Khan is ‘some poor slob’ being ‘exploited’ by Democrats

wenn22563431

Fresh off of his absolutely idiotic Esquire interview, Clint Eastwood has more words. Bad words. Words that absolutely need to stop. Clint was stopped by a TMZ videographer somewhere in LA this week. It looked like Clint and a lady friend were exiting a restaurant, I guess. Clint rolled down his window and chatted with the TMZ guy in what seemed like TMZ’s genuine stab at investigative journalism. TMZ asked Clint about the Khan family, the gold-star family of a solider that died in combat in Iraq in 2004. Khizr Khan, the father, gave the best speech of the DNC last week, and ever since then, Donald Trump, Trump’s surrogates and the worst of conservative media have been insulting, denigrating and misrepresenting the Khan family. So what does Clint think about all of that?

TMZ: What do you think of Trump getting into it with the Khan family, the slain veteran’s family?

Eastwood: “Ah… I don’t know, I know nothing about it. I think he made a mistake by making fun of the guy’s dead son but, you know, that’s his business.”

TMZ: Do you think Trump should stop saying inflammatory things, or is it a bad thing to be too PC?

Eastwood: “I think it is bad to be too PC, but I think there is a limit. You don’t have to be rude to somebody. But also, the other guy was being exploited by a political party. That’s no good either. Whether either party does it, exploitation, they shouldn’t take advantage of some poor slob.”

[Transcribed from video]

“Some poor slob” = the father of a slain American soldier. “The other guy was being exploited by a political party” = the Clinton campaign asked Khizr Khan, a Harvard-educated immigration lawyer, if he’d like to speak at the DNC about his late son, and Mr. Khan agreed. “I think he made a mistake by making fun of the guy’s dead son but, you know, that’s his business.” I DISAGREE. When a political candidate for the highest office in the land decides to go after a private citizen and a GOLD STAR FAMILY, it’s not just “his business.”

  1. EM says:

There is no justification of Trump’s behaviour with respect to the Khan family. Eastwood is an idiot.

  2. HH says:

This is what I meant the other day by Trump’s support being locked in. Sure people will fall off here and there. But, my God, his supporters are this desperate and dumb.

    • MsGoblin says:

      … and hate-filled.

      • Justjj says:

Somebody has a dirty grandpa diaper. Who would be willing to be Clint Eastwood’s lady friend? Could you imagine? The catheters, the Crown Royal, the Rolos breath. Yuck. I mean he’s only got a few years left at best to spew his bigoted rhetoric, so at least we can keep that mind.

      • ExistingisExhausting says:

Don’t bring Rolos into this! They don’t deserve that!

      • Liz says:

Clint is a nasty, seething, angry, crusty man. I have absolute zero respect for him. I will never pay or watch any movie he’s associated with. He’s a racist, bigoted, misogynist ass.

  3. grabbyhands says:

I would say I’m speechless, but that would infer that I’m shocked or surprised by the bile spewed by Trump supporters and I passed that mile marker AGES ago.

It DOES get more frightening to see how many people are comfortable with his brand of fascism.

    • Plewas says:

A nd it’s rich this guy thinks Khan is somehow being exploited even though he’s Harvard educated and piercing in his arguments against trump to the point of overshadowing every other speaker including two presidents—- yet somehow thinks he was a legit contributor for talking to an empty chair like a senile old turd.He was the laughing stock of the country! But yeah, Khan is the poor slob, not him….

  4. Barrett says:

Very poor choice of words. Trump should shut up. Democrats I don’t trust either. I just feel bad for the Khans and there son is a hero.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Democrats tend to be responsible for stronger economies and a stronger social safety net, at least when they also have the Senate and some of the House, so please don’t make them equal to what the Republican party has become in the recent past.

  5. It'sJustBlanche says:

Someone should tell this guy that he only played macho characters in the movies. Otherwise he’s just an old Guy with waning testosterone and a penis that hasn’t worked in years. He just needs to sit down, have a bowl of oatmeal, and ready for bingo.

  6. cr says:

Racist old man continues yelling at clouds.

    • Liz says:

I’m sure Clint is not aware Khan is a Harvard educated lawyer. He probably heard his name and assumed he was a poor, uneducated man. This false assumption is very common amongst bigots.

  7. NewWester says:

    Chair: Mr.Eastwood
    Clint: Yes?
Chair: Please, have a seat and shut up!

  8. kittenhotel says:

Clint really does deserve a second of thought.

