A couple of weeks ago, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson gave the world a rather delicious blind item. In the midst of the final few weeks of filming the eighth installment of Fast & Furious, The Rock took to Instagram to call out an unnamed co-star. The Rock said the co-star was a “candy-ass” who was too “chicken sh-t” to conduct himself in a professional manner. Within a day, we had learned the identity of the candy ass: none other than Vin Diesel, the star of the Fast & Furious franchise. Apparently, The Rock and Vin had gotten into repeated boy-beefs about Vin’s diva behavior (allegedly), which included showing up late to the set and basically acting like he (Vin) was the biggest and baddest princess in all of the land. As it turned out, there was a lot of gossip about Vin’s consistent unprofessional behavior, especially over the past few years.
So what do you make of this? The Rock posted the Instagram (above) with this message:

Gee, did he leave anyone out of his thank yous? I mean, he left out Ludacris and Jason Statham. So maybe there’s some shade there. But he also left out Vin Diesel. As for this: “a huge THANK YOU to our hard working production crew – the backbone of our business. Your kind words meant a lot to me last night – thank you! In the end, we all rallied, as great teams do, kicked ass and will deliver an amazing movie to the world.” I mean, The Rock is saying that he gets along better with the production crew. He’s saying that he’s the team player and Vin isn’t. Which I believe.

Nothing wrong with calling people out on their b.s. Especially when it affects other people.
We complain when people *don’t* speak out publicly, and then complain when people *do*. Diesel is well known for being a jerk onset, and as Lainey pointed out, for it to have gone on this long, it’s with the tacit approval of the Powers That Be. The Rock is the only person onset in the position to criticize Diesel, and it has to be pretty bad for him to say something publicly like this.
Both of these are grown men. It’s icky to be calling out people on public forums. Unless violence is involved this is just, no. Be a man and tell him to his face you think he’s a jerk.
Vin may have an ego but unless he is acting like David O’Russell there is no need for people to be witnesses to your beef.
Both are wrong in my book, but the Rock (blech to the name) should not have even brought it up. Besides Jason Statham is better than Vin or Rock.
It must have been really bad because this behavior goes against everything we know about the Rock. Also explains why Vin works little compared to when he first came on the scene.

Long ago, before he was a movie star and was a star wrestler, he came to our local ball park when my boys got into line hours before.
I took my youngest and waiting for 3 hours outside in the blaring sun for a meet and great with The Rock – I didn’t even know who he was, but all of my boys brought a can of Spaghetti O’s for him to sign(it must have been a thing he did.)
My littlest froze when we got to him.
Couldn’t speak.
The Rock was so, so sweet and patient, waiting till my son could muster up the guts to reach out with his can.
The Rock shook my hand, too, and I nearly fainted given his gorgeousness.
It struck me his kindness and gentleness.
I simply like the guy…seems genuine and good for him not taking the PC route in calling out a douche.
They are acting like children.. (and I’m not insulting children). Grown ass men that make more money than most people will in a life time. And they are asked to read lines and act. They bring their over inflated egos into a popcorn movie that has never been that great to begin with.
Grow up and keep this stuff to yourself. Why do we have to know about it. I don’t get along with some people I work with. I don’t feel the need to make it public. I know people here just love the Rock.. I’m a take him or leave him person. He is acting childish.

@V4Real.. you are are right. I should have said HE.. because he is the one doing this. And to me that is strange. People may not like Vin but he is one of the original cast. The Rock came in later IIRC.. but I will be honest. I probably have only seen one of these movies. And that would have been the first or second one.
As much as I’ve always found The Rock charming, I have to agree. It seems like he’s being passive aggressive and petty. Very high school to give shout outs to some “friends” and leave others out.
Agreed and let’s not forget that supposedly the cast is not happy with the drama The Rock stirred up (I wouldn’t be either) so his post is just fanning the flames that they probably wish would die out already.

I’m still amazed that there are people who didn’t know about Vin’s diva bad attitude. Once his big blockbusters did just OK or outright bad nobody felt inclined to work with him anymore. He got VERY lucky with F&F but remember it’s another franchise he had to come crawling back too after skipping the sequel. He’s had to grovel, but this is the one franchise where he still has the power to pull the diva crap. It’s not new!

