Elon Musk spent a quarter of a billion dollars to get Donald Trump elected

My theory is that MAGAland is actually disappointed with how half of the country responded to the election. They thought Democrats would do their own insurrection, or failing that, they believed they would be drinking lib tears. Our attitude of “fine, whatever, the leopards will eat your ugly faces too” isn’t satisfying to them. I don’t even feel particularly afraid, even though I know it’s going to be a total f–king sh-tshow. Now, I cannot wait for leopards to eat Elon Musk’s face. Everyone knows that Musk and Donald Trump will have a spectacular falling out at some point, and I will laugh my ass off if it happens during the transition. Speaking of, new FEC filings reveal that Musk spent a quarter of a billion dollars just to get his orange daddy the presidency.

Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, spent over a quarter of a billion dollars in the final months of this year’s election to help Donald J. Trump win the presidency, federal filings revealed on Thursday. The sum is a fraction of Mr. Musk’s wealth. But it is nonetheless a staggering amount from a single donor, who poured the cash into allied groups and is now playing a role in helping shape the next administration.

One of Mr. Musk’s most brazen moves — which emerged only on Thursday — was spending $20 million to prop up a super PAC that was named after Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the late liberal Supreme Court justice, but that sought to help Mr. Trump by softening his anti-abortion positions.

Mr. Musk put the lion’s share of the money he donated toward his main super PAC, America PAC, cutting three checks for $25 million each in the final weeks of the race, according to the new filings with the Federal Election Commission. Mr. Musk also spent $40.5 million on legally controversial checks to voters in swing states who signed a petition in support of the Constitution.

Over the course of the race, he gave America PAC a staggering $239 million in both cash and in-kind contributions.

[From The NY Times]

The Times’ framing here is predictably stupid: “to prop up a super PAC that was named after Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the late liberal Supreme Court justice, but that sought to help Mr. Trump by softening his anti-abortion positions.” The RBG PAC was blatantly lying to low-information voters about Trump’s positions on abortion and reproductive rights. As for the money Musk spent… he’s up to his hairplugs in criminality. Musk did the math that if he spent $250 million to get an orange fascist elected, Musk could “run” Trump and mold him into the white nationalist leader he wants.

Also: Musk was on the Hill this week and he told reporters that he thinks the government should abandon the $7500 tax credit for electric vehicles. He said: “I think we should get rid of all credits. Take away the subsidies. It will only help Tesla. Also, remove subsidies from all industries!” He has a childlike understanding of government AND he spent a quarter-billion to get a fascist reality star into the White House. As it turns out, no sci-fi writer could have come up with this idiotic reality.

When the Musk-Trump alliance goes down, “YMCA” will be playing.

A bargain to him. Another sign USA democracy is going going gone to the rest of us.

    • UpIn Toronto says:

America needs to repeal Citizens United and limit campaign financing. Otherwise, the presidency will always go to the highest bidder

      • HillaryIsAlwaysRight says:

Amen. But good luck getting that done now. We’re officially in our Oligarch Era.

That boy Musk always carries around is his first son with Grimes. He’s been keeping him away from her for 6 months, in violation of her parental rights. But laws don’t apply to the most wealthy man in the world, right? F*ck Musk.

    • pottymouth pup says:

he spent $750M to earn $54B as a result of his company stock prices surging due to Trump winning the election. All the rich folks are forking money over to and investing in businesses related to Trump and his cronies because that’s how they curry favor. That doesn’t include all the money they’ll make on increased grift and corruption.

Kleptocracy without the secret part. Open and notorious takeover of the government by a billionaire who will use the Oval to further enrich himself and his buddies. It’s all so nauseating and I despise the bootlickers who voted for this.

  3. HeatherC says:

For him, money well spent. He pretty much owns Trump, and through him the American government. He couldn’t run for president himself, but he did the next best thing for him.

I’m hoping the leopards eat all their faces.

That dum fucker tweeted out defund the ACLU.

The ACLU is a nonprofit and does not receive any government funding.

He is so stupid it baffles the mind.

Elon is pretty ignorant but he has money and is easily swayed and that’s what counts for the real people in charge. Same can be said for Trump being easily swayed. Elon and Trump will say and do anything to keep themselves in power, because they know their base is just as ignorant.

  5. Nic919 says:

Citizens United really was the case that set the path to oligarchy on warp speed.

It is no coincidence that many people are not very sad about the health insurance CEO getting killed in broad daylight. The elites are going full robber baron without consequence. Musk is the most obvious one but he isn’t the only one.

  6. Nicole says:

A quarter of a billion dollars from ONE source and there were MULTIPLE PACs supporting Trump. Harris had 1 billion dollars and people are mad at her that she didn’t do enough. Perhaps she was outspent and out maneuvered. We need money out of politics and get rid of this flagrant corruption. This is disgusting.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

Trump’s pacs were coordinating too which is illegal. Dem super pacs follow the law. And your point about MVP spending a billion dollars is an important one. With all the grifting, illegal contributions and illegal coordinating, Trump obviously spent a lot more. Then there is the false flag operation Musk’s people were running in the swing states by faking Kamala ads and mailers and micro targeting them to voters who would be turned off by them. Trump didn’t even need the Russians this time, although you can bet they were doing their part.

