Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden welcome son Cardinal

Congratulations are in order for Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden! Cameron and Benji, who have been married since 2015, shared on Friday that they recently welcomed their son Cardinal. Cardinal joins his four-year-old sisterm Raddix Chloe Wildflower Madden, who was born on December 30, 2019. And while the Diaz-Maddens announced Cardinal’s birth via an artsy post on Instagram, they didn’t reveal his actual birthday or give any details surrounding his birth. Just like with Raddix’s birth, Cam and Benji did not post a picture of the newborn, saying that they wanted to respect their son’s privacy.

“We are blessed and excited to announce the birth of our Son, Cardinal Madden,” the couple wrote. “He is awesome and We are all so happy he is here!”

Cameron, 51, and Benji, 45, declined to share photos of their child for his “safety and privacy,” though they assured fans that he’s “really cute.”

“We are feeling so blessed and grateful,” they added. “Sending much love from our fam to yours. Best wishes and Good Afternoon!!”

The There’s Something About Mary star and the musician are already parents to 4-year-old daughter Raddix, who they welcomed in late 2019.

Since becoming a mom, Cameron has shifted her focus from her acting career to family. As she previously explained, “When you’re doing something that you know and you’ve done well and you know how it works—and it’s consumed your whole life for so long—it’s kind of a nice thing to kind of go, ‘You know what? Let me just step back for a second, take a look at what the whole picture looks like for me, and what are the things that I could do better and be more engaged with that would make me feel more whole?'”

“And I did that,” she told CBS News in 2022, explaining that “everybody only has 100 percent” to give.

“You always have to figure out how you’re going to divide that 100 percent,” Cameron continued, “to spread it to all that parts of your life that matter.”

I totally, completely understand and respect their wish for privacy. People always say it’s a game-changer to go from one to two children. In my experience, it was definitely a big adjustment, but my kids have a similar age difference as Raddix and Cardinal, and having an older kid who was able to use the potty and get himself dressed was definitely helpful. On the other hand, after four years as an only child, it can also be difficult to adjust to sharing attention. That was what we worried about the most. However, four is also a great age for an older sibling to be brought in to help out in their very important big sister/brother role.

So, thoughts on the name Cardinal? We don’t know if there’s any meaning behind it or not. They don’t owe it to us, but I’d still love to know regardless. As far as celebrity names go, it’s pretty tame. Are they big St. Louis baseball fans? Is it for the bird because they’re honoring a loved one who’s passed away? Is Cameron giving a nod to her Catholic roots? We don’t know Cardinal’s middle name, but as someone pointed out on Reddit, if his full name is “Cardinal Benjamin” Madden, then he can go by the nickname “Cardi B.” Not gonna lie, I warmly chuckled at that one. Anyway, congrats again to Cameron, Benji, and Raddix. Welcome to family-of-four life.

I like the name Cardinal! I’m actually surprised it’s not more common, like Robin. It’s certainly better than Raddix (which still sounds like a pest control product), but he’s a rocker and it’s definitely not the worst of the rockstar baby names.

I am a big fan of Cameron Diaz as an actress. But every time I hear her kids name I think I misheard someone say “radish”. Honestly, it’s my least favorite celeb baby name.

Raddix! I totally forgot their daughter’s name, I like it, it’s original and fun. Cardinal less so, but I’m from somewhere with a high-profile notorious Catholic abuser so hearing “Cardinal” for years in that context alongside awful, horrific evidence provided to courts gives me associations they obviously don’t have with their beautiful innocent little boy. Extremely curious what nickname you can make from it!

Congrats to them, they seem like such a lovely family.

Just happy she stepped back and is enjoying her life on her own terms with her husband.

Cardinal has a cousin named Sparrow, bet they’ll be close like their twin fathers.

I actually really like Raddix (idk why but it reminds me of Beatrix Potter?), and Cardinal is cute too, but shortened they both sound a little strange — Rad and Card? Unsure.

Congrats to them! I kinda like the name Cardinal, that’s one I’ve not yet heard for a boy.

They’ve always struck me as an odd couple, not really sure how to explain it. They seem happy and that’s all that matters!

Congrats to them ! I cannot imagine taking care of a newborn at 51, I was 35 when I welcomed my first and it was so exhausting, I still haven’t recovered from all the missed sleep. I’m sure they will have a lot of help though.

    Congrats to them!
My criteria for baby names was a saint or a queen\king with that name. I am boring AF when it comes to baby names.

    I’m guessing surrogacy, right?