Interesting that no one here took back all the awful things they said about “this is definitely Scott Eastwood.” Everyone was so quick to condemn him and it turns out it wasn’t him. Anyhow…neither guy handled themselves very professionally but I still prefer the Rock over Vin. He at least seems to have a sense of humor about himself.
The only thing I said about Eastwood was that I hope it wasn’t him because he gets it bad enough on this site. I have never said any thing about Scott because I don’t know a whole lot about him. I don’t criticize him because of who his dad is. His dad didn’t raise him and we don’t know if he shares his dad’s views.
Maybe he didn’t speak out publicly against what his dad says because hey, it’s his dad. He hasn’t always been in his life and he probably don’t want to damage their relationship.

Wonder why the non addition of names from Ludacris to Statham hmm. Ludacris always seems so laid back Statham seems possibly prone to divatude but he’s committed to his movies and doing all his own action. The amount of money they make between the Rock to Diesel I will use a Rock line shut your pie hole it’s like when you’re working in a desk job or restaurant you keep your qualms to yourself and act professional if you have a problem go through your chain of command. All that was said about Diesel I think in his version of the tale he said the Rock was doing the same be interested to hear the productions crew take on it or just retire the Fast and Furious franchise already.
Is Statham even in a lot of scenes with the Rock? I have to admit I haven’t watched all the movies but I thought that the Rock was with the F and F crew and Statham was the villain. Not referring to Ludacris probably means more, especially if Ludacris took a side with Vin.
I also think he named checked Scott Eastwood and Tyrese because they were both included as potential divas before more info came out about Vin.
I still think Eastwood is douchey, but I guess he isn’t a diva.
He should show a little more respect towards the man who is the face of the franchise. Vin has kept quiet and Dwayne keeps looking petty and childish. If you’re not gonna elaborate on what happened, then shut up about it.

Diesel has a rotten reputation, and has since the first F&F movie. And with him as a producer, it’s one of the bosses behaving badly. The onus should be on him to be the best behaved one on set, especially as the “face of the franchise”. That respect should be earned.
I don’t know about Vin’s supposed past behavior. All I know is that in THIS situation, Vin hasn’t said a word while Dwayne keeps making jabs at him. It doesn’t make sense to me how people can’t see this situation as petty and unprofessional.

I hate that kind of attitude. Show someone respect because they’re the headliner or whatever. No. I don’t believe in going out of my way to be respectful to anyone who can’t behave properly. I’m not going to pat anyone on the back for poor behavior just because they’re the ‘lead’. That kind of attitude is the same kind of mindset of the people who fawn over the CEO and treat the janitors like crap.
Respect is earned. Basic human kindness should be a given, but if someone does nothing to earn respect, it’s not going to get handed out.
For years, there has been rumors about Vin Diesel’s on-set behavior, while Rock’s reputation has always been solid. Still, I don’t think Rock should have used social media to call him out, especially this passive-agressively.

I still don’t want to see it. It should have remained a children’s film. I don’t really care to see these grown men doing any version. Robin Williams had a childlike quality to his performance. I don’t see that with any of the men for the next one.
The Rock has a great personal and professional reputation. He never talks about anybody, so if he is now, there’s good reason for it. I’d be po’d too if someone’s unprofessionalism affected me and inconvenienced cast and crew. Nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade. As others have mentioned, vin has a reputation for being a diva. No need to be one, look at the Rock. Class all the way, not catty.
His EGO is just as big.. just because it is wrapped in charm and a big smile doesn’t negate that he is in fact being catty. He said what you wanted the first time. Now it becomes something different when you keep going on and on. Not classy at all.

Vin Diesel has a terrible reputation, including for treating the people around him like crap. There’s a reason why the guy who heads up the biggest franchise around doesn’t work much outside it. And of course as folks pointed out, he wasn’t above using Paul Walker’s death to enhance his own reputation. Ick. Ego or not, the Rock has a stellar reputation as someone to work with.

