Lindsay Lohan called out for “saving 40 children” lies

Last week, Lindsay Lohan went to India for a long-promoted trip to fill a BBC documentary about child trafficking. Most of the concerns many people had about an official BBC documentary unit and a seemingly legit charity associating themselves with a crackhead like Lindsay came to fruition just hours after Lindsay had landed in India. Lindsay announced on her Twitter page that “Over 40 children saved so far… Within one day’s work… This is what life is about… Doing THIS is a life worth living!!!” Granted, for those sticklers, Lindsay didn’t claim that she saved 40 children, but it was insinuated. And that was enough for everyone to get majorly pissed at Lindsay. Apparently, these “40 children” were saved before Lindsay even arrived.

An Indian charity has accused Lindsay Lohan, the Hollywood actress, of claiming to have helped to rescue 40 child labourers in New Delhi when she was not actually in the country

The star of Mean Girls, who went to India to make a BBC documentary about child trafficking, appeared to claim she had rescued the children in just one day and was now changing the world “one child at a time”.

But according to the charity which organized the raid, neither Lohan, 23, nor the BBC, were present.

In a series of posts on Twitter, Lohan, who has undergone treatment for alcohol abuse, appeared to boast of her role in the rescue and suggested that it had changed her life.

“Over *40 children saved* so far…… Within one day’s work…… This is what life is about….. Doing THIS is a life worth living!!!” she said. She later added: “Focusing on celebrities and lies is so disconcerting, when we can be changing the world one child at a time…. hope everyone can see that.” Her comments caused a stir in India and anger among those who led the raid.

A leading social activist and lawyer, known only as Bhuwan, of the campaign group Bachpan Bachao Andolan, accused Lohan of portraying dangerous child rescue operations as superficial events, which could be carried out in a day by passing celebrities.

The raids, which involved two months of planning by local police and magistrates, were on 15 workshops in central New Delhi where children as young as seven were making mirrored ornaments for export. Some of the children said the traffickers had paid their parents 2,000 rupees (£25), while other parents had handed over their children for promises of payments which were not made.

All worked from 8am to 1am the following morning, but only some were paid. Those who had been working for several years received 800 rupees per month (£10) while others were paid just 200 rupees.

According to Bhuwan, they were freed on Tuesday, hours before Lohan arrived in India and a day before she and her BBC Three film crew visited the Ashram rehabilitation centre where the children were taken before being returned to their families. “She was not even in the country when this raid happened,” he said.

“We’ll be complaining to the BBC and talking to our lawyers … Would Lohan know where these workshops are?”

Ruchira Gupta, an anti-trafficking campaigner, said: “If celebrities do it to get publicity then they are trivialising child-trafficking.”

A BBC spokesman said: “Lindsay Lohan has just completed filming in India for a BBC Three project on child trafficking. We would like to stress that she did not say she was present at the raid, this is a misinterpretation. She was merely referring to a raid that happened connected to child trafficking – the subject of the programme.”

“It is not uncommon for well known faces to be involved in current affairs programmes and often helps engage younger audiences with subjects they don’t traditionally go to such as international affairs. The final documentary will have all the hallmarks of BBC content – and will be high quality, informative and engaging.”

[From The Telegraph]

Like everything else, when Lindsay sees something she likes, she takes it – whether it be a fur coat, millions of dollars worth of jewelry, or credit for months of tireless work by a childrens’ advocacy group. Even though none of this surprises me in the least, I’m glad someone is calling Lindsay out on her bullsh-t. I’m no so happy that people put Lindsay in the position where she could lie and take credit for the work this organization is doing – when are people going to realize that they shouldn’t work with her?

Lindsay is just pathological. She needs psychiatric help.

  2. embertine says:

It’s kind of astonishing that anyone gives her work at all, even with the inevitable publicity that follows in her wake.

  3. Lway says:

    Linsay cannot even save herself

  4. lin234 says:

It didn’t sound plausible when this first came out. Saving someone isn’t as simple as just going in a place and helping them escape. There are so many other factors in play. For instance, some of these people who are being trafficked are sold by their family members or someone close to them in their village. The handlers of the captives will use the threat of harming those close to them as a way to keep them under control.

Then comes the logistics what will happen once you save the person so they won’t be sold off again or eventually succumb to doing what skills they have to survive. I’m not going to pretend I know a whole lot about this subject but what I do know is that often times the best way to save a person is to take down the abuser. And to do it legally, it takes time to build a case, etc. Also, sometimes the local police are in bed with the abusers so it takes time to find a legal force to trust. All around, it’s an ugly situation.

Shame on Lindsey for trying to take credit for something other people have been working so hard for. THIS type of behavior is exactly way people don’t feel sorry for her or root for her to have a second chance. As messed up as Britney Spears was, she never pulled half the tacky things Lindsey has done and that’s saying a lot.

