This is a mystery worthy of Sherlock Holmes and the hyper-fertile Dr. Watson! According to an official statement from Jude Law’s spokesperson, Jude is going to be a daddy for the fourth time. What’s totally mysterious is no one is quite sure who this woman is – and Jude’s spokesperson leaves her unnamed. Jude has three children with ex-wife Sadie Frost – Rafferty, Iris and Rudy – and he was also stepfather to Sadie’s oldest child, son Finlay. Jude’s spokesperson says that this love child is the product of “a relationship last year” that is now over. Jude also wants to make clear that he will be “a fully supportive part of the child’s life” and that the child is due “in the fall of this year”.

Jude Law’s spokesperson has released the following statement exclusively to Entertainment Weekly and ew.com.

“Jude Law can confirm that, following a relationship last year, he has been advised that he is to be the father of a child due in the fall of this year. Mr. Law is no longer in a relationship with the individual concerned but he intends to be a fully supportive part of the child’s life. This is an entirely private matter and no other statements will be made.”

Law, 36, is currently single and has three children with his former wife, Sadie Frost. He will appear on Broadway in Hamlet, which opens in October, and will star opposite Robert Downey Jr. in the movie Sherlock Holmes, opening Dec. 25.

In the fall of this year? And the relationship ended last year? That’s cutting it pretty close… it basically means that this woman got pregnant just as she and Jude were breaking up, probably in December. I did a little sleuthing (because Jude Law was in Sleuth, remember?) through the Celebitchy archives, and all I can find from that time frame are multiple reports that Jude and his ex-wife Sadie Frost might be getting back together. The two of them, plus the kids, even went on holiday together over Christmas. But of course, it’s not Sadie. If it was Sadie, Jude’s people would have just come out and said it. But this is a real mystery. Oh, well. I suppose we’ll just have to respect Jude’s privacy, and the privacy of this mysterious woman. That is, until the British papers uncover who she is.

UPDATE: The Daily Mail is reporting the rumor that this pregnancy is the result of “a Christmas fling.” They also say that, “The relationship happened when he was working on the set of new movie Sherlock Holmes in New York over Christmas,according to the Daily Mirror. The mother-to-be is seven months pregnant.” Shocking! My theory: she’s someone not in the public eye whatsoever – she’s most likely someone on the crew, or an extra or something.
