Naomi Campbell attacks ABC camera when asked about war crimes (video)

Naomi Cambell In Trouble For Assault!

The violent demon from hell known as The Naomi has struck again. This time she attacked a camera… no mention of the person handling the camera, but Naomi does have a way of handling objects so that people get hurt. Could a camera be the bedazzled Blackberry? Who knows. The backstory on Naomi’s attack is pretty interesting: she was being interviewed by ABC about blood diamonds, and whether she received a huge blood diamond from genocidal madman Charles Taylor. Naomi denied that she got a blood diamond, but she has also refused to testify at Taylor’s war crimes tribunal. When asked repeatedly about it during an interview, Naomi then attacked the camera. F-cking bitch.

Naomi Campbell’s violent outbursts are truly going global.

The supermodel threw a punch at an ABC News camera and stormed out of a heated interview over an international controversy involving “blood diamonds,” deposed African despot Charles Taylor and crimes against humanity.

Campbell has been accused of receiving a “huge,” uncut “blood diamond” from the dictator; she denied the allegation and has also refused to cooperate in Taylor’s international trial for crimes against humanity.

“I didn’t receive a blood diamond and I’m not going to speak about that,” Campbell spat angrily before storming off and punching the camera in the producer’s hands.

Prosecutors in the Hague in the Netherlands told ABC that Campbell has refused to be interviewed by the Special Court of Sierra Leone, which says Taylor (Liberia’s former president) killed and amputated thousands of people in Sierra Leone between 1997 and 2001.

“The diamonds made possible the continuation of the conflict,” a prosecutor in the case explained. Prosecutors charge that Taylor purchased weapons for his vicious soldiers by using the “blood diamonds” as currency.

Campbell’s involvement with Taylor was first pointed out by actress Mia Farrow, who told ABC News that the model bragged of receiving a “huge diamond” from Taylor. A lawyer for Campbell had no comment to ABC News.

Campbell lashed out at a limo driver in NYC last month, but no charges were filed. In 2008 she pled guilty to attacking two police officers at London’s Heathrow Airport; a year earlier, she was sentenced to community service for throwing a phone at a maid; in 2005, an assistant accused her of slapping her and beating her with a BlackBerry. In 2000, she pled guilty to a 1998 case involving an old assistant — who claimed Campbell assaulted her with a telephone and threatened to throw her out of a moving car.

[From Us Weekly]

Haul her dumb, violent ass to the Hague. She’s a horrible, violent, terrible person who should be in jail. Her crimes, tantrums, hissy fits, violent attacks and abuse are so wide-ranging, I can’t even properly sum them up – just go to our Naomi Campbell archives for a refresher. And it’s funny because she recently gave an interview talking about how she would stop beating people when she turned 40 years old. Ugh. As far as the blood diamond thing – I don’t believe her denial. She’s the kind of woman who would accept a huge diamond from a genocidal madman and think “He loves me, I’m fabulous, I won’t beat him.” And when we’re standing in front of the one dude who really deserves a f-cking beatdown, and you don’t follow through? That’s a war crime, in my book.

UPDATE: Sh-t, here’s the video. She’s a demon from hell:

What is this woman’s problem? Synaptic blockage?

  2. annaloo says:

We should put her and Chris Brown in the same room, throw a Blackberry in there, then RUN!!!!

  3. Wow says:

I honestly think she has a mental problem. Something that goes beyond bipolar or Britney. Normal adults don’t just fly off the handle like that. She seems to go from 0 to 100 in a snap.

I really hope she gets some help. Real professional help.

  4. LindyLou says:

Methinks she doth protest too much. I bet she totally has the blood diamond.

  5. Jackson says:

I have no qualms saying that she is a horrible person. The fact that anyone would still employ her is beyond me.

  6. Lady Nightshade says:

Annaloo — thanks for the laugh!

  7. ogechi says:

    #2: I think so too.

  8. bellaluna says:

Wow, she’s like, the Lindsay Lohan of abusing people.