    • Arock says:

My first thought was omg Clint Eastwood is a dickwhistle, my second thought was he’s a huge dickwhistle.
Congratulations on outing yourself as a bigot who has been deluded by character roles to believe you’re a bigger hard ass than you are, you ancient prick. (….There, I feel better, gotta get it out)
The idea of celebrities commenting on this stuff always seems to blow up in their face…you’d think they’d just say no comment and move along.

    • zinjojo says:

Whhhaaaat? Deserves a second of thought? For what, may I ask? To contemplate his racist, stupid statements? To reflect deeply on all of the idiotic things he’s said over the past years as well as his increasingly deranged recent statements? Don’t think I need to stop and think about any of that for too long at all since it’s quite clear what he means.

  9. tifzlan says:

Funny. Khizr Khan can’t get up on stage to talk about the grief of losing his son without being called a sell out and a secret terrorist, or that he’s being exploited by Democrats but Marcus Luttrell and Chris Kyle are heroes through and through.

I couldn’t even leave a comment on the video of Luttrell’s speech at the RNC, saying how what he said about the world being a dark place was absolutely wrong and terrible, without someone telling me to pipe down and “respect this Marine.” Chris Kyle is hero-worshipped on a whole other level despite his disgusting racist, murderous views of the world and his job. But the Khans are secret terrorists. OF COURSE. Of course.

Muslims, black people, brown people – sacrifice yourselves for your country and that STILL won’t be good enough.

The Republicans who are just now upset that Trump is disrespecting a Gold Star family who are Muslims instead of the many other times he was disrespectful to Muslims (amongst others) are no better.

I see right through all of you!

  10. Tate says:

I am sure Mr. Kahn cares deeply about Clints opinion. Simmer down old man.

    • mkyarwood says:

Somebody get Pepaw his ear horn!

      • Kitten says:

        LOL

I feel like this is one of those rare instances when ageism should not only be accepted, but embraced.
I just cannot stand this guy.

      • Olenna says:

        Ha!

      • Tate says:

@kitten I felt bad about the ageism in my post for a split second but then I was all…. Screw it… Eastwood sucks!! 😬

      • Who ARE these people? says:

I usually go after ageism myself, so I guess it depends if Eastwood was always this vile or whether age has locked his mind in a really unfortunate place.

  11. LA says:

ugh. This is just so disappointing. the treatment that the Khans have received is so soul crushing.

    • EM says:

Not to mention embarrassing on a global level as a reflection on American politics.

      • sarah says:

@ EM : Amen. It makes the US look absurd to other countries. This is what is getting the play outside of the US – the ridiculing a dead soldier’s immigrant success story father and mother.

    • Annetommy says:

It’s been very revealing. But it has helped to underline the sheer nastiness of Trump and his supporters, so while very hurtful to the Khans, it has had an effect that will hopefully have a positive outcome.

    • Tiffany :) says:

It really is depressing. At the same time, Mr. Khan has been hitting back with such strong points, I am glad they are giving more attention to this wise man. In trying to defeat Mr. Khan’s argument, they actually gave it a bigger platform and a bigger spotlight.

  12. littlemissnaughty says:

Who the f*ck does he think he is? I think you’re confused who you are, Clin. An actor. Talking sh*t about a highly educated man whose son died for his country. Shut the f*ck up. And btw, WHO was talking to a chair??? I’m sure NO actor would let himself be exploited by a political party, no no. They’re too smart. Talking to chairs. But that dumb lawyer doesn’t know jack sh*t. What an asshole.

And btw, PC doesn’t exist. It’s called basic human decency.

    • HH says:

      CLAPS and SNAPS!!

    • greenmonster says:

Slow clap! And did I hear a mic drop?

    • Luca76 says:

      Standing ovation for that one.

    • Lisa says:

Thank you, little miss. The Khans and their son made the same sacrifices that any other Gold Star family has had to make. It’s sickening that they have been singled out as less deserving of respect because of their religious beliefs. Trump (and his worshippers)i are a**es for thinking otherwise and Clint needs to STFU. What has Clint or his family ever sacrificed? He’s a bloody actor!!!!

    • Emily says:

I need a praise-hands emoji for this. WHO was exploited by a political party and made to look like a dumb (much worse than poor, in my opinion) slob? If forced to choose I’d say the doddering old man who talked to a chair.

    • Thaisajs says:

      Bravo!