And I don’t know nor care about Vin.. not defending him nor what he may or may not have done to The Rock.. I said The Rock is being childish in this incident. If you have a problem with someone take it up with them. If it continues you have the choice of not working with that person. Regardless of his “stellar reputation”.. I find him childish in this instance.. And that is not a defense of Vin or support for either. In all honesty I don’t really care for either.
I actually didn’t mean it in a sense of grammar, meaning your implication that we wanted the controversy. It was ONE comment. The second one is perfectly fine. The man has a contract, so it’s not a choice of not working with someone. Reportedly, he did actually bring it up directly with the folks necessary – again, Diesel is a producer on the movie, so in this scenario it’s the boss who’s behaving badly. What bugs me is that we complain all the time about no one speaking up in Hollywood when people behave badly, and the system that goes out of its way to protect white men. And yet someone makes a single Instagram post and we’re more concerned with it being unprofessional?
I like The Rock, he’s very charismatic. But, don’t think for one second his halo is free of scratches. Remember when his marriage ended right after Walking Tall and allllll those rumors of infidelity on his part? Rumors are just rumors, but there were a LOT. Enough to make me believe there was more than an ounce of truth. I think his IG was petty and beneath him, I think Vin knows that his rep is shaky and is choosing not to engage so it appears he’s actually taking the high road and (for real) I had no idea until I read about all this that Vin had a diva thing going on.

Um… How is this petty? Vin isn’t the only one he left out. He didn’t mention Ludacris, Jason Statham, Kurt Russell, Michelle Roderiguez, or Charlize Theron. We know he likes the women, cause he said, so these ommissions have nothing to do with passive aggressive shade, folks. There’s too many left unmentioned for that.
I’m super surprised at how everyone is judging the Rock. He’s done nothing except vaguely refer to problems with costars. Once. Without dramatically naming names. The whole thing has just taken a life of its own, with people looking for shade in this post, where there is none.
Rock’s not perfect, but let’s not jump on things that aren’t there.

EXACTLY. They acted like he mentioned every actress/actor in the movie with him and purposedly left out Vin. He’s always been like this (mentioned some of his favourites and thank the crews). After the blind, people are just reading too much into his posts now..

Thank you! If you follow DJ on IG you’ll notice he’s always thanking everyone in every movie or events he does. He has mentioned before he’s thankful for the opportunities he’s had and I think deep inside he knows he’s limited to what he can work in, so he’s always expressing his gratitude and the guy is always getting work.
I love this man. He has been my celeb crush for YEARS!!!! He’s a giant teddy bear. He has a giving soul and donates so much time and love to different charities. He’s awesome. If he’s calling someone out, man, Vin’s behavior must have been ridiculous!! Also, he’s hilarious and he’s a great actor. Rock on, pun intended.
1 – The Rock was ‘spawned’ in the world of that testosterone driven soap opera known as wrestling. The two best trash talkers in wrestling are The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. They learned from Rowdy Roddy Piper and Ric Flair. The Rock is merely trash talking to stir the pudding. He doesn’t really mean any of it.
2 – Here is the important part of this “issue”. Look at all of the free publicity the movie is getting! If any of these folks have a piece of the gross, money has been saved on advertising and will be heading into their pockets.
I agree. This is so fake. I haven’t seen any of the Fast & Furious movies except the first and second. I decided then that they should have ended it with the first movie. Now my husband and I are thinking of going to see the 8th in the franchise just so we can see if the Rock is really that angry.
If it isn’t fake, this was the best accidental publicity move ever.
Dwayne Johnson might have a better Reputation than Vin Diesel but he is no less a egoistical Diva with a way to big mouth.
Maybe it’s going on this long and publicly because they’re hoping to either give Johnson his own spin off or get rid of Diesel.
Frankly, I think the frachise is done. The last one did well out due to or in spite of unfortunate circumstances but it was flagging.
Unless they reboot internally again I suspect it’s diminishing returns from here on out. Which is sad because I like the series and would like it stay good but… This nonsense is nagl from either actor.
I wish they’d patch up their differences and focus on improving the series.

Also, I think people are reading too much into Rock’s latest post. Just because he name-checked some of his cast mates and not others doesn’t mean he’s throwing shade.
I’ll bet it got under Vin Diesel’s skin that he referred to it as our Fast Family, given Vin’s been pretty much married to the franchise lol.
In every drama there are two sides to the story while the truth is usually somewhere in the middle. We aren’t hearing anything from Vin Diesel so who knows what really went down. The Rock is used to being the big dog in all of his movies so I’m not surprised that him entering a franchise with an already established big dog would create a pissing contest.
