Carrie Prejean on the Today Show, “I was set up”

Carrie Prejean appeared on the Today Show this morning after Wednesday’s news that she has lost her Miss California title after all. She got upset and came across as self righteous and indignant. She kept insisting that it was all due to her opinion against gay marriage despite all the evidence that she continued to shirk her responsibilities to the pageant. She really seemed full of it to me:

Carrie Prejean says she was never informed of appearances she was supposed to make in her official capacity as Miss California USA, and, as a result, she should not have been fired for not making them, the ousted beauty queen told Matt Lauer on Friday’s Today show. “It is a set-up” is how she described her dismissal.

Appearing visibly miffed but well-prepared in what she had to say, Prejean, who was stripped of her title Wednesday, insisted that she did not violate her contract with the pageant organization and, in fact, had to place calls herself offering to appear at hospitals and the Special Olympics, because the organization hadn’t booked a schedule for her.

“Did [Miss USA executive director Keith Lewis] give you specific appearances I have missed?” Prejean, 22, asked Lauer, who replied that Lewis had not.

The only reason she was fired, Prejean stated, was because of her opposing stance on same-sex marriage. “I think most Americans know that’s the reason I’m here today,” she said. As for why Donald Trump had given her the boot after previously supporting her – even after provocative photos of her had surfaced once she’d been crowned – she opined, “He has a business to run. I think he’s tired of being in the middle.”

[From People]

I might be inclined to believe Prejean except for the fact that I read some of the super rude unprofessional e-mails that she set pageant director Keith Lewis. It wasn’t about her opinion, it was about her unwillingness to work with him. Here’s just a sample, with more online:

Many of you have said that you’re hoping that Carrie fades from the headlines at this point. She seems to know what she’s doing and how to continue to get press, but hopefully your wishes will be granted. She told Matt Lauer yet again “I am here right now talking to you because of the answer I gave on that stage.” There are only so many times she can keep bringing that up before people tire of her.

FOX will never tire of having her repeat her ridiculous claims. I caught a glimpse of this self involved bitch using her position on same sex marriage as the basis for her firing on FOX, and the guy talking to her just lapped it up like a cat with cream. Actually, I’ve banned FOX from this house as of last night. Not just because of Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong, but it’s partly why.

  2. Lynn says:

She’s an idiot. This has nothing to do with her comments. This is all about her being a snob and full of herself. I hate these overnight celebs that think they are too good to fulfill their duties and contractual obligations.

  3. Sauronsarmy says:

Whatever. I’m sure Fox “Faux” News already has a job for her.

  4. ash says:

HAHA, Matt Lauer owned her face. She got so defensive, what a B.

“…and you know what Matt” She really liked saying his name with anger.

  5. Renee says:

She’s got the finger pointing and interrupting down pat, she’ll be great on Fox news. Which will be good, because then I won’t have to see her anymore.

  6. Renee says:

Also, LMAO at her accusing Lewis of having an “agenda.”

  7. ! says:

I really think Michael K said it best:

“Carrie will be absolutely fine. She’ll get a job at Fox News. She’ll marry some billionaire. She’ll only wear Talbots. And she’ll spend her afternoons drinking martinis, snorting crushed up painkillers and slapping the help.

After a few years of marriage, her husband will get caught in a park restroom with some gay hustler. Then Carrie will write a weepy tell-all, star in the Lifetime TV version of her book and never be heard from again. Oh and somewhere in there she’ll record a Christian disco album.”

  8. Catlady says:

What impressed me was the calm and professionalism Keith Lewis showed despite the rudeness of this self absorbed nasty little twat. Good riddance to her! It should have happened long ago.

  9. Bros says:

also, its pretty obvious what her duties were prior to the pageant, when she didnt have any appearances-getting her bubbies surgically enhanced. they should ask for those non-jesus approved funbags back, now that she is ‘dethroned.’

  10. nimble minx says:

the headline made me think of the Honorable Mayor Marion Barry.

    “the bitch set me up!”

  11. Tia says:

I don’t get how she doesn’t realize what an ass it makes her look like when she doesn’t take accountability for her own actions. Give me a break, you are not that important B**** that your comment is still an issue… hilarious. STFU and GO AWAYYYYYYYYYYYY

  12. mamalama says:

I’m sure this is just me being stupidly naive, but don’t you think the pageant contestants know prior to entering how their appearances and duties will be handles if they win? I mean, come on now, are you surprised that there’s protocol for what you do as the winner?! “Oh no, now that you’ve won, feel free to tell us what you’ll be doing. No big deal.” Give me a break.

  13. Tess says:

Who the hell does she think she is? Sarah Palin?

Children, your sheer hatred for this woman is so predicable and tiresome.

What was her original crime? Attempting to articulate her views about a controversial social issue that an activist with a personal agenda—- which by the way, had no place at a bathing suit beauty contest—posed to her?

    She was set-up.

Are differences in opinion really not tolerated any more?