  13. Nina says:

i wish he would shut up already… i used to like his movies so much but now the sight of him pisses me off

    • Emily says:

I was saying the opposite thing about Bradley Cooper after his appearance at the DNC when republicans were so upset that he wasn’t the real Chris Kyle. I didn’t really feel one way or the other about him before, but now I think I’ll see all his movies just to stick it to those people somehow.

I feel the opposite about Eastwood. I don’t need to see any of his work, ever.

  14. leigh says:

    Take a seat granddad.

  15. Tiffany says:

Poor slob. Yeah Clint, every Middle Eastern in America works at a convenient store. You Dick.

    • Anahit says:

And even if they did they’re not slobs. As a daughter of convenience store workers, that life is a hard working one. I know you didn’t mean it that way, but still.

      • Tiffany says:

i am sorry, I was trying to word it as to what he meant. I would never question the hard work and long hours that goes into running your own business.

  16. Tash says:

Ah yes, because Harvard-educated lawyers are so easily swayed. Just stfu Clint.

    • Jwoolman says:

Especially the lawyers who actually deal with immigration law.

Honestly, these people. They see “brown” and “traditional dress” and can’t even imagine they are looking at two professionals who know much more about the subject than they do (or Trump does), in addition to their personal experience as grieving parents.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

You hit the nail on the head. Being brown has managed to eliminat nearly everything unique about the Kahn’s including their Gold Star Family status, it is both sad and incredibly telling.

    • Clare says:

Well apparently this Harvard educated lawyer is a ‘poor slob’. what more is there to say?

  17. Zan says:

“Some poor slob” is not at all what comes to my mind when I hear and see Khizr Khan speaking of his son. Wow. And I thought that Esquire interview was bad. But I’m one of the people Clint complains about–too “PC” –cuz I think people should treat one another with some level of decency. Silly me.

  18. greenmonster says:

Dear 2016, we had issues so far – you know David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Prince… I mean, I don’t want to instigate or anything, but you missed a few people. We could be friends again then.

Sorry, just kidding, I don’t wish death on anyone. I just get very frustrated with old white, privileged men who get butthurt because they can’t run their foul mouths any longer without being called out on that. Then other old white, privileged men run to their rescue, because this “p*ssy generation” is just a whiny bunch. Aren’t we, Clint?
Oh it was a much better time when you and your buddies could make racist and misogynist jokes and laugh and laugh. Can’t we just go all go back to those days? Clint Eastwood would feel so much better and be a happy man, I guess.

  19. Talie says:

    Poor slob?

    Go f*ck yourself, Clint.

  20. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Proof that we should have stuck to letting Clint babble to empty chairs.

How many guesses that he’s fuming because he knows in a war of words Kahn would so badly disgrace and intellectually run circles around him that all he’d have left to do is whimper.

God I just want him to shut the hell up, that’s it, I don’t see any room for anything else from a discussion with this excuse for a human being.

  21. Eastwood is just another uneducated white man who got lucky.

    • Relli says:

I see what you did there 🙂

    • Plewas says:

Who got lucky but thinks he earned everything on his own and with the sheer force if individualism- just like all the those cowboy and injun movies he played in- and we know who clint thinks should be playing the poor slob injun!!!

  22. Jess says:

Holy fudge. Clint is way worse than I thought. Disgusting.

  23. lilacflowers says:

So, by Clint’s standard, Donald Trump exploited Patricia Smith when he put her on stage at the RNC to rail incoherently about the death of her son in Benghazi at the hands of the evil Crooked Hillary. Good to know.

And just to be sure we know where we are standing, Clint, the Khan’s speech addressed BIGOTRY, excluding and vilifying a group of people based upon their religion, you know, that un-PC stuff you love so much.

  24. barb says:

This just in: 90 Year Old Man A Racist!

I don’t know why everyone’s shocked by any of this – the guy was born in the 30s. Billie Holiday didn’t record Strange Fruit until he was 9 #perspective

    • Birdix says:

He lived through the civil rights movement (and was young then). Age doesn’t excuse him.

    • Annetommy says:

And not all elderly people are racists. Clint was like this when he was younger too.

      • jc126 says:

Thank you annetommy. I get so irritated by the slams against older people (it’s always “old white people”, too) , because I know elderly people who aren’t Neanderthal in their thinking, but it’s okay to make comments about being eager for them to all die.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Our elders – we’re white – are in their 90s and not racist. One thinks Obama will go down as “one of the great ones.” Another sounded like Archie Bunker 40 years ago but kept an open mind and loves Obama. We know so many older people who lived through the Great Depression, World War II and the Holocaust and they just want to see the world get better again before they die.

