Nicki Minaj finally responded to Remy Ma & it’s pretty weaksauce, right?

Paris Fashion Week - Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2017 - Rick Owens Show

Oh, I get it. The “fake out.” At the same time that Nicki Minaj was leaking to TMZ that her silence was golden and she was going to “win” the Remy Ma beef by not responding, Minaj was assembling a crack team of writers and working on three new songs. “Diss tracks” if you will. For whatever record, Remy released “shETHER” 12 days before Minaj decided to formally respond with music. Maybe Nicki’s stans would have been okay with the wait if Nicki was dropping bombs, but… the general consensus is that Minaj’s three new songs are rather weak. Is Minaj still shook? Minaj’s three new songs are: “No Frauds” with Drake and Lil’ Wayne, which is the song most about Remy, apparently; “Regret in Your Tears” and “Changed It,” both featuring Lil’ Wayne as well. Here’s a clip from “No Frauds,” obviously NSFW for lyrics.

You can hear more clips here. I guess “No Frauds” is the hardest one, but… coming after 12 days, it feels sort of weak? Minaj doesn’t even sound angry, she sounds… I don’t know, I don’t have the word for it. Like, this would have seemed a lot “harder” coming from Minaj if she had done it within 48 hours or so.

Obviously, the best part about this now-cheesy rap beef is the Twitter reaction.

    Too little, too late.

    • BangersandMash says:

too short, too slow, too weak…

For ONE: Nicki got her fans to call Remy’s parole officer and charge her with violation
For TWO: Nicki called Nas and told him to stomp his beats so that Remy can’t perform “shETHER” … THEN wrote on instagram (and deleted) “Nas was like NAH”
For THREE: Nick took a whole 12 days to walk around Paris distracting us by duplicating Lil Kim,
For FOUR: Nicki invoked Beyonce to prove she’s the queen of rap
For FIVE: She had to not only get ghostwriters, she had to bring other people into her shit.

This…. and many more is what Katt Williams refers too as “Fake-a$$- ni&*%$”
I don’t NEVER EVER want to hear any Ish come out that girls mouth about her ‘game’ or Queen of anything…. Any.. Damn… Thang!! She can come to Nickelodeon awards, Country awards, Europe awards… But she needs too humble herself around the hip hop community effective today!!!

Nicki, your ways are TRASH!! Guurl… These stunts are TRASH… Your look is TRASH.

Now, play shETHER for me, while I sip on this Sam Adams and laugh

        BANGERSANDMASH bestfrannn????

because this response was saying everything to me… wig snatched TF off

      • Jegede says:

BangersandMash – Woah! Wish I could tag a Nene Leakes ‘read’ gif.

      • AmunetMa'at says:

Yass!!! Everything you said is why Nikki can no longer rap about 99% of her old lyrics. I’m a fan and I’m sorry this was weak. Her whole approach was weak, not Hip Hop and proved every single point Remy made.

      • Ohso says:

What you said was everything and it gave me life, lol.

    • V4Real says:

The songs are not great but it does show that she can rap. Nicki has flow, something Remy Na, don’t have. I do wish Nicki had stayed quiet .

But it’s actually not too late. She’s showing Remy she’s not accepting the olive branch Remy tried to extend. She called Remy out on the same things Remy called her out on. They Both Have Ghost writers, they both had plastic surgery. That’s the pot calling the kettle black.

But those twitter memes are funny.

At least Nicki was honest and didn’t say shit that she assumed to be true. But Remy Na, probably used alternative facts.

    • Lucy says:

See i see this as the opposite. The fact that it’s a “weak song” and that it came so late is a diss in itself. Like Remy is an afterthought, she’s so unimportant that Nicky just lazily said some random crap and put it out there and it’s STILL #1 on hip-hop charts and itunes, but Remy put so much effort into her sonf and other than the media it didn’t do anything in terms of sales and to be honest not that many people really cared.

    • Celest says:

Sure, it is too late for a rap battle of the mix tape variety. But you already knew Nicki isnt playing street battles. She is here for the commerce. This has a hook, her signature voice theatrics and its built for cross over. Thats intentional. Meanwhile Remy cant perform ShEther because she doesnt own the track rights and didnt do her business homework before she went ahead. She has to figure out the copyright deal before she can even make something out of her biggest selling solo. A problem she wouldnt have had she had her business cap on.

