Fox News lied about bringing in Donald Trump’s cultists for their ‘town hall’

Fox News platformed both of the presidential candidates yesterday. Kamala Harris sat down for a one-on-one with Bret Baier, who was disrespectful to VP Harris and was constantly interrupting her and trying to talk over her. VP Harris held her own, and Baier furiously tried to do damage control on-air after the interview. Meanwhile, Fox News hosted a “town hall” event for Donald Trump, in what was supposed to be a focus on women and women’s issues. This was not a town hall, it was Fox News organizing and platforming a MAGA rally – they brought in Trump supporters, not undecided voters. Trump was allowed to spew lies without fact-checking to his cult members and Fox News decided this was a “town hall.”

Fox News hosted an all-women town hall with former President Donald Trump, billed as an opportunity for female voters to ask the Republican candidate questions that matter to them. The Georgia town hall, where Trump took questions on reproductive laws, transgender rights and other issues, aired Wednesday morning. But Fox News did not disclose that the female audience it selected for the event was packed with local Republican supporters and the network edited its broadcast to remove some of their vocal advocacy of Trump.

The Georgia Federation of Republican Women wrote on its Facebook page Wednesday that the group helped host the event, posting photos from the venue and writing they were “Super excited for the opportunity of hosting this event right here in Georgia!” Shortly after CNN reached out to the group and Fox News about their role, the post was edited to state they were “excited for the opportunity of attending this event right here in Georgia!” The group’s president, Pam Lightsey, later denied that it had hosted the event.

The Republican Women of Forsyth County also posted a video from the event showing attendees chatting with Trump and Fox News host Harris Faulkner.

A Fox News spokesperson told CNN the event was not hosted by any Republican group and that it was the network’s event alone. But the right-wing outlet did not disclose the makeup of the audience in its press release announcing the town hall or in Faulkner’s introduction, stating only that it was “held with an audience entirely composed of women.”

The first question posed to Trump at the town hall came from a woman identified as Lisa, who asked the former president a question about the economy. The network did not disclose that Lisa is also the president of the Fulton County Republican Women group.

Some of the town hall attendees made it clear they were supporters of the former president, either in their questioning or in their attire. “I want to thank you for coming to a room full of women the current administration would consider domestic terrorists,” a woman named Alicia said to laughter from the audience before a question about foreign policy. But a portion of Alicia’s question was edited by Fox News to remove her admission that she was voting for Trump. “I proudly cast my vote for you today. I hope they count it,” she added, according to an audio recording from a CNN reporter in attendance.

It’s utterly bizarre to watch Fox News lie about this so blatantly – the jig is up, we know that it’s not a real news network and we know that Fox exists as a Republican propaganda arm. Just be honest about it – “we filled this town hall with local Republican women and we’re going to show you all of the wingnuttery, in all of its Nazi glory.” As for the substance of the event… Trump claimed to be the “father of IVF.” True story, if Trump wins, IVF will be outlawed in at least half the country. That’s part of Project 2025.

At this point, Fox is a Trump propaganda network. Unfortunately, it’s not surprising that to get him to appear and stay for the entire show they’re willing to turn this into a Trump-friendly infomercial.

I don’t know if Kamala Harris is going to change any minds via her Fox appearance , but huge respect for her bravery. From excerpts, she handled it well.

Information from my personal bubble: All the expats I know of have voted over here. Many of my Democrat and Never Trump relatives have as well. Unfortunately, so have my Trump relatives apparently. These people complained about early voting and people like me voting from abroad and only showed up in person: they’ve changed their minds on this. So just warning you that early voting might not be as Democrat heavy as it was last time and I am pleading with you to vote.

I don’t know if the Kamala “interrogation” as if she were a hostile witness will be a separate post, but I thought it was pretty obvious that Baier thought his job was to do the debate which Trump is too scared and impaired to do. But Baier had an advantage that Trump wouldn’t have in a real debate: he was also the moderator and used prepared notes. Even so, Kamala left a greasy puddle in his chair. 💙💙💙

Glad to hear it. Just saw the headlines about the Kamala interview on Faux News and decided I didn’t need to see it. Kinda disappointed by the CBS 60 Minutes interview. Also disappointed by Jon Stewart years ago on the Daily Show when he referred to Brett Baier as one of the decent straight news guys at Faux – say what? After trying Faux News on and off over the years, I concluded Shepard Smith was the only straight talking head on the network, but then he left. IMHO the best Kamala interview was done by Howard Stern, which I found on youtube for free even though I’m a Sirius subscriber.

