Joe Alwyn on Taylor Swift: ‘I think we have been successfully very private’

75th Venice International Film Festival - 'The Favourite' - Premiere

I should have paid more attention to “Gorgeous” Joe Alwyn when he was in Venice, promoting his role in The Favourite. He’s not really the star of that film – it’s more of an ensemble – but his part is big enough for him to turn up at the Venice Film Festival to shill for the movie. I guess it’s notable that he went through that entire film festival without commenting on Taylor Swift whatsoever. In fact, Joe has never commented publicly on Taylor at all. They’ve been dating for about two years, if we’re calculating backwards and using the references from Taylor’s blind item songs. They met in the fall of 2016 and quietly dated for months before anyone knew about their relationship. Once people found out, Taylor stage-managed every piece of information we got about them and how “private” they are.

So, until now, Joe Alwyn was silent about his lover Tay-Tay. But he’s profiled in the new issue of British Vogue, and he had something to say.

Since they began dating nearly two years ago, Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have kept their relationship under wraps — and that’s not changing any time soon.

“I’m aware people want to know about that side of things,” the British actor, 27, tells British Vogue in a new interview. “I think we have been successfully very private and that has now sunk in for people … but I really prefer to talk about work.”

[From People]

That’s it? THAT IS IT. British Vogue hasn’t actually released the interview online yet (I looked for it but didn’t find it), so I have to think that the rest of the interview was about his movie or his craft or his family or a bunch of other stuff. Hopefully he didn’t sit down with British Vogue and just say this. “I think we have been successfully very private and that has now sunk in for people…” Okay. Do you think this super-private couple will get engaged and let people know about it? That’s what I’m wondering. But if they break up, we’ll definitely hear about it. Because Taylor wouldn’t be able to help herself.

I read the interview! That is all he said about Taylor, and the author of the article also mentions that Joe and Taylor live together “on and off”.
Then the rest of the interview (it’s a short one) is about his acting, his movies (The Favourite, Mary Queen of Scots and two more that I can’t remember)

Fake relationship, and he is incredibly boring and no, he is not gorgeous.

  3. Astrid says:

Is that the new way to wear a tux tie? I”m not feeling it

  4. Sarah says:

He is the male equivalent of day old oatmeal to me.

  5. Tiffany says:

I….totally forgot they were still happening.

  6. Crumbs says:

He might be private but Taylor is certainly not. She might not be as extra as she was with her previous boyfriends (how could you honestly top tiddles), but girl is shilling this still. She has told her fans tons of stories about her relationship with him during meet and greets. She even had cookies that had a necklace with a J initial on them. She’s just broadcasting it a different way.

It takes a LOT OF ENERGY to run your personal life as public as Tay-Tay did…maybe she just doesn’t have that type of energy anymore…

Or, maybe she just needed to meet a partner who put their foot down and said…

“I ABSOLUTELY refuse to have my private life equated to a bloody circus!!!!” (Gosh…I HOPE that scene went down…

I also saw Joe in the movie “A sense of an ending”…and he was good…I mean, he didn’t fade into the background…he inhabited the character and he was acting among some HEAVY HITTERS in that movie…and he fit in nicely…

He went to the royal central school. He’s a serious actor and he’s making good decisions aka small parts in good projects with great casts and directors. He seems like he’s making smart decisions about his career so I suspect it suits him to be private as he’s clearly aiming for longevity. He may be using Taylor i have no idea but I also think Taylor is more private when the partner wants too she was way more low key with Calvin than Tom. And she’s way more low key with this guy than the over the top thing she had with harry styles when he was still somewhat of a non entity in the US. I think some of her boyfriends have been all in for the publicity that comes with dating her because they thought it would help their career. In Harry’s case it worked because he was in a boy band who had a similarl fan demographic to Taylor. But for an actor like hiddles it was a terrible pr move. This guy wants to be a serious actor running around doing extra things with Taylor will not help that.

  8. Chef Grace says:

His last line, so similar to Hiddles comment on how he would rather talk about his work. 🙂
I guess her Love Potion number??? worked better with pretty Joe. LOL

  9. grabbyhands says:

    Ha!

It will be “private” right up until the second she decides otherwise.

  10. Dara says:

Why do I get the feeling the only reason they have been pushing the oh-so private nature of this relationship is because Taylor was given market-research that showed being private would be the more effective strategy?

And as someone said above, it’s not actually all that private, that are just saying it is, while still making sure her fans are given just enough info to feel like they have a glimpse into Taylor’s world. It is performative privacy at this point.

      This!

And it wasn’t hard to miss that being branded by TS doesn’t make for good pr for an actor. It was a bad move for Hiddles because he or his people didn’t perceive that. Yes you will get a lot of attention dating TS but it won’t be positive. In fact, quite the opposite. Her market research is definitely on to this.

  11. Danielle says:

He is the most nondescript person I have ever seen!

  12. Bliss 51 says:

I know this is sooo tired but let an old lady have some fun, ‘k?

  13. Jenni says:

It’s her job to write songs and heartbreak is part of that… Why would anyone be vexed about that?? Men write whatever they want, why can’t women

    • Dara says:

In my book, anyone (of any gender) who mentions their exes by name in songs, or leaves not-so-subtle hints about who they are writing about in liner notes, should get as much crap for it as Tay Tay does. But no one else pulls that trick as frequently as Ms. Swift does.

  14. Yes Doubtful says:

She wrote an album about him and they do pap walks every week. How is that private?

    • jammypants says:

Right? we know the details of their dates and how they have sex in her songs. We know where they stay and what restaurants they eat at just by reading CB. Private my ass lol

  15. tw says:

So he was 25 when they met and she’s touring half the time and the other half he’s on a set. Sounds like it’s built to last.

  16. Parigo says:

I actually think he’s being very smart about this whole thing. Getting the name recognition and still doing the work and being “private”. It’s probably killing Taylor but he might actually be the one calling the shots. I don’t believe she loves the “private” narrative.

  17. saltandpepper says:

He’s a good actor, very handsome and they’re a super cute couple.

  18. Jh says:

I could never date anyone who looks like my twin brother. Sorry.

  19. Mei says:

He looks like he would be a perfect fit looks-wise to play a young Cousin Matthew in Downton Abbey if they ever went down that route haha. Or little baby George when he’s older!