Maybe I’m growing old but I dont care who killed who with their rhymes. If you are an entertainer, you have a very short period of profitability and its a million times worse for female rappers. Both these women are in their thirties, its almost over. Dont give away your talent for free. Remy MUST find a way to exploit her new found mainstream awareness or she will take the true L here. I hope she can. In a decade when they make that Where Are They Now episode on these two, I would like to see two very financially comfy women.

  2. sarri says:

    Meh, Remy Ma won.

  3. Ayra. says:

    I laughed, I couldn’t help it.
Then her twitter captions was the icing on the cake of Meek, her demanding that Remy reply to her in 72 hours after she took so long? I really couldn’t help it at that point. Her supposedly shutting down Paris? I was in the capital this week and last time I checked, nothing was shut down. Then to say don’t surgery shame but do it in the next line? Lord.

    • Indira says:

Remy will respond and destroy her once again.

      • Ayra. says:

I don’t think she should, it’s not even worth it if this is what Nicki will put out. It definitely shows a difference in rap skills.
I personally didn’t care for Remy’s 2nd track, she should have stopped at shETHER but this was 3 tracks of pure nothing, it’ll rack up some sales but in the end, the point Remy made was proven.

    • Onemoretime says:

I heard she shut off her comment section on Instagram . She is so lame.

  4. Babs says:

    Nikki is peak delusion.

  5. Odell says:

Nicki is a weak lame copy of Lil’ Kim.

    • V4Real says:

So not true. That’s like saying Mariah Carey is a lame copy of Whitney Houston.

Nicki and Kim can both rap, they have their own individual style. Why people act like there can only be one popular female rapper I will never understand. I used to love and listen to rappers like Salt & Pepa, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, YoYo, Monie Love and more all at the same time. These ladies paved the way for women like Kim, Nicki and Eve. Everything is not a competition of whose the best.

      • AreYouForReal? says:

Except each of these women came out with their own individual styles. Nicki came out like a carbon copy of Kim (her wigs, her outfits and even her rapping style). She has only now evolved into her own style (albeit she copied Kim AGAIN the other day in fashion week with the boob out outfit).

      • Paige says:

Nicki can’t rap to me. She’s dreadful. Kim is a better rapper. Plus, Nicki has been ripping off Lil Kim’s style for years. People won’t be so hard on her if she wasn’t a ripoff.

      • Celest says:

Unbelievable. Paige and her friend must be youth who are too young to know Lil Kim. The only similarities between these two are the hyper sexuality intended for the male gaze and colored wigs. Their flow is different. Nicki employs ALOT of inflection. Nicki plays with her vocal tone and will flip from little girl to the aggressive alto Kim depending on content. Nicki plays different characters including a deranged Joker who trills and goes into gibberish without explanation or warning. Even with the wig game, Kims were very tame compared to Nickis.

I am not a fan of Lil Kims era. I am still angry at the direction she and her cohorts took female rap. She tried to embody the male fantasy and sure enough, it ended up destroying her from the inside out. Talent isnt judged on a vacuum. Its judged by what your art added or subtracted from your people. Nicki is marginally better in that respect but only because Lil Kim was so bad.

      • Paige says:

        Celest,
I was in high school during the Lil Kim Era. Nicki has taken plenty from Kim in the style department. The only thing she couldn’t take was her ability to rap. Kim is ten times a better rap artist than Nicki. Nicki’s verses are trash. And how can she make a song titled No Frauds, when 80 percent of her body is fake.

      • Celest says:

98% of Kims face is fake. Remy has had assistance too. Who cares? Are you going to shame them for wearing wigs too? How about makeup? A womans body is her own to do with as she likes.

Kims sound was hardly unique either. There were other over sexed deep voiced rappers, she just hot an extra push from sleeping with Big. Name me even one Lil Kim song that doesnt discuss how bomb her P is? Just one. And she has the prison thing in common with Remy too. This gangsterism is exactly the opposite of what we need in female rap. Give me the Theatre Geek from Queens who dresses like a barbie doll and raps in a British accent sometimes over thuggish rappers any day.

In any case, I am glad you are not denying that the only time Nicki is reminiscent of Kim is when she is in her over sexed persona. Otherwise, her multiple personality gimmicks and cartoonish voices are closer to Slim than LIl Kim. And dont ever joke that Lil Kim has better flow when she sounds indistinguishable from Queen Penn and Foxy. Anybody can tell Nicki on a track, with Lil Kim you will rack up a bunch of names first. And to make matters worse, all her song sound like the previous one.

