One of the all-time great beauties.
One of the greatest voices of the Twentieth Century, a fantastic actress and a lady in every sense of the word. She should have been a MUCH bigger star than she became. Alas, racism sadly prevented her from being a massive movie star, although it couldn’t stop her from becoming the legend she deservedly was.
R.I.P.
What a beautiful and brave woman. She paved the path for countless others. May she rest in peace. Goodbye Ms. Horne.
You summed it up perfectly, Pont Neuf. Lena was one of my first idols–such an amazing woman in every way. I am happy that she stuck around for so long, but she will be sorely missed. They don’t make ’em like her, anymore.
I’m so glad this was posted, I was bummed when I found out she passed. She was truly a legend. RIP Lena, you will be missed.
RIP, Ms. Horne…you were an original in every sense of the word. often imitated, never copied.
Gina Lynn is wearing a “Team Sandy” shirt? UGH.
and why does Ali Lohan’s hair start halfway back on her scalp? and what the HELL is she wearing? an acid-wash onesie? WITH WHITE MOCCASINS?!
R.I.P Lena Horne!
RIP great lady ! Your legacy is outsanding.
I am 58 yrs old and grew up LOVING LENA. What a life she led! Reading about her life absolutely changed my own. Will miss her SO MUCH!!
Side note: Ali stop doing your own damn eyebrows and don’t put you hair up that tight with your high as heck hairline.
What a great beauty. Goodbye, Ms.Horne
RIP-she had the voice of an angel.
Lena Horne broke the color barriers that existed for black women, paved the way for people from Diana Ross to Halle Berry and others to exist today. She was the first black female entertainer to perform in the “Cotton Club” in Harlem and the first beauty before Josephine Baker to set the standard for Black beauty, elegance and class….so timeless was her beauty and immortally will be world renouned.
I just finished watching the “Wiz” with Diana Ross and M.J.. She played the “Good Witch” Glenda towards the end….she was so beautiful in that movie…so angelic.
RIP Ms. Horne. We love you always!
The lady was like fine wine; she just got better and better with age. I remember seeing a photo of her when she was 60-something and thinking it should be illegal for anyone to be so drop-dead beautiful.
I love the whole old fashioned vintage scenes and vintage beauty. All a female needed was some simple black eyeliner and red lipstick to look nice, not caked on clown makeup. Women were beautiful and sexy back then without being slutty and skanky. Now, all these little teens and hootchies want to flash their crotch and boobs all over the screen. I like her red dress. 😉 R.I.P.
Lena Horne’s passing has saddened me because they just don’t make them like her anymore. She was truly a “timeless” beauty and talented entertainer in which societal injustices and limitations could not destroy. Others such as Dorothy Dandrige, Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington succumbed to the overwhelming inequalities of racism and simply “imploded”. Lena Horne had her low points in life too, but she always seemed to rally back from nowhere to remind us that you may be down but you’re never out. She carried herself with a great deal of personal dignity and fought for the rights and dignity of others when she could have cared only about herself and left such matters for others to carry the baton of civil rights. Ms. Horne was a beautiful person both inside and out who never denied her African American heritage when she was encouraged to do so. May she rest in peace. Lena Horne, I salute you!!!
RIP to the epitome of class and dignity..i always crack watching the Sanford and Son rerun where Fred pretends Lamont is sick so Lena Horne will come to his house
