Maxim finally released it’s list of the Hottest, Sexiest whatever. It’s a really depressing list. Usually, I can at least defend some of the top women by saying “at least they have curves” or “at least they’re not anorexic bitches”. Not so much this year. This year’s number one hottest, sexiest whatever is the incomparable… Olivia Wilde. Blech. She’s plays the character Seven on House, and she blows. She’s a bad actress, and she’s not even that pretty (in my opinion). CB chimed in: “Plus her hair is always so limp and crappy looking. That’s what happens when you starve yourself!”
The top five went down like this, in descending order: Olivia Wilde, Megan Fox, Bar Refaeli, Malin Akerman, Mila Kunis. If you were like me, you muttered “Malin whatsit?” Don’t feel bad, I looked her up. Malin Akerman is a Swedish-Canadian model-turned-actress who is probably best known for her recent turn as Silk Spectre II in this spring’s Watchmen. And what the f*ck is Mila Kunis doing in the top five? That girl from That 70s Show? Is this a joke?
Maxim is celebrating the 10th anniversary of what has come to be known as the “it list” of Hollywood heat.
Models, athletes, hard-working moms, reality show stars and a First Lady are all included in Maxim’s 2009 Hot 100.
And after sifting through thousands and thousands of photographs (tough work, but someone’s gotta do it) the editors of Maxim have chosen “House” star Olivia Wilde as this year’s big winner.
“Olivia Wilde has been the sexiest woman on television since she heated up ‘The OC’ five years ago,” said Maxim editor Joe Levy. “She’s smart, she’s beautiful, and she has dual citizenship in the US and Ireland — what more can a man ask for?”

I actually just read something interesting about Olivia Wilde a few weeks ago, I think it was in W Magazine. She married an Italian named Tao Ruspoli, who is some kind of big deal in Italy, he‘s like the son of a prince, which would make him a prince, except Italians don‘t give a crap about their royalty anymore. I hate to say it, but I’d almost rather see Megan Fox top the list rather than Olivia. That’s how disappointed I am.

I heart Mila Kunis – I think she’s funny & was a fan of that 70’s show. The others – meh. Especially Meghan Fox – everything that comes out of her mouth is a turnoff to me. Bar Rafaeli is so beautiful but I don’t see her really fitting in on a Maxim list – I’m actually surprised that these aren’t women more like Britney Spears, Jessie James, etc. It’s surprising that Maxim would lean toward the super-thin crowd.

Oh don’t start again with the “WERE IS THE CURVY WOMEN” nonsense. I am no fan of these stupid lists that seem to come out every couple of months, declaring a new “sexy this…” and “beautiful that…” women/men but wanting to call each woman on this list “anorexic bitches” is f*cking ignorant. I admit I had to look up some of the names on Google but to be fair all those girls are pretty attractive and healthy with very nice bodies. Lets be honest, no one wants to see chubby/ overweight celebrities (men and women) being passed as sexy, they are simple not attractive.

You people are hilarious, chill out all of you. My first comment was not meant to insult anyone and as far as for my last sentence that was pointed out by geronimo (you need to calm down too), I was referring on how Maxim works, how they always photograph their models/celebrities always half naked and in a way in order to portray sexy. Seeing a half naked overweight person splattered on the pages of those types of magazine does not have the same pleasurable effect as seeing a fit slim person and I know this goes for many.
The word “curvy” HAS become synonymous with being chubby and overweight and by people promoting the curvy image in reality they are actually promoting obesity in a world that already suffers from it. So why does that make it some how more acceptably then seeing slightly thinner people in the media? (NOTE, I do not mean those minor extreme cases of severe anorexic, underweight people, they deserve our sympathy because they are clearly suffering from an illness not our criticism). I just hate the hypocrisy of these people on this issue.
To chime in on the ‘Enonymous’ debate, while I wouldn’t go as far as to call the likes of Scarlett Johansson ‘overweight’, the whole ‘real women have curves’ is just as wrong, in my opinion, as deriding those who aren’t heroin-chic thin. These double standards need to stop. While those who are deemed ‘curvey’ are exhalted as ‘natural’, being on the skinny side is ‘natural’ for some people too.
Enon – re the curvy issue, why not say all that then in the first place instead of frothing at the mouth and going off on one like you did earlier? Then you wouldn’t have other posters – people who plainly don’t depend on the media to tell them the difference between curvy and obese – calling you out on your ridiculous generalisations.
As I said before geronimo, you and some of the other posters need to chill out and start making more sense because people in this site get worked up too quickly sometimes (and yes that can include myself). I think Olivia has that cute look going on about her. She looks more natural in the face area to me than some of the other people on the list.
Also, I do believe that her character is made out to look ‘sick’ due to the illness that the character has.
You know what I think? Instead of excluding certain body types, magazines should go for diversity. Women of all colors and sizes. If the media started selling this idea, people would gradually get accostumed with different looks. But, honestly, we cannot expect all this finesse from Maxim, can we?

But I’m going to have to say, I get really sick and tired of the “real women have curves!” BS. As someone who *isn’t* thin NOR has curves (except for my DD chest…that gets teased for being “deformed…), it’s so annoying to me when curvy girls are treated as underdogs. Give me a break.
And I don’t mean “curvy” as in a little bit overweight, but I mean it as in Eva Mendez, Scarlett Johannsen, and Kim Kardashian. I think people want to detect criticism where it isn’t even there so that they can attack thin girls at every single opportunity.

I don’t think it’s a big mystery to any of the members here that I have severe body image issues, and if I can blame that on anyone else, it’d be the men and women who make a conscious effort to insult women without “junk in the trunk” or perfect cleavage…people wouldn’t know what an attainable body image would be if it bludgeoned them upside the head with a baseball bat.
At least I can get thin; I wish that I had a nickel for every time someone comments on my “flat” backside or “deformed” breasts so that I can afford to look, as you all put it, feminine. Everyone I know attaches being voluptuous to some sort of ridiculous virtue because it’s representative of the feminine figure.
But I find it hypocritical of the people who defend curvy women so passionately, when some women are just naturally thin and it’s alright to insult them all the time?
And some women, whether you like it or not, look great with a more slender figure, you know, the type everyone finds ugly.
It’s forced down people’s throats *far more often* to be proportioned like Eva Mendez than it is to be thin, which only seems that commonly embraced within the fashion community.
The Eva Mendezes of the world get on their high horse about body image and how having huge boobs and wide hips is how “real” women look and how starving and anorexia and bulimia are bad for you blah blah blah, and personally, it does affect me, because when people say things like this, I feel ugly.
And now I’m bulimic. So congratulations, Kim Kardashian and Eva Mendez! I’m bulimic because I know I’ll never be beautiful anyway. But I’m sure that’s the message you’re trying to send to young women, right?

People don’t seem to understand that by defending so obsessively the “curvier figure” and criticizing any other body types does not help in increasing self confidence in people and promoting a healthier body image, it just creates more division.
Let me jump on the bandwagon.
Why is it, in this time and age, acceptable to call a slender person an ‘anorexic bitch’? Why are people more careful about what they say to over-weight people, then what they say about slender people?
When it boils down to it, being over-weight or under-weight makes one body conscious and one group should not receive the heavy hand to make the other group feel better about themselves.
I’m naturally slender. My mum, siblings and daughters are also slender. Almost everyone on my mum’s side is slender and tall. We’re not anorexic or bulimic. And I really get peed off when I hear sentiments similar to the one made by Kaiser.
