I don’t even know where to f-cking start with this video. It’s so… gross, disgusting, tragic, sad, dry-heave-y, and insane, I don’t even have the words. Here’s the background: after one of Miley Cyrus’s concerts, she and her family and entourage are backstage and someone is shooting footage of everyone. Miley’s 9-year-old sister Noah, perhaps sensing that a camera around, decides to parade herself around, performing Akon’s “Smack That” (sample lyrics: “Smack that, all on the floor. Smack that, give me some more. Smack that, ’til you get sore. Smack that, oh ooh”) while smacking her own hip and butt, shaking her hips, pouting her lips and tossing her hair, all while focused on performing for the camera.
It’s obviously a performance she has practiced many, many times before. Oh, and Us Weekly says Miley is “encouraging” Noah to perform on the video, but I can’t make that part out. It’s obvious someone is trying to pull Noah away at the beginning, and then whoever it is just lets her do her thing. Lainey Gossip sort of went off on this sh-t this morning, but I think the video kind of speaks for itself.
I will say this though – I wouldn’t mind if Billy Ray Cyrus got some serious sh-t for this. Miley too, but ultimately, Miley’s not Noah’s parent. This “performance” is only the latest chapter in what will likely be another decade of Noah’s continuing inappropriateness. And, this comes less than two months after Noah “dressed up” as a dominatrix-prostitute for Halloween. This is what comes from having a mullet, I swear to God. Billy Ray needs to have his goddamn head examined. The mother too.

A friend of mine actually went to a Miley Cyrus concert with his kid and he said it was horrendous and lip synched, very little stage effects, but the kids were screaming the entire time. So Miley Cyrus is some kind of phenom that you would have to be a teenager to understand. It’s a shame that the parents let both Miley and Noah go around acting and looking like sexualized images of grown women, considering the influence they have over kids.
Seriously, why would anyone encourage this kind of behavior? This is not cute or funny just effed up.
I will not watch the video, but based on the description alone, I think this is completely inappropriate for ANY 9 year old girl to do, and even worse for her. These parents know that photos and videos of their family like this end up online for the whole world to see, and there are a lot of creepy people out there. Why on earth would you allow this???

I know and respect this site’s policy forbidding critique of young children’s looks, but each time I have seen pictures of Noah I’ve privately felt sad for her that she is so unattractive, especially since her sister is in the paparazzi spotlight.
Looking at these pictures, though– especially the one where she is standing next to a peer with no makeup on– I’ve realized that Noah is actually quite a cute little girl under the garish lipstick, overstyled hair and heavy eye makeup. Why on earth do her parents allow her to go out looking like a drunk did her face? There is nothing wrong with her features– it’s the hideous cosmetics and bad styling that are ugly, not her. Why have the Cyruses spackled her instead of just letting her be a kid?
Calm down people. Its like when little kids say F*** people laugh and then act all upset about the child’s ‘language’. ok- while that is inappropriate and disturbing, the child clearly doesn’t understand what she is singing about and the meaning of the song. She is simply mocking something she has seen (I’m not saying that makes this ok) and doing this to impress her older sister (who suggests she does this little “performance”). This is the same as those 2 kids dancing around to Apple Bottom Jeans (which I find much more disturbing given how young those kids were).
However, the bottom line is that, this child clearly needs better supervision, morals and role models. She is a little disaster waiting to happen.

Okay. I’m not exactly defending her or anything, but I had a flashback to when I was 9 years old and I absolutely loved the band KISS. I was completely obsessed with the song “I Was Made For Loving You,” and would dance around in KISS makeup in my home. My parents weren’t exactly discouraging me- in fact, they thought it was hilarious.
Not quite the same thing as “Smack Thant,” I know, but KISS had some pretty suggestive lyrics and I knew every one of them. However, if anyone had videotaped me doing this stuff and put it out for public viewing, I would have been mortified. I didn’t know what the song was about, not really. I just liked the beat and I thought Paul Stanley was cool.

God, this reminds of when I was working as a checkout chick. I had a mum come in with two kids, and her daughter, who would’ve been around 6, was singing this song. You know, I got so mad at my parents when I was in 4th-8th grade because they wouldn’t let me watch MTV. And the whole time I lived with them, they were extremely careful about what I wore. I can remember my mom making me march back up to my room to put on a different top, or a longer skirt or shorts. Now I understand why they were how they were, and am so glad that I turned out appropriate and relatively innocent.

Dad’s twitter, or Miley’s website, or YouTube? I think that bit of information will be really revealing. If it was sort of snuck out there by someone other than a Cyrus/Cyrus-employee, I’ll be a little more forgiving (the whole in-privacy-with-your-family distinction) than if it DEFINITELY went up with Mommy and Daddy’s knowledge.

I have a few points to make.
1. There’s a huge difference between dancing like this in private and in public. All of you who are arguing that you used to dance around as a child too, I doubt you did it in front of a camera, nevermind out in public AND dressed like that.
2. To those saying that she is too young to understand the words so her actions are innocent, I call bullshit. This girl hangs out with Miley and her friends probably ALL THE TIME. She does not hang out with her fellow 9 year olds. Every picture I see of her, she’s in the company of teenagers. That said, I think she is completely aware of the meaning behind this song.
