The #MannequinChallenge was created by our very own students at Ed White HS! Check it out here: https://t.co/f4F1pUngDm #iChooseDCPS

The latest craze hitting the Internet is the #MannequinChallenge – have you heard of it? No, well, get comfortable because EVERYONE is doing it. This challenge, which is just for fun, is a group of people stand perfectly still in a tableau as someone videos the scene. It’s like having pop-up wax museums all over the country. And it is just as creepy as a wax museum. To answer my own question – no, no I have not. Nor will I since I lack the physical coordination to stand still without falling over. The problem is, I am one of those people who loves to be creeped out so I cannot stop watching these videos. Edward H. White High School in Jacksonville, Florida alleges they started it. This is the first known video evidence of the challenge:

This video is silent but along the way, someone added a song to theirs, specifically Rae Sremmurd’s Black Beatle, which has become the unofficial anthem. It’s a perfect choice because it has both a driving beat and a haunting tune – it just ups the heebie-jeebies factor. As a result, the rappers themselves did the challenge at one of their concerts:
This thing has spread through high schools and colleges like wildfire, with people striking more difficult poses. Because it is so physically demanding (anyone who has ever had to “play dead” on stage for their high school production knows what I mean) sports teams have really latched on to this:
Holy **** – these gymnasts:

The entertainment industry wasn’t going to let the sports world have all the fun – enter the celebrity challengers:

James Corden and the Late Late Show:
OMG – James Corden’s was intensive! Seriously guys, everyone is doing this. You could waste your whole day watching these. One thing you won’t see in these videos? Pets. They don’t have time to sit still for this nonsense.
I will close on Hillary Clinton’s team’s video. Originally I had a poignant joke here but unfortunately it now serves as a moment of silence.

I will never do any of these “challenges”. I managed to accomplish the spectacular feat of standing and sitting still years ago but people just called that being lazy and/or comatose.
I’m dismayed by such trends. I’m off to shake my fist at the sky now. Have a wonderful morning.
I unintentionally did the mannequin challenge yesterday when Trump was announced as the victor for President. I stood there frozen in disbelief.
By the way shouldn’t it be called the Professor X challenge/ This is what people looked liked every time X would freeze people in public places in X-Men.
Andrew McCarthy was the funniest:

‘been there, done that’
I never jump on board with this kind of thing – but some of those are SUPER impressive.
Same here. I’ve yet to participate in any of these internet fads / trends but I really like this one. I find it fun to see how creative some people are getting. Also, I sometimes have trouble sitting upright on a couch without moving at all, let alone posing for so long, so it’s even more impressive. 😛
I think that’s why I’m amazed! I’m relatively shakey when I focus hard on trying not to move. And I’m clumsy on top of that – it looks so cool to see this done right.
Agreed, at first I was meh but the videos with a story got me hooked! This cheating video is one of my faves https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrtxPhugx7g
Got a meeting planner yesterday at work to do it today. I deleted it. Wasn’t in the mood.
As for as far as challenges aka wastes of time go I find most of them silly but I’m kinda liking this one. The gymnastics ones is impressive.
Some of these are really cool.
This looks so dumb. I can’t even..
I like the gymnastics, giants and Cowboys.
Oh, there is a pole dancing one too which is super impressive https://www.facebook.com/100011677892808/videos/vb.100011677892808/304482206617707/?type=2&theater
That is amazing! Talk about upper body strength
I can never get into these challenge things, maybe because I’m not active on social media. these are super creative but I can’t watch more than a couple before it gets boring.
Alessia Cara’s “Here” video is, in my opinion, the original mannequin challenge.
The gymnastics were incredible! Where am I living? I had no idea about this challenge.
I don’t usually, but my roller derby team did one on Monday and it was really fun. It’s nice to do something silly, especially this week when everything seems in to be in the crapper.