I recommend this book, Not for Sale: The Return of the Global Slave Trade–and How We Can Fight It, for anyone interested in learning more about human trafficking.

  5. Peach says:

I don’t remember who–but in the first post on this subject a poster called it. Nail. On. The. Head.
She is going to trivialize a desperate situation.

sad. turns out she met our expectations.

  6. Firestarter says:

Next, she will have been working on a cure for cancer.

    That Linds is a genius!

  7. Lway says:

LOL@ Firestarter! Yes she’s just short of walking on water!

  8. Roma says:

Thanks lin234, I had heard about the book before but didn’t pick it up. You just reminded me so I ordered it on Amazon.

  9. Kermit says:

Nonsense. She did not say SHE saved anyone. These are not specific statements in the first person. I interpret her twitter statements as stating this type of work done is meaningful. She’s more reporting on something than claiming to be responsible for it. She’s also making the point that the media should be paying far less attention to her and more attention to bigger issues.

  10. Twinky says:

Utter famewhore, will she stop at nothing to attract attention to herself? She’s pathologically deluded and the sooner she gets some serious psychological attention the better. A pox on her parents for creating such a monster.

  11. Firestarter says:

@Kermit- Oh please! She WANTS the media to pay attention to her. If she didn’t why post her activities on Twitter?! Just do the documentary and STFU if she wants no attention.

This idiot would die without attention being paid to her. That is her life’s blood.

  12. Bodhi says:

I can’t understand why anyone would believe her in the 1st place! She can’t even save herself!

  13. princess pea says:

I baffled at the BBC for choosing to work with her at all. Have they been under a rock for the past year? I agree that it “helps engage younger audiences with subjects they don’t traditionally go to such as international affairs” to have celebs attached… but THIS ONE? Are there still a lot of young people looking up to her? Maybe they just wanted to make sure the crackhead community was aware of the problems of child trafficking; those suckers are notoriously oblivious.

  14. waldemar says:

    Kermit, she said

Over *40 children saved* so far…… Within one day’s work……

She did mean herself, she was just there, one day and already 40 children saved.

And yes the BBC could have better hired Emma Watson or something.

  15. birdie says:

Lindsay would kill herself if the good people of twitter stopped “following” her and started paying more attention to people who are changing the world for the better.

A famewhore is a famewhore… And Lindsay is nothing if not a famewhore.

  16. bella says:

I find it very contradictory that BBC states the final documentary “will be high quality, informative, and entertaining” and chose to work with Lindsay. I think the BBC’s and Lindsay’s ideas of “high-quality” and “entertainment” are vastly different. Perhaps they hadn’t heard of Lindsay and her antics? *sarcasm*

  17. diva says:

I thought her original plan was to stay there over a month to do this documentary, and she is back already? She probably couldn’t stand to be away from her drugs that long. Glad she got called out for lying about saving children, that is pretty low.

  18. CB Rawks says:

Keep dreaming, Kermit. She absolutely was taking credit.
    She’s trash.

  19. Kermit says:

    Waldemar

She was reporting on a one-day raid that took over 40 children out of a situation. I don’t attribute anyone claiming an action unless they say it in the first person or say that a particular person, persons, or organization was responsible for it. There are no specifics here, she didn’t name who or what she was talking about. Her major point was how this is meaningful work vs. an interest in what goes on in the lives of any publicly known person. I’m not praising Ms. Lohan. I’m looking at her tweet statement vs. how it is being represented and interpreted. As for Lindsay, I don’t know her personally or have any dealing with her. I think she most likely is neither as bad or as good as her detractors or defenders make her out to be.

  20. Cheekemunkey says:

BBC must’ve had a tight budget and decided to go bargain bin with Lohan.

“Within one’s day’s work.” Good one.

  21. princess pea says:

@ Kermit – You don’t think the implication of “so far” and “within one day’s work” was that she had a role in it? Has Bachpan Bachao Andolan just been established? That was their first action? Because that would make sense, with the so far and the one day… Wait, no, that’s not right.

  22. Kermit says:

Princess Pea. I see no implication of self-involvement. Twitter is a casual place to place short statements of how one feels in the moment. A snapshot. She probably got some information about what happened in the operation and relayed it to her twitter followers as it was going on. The “one day” and “so far” is within a certain time frame, and all of this is new to her and she seemed moved by it. Her comments are overly scrutinized and people are misrepresenting her by saying she said she saved the kids. As Celebitchy admits “Granted, for those sticklers, Lindsay didn’t claim that she saved 40 children, but it was insinuated.” I don’t think it was insinuated and nothing in her statement proves that she claims any involvement in saving anyone.