And she soooo has the blood diamond.

  9. annaloo says:

We should also throw Gwyneth in the room right after we throw the Blackberry.

  10. smith says:

She’s just 360 degrees of awful.

I think she has the diamond and used it to bedazzle her va-jay …

Glued it right on there, front and center.

  11. Samantha says:

We need to hook her up with Chris Brown.

  12. GatsbyGal says:

She totally took that blood diamond. She deserves a good smack in the mouth and a lengthy prison sentence.

  13. a says:

she’s a perfect example of celebrity justice.

  14. Feebee says:

hmm, Naomi Campbell v Chris Brown… my money’s on Campbell with a stiletto finish.

I don’t think she has anything “wrong” with her. I think she’s a spoilt bitch with a attitude the size of Texas and anger at ever having to explain herself to anyone.

She should have to answer questions officially about anything she received from that man and his ill gotten gains.

  15. TaylorB says:

As my grandmother always said ‘pretty is, as pretty does’. Applying that logic, this woman is about as pretty as an infected anal cyst.

  16. MissyAggravation says:

What a gross sense of entitlement. What a disgusting human being.

You just know that in a different reality, Campbell wouldn’t hesitate to be Taylor’s trophy wife. Personally, I think they’re made for each other; violently narcissistic birds of a feather. . .

You know she probably gets off on how many lives have been raped and destroyed by that shiny piece of coal. Only furthers her sense of entitlement.

  17. anon says:

She didn’t attack the camera! She was pissy, snippy, sure… but she politely (abruptly) ended the interview, then moved the camera from filming her when it was over. Bad attitude, but not “violent demon from hell”. LOL!

  18. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

That cocaine is one hell of a drug.

But in all honesty, she’s batshit. Why isn’t anyone taking this more seriously? She needs a stint at Sing-Sing or Bellevue–or more likely both–to prevent her from continuing to be such an insult to womanhood. Dang, this lady makes my ovaries punch each other. Hard.

@Kaiser: Now, we all know that whatever the nature of their relationship was, it certainly could never have been romantic. She has that same disease as Tiger Woods–the that makes you afraid of black people–so that’s a moot point. At any rate, her fire brigade of billionaire playboys probably eject bigger diamonds in their sputum than anything in question here. Makes you wonder why she feels so compelled to consort with such a menace.

@TaylorB: Ah, man! That was some good pizza I was eating. Even if I agree and chuckled, I’m calling The Hague on you for crimes against lunchtime.

  19. ien says:

i wish someone would hit this bitch back for once.

  20. gblinda says:

bitch is engaged to a married russian billionaire…he apparently just wants a trophy but couldn’t he buy a better one?

  21. original kate says:

maybe she has tourette’s of the arm.

  22. meme says:

i’d be happy to smack this CU Next Tuesday. and smack her HARD.

  23. Gypsy says:

That was an attempt to ambush her, and if that happened to me, I am there to talk about something else and you try to force something down my throat, I would storm out of there – That’s what normal people do.

  24. Cheyenne says:

They should deal with this bitch like the ancient Romans did: sew her up in a sack with a snake, a tarantula, and a wildcat, and toss the bag into the river.

  25. Gypsy says:

They tried a little “got ya” journalism thinking she is like Palin, just sit there looking stupid, but Naomi is her own woman, her code is F**k you, I have no boss.
The birth of the free Amazon woman.

  26. lisa says:

I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to call BS on this story. I think she has a reputation for throwing things and this is being blown out of proportion. Why would anyone punch a camera? If you are angry with the questions, wouldn’t you punch the camera man? or the interviewer? I mean, the woman is 6ft tall and she’s not afraid to throw a punch (we know that). I saw video of the first ‘incident’ on the plane where she was accused of attacking a cameraman. The cameraman had been taking pictures of her while she was sleeping. She woke up, got angry, and tried to take the camera away from him. This was considered her beating the camera man up. I agree she has a temper, but let’s keep things in perspective.
I could be biased though, because I think that she would be a blast to hang out with. She’s smart and beautiful with a fiery temper and you know she’s got your back in a fight.