  14. me says:

Please … she thought she was above making her appearances because Donald Trump was on her side and thought she could do no wrong. Well she did .. bye bye Carrie, have a nice life.

  15. Mairead says:

I find Fox News strangely compelling – I won’t watch O’Reilly and some of the others, but I haven’t found it that bad for “straight news” (which it shouldn’t, considering that Rupert Murdoch owns half the media)

Anyway – it’d more in this fool’s line to learn that you don’t need to apply makeup with a paintball gun and discover the wonderful world of punctuation.

I hope she intends on being self-employed, because she’s just proven that not only can she not communicate well for her age, but is thoroughly unreliable – which for all intents and purposes when it comes to the Miss California work the organisation is her employer.

They have a duty of care towards her and at the barest minimum need to know where she’ll be if she’s representing them for insurance purposes. GAH! THis girl is a feckin’ idiot.

  16. Linda says:

I’d like to stick her and Palin in a raft in the middle of an ocean. Both of these women are full of themselves and I’m sorry they are women. This is another one that needs to disappear. I cannot believe that anyone would want this b!tch for any type of appearance at any event.

    Yea – she’s a real christian alright!

  17. Diana says:

Thank you for printing copies of the emails. I was actually allowing her some credibility, post her firing.

The emails say it all, she has a personal agenda, period.

  18. Sauronsarmy says:

I like how people are ready to throw out the “freedom of speech” BS but not ready to deal with the CONSEQUENCE of their “freedom of speech”.

If you say something racist, sexist, homophopic, misogynistic, then you are going to deal with people that don’t agree with you, thats how it works.

  19. sarcra says:

All this jumping on Fox News, but they have the rude e-mails written by Carrie to Keith on their site… no question that those are not flattering to her or in her favor.

  20. Tess says:

    @Sauronsarm

I do agree with you about having to live with the consequences of speech.

    It’s the double-standard that’s galling, however.

In this case, her stated answer was the same as Pres. Obama’s position.

Why aren’t the hounds of hell loosed on him?

Also, let’s face it…She was a beauty contestant—not a politician. She got this question thrown at her and had to think on her feet. She was clearly not expecting it.

Why people don’t go after politicians with the same rigor just puzzles me. Politicians are supposed address controversial issues. Beauty queens? Not so much!

  21. abbizmal says:

waaa waaa waaa. Call the Waaaambulance.

  22. nimble minx says:

to the people who say that she has the exact same stance as President Obama…no, not exactly.

“Although Barack Obama has said that he supports civil unions, he is against gay marriage. In an interview with the Chicago Daily Tribune, Obama said, “I’m a Christian. And so, although I try not to have my religious beliefs dominate or determine my political views on this issue, I do believe that tradition, and my religious beliefs say that marriage is something sanctified between a man and a woman.”

Barack Obama did vote against a Federal Marriage Amendment and opposed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996.

He said he would support civil unions between gay and lesbian couples, as well as letting individual states determine if marriage between gay and lesbian couples should be legalized.

From the White House Web site: President Obama supports full civil unions that give same-sex couples legal rights and privileges equal to those of married couples. Obama also believes we need to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and enact legislation that would ensure that the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex couples in civil unions and other legally-recognized unions. These rights and benefits include the right to assist a loved one in times of emergency, the right to equal health insurance and other employment benefits, and property rights.”

    taken from

    http://lesbianlife.about.com/od/lesbianactivism/p/BarackObama.htm

so, while he may not support gay “marriage” as defined by religious standards, he DOES support it by civil standards. and he wouldn’t interfere with states that want to legalize it as he understands that not everyone subscribes to the same religious morals/beliefs as he does.

I don’t think that this mirrors Ms. Prejean’s stance, but if someone has information that her stance is EXACTLY the same as our POTUS, then by all means, please post it.

  23. allie b says:

Nimble minx, thanks for that it was very informative. I don’t like this girl because of what she said, but that is not why is got fired. Many people don’t believe in gay marriage, and it is okay not too (not very equitable but okay.) She is just self absorbed enought to think that she is above her contract because of the minor celebrity this has made her.

  24. JustStoppingBy says:

Wasn’t Ms. California her JOB? Since when are you allowed to tell your boss what you do and do not want to do? Aren’t they paying her?

She’s allowed to believe whatever the hell she wants to believe but that doesn’t mean she can get paid for not doing her job.

btw, Am I wrong in assuming Ms. California is an actual job?

  25. daisyfly says:

I’d like to see any of her supporters not show up to work 30 days in a row (akin to the 30+ appearances she’s supposed to have missed) and act rude and insubordinate to their boss and see whether or not they still have a job.

She said some things people didn’t like, but give me a break here. You can’t act like a spoiled, selfish, entitled brat just because you have NOM and Fox News licking your cooter, all while professing to be “Christian” and blaming it on perescution for your beliefs. Jesus was big on personal accountability and self-awareness.

  26. Mairead says:

Tess, I think you’re missing the point in relation to politicans – they are elected on the basis of their and their party’s approach to certain issues.