  23. jaundicemachine says:

I’m sure the irony of exploiting 40 previously enslaved children for one’s own PR campaign is lost on a self-absorbed narcissist like Lindsay Lohan, but I’m glad the rest of the world is keen to it.

She made a huge difference in India – by leaving less than three days after arriving. I’m sure that small favor won’t be forgotten by anyone. Especially the Indian Visa Center.

She was a sorry excuse for a human being before all this, but at least she had her upbringing as a justification for her self-important behavior.

There is no excuse for exploiting and trivializing child labor laws/the sex trade industry – but attempting to make yourself a martyr in the process is abhorrently vile. She’s on the same level as the slime who enable and perpetuate said sexual slavery. Truly disgusting.

Congratulations Lindsay Lohan – you have officially failed at life.

  24. Whitey Fisk says:

    That article is heartbreaking. Seven-year-olds working 8am – 1am…

    I’m speechless.

  25. DrM says:

Yup she’s officially completely appalling…Lindsay concentrate on ‘saving’ yourself first yeah? You could start with some integrity…

  26. CB Rawks says:

“I see no implication of self-involvement.”

Wow. That kind of blinkered stubbornness is kind of remarkable.

Lindsays says: “Over *40 children saved* so far…… Within one day’s work…… This is what life is about….. Doing THIS is a life worth living!!!”

I suppose she doesn’t refer to HER life, here? Just some other (worthwhile) person’s life?
    Notice, she says DOING.

  27. Munkey says:

Jaundice: Well said and spot on.

  28. Goddess711 says:

Maybe Michael Lohan will have a lightbulb moment and try to sell Lindsay. I doubt she could do the mirrored decorations thing but the prostitution might be up her alley…

  29. Kermit says:

CB Ms. Lohan could be talking about what is happening as something people do in life as opposed to the barrage of press she gets about her personal and social life as really mattering in the world. The WHO that is doing what she’s reporting is not specified. It is irresponsible to claim someone said something that they did not say and any implication concluded is mere speculation on the part of the reader/interpreter. Those in the press claiming she said anything other than what she actually said in any headline is misleading and reveals a lack of integrity. This is a tweet, not any official statement and should not be under such scrutiny. The BBC’s comment supports Ms. Lohan.

  30. You Go Girl says:

Stark, raving, mad, drug f****ed lunatic!

  31. lizzy says:

If more people did what this man did, by calling her out for her bullshit publicly instead of keeping quiet about it, she might quit bullshitting so much and realize what a loser she really is right now. By people I don’t mean Michael Lohan, Dina or other famewhores that use calling her out for fame and money. I mean people she steals from, works with (for poor work habits), tries to put drinks on their tabs without permission etc.

  32. Codzilla says:

I despise this pig. She’s a graceless, shameless, and horrifically self-important piece of garbage.

  33. la chica says:

Once BBC-3 wiped the egg off its face, it initiated the defense of La Liar, saying that she never claimed herself to have saved the 40 children. YES SHE DID. She also implied that it was as easy peasy, all in a day’s work. Work that she had done.

PROBLEM: If this is not what her twit was intended to imply, why did she delete it after getting chewed out? Why didn’t she just leave not only that one up but the related ones reinforcing the misrepresentation?

I just read something on another gossip site that totally sums up the problem with La Liar: “Using your status to bring attention to a cause is admirable. Using a cause to bring attention to yourself is not.” I could not have said it better.

This sociopath needs to be chased out of Hollywood and back to a gutter in Long Island where she truly belongs. No offense to gutters.

  34. GatsbyGal says:

She needs to be called out on her bullshit more often.

  35. Bellaluna says:

Kermit are you a man-looking lesbian dj? Oh wait a minute, even she has stopped defending Linds at this point. She is a self involved, delusional train wreck.

  36. Firestarter says:

Thank God Lindsay finally got a publicist in Kermit.

  37. NicoleAM says:

To be honest, I was surprised she made it to India…but then when I heard she flew back after 3 days I said, “There’s the Linds we all know and love!” She needs to focus on getting herself healthy and not on keeping herself relevant. And yes, it did sound like she was taking credit for having a hand in saving 40 children.

  38. forreal? says:

    @goddess711
interesting you said that….. ma & pop lohan sold their child to hollyweird a long time ago- and we all see the results. the sad thing is the mom is trying to do the same with her younger daughter. but it’s cool cuz it’s for millions of dollars i suppose. smh x 100

  39. Danielle says:

She is obviously strung out in this pic, tight jaw, bug eyes you can see through the glasses, and that grip on her scarf all look very “cokeish”

  40. skeptical says:

i read that tweet as insinuating she had somehow had a role to play in the saving those kids.. so yea.. i read it that way and was all shocked “what? she didn’t really say that?”

since then the tweet is gone.. seems she got a brain cell to work..