  27. Jonzin says:

Here’s what I have heard: friend works for an upscale designer who shall remain nameless. He is given the parameters for a special purse/bag to carry Taylor’s gift to Naomi – Taylor never mentioned what the gift was. We have been guessing for awhile now. Is this the same gift? Based on the size, that was one large, albeit tainted, stone.

  28. moo says:

    I will not defend her… she’s a snot!

BUT, I am not going to defend reporters or their camera people. She tried to politely say STFU, and I am tired of the media getting in people’s faces and PROVOLKING anger and just hoping the person does flip out. Makes me sick. Media whores have no scruples whatsoever and when they push people like this, they deserve everything that is coming to them!

  29. Macheath says:

    @ #19 Jo ‘Mama’ Besser
Huh? I didn’t understand the middle part of your comment at all.

  30. Mairead says:

Lisa, Moo and co – you’re nicer people than me; I’ve long held that Naomi, aka ‘The Stretham Alley-cat’, should be de-clawed 😉

  31. Lilias says:

Bitch crazy. That’s all that needs to be said.

    “Tourette’s of the arm” HAHAHHA

    EDIT:

Macheath, Tiger Woods is one of those mixed black folk who basically act like their black side is a festering wound. I’m a mixed black woman and when people look at me they see a black person, not everything else. Naomi Campbell is something else beside black (Asian?) and she shouts from the rooftops (like Tiger) that she isn’t black. Which, of course, she is. Partly, anyway.

  32. Macheath says:

    @ Lilias
Oh I see! Thanks for explaining =)
I knew about Tiger Woods attitude but I thought Naomi was the complete opposite. I remeber reading that she has a grandparent or great-grandparent that was Chinese but I thought she always just identified as black. Heh, learn something new every day.

About the incident; Naomi can hardly be surprised that everybody thinks the worst of her.

  33. hellen says:

Naomi Campbell says she isn’t black? I must have missed that bulletin. Well, whatever else she is, she’s 100% crazy.

  34. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

@Macheath: It was a facetious reference a long-standing (and often in itself facetious) in-joke amongst blacks that suggests that in cases where a black individual reaches a certain level of success or wealth (or, pretty much all of the amenities of stable or prosperous adulthood), that individual will feel compelled to reject the advances of prospective black romantic partners. I’m not the best person to consult on the emotional component of this history, as my social life falls too far on the ‘monastic’ side of the court to qualify for the gossamer delights of fevered romances or the staid comfort of awaking with certainty to that same morning breath with each new day. My niece and nephew are half-white and I’m not getting rid of them–not even when the circus comes around. But I’ve been privy to a small percentage of the conversations and concerns surrounding the topic. It’s sticky stuff, whether one agrees with it or not. Heck, if you’ll fill out my prescriptions and take care of the bathroom cleaning, I’m yours forever. But I’m not everyone, and I’m not speaking for everyone either.

For those who subscribe to this belief, there are many contributing factors to this phenomenon, and discourses on this topic have been (and in some cases continue to be) very fraught.

For some people, habitually dating ‘outside of the race’ (although we all know what a charged notion *that* is) suggests that blacks too have had their ideologies carried away by the tide of institutionalized racism and discrimination. They have been taught the same kind of distrust which has resulted in mutual and self-loathing which re-affirms and re-inscribes all of the negative qualities which make a case for some sort of Afro-Original Sin. If one is to follow that logic through, these adopted beliefs have caused a schism between the groups who should be finding comfort, strength and pride in each other. Or, I guess to put it another way, in regards to this topic, agency doesn’t have to be taken away because it’s being given for free. By tacitly accepting these notions, some more radical thinkers say that many blacks have ‘turned their back on the race’ and into the arms of the never truly sated or reliable (arguably) erstwhile colonizer. And then what? If you live a lie, you just die a liar. The counter argument being something in the way of, ‘if I did it, you can too’, or, ‘stop giving would-be foes fodder or let your detractors triumph’, ‘if you live as a stereotype, you’ll be one’, ‘time to stop playing the victim and bridge the divisions’.