    • Christin says:

Age is a gift, to allow us time to grow and become wiser, kinder.

Some don’t use that gift for that purpose, even when they’ve been given more than 80 years to do so.

  25. embertine says:

Angry Racist Grandpa needs to sit down and get back to yelling at those damn kids from his porch chair, but I think he does have a tiny glimmering of a point: I am sure the DNC put the Khans up there knowing that Trump would no more be able to resist insulting them than a cat could resist pouncing on a feather.

However, I don’t believe there’s any exploitation – I suspect the Khans knew exactly what reaction they would get from Tangerine Mussolini, and were all “COME AT ME BRO”. Eastwood is just tacitly acknowledging that the entire world knows Trump has no decency or self-control.

    • noway says:

Oh come on, I don’t think the DNC really thought the Khan’s would be the one he went after. You have to be an idiot to go after a man who lost a decorated Marine son in the military when the Republican’s were in charge of the White House, especially since there were some great people for him to go after. Bloomberg for example, he just inferred he would like to hit him, but he never went after him hard or directly. Just shows how wimpy the Donald really is. Get a man who can by most accounts buy him out by at least ten times over and the Donald doesn’t do that much.

As far as Eastwood is concerned he should never use the word slob, unless he is referring to himself. Come on numerous times Eastwood has looked like a rich slob. Reminds me of his almost homeless look he was sporting for a while. He is just sad, and woefully living in the past, and not in any good way. Now I guess he has to dress up for the lady friends, hope the lady friend remembers the homeless slob look he sports if she ends up with him and the fact she may have to listen to his drivel.

      • embertine says:

“You have to be an idiot”

        Well… yes.

      • kanyekardashian says:

The fact that he has “lady friends” is just sad. What self-respecting woman would open her legs for a Republican man? Ewww.

  26. B n A fn says:

    Clint Eastwood, , SIGH!

    What a pig.

  27. Pedro45 says:

“I think he made a mistake in making fun of some guy’s dead son, but that’s his business.”

That comment is breathtaking in its callousness. I would say, what if it had been one of Clint’ s children, but we know how he feels about fatherhood.

  28. eggy weggs says:

If Clint Eastwood is happy to ruin his own legacy, and if his family is cool to let him run around and do it, that’s his business.

When the presidential candidate for one of two major political parties goes after a private citizen of note using vicious, meritless attacks based on prejudice, it’s everyone’s business.

  29. LinaLamont says:

    “poor slob”

Eastwood is more despicable than Trump. And, that’s a tough accomplishment to achieve.

    • Guesto says:

I’d say just as despicable. You only have to look at what Trump says in public to imagine the putrid depths he plunges to in private.

On the plus side, as someone who never understood his appeal, I’m glad that Eastwood is revealing himself and leaving no one in any doubt about who and what he is.

  30. Mariyah says:

I just dont understand how Eastwood can make these intelligent, moving and humanistic movies (Million dollar baby, Mystic river) and be so completely ignorant and close minded. Really disappointed.

    • manta says:

I wrote the same thing in the last thread about him. The guy directed a powerful biopic about Charlie Parker, a musician whose life was plagued with racism (and other things). He also made True Crime, a film I suspect the far right didn’t acclaim. Josey Wales was one of the first westerns with Native Americans actually playing in Navajo ( a big deal at the time). You’d think he made some research at the time of Invictus for exemple.
I wonder what was the atmosphere on some of his sets. I mean Mystic River had Penn, Robbins or Fishburne. It’s safe to say he’s not on speaking terms with Whitaker nowadays.
And how a man so versed into jazz could not understand the plague that racism is truly baffles me.
And isn’t his son Kyle married to a woman named Cynthia Ramirez? They must have delightful family reunions.

  31. trollontheloose says:

they made a movie about a sniper that wrote a book (even though lots of what he wrote were not really true), and the RNC got angry because bradley Cooper was at the DNC. Heaven forbid a muslim family wants to just have a platform to promotes fairness to Muslim soldiers. Like the BLM (it’s not only black lives matter but black lives matter too).. as muslim myself I know where the Khan are coming from: they have a voice. A unique choice to go there and say we are american and then muslim, so don’t forget that in the field of the departed lies the very person you wish to ban entry.

  32. pikawho? says:

I know I’m going to hell, but I’m so glad he’s at the end of his life.

Take your hate with you when you go, Clint.

  33. Margo S. says:

Does he have dementia?! DOES HE THINK IT’S THE 1950s?! What in the hell is wrong with Clint?! He IS your crazy old racist drunk Uncle. That is Clint in a nutshell. Shut up you old bag!