    • Dani says:

Even comparing Nicki to Lil Kim is wrong. Lil Kim might be a bit batshit and unhinged but she’s waaaaaay better than Nicki.

  6. Nicole says:

People are right for a diss track it’s weak. But it’s not a diss track. It’s a way for Nicki to make money off the beef. It’s smart and in terms of rap she takes an L. As does Remy for that whack follow up (like a baby L).
Either way you spin it Nicki is not in the rap game. But she will still come out on top when it counts the most. Remy did this diss for some airtime and coins and Nicki is playing that game better.

So rap game: Remy takes it although less of a win with that second track (that she wrote and not Papoose)
Life game: Nicki takes it. The songs are already in the top 10

  7. PHAKSI says:

Even non hip hop head me can tell this song is weak. And her featuring Drake and Wayne on it????? Remy Ma and Papoose better reply fast, and not wait no 2 weeks to do it.

  8. maria says:

She needed help for that? Okay.

  9. Will-o says:

ok, but why is Nicki acting like she hasn’t demanded and screamed that radio stations not play certain artists songs, something that has been confirmed. Adding that to the fact that Universal blocked Remy’s song from being played. I don’t care for any of them but c’mon girl.
So does she really want to compare sales? We’ve all seen some bad songs make it to #1 too.
**casually looks at the fact that she needed to get Drake and Wayne but even they can’t help this mess**

    • Celest says:

Universal is blocking it because Remy wasnt smart enough to clear the rights first. Such a stupid move on her part. She should have anticipated that this could go mainstream and that theres earning potential there. She owns her own masters, so it would have been easy to just use one of her own tracks. She can probably negotiate for a post violation deal if she wants but it would probably eat into her take too heavily to be worth hiring lawyers to negotiate. This is a fine example of forgetting that you are in this to feed your kids not wear imaginary queen crowns.

      • Nicole says:

She should’ve had time to clear the song because it’s not like she wrote it.
Dumb move on her part for sure. This will be a blip for sure. Not even close to the Drake vs Meek feud

  10. Peeking in says:

Meh – the track is not slanderous, but I like it. I like that she didn’t make up a bunch of provable lies just to get the laughs, but I guess that’s what battle rapping is, you don’t have to rap truth.
This sh!t needs to be put to bed, I wish Nicki hadn’t responded. Then again, YM will make a lot of money on those 3 tracks.

  11. Doc says:

I made the mistake of googling the lyrics to the so-called diss track by the former artist (I am not dignifying it by writing her name or the name of the song) and it’s … DISGUSTING. What on earth are those disgusting words that have been put together? That woman brags about being violent and using a gun in the ‘song’ after actually having her sentence in prison prolonged due to her showing zero remorse for a victim she severely impaired by shooting her. I could not get through the whole thing. Gross, disgusting, awful. I hope they both just go away.

    • EX says:

      Disgusting is actually the word..

    • Dani says:

Have you googled some of the words to the most famous rap songs in history? Because…I can assure you, they make both of these women look tame. How come men are applauded for their choice of words and degradation of women and inflicting violence on others but women are shamed?

*one of the most famous rap lines that is constantly repeated and applauded, by Jay Z
You know I thug ’em, fuck ’em, love ’em, leave ’em
‘Cause I don’t fucking need ’em
Take ’em out the hood, keep ’em looking good
But I don’t fucking feed ’em

      How is that ^ okay?

      • EX says:

But who said Jay Z’s song was okay?

      • V4Real says:

Exactly @EX and what these posters are talking about is that this site is so against slut shaming women why is it oK to give the stamp of approval of one woman slut shaming another. They are not talking about male rappers at this point and time.

      • Celest says:

Are these slut shaming lyrics? Its a guy saying HE is a “slut”. He is not mocking the women, he is explaining his own characters ethos on sex and relationships. Remy did the opposite. She repeated cheap hair salon gossip to tarnish another womans success. Had Remy been talking about her own sex life, nobody would care.

But even that aside, male rappers are regularly excoriated for misogynistic lyrics here. So why should we give Remy a pass? Because she is a girl or because you hate Nicki?

      • Otaku Fairy says:

I agree with V4real and Celest. In fact, if Eminem or Ed Sheeran made a song spreading rumors about Nicki Minaj’s sex life as a put down and saying she fucked her way to the top, they’d probably get less praise than Remy Ma is getting and more criticism.