I don’t know if you’ve ever seen 30 Rock, but this topic is broached by the Tracy Jordan and Toofer (I think that’s how they spell it in the credits). There’s also the matter of the Black Crusaders. For someone who hasn’t lived within these concerns, it can seem paranoid, counter-productive or petulant. However we may feel about these issues in our hearts, ethics and scope of experience, this issue is far from resolved and bigger than purely personal hopes of just getting along, to paraphrase.

There are some who would probably also argue that these ‘cynical’ or ‘white patriarchy worshipping’ acts of ‘social climbing’ are a means to a hard to admit end: that ‘whiteness’ is the prize and ultimately the reason for success. I guess it’s like gaining platinum VIP status from the Old Boys Club, when previously he could only sweep its floors. And if one decides to go deeper, this kind of behaviour would verify an innate ‘superiority’ of ‘whiteness’, since blacks–even if they’re winning–are playing someone else’s game, by someone else’s rules.

By gaining this kind of ‘respectability’ through these means, there is the tacit understanding that you’re ‘trading up’ from your lot and completely breaking from it, or that you’ve used all of the good and gifts not on those who ‘need’ or ‘deserve’ it most, but on those who instinctively clutch their purses a little tighter when they see you coming towards them or who want to ‘piss off Daddy’. You’ve accepted the idea that ‘progress’ or ‘desirability’ is inextricably linked to ‘whiteness’ and simply not part of the vernacular of ‘your own folk’. And as messy as the beauty ideal is for white women, it becomes positively nuclear the further you go through the *ahem* colour spectrum. It’s a topic that be discussed for years to come insofar as many women of colour (not just black) devote huge portions of time, money, care and self-image towards acquiring more typically ‘white’ features, but will never really compare with the ‘genuine article’, as it were.

Yeah, it’s messed up and kind of depressing.

  35. benny says:

She needs some serious jail time to straighten her out. What a violent bitch.

  36. Cheyenne says:

@annaloo: This woman’s “problem” is she’s a superannuated spoiled brat with an attitude who needs several good old-fashioned ass-whuppins. Sign me up.

  37. paranel says:

She is an ignorant self centered has been model in a cheap wig.

  38. Macheath says:

    @ Jo ‘Mama’ Besser
Thanks for explaining, I can see what you mean now. I read something interesting on another blog today; someone commented (an Asian commenter) that Zoe Saldana is being marketed as the black girl that white guys can get and then another commenter complained that her nose was too wide. All seemingly random, but very loaded statements that remind me of what you said. It’s as if Zoe has ‘made it’ now that’s she’s another member of a heavily saturated group (the group that gets marketed to the guys) although she’s still being judged by a beauty standard that is outside of her ethnicity and thus unreasonable. So called ‘racial’ politics along with gender politics are by far the most painful and difficult issues to overcome because they literally affect all others. It’s horribly pessimistic to say this but I don’t think things will ever 100% change for the better. Every colour will always have some within their group that suffer from an -ism.
Self-hatred is a unique kettle of fish though; it’s very polarised between the haves and the have nots; people with power aren’t going to suffer from it the same way people without power will. It’s also terribly pervasive; a stain that is hard to wipe away for generations. Again I think it will never truly be cleansed although I’m not advocating giving up; I just like to be a little realist to avoid dashed hopes.

That aside, nothing can excuse Naomi’s behavioural record.

