Prince William went solo to two events, including the Tusk Trust Awards

Prince William had a big day full of events on Wednesday. And by that I mean he did two events, one during the day and one in the evening. Poor Normal Bill! What’s always interesting to me is how, where and why William decides to do events solo, because he was alone for both events yesterday. Where was Kate? Coloring at Anmer Hall? Staying at her mom’s house, maybe? Getting her hair done and then doing a spot of shopping?

During the day, William visited a train factory in Derby. He got to play at being a train conductor, which he really enjoyed, and he got to eat some cake from a former contestant on the Great British Bake-Off. Then in the evening, William flew solo at the Tusk Trust Conservation Awards held at the Victoria and Albert Museum. William usually goes solo to Tusk Trust events. Some of you royal-watchers have pointed out that the Tusk Trust is Jecca Craig’s big charity. Jecca is deeply involved with the Tusk Trust, for about the same amount of time that William has been involved with it. I do not know if Jecca was at the event last night. If she did not attend, then as far as I know, Jecca and William haven’t seen each other since he flew to Kenya in March and attended Jecca’s wedding over the Easter holiday. William missed his daughter’s first Easter so he could see his ex-girlfriend get married. Just a reminder! Oh, and Jecca also gave birth to a (secret) baby this year. This whole thing is so… interesting.

Also: I assume Ol’ Work-Shy Will is trying to do a last-minute royal-engagement blitz to get his year-end numbers up. In one month, Buckingham Palace will reveal their official event numbers for all of the working royals and I’m assuming that William and Kate will be the *sad clown noise* least-working royals for the fifth year in a row. They even get to count “private meetings” to their numbers and they still look lazy as hell.

I bet that cake was really good.

  2. Harla Jodet says:

The Duchess’ EACH charity was having a gala fundraiser last night, sadly their patron couldn’t be bothered to attend but she did send a nice, little note.

    • Fallon says:

We must not have any expectations that she might attend something for her charities. She doesn’t want to create expectations.

    • Tourmaline says:

Ugh really?!? That is so pathetic. Well, she doesn’t want to create any expectations that she will actually show up for her paltry number of charities, so there you go. Maybe she enclosed a nice coloring page with her note—you know, that she did while she was unwinding one day from her full-on life.

    • HK9 says:

I’ll never understand that. This is her charity so I thought when they have their galas, the patron is supposed to show. Isn’t the point to draw as much attention to the charity when they have events so that people will support it?

      • Chrissy says:

Sadly, the charity’s own patron can’t be seen to support it, so why would anyone else? I guess she has to wash her hair last night.

    • notasugarhere says:

It was the inaugural Gala and auction fundrasier, and she didn’t bother to attend. Had to turn to one of their celebrity Ambassadors, Ed Sheeran, instead.

“We look forward to welcoming guests to EACH’s inaugural Gala Dinner on Wednesday 30th November at the famous Hintze Hall at the heart of the Natural History Museum, London. Joining us for an exclusive live performance is world renowned musician and close friend of EACH, Ed Sheeran. “

      • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Am quite sad to hear she didn’t go but chose instead to do a ‘fun’ craft event with children last week – but I guess that was interesting to her given Willys recent comments. This one was the most important to the charity and would have gotten them more donations if she had bothered to make the effort.

      • notasugarhere says:

Truth is, she should have done both events and far more. From a KMR poster, she’s done fewer than 60 days of work this year, tours included.

      • Green Girl says:

This is so strange on so many levels. Of all the events and galas for her charities, this is the one that she really shouldn’t have missed. I honestly don’t get it.

      • Sharon Lea says:

This is disheartening to hear, seriously. Didn’t Jason tell the press they were going to really dig in this year? It seems William might be doing more, but I don’t see it from Kate.

    • Chrissy says:

This reminds me of when Willnot didn’t show up for the annual BAFTA ceremony but was said to be at the Midds with his feet up and being fed cheese on toast by Carole. Their laziness is mind-boggling.

  3. Cee says:

Will the memorial service for the late Duke of Westminster be counted as an official event? Kate did wave at the crowds.

    • Tourmaline says:

I’m sure it will be! Only in her alternate universe is going to a family friend’s memorial service “work”. The only forthcoming engagement listed is the Queen’s family Xmas luncheon on December 20–because going to your husband’s granny’s Xmas luncheon is work!

    • AmyLue says:

I did not see it listed in the Court Circular. Charles and Camilla attended as representatives of the Queen. So, I am going to say no.

      • Cee says:

I was being sarcastic LOL Wasn’t Charlotte’s christening listes as an official duty?

      • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

@Cee – i believe Charlotte’s birth was in the Court Circular so would have counted as ‘work’. I wonder if they put her conception in there as well.

  4. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

God, he is an unattractive man. Looking more and more like Wallace (of Wallace and Gromit) with each passing day.

