About old romcoms and movies… i agree.
It’s hard to rewatch them and some i used to love i am scared to because either the lead is an abusive jerk like Kevin Spacey- although when I watched it back then I didn’t like it and did not understand the hype and I thought he was the creepiest dude. So at least I got that right.
But so many other movies have this narrative of the woman bending over backward to follow and appease the male lead… It’s sad. But at the same time it’s a bit of a shame because now we cant have just stupid funny or romcom movies because everyone has to walk on eggshells so people aren’t upset. I believe this is also why people will rather do either cruel rapeish movies and superhero movies so there’s no significant backlash and movies make Money.
In my opinion,99% romcoms are neither funny nor romantic. They often are misogynistic.The one and only romcoms who never get old is When Harry meets Sally.
French Kiss! with Kevin Kline and Meg Ryan. My mom and I were watching that the other day, and I was comparing it to the stuff we have now. It is an absolute classic and I just wonder when someone will write something similar again.

Do we know he was dumped? I haven’t followed his relationship but I have always loved him professionally. He could have so easily gone the spoiled rich brat route but instead he worked hard and in some dangerous places to build a name as a credible journalist.
I like that he is relatively humble about his background. No trust fund, just working his way through the ranks.