  12. Skins says:

Pretty lame when “diss tracks” and “beefs” are actually career moves for these people

  13. Markida says:

🤦🏽‍♀️ Nikki so trash and wack!!! Remy Ma all the way up!!! ⤴️
    Nikki ⬇️

  14. BJ says:

Congrats to Nicki for topping the charts.
Also congrats for tying Aretha Franklin for the most Top 100 hits by a woman. Personally I prefer Nicki’s and Drake’s pop rap to “real” rap. It’s about personal preferences.

  15. EX says:

First of all, LMAO! This whole rap dissing sh*t is funny. Like some kindergarten kids trying to one-up each other during a fight.

Now i’m no fan of Nicki but i had to listen to the song cos…the tweets. I was surprised by how i started moving to the beats (in the office, btw). Diss or no diss, that’s a nice jam.

Anyway i decided to do some comparison and also listened to Shether for the first time (with the lyrics), and i was almost snoozing through it. The diss didn’t even get me because it came across as someone desperately cooking lies just to get that damn attention (*side-eyeing donald trump* Just imagine him writing a diss track at Obama lol. It’ll be just like remy ma’s epic mess)

Now i really wanna hear a donald trump diss track. Easy D yo!

  16. Tiffany :) says:

The photo of Nicki in the square glasses looks like it’s from 2009. She needs to switch up her style.

  17. Loo says:

This rap beef is boring because nobody is going to care about Remy Ma after her 15 minutes based on this one track are up. A rivalry is more fun with both sides are actually making hit songs.

  18. jerkface says:

This is so very, very stupid.

  19. Irene says:

I legit do not understand why everyone thinks Nicki is so weak for taking a couple of weeks to come out with her response. It’s not like Remy wrote these overnight, she had like a decade in a prison to write her tracks. You just watch. Remy will keep dropping all these diss tracks for weeks if not months, she’s probably got a full album on the back burner because she had been hoping to turn this into some huge battle.

I can’t attest to whether she ‘murdered’ Nicki because I couldn’t make it through more than 30 seconds of Remy’s track, but in the end, Nick will keep on making millions off of her mainstream hits while Remy fades into relative obscurity once more, so I’m thinking Nicki already won.

And I mean, Remy also straight up tried to murder a woman. Even if she had some great music, I wouldn’t buy it on principle alone.

  20. kimbers says:

No surprises from Nik…she’s still the sad fake little girl she’s always been…

  21. Bridget says:

I’m probably in the minority, but I hated that Remy used Ether in the first place. To me it was like she was trying to co-opt the mojo from that song.

As for Nikki, we were complaining yesterday about wanting her to reply, so I’m not going to complain. And I do think that it’s an interesting dynamic here – the commercial (Nikki) vs the ‘Street cred’ (Remy).

  22. Otaku Fairy says:

    Liked Nicki’s response on instagram:
“Diss records can’t be lies. Great diss records are FACTS. But here @Young Money, we don’t do diss records we drop HIT records & diss u ON them… Queens don’t move on peasant time.”

  23. Original T.C. says:

I have a love hate relationship with Nicki but going to give her the win in this case for coming out with a catchier more commercial hit against a woman trying to slut shame her.

  24. AmunetMa'at says:

I think ppl commenting that Nicki won because she dropped a commercial song is missing the point of battle rap. 1st it’s not meant to be consumable in the same way as a marketable album. That undercuts the authenticity. 2nd Remy Ra implored real word play on 90% of the song. 3rd Nicki proved the biggest, most damaging lie from Shether as true— that she needs writers. Anyone with real talent would have clapped back with in 24hrs. Emimen would have done a track 2hrs later on a mixtape and sent it through social media. Every real rapper worth their salt writes their own stuff.

  25. jerkface says:

I’d rather see women building each other up. If something requires a lawyer then get a lawyer.
There is no “queen” of anything. Art is subjective. Did Da Vinci drop diss paintings? Did Maya Angelou drop poem battle hymns? Did the Blue Man Group slap the paint off eachothers faces to see who was the best at whatever the heck those dudes were doing? No.
Do your own thing and leave everyone alone. There is too much hate in the world as it is. Come on. Be real women. Act grown.

  26. Victoria says:

Nicki grosses me out. She could come back with a diss track that could shut Remy Ma’s carreer down, but she’ll ALWAYS be the pedo supporting lowlife who bank rolls her brothers defense fund. Defend that, you sicko.