  5. Tourmaline says:

Who has Fleetwood Mac’s “Tusk” stuck in their minds now? Anyone??

  6. Harla Jodet says:

Is it just me or does William seem happier and more relaxed on solo engagements?

    • Lisa says:

I’ve noticed that they both look more relaxed when doing solo engagements. When together she looks like she’s cowering and he’s constantly gritting his teeth. At these engagements, he sure looks happy to not be dragging the little woman behind him. I’m betting that Jecca was at the Tusk event. That could also be why he looks so engaged.

    • Ravine says:

The DM article says that Carole and Michael Middleton were at the Tusk event!

“He was even joined by his parents-in-law, Carole and Michael Middleton, at the event, although there was no sign of Kate who is believed to be at the couple’s home at Kensington Palace.”

Very strange. Especially if she was in London. Theories?…

  7. Tough Cookie says:

Train factory? Pretending to be a train conductor? Don’t those sound like something George would have enjoyed?

  8. COSquared says:

Thanks to two ‘long’ tours, they’ve had their highest numbers since 2011. Which is probably why there isn’t anything non-compulsory lined up for them. Happy vacation month!

  9. notasugarhere says:

@Kaiser, I don’t think Buckingham Palace releases official numbers, do they? Reporters have to dog the Court Circular and compare it to what really happened, what was in the CC and what never made it in. That was how they figured out being greeted when you step off a plane counts as a separate engagement, when they compared KM’s pathetic numbers one year.

They all wait for Tim O’Donovan to release his tallies. He does it on a volunteer basis as a royal watcher, but it isn’t an official tally from the Palace. He sends it in a letter to The Times end of December/beginning of January every year.

  10. Pandy says:

Maybe she’s pregnant again, hence not showing up for her own charity engagement?

    • notasugarhere says:

If she had been planning on attending, that is how the event would have been billed for months. A Gala Dinner including the royal patron and X. It appears she never had any intention of attending.

Given her penchant for cancelling last minute, even when not pregnant, maybe they didn’t want to chance it knowing she feels free to cancel at any time. Winter Whites Gala 2013 anyone?

    • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

She never showed up when she wasn’t.

    • COSquared says:

Plot twist: Mike and Carole were at the TTA. Also, Kate also missed SportAid’s 40th ann. event held at the Natural History Museum. Didn’t bother to send a message to SA. She is also patron of the NHM…

  11. Maryrose says:

The secret baby is amazing. Is it William’s? She didn’t get married until the child was 6 months old. I’d like to know the timing around their hunting trip and the birth. Kate and William are obviously fighting. Does she want another baby and he’s said no? He always said he only wanted two, and she’s always wanted three. But they are in a big fight over something. He seems to be an unhappy asshole, just like the father he can’t stand.

    • Nic919 says:

It wouldn’t surprise me if they are fighting about a third baby. If she gets pregnant it pushes back the expectations of doing more work for another year or so.

    • notasugarhere says:

      “the child”?? SMH

William, Harry, and Jecca were photographed hunting in Spain in February 2014.

Baillie admitted at an event in May 2016 that Jecca was home taking care of their son. Estimates online put their son around 6 months old at the time. If he was born in Nov 2015, he would likely have been conceived around Feb 2015 not Feb 2014.

Unless Jecca is secretly one of her beloved rhinos, she wouldn’t have a 19-21 month gestation period.

Craig and Baillie were said to be married (at a registry office?) several months before their son was born. It only showed up in one or two places online, mouthpiece Tanna being one of the ones to post it. The Easter celebration was the reception, but the legal ceremony took place in summer or fall 2015.

What a hard day’s work this special snowflake was forced into. If only he could live a normal, simple life.

  13. smd says:

Sigh, y’all are being soo hard on poor Chutney! She just finished the grueling Canadian tour which she has barely recovered from and now is feverishly preparing (about to go shopping) for the upcoming holidays by choosing a variety of doily lace dresses and new wiglets. Enough is enough! Honestly after our current election I’ll gladly stare at the nude pumps of doom, wedges of woe, maniacal grins, her fidgeting with the wiglet and flipping the loose curls while flirting with Harry trying to look vaguely interested in whatever she is attending for 30 minutes max, with skirts flying up around her ears! BRING BACK SOME TIDDSLEBANGING! BECAUSE WE WERE ROBBED A BUILD-A-BEAR ENGAGEMENT! While I don’t care for Kate’s excessive spending, she seems to genuinely love her children and at least she doesn’t make me crazy ragey. I’m still in a bad place y’all. Kitten, Light Purple anyone going to the million women March in DC?

  14. Ravine says:

OT, but I like this sentence from the DM article:

“The visit should prove of much interest to William who showed a great enthusiasm for trains during his visit to Toronto in September.”

    Yep. Canada = Toronto.
