Ben Foster filed for divorce from Laura Prepon after six years of marriage

Laura Prepon and Ben Foster were together for eight years, and married for six years. They have two children together and, if my timeline investigation is correct, Laura left Scientology when she and Ben got serious about each other and she was pregnant with their first child. It was an open question for many years, whether she was still a Scientologist, but she carefully spoke about her exit back in 2021, saying that she hadn’t “practiced Scientology” in five years. Well, I don’t know what all of this means, but Ben Foster and Laura Prepon are getting a divorce.

Laura Prepon and Ben Foster are going their separate ways after five years of marriage.

According to paperwork obtained by PEOPLE, Foster, 44, filed for divorce from the That ’70s Show star, also 44, and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason behind their separation. He stated the two were no longer able to “live together successfully as husband and wife.”

The X Men: The Last Stand actor noted the former couple’s date of separation as Sept. 9, 2023, and asked the court to enforce their 2018 prenuptial agreement and make an “equitable division” of their marital assets and debt. Foster also requested the court to incorporate their “marital dissolution agreement and agreed parenting plan” into their final decree of divorce. When it comes to their attorney fees, the actor asked for each party to pay their own fees and divide any other court costs equally.

Prepon and Foster were longtime friends before they began dating in July 2016. A few months later, the two got engaged in October 2016 and welcomed their daughter Ella in summer 2017. The couple went on to tie the knot in June 2018. Then in 2020, the couple welcomed their second child and announced the news with a post on Instagram, alongside a photo of her newborn son.

The timing is sort of interesting because a lot of people are filing for divorce after the election. One of the things on the Republican agenda is ending no-fault divorces, so that the government can legally bind women to their husbands, even if the marriages are terrible or abusive. Now, do I think that was a factor here? Eh. He says they separated last year. And they’ve always been sort of a strange couple, I’m actually not all that surprised that they’ve split? But yeah, interesting timing. I hope Laura is okay with all of this.

I remember when he left Robin Wright and people thought it was some Scientology coup to put him with Laura. Those were the wild days. I also remember Ben Foster was the hot new thing and I can’t recall what Hi last saw him in, although admittedly, I don’t keep up with everything.

Divorce law is 100% handled by the states. Individual states can and do take different approaches, New York didn’t have true no-fault divorce until 2010. I assume they live in California, where no fault divorce isn’t going anywhere.

So was slavery, until we had a civil war. I wouldn’t assume that federalism is off the table.

      • Lucy2 says:

Yeah I think the “states’ rights!” crew is going to do everything they can to undermine states’ rights and put blanket federal laws in place.

      • Ciotog says:

In the news today: Stephen Miller is planning to use red state National Guards to forcibly deport blue state migrant residents. States’ rights mean nothing to these people.

I wouldn’t drink the poisoned kool aid the repubs are peddling. Everything is on the table now. They have all 3 branches.

I think marriage may become obsolete. And I’m someone who always wanted to fall in love and be married. Announce to the world that this is my person in word and bond. I don’t think people feel safe enough or trust the institution anymore.

The only thing I have is I can’t believe they’ve been together so long? I honestly thought it was just like a hot second ago that he and Robin Wright split.

On a personal, non celebrity note, my spouse and I separated in late 2022, but planned to stay legally married as long as it was beneficial for us because it made some things easier with our children.

We’ve already decided to officially divorce ahead of Trump taking office. So, it’s definitely happening and certainly not that weird.

Just weighing in to say that his mustache is terrible.

Conversely, she is REALLY pretty. That hair/skin tone/makeup coloring can be hard to pull off, but she’s crushing it.

  7. Sarah B says:

Interesting that their date of separation was two days after Danny Masterson’s sentencing date.

He can always get a job as the straight-man in a comedy routine.