  39. imo says:

@ Jo Mama, didn’t she date Seal before Heidi got him? I seem to remember something like that. Naomi is also well known (around NYC at least) for dealing with ANY race as long as the money is long enough.
*On topic* Even though I don’t agree about the way she’s handled things in the past, I think the interviewer was the bitch in this situation. She clearly tried to force Naomi into an interview she did not wish to have. Why try to provoke her? I most likely would have reacted the same way. If that makes me a bitch well then *kanyeshrug*

  40. tooey says:

am I the only one that thinks she’s jacked her face (cheek implants, anyone?) or is that old news?

  41. lisa says:

    @tooey

She’s actually always had those cheeks. Sometimes I think she might have had a face lift, but the cheeks and the lips have always been there.

  42. nycmom10024 says:

I can’t believe I am about to defend Naomi Cambell, But… Just watched the clip on the news and yes she was her usual witchy self. She was also being interviewed in a very small area and the cameraman was blocking her way as she tried to walk away. I can see where someone might feel cornered and he doesn’t seem to move out of the way. Hmm I don’t know. Personally, I would cout her some slack on this case.

  43. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

@Macheath: I agree with everything that you have said here. 100% Part of the struggle for any traditionally disenfranchised group is in finding a way to be realistic and pragmatic, patient and understanding, and having the stamina to keep going even if you feel like you’re sinking in Paschendaele mud. Once you’ve let yourself drift into the arena of complacent despair it’s infinitely more more difficult to go forward because you’re just so stuck in the mire.

Self-loathing is so damaging not only because it is self-perpetuated, but because sometimes the shame over not fitting into the ideal is not easily reconciled with the shame one might feel knowing that the inculcation process is complete and ‘whiteness’ has been privileged over one of the ‘Other’ ethnicities. If that’s not enough, it’s painful to know that the ideaologies of superficiality have sunken their talons into your notions of self worth and pride. No one is immune, but if these concerns aren’t addressed at all, let alone in the spirit of positive communication and community, the effects of it will fester like that ‘infected anal cyst’ of yore.

As a black female, I feel trapped and liberated by the ideal. I don’t have to feel bad about only being 5’0, because it’s not as if Vogue would be knocking at my door if I shot up a foot overnight. I take care of my body (chronic illness forces me to be vigilant, but I’m far, far, FAR from obsessive), and am of a perfectly healthy weight for a person of my height (so to speak), age, etc. If a fairy godmother crept into my apartment, after scolding me about letting the recycling pile up, she could very well pull a ‘Bippity-Boppity-Sample Size’, toss me the stringiest bikini in christendom and follow with the most sophisticated car washing kit in this, or any other galaxy. This doesn’t mean I’m going to be cast as the female lead in Transformers 9: A Flagon of Battery Acid, Sirrah!

Because as much as we hate to admit it, beauty is your passport to life, and if it’s of the conventional sort, so much the better. I’m not going to sit here and say that life is served up to you on a platter if your features are consistent with the standards. I’m not going to say that there is only one kind of beauty and those who don’t adhere to the model are shameful hobo slags who weep themselves to sleep. I’m not going to say that even the most standard of beauties has nothing else going for her, that she uses it as a crutch, or that she doesn’t have interests or aspirations outside of her appearance, that she doesn’t have bad days, broken hearts, boredom or responsibility. She’ll have to do something else, if for no other reason than to avoid the ‘haters’, or whatever. But all things considered, it probably helps. It’s like saying that money doesn’t buy happiness. Okay, but poverty doesn’t buy anything, what’s your point?

So, I guess when the eye of the beholder is fixed in another direction, you learn to find and cultivate talents and resources that can amaze. Unfortuneately, those resources can be treated as the silver medal and make one feel as though strengths are turned into liabilities.

And whoever it was that said that sometimes bi-racial individuals can treat their black half as the Bertha Mason in the attic is–speaking from my personal witnesses, not for all–spot-on. If I had my druthers, I’d say no one is too good for his own DNA. Every part of a person is worthy and deserving of love and respect, what are you gonna do?