    • Kitten says:

Do people really think Kamala didn’t do enough? Ugh. If anything I think she did too much and by that, I mean she was being pulled into too many different directions by PACs and consultants. It felt like they pressured her to use messaging that covered everything from Trump’s fascist threat to affordable housing. She was never able to lean into her law & order background and fully embrace a political brand that felt authentic and comfortable to her.
Overall, she ran a really good campaign in such a short period of time and I will absolutely fight anyone who claims otherwise.

And yes Trump’s PACs coordinated which violates the law but the right does whatever they want so maybe we should explore coordinating PACs next election as well. Fuck it.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

Which is why if she wants to do it, she should have another chance to run with a full runway and her own people. She was an incredible candidate in just 107 days and got more votes than any other candidate in history except Biden and, unfortunately, Trump. The only reason Dems didn’t win the House was a right wing gerrymander in North Carolina. She saved a lot of seats.

  7. FeministGell says:

Oy, the screaming that would arise if a woman showed up to work like this.

    • Old and Tired says:

I’m perplexed by him dragging this one child around as a sort of accessory. Didn’t he bring him to a meeting with a foreign head of state (Erdogan?)? Small children don’t enjoy wearing suits and going to adult meetings. Is there someone off camera who is taking care of him when Elon needs to actually do grown-up stuff? I’m so confused. I know this isn’t important in the long run but at this point I feel like either I’ve lost all sense of reality or reality has changed so much that I’m about to float away into space.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

Musk has 12 children and spent Thanksgiving with Trump and the boys at Mar-a-Lago. Yeah, the kids are accessories.

      • UpIn Toronto says:

And the audacity of him to talk about women making more babies, I am so tired of men

  8. BlueSky says:

The MAGATs really are pissed that people are leaving twitter so there’s no one to bully and also people are choosing to block people rather than engage. For me, I’m in survival mode and I’m making sure my finances are in order and I’m so thankful I work remotely so I don’t have to deal with anyone.

Also I thought subsidies made EV more affordable???

    • SarahLee says:

EV subsidies do make EVs more affordable. However, there is a limit on the amount of subsidies available per automaker. Tesla long ago used up its subsidy, so of course Musk wants it gone so the competition can’t suck off the same government teet that he did.

  9. ML says:

Ugh, I don’t feel confident that Elon should be anywhere near his little son without someone who is good/ safe for kids around. Can Grimes see X?

Elon used AI and a huge platform to send misinformation and lies straight into voters eyeballs. To me, that’s even worse than buying an election.

  10. LarskpurLM says:

How TF is he even this close to a possible presidency? WTF is the coming to? How TF is there so much money “donated” to campaigns? America, look at that heaping bag of bread dough in a suit…FAFO.

  11. wolfmamma says:

#1 – that he is hanging around the Cheezy Gold Hotel and Washington DC so much is such a sign of how broken this country is right now.

#2- This Muskox really sees himself as a businessman rather than a scam artist like Bezos who amassed all this “ wealth”
Yeah – he’s got big bank accounts but no heart or soul. Your karma is ripening, honey.

  12. K says:

Save the leopards!! His face full of fillers. I saw him live last night and it looks like his skin floats. Deeply unsettling. Our government is now a Monty Python fever dream.

  13. Whyforthelove says:

Bad investment dude, Donald screws everyone who lends him $$ and stabs his political allies in the back. I believe inhear a leopard coming hahaha

  14. Walking the Walk says:

But Harris didn’t talk about her policies enough, she was not smart, etc. etc. I hate this country. Dang.

  15. HillaryIsAlwaysRight says:

“…up to his hair plugs…” LOLOLOL

  16. LeighTX says:

How would getting rid of EV subsidies HELP Tesla? Buyers see that as a benefit of buying electric and if you take them away less people will be motivated to buy them. Big business brain, indeed.

  17. SIde Eye says:

This is going to be epic. When that falling out happens, dude will be declared an “illegal” and all his assets seized, and that’s actually the best outcome he can hope for. It will be the most epic leopard ate my face story ever.

Tic toc Penguin the orange one cometh

  18. The real queen says:

Hopefully it will bite him on his ass!

  19. AC says:

The MAGAs didn’t know they elected Elon. I have no sympathy for these people when their SS, Medicare, etc all gets cut. Karmas a big B.

Pop culture doesn’t have any Lindsey’s, Brit Brit’s, Nicole’s or Paris’s to kick around anymore so the culture gap is being filled with tech bros & tired white men?

I don’t care about the secret lives of these drug-addled guys who work in offices all day. It’s like the media knows “slut shaming” isn’t working anymore and they don’t know who to write about. Zzzzzzz