Which one of Trump’s children was conceived via IVF? Nothing’s wrong if he used that method but his party wants to get rid of it.

    • Libra says:

Barron? Wouldn’t surprise me if he agreed to have one child with Melania only if it were a son.

      • Busybody says:

I don’t think he was saying “IVF made me a father” but rather “I made IVF”—the man is probably confused about what IVF is but knows that he’s polling poorly about it and wants to claim that he “fathered” it so people will stop criticizing him about it. He’s not very bright.

  4. Hypocrisy says:

The amount that Fox had to pay for the lies and misinformation they spread about the elections and voting machines hasn’t changed there tactics at all.. I don’t understand why anyone still watches them or why they are considered a reliable source on anything. The $700 judgement proves that Fox blatantly lied to the public to deceive them, they should have lost their broadcasting license and been shut down. Hopefully people vote blue straight down their ballots and maybe we can have a democratic majority in the house and senate to investigate the corruption, lying and misleading the public should not be legal for any organization masquerade as news.

    • Hypocrisy says:

      $700M oops

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Hypocrisy, and SmartMatic still hasn’t gotten to trial, yet. There had reached the end of their money to continue to fight it (they stated they wanted a trial) and someone wealthy stepped up to pay. He said it was a good investment. I can’t wait for the one. I think they were asking for more than $2 billion.

Time to bring back the Fairness Doctrine that Reagan got rid of. I am so sick of these propaganda machines bringing division in our country.

    • Alice B. Tokeless says:

I’ve been screaming this for decades! And yet, rare is the occasion I see it mentioned as the beginning of the Foxes and the Rushes, flinging their rage-filled, racist dung through the airwaves with reckless abandon. I would love to see all of us bring this up frequently to help educate the younger ones that once upon a time, the Foxes and the Rushes would be fined every time they lied, and would have to formally retract on air. As such, they would have been bankrupt within a week. Fox et al exist because Saint Ronnie (gag; I know people who still call him that) 86’d the Fairness Doctrine. The more people talk about it, demand it, the sooner our politicians will be afraid not to address it.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

Alice B. Tokeless, I’m hoping there are more lawsuits against them. I also hope they lose their license, which is for entertainment and not news.

      • IdlesAtCranky says:

We absolutely need to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine, and update it to cover cable & internet news & “news entertainment” as well.

I believe there’s a strong legal argument to be made that such a change is justifiable in the public’s interest, much in the same vein as the doctrine of Eminent Domain is justified.

Even if the Fairness Doctrine were only reinstated in its original form, regulating the broadcast news outlets would provide a valuable balance and backstop to the BS that unregulated outlets currently shovel by the mega-ton!

  6. Agnes says:

“FOX News Lied” is an evergreen headline. What are they trying to do to our country???

    • Brassy Rebel says:

Kamala couldn’t say it but Fox News dishonesty is a major reason this election is still close. People who get their news mainly from Fox have no idea how horrible Trump is. They invented sanewashing.

    • IdlesAtCranky says:

Primarily Faux News is a chaos agent, because chaos is profitable for the rich and especially for the uber-rich.

Secondarily, they’re pushng us toward fascism and/or Christian Nationalism, became they’re owned and funded by rich white men who want to rule us like kings.

The uber-rich and the bigoted authoritarians among us have long since figured out that democracy is fundamentally antithetical to their goal of gaining and keeping power.

  7. girl_ninja says:

Madam Harris more than held her own with Bret Bitter, she called him out and put him in his place. She killed it.

  8. Lau says:

At what point did they collectively thought that it would be a good idea to have this orange moron talk about these issues ?

  9. lizbert says:

I think the “best” (?) part of this event was that even in a completely rigged situation, Traitor Tot STILL couldn’t give answers that sounded remotely responsive, intelligent, or presidential. The Harris campaign will get ad clips FOR DAYS from his verbal diarrhea 😀