Of course, we can’t forget what has brought us together for some stimulating conversation: the unhinged lunacy of one Ms. Campbell (who does have Chinese ancestry I think I remember reading a long time ago, but I don’t know whence it came, I was really referring to her man harem of Russian billionaires more than any disavowal of blackness on her part).

If this the final round of a gameshow, and the host said, ‘And now, for the grand prize of this lovely earthenware 227 commemorative mug, you must either go for 86 seconds in the octagon with Ms. Campbell and the Battering BlackBerrys, or travel back in time to the Battle of Agincourt and fight on the French side with a banner reading, ‘Henry the Fifth is a pudding-haired Lollard, and probably a changeling, too’, I’d go find the best dysentary-proof armour I could find.

  44. ERM says:

@nycmom10024: Perhaps if this were an isolated incident then I would cut her some slack but let’s face it she’s a witch and prone to physical tantrums/altercations.

I refuse to purchase anything that she endorses because it validates her bad behaviour!

  45. SLS says:

One day someone’s gonna DROP her crazy azz! Can’t wait!

  46. Shay says:

This issue isn’t about ‘blackness’ or ‘beauty’, it’s about blood diamonds and how journalists are trying to indirectly assign blame to Naomi Campbell based on hearsay.
And I have to say, I’m with Naomi on this. She doesn’t have to talk about it because she knows that if she does, it will be convoluted and she’ll be portrayed negatively, regardless of what she says.
The fact is that she isn’t the cause of the blood diamond trade and focusing attention on her is only a diversion.

  47. MooCow says:

If she had nothing to hide why wouldn’t she sit there and defend herself instead of lashing out like that, it’s ridiculous. I know if someone accused me of that and I was innocent I’d sure as hell make it clear that I have more character than to accept such a thing.

Given her history, no way should she get the benefit of the doubt.

  48. canadianchick says:

She’s fugly on the inside. I also agree she will clock the wrong person one day and with any luck, learn a lesson from that. Blood diamonds, smh.

  49. M says:

Well, as someone that loves and collects precious stones, there’s really no such thing as a ‘clean’ diamond or gold etc unless you go out and mine it yourself and take it to a jeweler of your choice to cut. Everything about the mining industry is dirty. I buy Australian diamonds, but then you have to look at where the stone is cut, 96% of the worlds stones are cut in India and I’m sure those workers are paid the average national wage, which works out to something ridicuously low.
To buy a band of gold mined in a ‘green’ way costs as much as a diamond.

  50. Sincerity says:

Naomi certainly has her “issues” but when I saw the video, it seemed as if she was being advised by someone, possible an attorney. Naomi Campbell travels in the circles of the “rich and powerful” in spite of her temper tantrums because “she knows how to keep secrets”. She leads a very public existence and enjoys it. Being drawn into Charles Taylor’s legal and ethical woes may become detrimental to both her career and health.

  51. Lilias says:

It’s true that the journalist was being a jerk and pushing too hard and should have just left her alone after she said she wasn’t going to answer questions about it.

BUT that does not give Naomi Campbell any right to physically push a camera away. She could have just walked away. She chose to react violently, as she always does. That chick has issues.

  52. Aussie Mama says:

You do the hokey COKEY and you turn yourself around….and that’s what it’s all about!
    snoooooooooort!

  53. Milan says:

Naomi is as crazy as hell, no doubt about that. but i think people also like to needle her to see what response they’ll get. Kinda like bear baiting. I don’t think the story is true, it just seems preposterous. Its kinda like the way Lindsay has fecked up continuously that now when anyone says, lindsay did this orthat, no one raises an eyebrow.

And anyway, she is so done and not even relevant. Everytime I think i’m done with her drama, there she is, with an alleged blood diamond in her LV tote. I wouldn’t even blink if a story was printed about her receiving a ‘Lymph Pearl’ from the Ayatollah Khomeini.

  54. RHONYC says:

    the good news is:

looks like her deal with the devil fell through (guess she didn’t read the ‘backsies’ clause)

she is SO hitting the wall!

    hahahaha, what a joke.