  34. Ariel says:

Just turn down pappy’s hearing aid and stop asking his opinion.

  35. Tiffany says:

And to think Tom Hanks has to follow up with this crap. The studio has to be pissed.

  36. Citresse says:

Clint’s voice always reminds me of the late Frank Gifford’s.

  37. holly hobby says:

Ah Clint, I liked you better when you didn’t talk!

  38. Green_Eyes says:

One thing about the McCain/Palin ticket it brought out the closet racists (age only enhances ones personality & character; the nastiness was already there -As in Eastwood). Some hid it well or truly thought they were not racists.. but they were. Trump’s campaign just brought out all the ones that weren’t afraid to hide it & the ones that were truly racist & only friends & family knew. God help us if Trump actually wins.. Has anyone else seen that horrible footage showing the things people say & yell at Trump’s Campaign? CNN Don Lemmon presented it on CNN the other night. Trump actually is in the footage & shown encouraging the nasty hateful comments. This country won’t survive a week w/ Trump at the helm.

  39. So he’s really going for the full-throttle Old Coot routine in the autumn of his career, isn’t he? Bless him. You kids get off of my lawn!

  40. hogtowngooner says:

Because the Republicans never exploited soldiers or their families, right? Anyone remember Pat Tillman? They fabricated his story for propaganda and almost got away with it until his family stepped in.

  41. wolf says:

    Clint is absolutely right.

  42. teacakes says:

    SIT DOWN, Clint.

And troll upthread, I will not give you the satisfaction of a reply.

  43. Kami says:

😡 I can’t believe I actually liked this man. I will never support his endeavors again, movies and otherwise. What a embarrassment to our country and even his generation (I imagine not all people his age are racist bigots).

  44. JRenee says:

Sometimes for a second or two, I wish their private lives and thoughts stayed private. I grew up with him on the boobs tube in our house. One of my dad’s top 5 faves. ..now I I just listen to him and sigh.
Please sit down and stay away from the microphones.

  45. kanyekardashian says:

I was going to see ‘Sully’ but I just can’t with this a$$hole – I won’t support anything he does. And as far as being exploited by a political party, how about the parade of whining moms Trump trotted out at the RNC? One gets out there and says Hillary personally killed her son and that he was a hero because he died at Benghazi. Never mind that he was just a government worker who could have chosen another occupation and knew full well that being in the Middle East meant that there was a chance he could die over there. Meanwhile, the Khan’s son put himself in harm’s way to help his fellow soldiers and died literally to save others’ lives. That’s what a real hero is.

  46. Mary says:

86 year old guy might as well speak to a chair.
    Dont care.

  47. Susan says:

Some poor slob who is an accomplished attorney and graduate of Harvard. Fuck off Clint.

  48. Susan says:

Some poor slob who is an accomplished attorney and graduate of Harvard. Fuck off Clint. You couldn’t handle the intellectual workload of one week as a first year law student at Harvard.

  49. maryquitecontrary says:

I am a Gold Star Daughter. This comment goes BEYOND offensive to me. Stop talking, Clint. Gold Star Sacrifice is about love lost, life lost, grief immemorial. years spent in a cemetery growing up beside *your daddy* a hero and a marble stone, one in an endless row.

Things you know NOTHING about. SHUT UP and go talk to a chair.

    That is all.

  50. LinaLamont says:

I’m sorry if someone already posted this. I don’t have time to read this entire thread.

  51. India Andrews says:

Of course the Khans are being used. Everyone on that stage during the convention was being used.

Trump was an idiot for taking the bait. He needs to learn when to punt the ball.

  52. iheartgossip says:

Most everyone who is a true Clint Eastwood fan is dead or near to it. He is a hateful, woman abusing, racist old man.

  53. nicole says:

I grew up watching Clint Eastwood movie, he is my fathers favourite actor, but never liked him for some reason, he always had a bad attitude to women, and he seems to have a bad attitude to life in general going by these awful comment he has made, not surprising to me. Mr khan is a very smart, articulate man and I thought his speech at the DMC was very powerful and emotional.

  54. TheOriginalMe says:

Clint is disgusting -not only just your garden variety uneducated actor but a mysogynist and a bigot. I personally have never cared for him or his movies. I can’t stand him and his ilk.
But all the hateful sentiment here directed at his age… Wow. I find that pretty disgusting too. Yes he’s a hateful creature. His age has little to do with it.