I see that you think it was unfair that she was asked about this issue, but you’re incorrect in assuming that it came from left-field and/or no “hot potato” questions are asked of finalists in these big pagents. The candidates are often asked about their opinion on big issues (hence the “Children are our future/ I want to work towards World peace” clichéd bollocks you generally get). Last year one was asked a tricky one about compulsory National Service which unless it was specific to a military background, to be fair would have thrown most people. And it did her as she gave her answer about conscription.

If something topical happened in their area/country recently then they will usually have a question about that. And after the Presidential election Prop 8 was THE big issue California was known for in the past year. Just as the Lousiana contestant was probably asked about Hurricane Katriona in 2006. Considering this and the fact that that gobshite Perez was a judge, she has the worst coaches in the world for not guessing that gay marriage might come up and spending 2 minutes preparing for it.

So long as the she’s not calling for homosexuality to be criminalised, i don’t personally give much of a damn what she thinks – she’s just another twerp who wants to stick her nose in other people’s sex lives. And why should I care? The Miss Universe Contest is only the skankier version of Miss World anyway.

  27. Moore says:

She’s so defensive. I saw bits of this earlier and she got on my nerves. It has nothing to do with her stance on marriage like she says, its her attitude that sucks, the ways she communicates (interrupting, talking over people). She sounds like she was trying to be friends with mister trump to further herself instead of going through the channels as she should have for appearances.

  28. Sauronsarmy says:

nimble minx: Thanks for posting that.

  29. Brandy says:

As much as I dislike this snide little piece of brain-washed trash, I do believe she was used. Used by the Trump publicity machine, than tossed aside when she no longer served her purpose.

  30. Tami says:

I can’t stand her. She is trying to drag this out long as long as she can for as much attention as she can get.

  31. Layla says:

She seems SO uneducated & certainly less than intelligent. They should make IQ tests a part of these pageants.

  32. Rosanna says:

She won’t disappear. The more she’s hated, the more she finds the strength to thrive. So you haters are fueling her…

  33. Jaynelle says:

    1. Carrie should NEVER EVER have been crowned in the first place BECAUSE she was not a representation of equality. THAT being said….

    2. I feel that the way the whole situation was handled was unfortunate. It really DOES appear to be a set up. They should have asked her to step down due to her inability to represent everyone equally. Instead they used passive aggresive and manipulative means by which to de-crown her, and they did not go through the appropriate channels to do so. The media was informed before she was. THAT is defamation.

  34. Meow! says:

Isn’t her 15 minutes up yet?

  35. Carmen says:

She is so trying to get as much attention out of this as she can. She should shut up already and exit.

  36. Jag says:

I would’ve said they used her, too, until I read her emails. They make any thought of her being the victim fly right out the window.

  37. westindya says:

    14.57

    15.00 minutes!! Time’s up!!

  38. Chicamorena says:

Okay lady, you had your damn fifteen minutes, and that was fourteen minutes and fifty-nine seconds more than you deserved. Now get lost. Go take a one-way trip up the Yangtze River or someplace equally remote.

  39. Christina X says:

Ugh, you know I got into an argument over this moron a few days ago. I tried to explain to them that she wasn’t forced to revoke her title because of her opinion, but they insisted on arguing otherwise.

    I knew it wasn’t true.

And she handles herself so poorly. She’s defensive in all of the interviews I’ve seen her in, and just overall seems like a nasty bitch.

There’s no doubt that she doesn’t have a career at Fox waiting for her, because after all, they’re all eager to wave the persecution flag in the face of everyone who disagrees with them. They’re bitter and defensive too, so CP makes a great spokeswoman for that network.

And no, I don’t hate Conservatives. In fact, I consider myself to be a middle of the road type socially, but I am really sick of the whining over the past several years. Everyone complains about how the United States isn’t “united” anymore, but no-one ever wants to contribute to change the state of things around here. It’s annoying. It’s embarassing.

So yeah, I doubt she’ll be out of work for very long, so she can just cry us all a river, build a bridge, and get over it.

  40. Peg says:

I hope faux nuws snaps this bitch right up. Then they can repent in leisure as continues playing the poor wholesome victim.

She is a moron who believes in opposite marriage? What a great spokeswomen for the bat shit crazy lunatic right.

    I can hardly wait.

  41. Marie says:

ow ‘poor little thing’ still trying to make some noise so people wouldn’t forget about her..

  42. Judy says:

She got fired for many things, they let go the pictures, and what she said about gya marriage? She lied about ehr upbringing, her parents were making gay claims against other in the divorce lol so that is why she hates gay because her parents were and are bi sexual. SHe has no idea the difference between bi and homosexual..She thought since the Donald stuck up for her She is just another loser looking for the easy life and using her body to get it..who cares what she thinks lol

  43. G. says:

    I agree with Christina X

  44. Tess says:

    Mairead:

I replied to your comment to me but it appears that CB will not post it.

Sorry about that because I appreciated your points and would have liked for you to read my response.

    Guess I’m outta here.
