Did Jodie Foster violently attack a 17-year-old kid? (update)

Does Jodie Foster strike anyone as a violent person? I could only see her pushing someone who is annoying her (like a paparazzo), but I can’t really see her attacking someone. But allegedly, she has. Radar has documentation from an official police report (Radar has it here), in which a 17-year-old maybe-paparazzo/maybe-fan claims Jodie pushed, shoved and scratched him. The kid took some photos of Jodie, and she thought he was a paparazzo, so she attacked him, I think, although this kid’s parents are claiming that he’s just a kid. I don’t know about this whole story, it seems fishy as hell:

Panic Room star Jodie Foster has been accused of battery by a 17-year-old boy RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively.

“Jodie Foster attacked my son at the parking lot at The Grove,” the father, who wishes to remain anonymous, told RadarOnline.com. “Jodie pushed and shoved him leaving scratches and bruises on his arm.”

According to a police report, the incident occurred on May 29 between 1:50pm and 2:00pm with a report of battery and bodily force. The description reads: “Vict while at The Grove saw susp and began to take pics of susp with his camera then walked to the valet area of The Grove. Susp followed vict, poked him on his chest, grabbed vict by his left arm causing visible injury.”

The father of the alleged victim told RadarOnline.com exclusively: “My son was at The Grove with his girlfriend and they were going to see a movie. He saw Jodie Foster and is a big fan so went over and took a picture of her.

“She came after him, poked him in the chest and said, ‘Do you even have a mother you slime ball?'”

The family tells RadarOnline.com that their son was really confused and apologized profusely to the actress. “He didn’t mouth back at all and was scared of her,” the father said. “At one point Jodie’s son even came over to my son and apologized. Her kids were really embarrassed.

Foster is intensely private about her personal life, especially when it comes to questions about her sexuality. She has two biological sons, Charles, 11, and Christopher, 8, but has never revealed the identity of their fathers.

The family of the alleged victim later went to police who filled out an incident report. Police did not respond at the scene. Because of that the incident report can be a “he said, she said” type of document. Foster’s first name is spelled wrong and her age is incorrect on the document. That information would be supplied by the alleged victim.

But the alleged victim’s father not only insists his was victimized, he’s furious. “On top of it all, he’s a minor!” he told RadarOnline.com. “My wife is furious that while Jodie was trying to protect her children, she wasn’t there to protect her son.

“This left a really bad impression on my son about her. He used to be a big fan and now he has a bad taste in his mouth. He’s a good kid; kind of small for his age. There was no threat to Jodie.”

[From Radar]

Sounds like somebody’s just looking for some money, right? Sure, Jodie guards her private life to the point of paranoia (and for good reason, John Hinckley), and I could see how she would be disturbed if she was out with her kids and someone started taking photos of her. But to attack the guy? Eh. Like I said, I could see her maybe pushing him away if he got in her face, but the truth is that Jodie has been doing this a really long f-cking time, and she knows better. Plus, it’s not like being 17-years-old precludes the kid from being a paparazzo. They get ‘em younger than that at some agencies.

UPDATE: Foster’s rep tells People Magazine that the kid’s version of events is a “fabrication.” Also: “This guy was most definitely a professional paparazzo. He had a large camera bag and 1000mm telephoto lens. He tailed Jodie and followed her all the way from the movie theater to the valet. He crowded her and her two young children and took photos of them the whole time. This guy’s behavior was completely inappropriate and the police report is a fabrication of the incident.” Yeah, I believe Jodie.

Over the last 10 years, she’s gotten a little menacing looking to me. I wouldn’t mess with this dude!

  2. Lesley says:

You’d think after being raped on a pinball machine she’d be a little more sensitive about physical aggression. *sigh *

  3. Isabel says:

Um…the part about grabbing his left arm and causing visible injury? That was written in by hand after the report was typed. These people are scum. Leave Jodie alone! What is wrong with people these days?!

  4. hatsumomo says:

Im with her on this, some 17 year olds really dont look young or small. Or seem innocent.

  5. Mairead says:

he’s such a big fan is he? So much so that he couldn’t even spell her name right? 🙄

I can see this right down the middle here – Brat took photos of someone he knew was famous (with her kids presumably), he didn’t have enough manners drummed into him by his parents Mr. & Mrs. Gullible to ask if he could take a photo, took snaps and walked off.

Jodie went after him to put manners on him. The parents weren’t there so only have what he told him happened and to be blunt, teenage boys usually have a problem in getting a story straight, when it doesn’t reflect well on them. I don’t believe for one second that he was half as apologetic and sheepish as he told the gullible eejits who dragged him up. Now she shouldn’t have touched him, but if the idiot had an iota of manners he wouldn’t have found himself in that situation to begin with.

  6. Tia C says:

I agree, that does sound fishy as hell. Obviously he must have done something that pissed her off.

  7. Lady D says:

I actually prefer not knowing absolutely everything about movie stars. I have a lot more respect for the ones that can keep their private life private. She has always struck me as having class, unlike most of her co-workers. Private person or not, I would say Ms. Foster just doesn’t seem the aggressive, confrontational type. She has been a star for years. Wouldn’t we have heard something about her temper before this?

  8. e.non says:

any witnesses to this horrifying attack on this young, innocent, with good intentions fanboy?

nah, didn’t think so. reads like pops has been working with someone to whip up a whiney defense.

  9. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

Sounds like a money making scam to me.

I am positive he was a tiny widdle boy, just wanting a snap of his favorite actress! *major eyeroll*

  10. padiddle says:

    @Mairead – totally agree.
I think sometimes we think of celebrities as less than people, but can you imagine if you were going to dinner, walking across a parking lot, and out of the corner of your eye you saw some stranger taking pictures of you without your permission? I wouldn’t resort to physical violence, but I would sure as hell give them an earful. I think we expect that celebrities should just get used to it because they are famous, but I do think they should be allowed some privacy. Jeez, the kid could have at least ASKED to take her picture.

  11. vi says:

maybe he was rude in just taking a picture but that doesn’t mean she gets to beat on the guy!

  12. CathyT says:

How threatening could Jodie Foster be? She is seriously short and petite.

  13. original kate says:

sounds like someone’s looking for a little easy cash.

  14. Hautie says:

Ummm a innocent 17 year old boy just taking a picture of her. And he was brutalize for the effort.

His Momma has to rescue him and file charges. Because a female maybe tipping the scales at maybe 110 lbs. caused him great bodily injury. *huge eyeroll*

I bet they will be on TMZ tonight crying about it too.

  15. audrey says:

    Don’t mess w Clarice Starling….

  16. Kitten says:

    BS

  17. Jazz says:

I call shenanigans! Most 17yr old boys probably don’t even know who Jodie Foster is. They’re probably into Megan Fox or whatever the hell 17 year olds are into!

  18. xxodettexx says:

sounds like they are trying to make a quick buck off Foster

imo, this story doesnt add up

  19. Ro says:

I find it fishy that the boy was not harmed enough for the police to make an arrest but the the parents report it as if his arm was almost taken off. I don’t know Jodie Foster so I really have no idea what she’s capable of but the story doesn’t sound like that big of a deal.

  20. Bonnie says:

These paps are getting younger and younger. All paps deserve getting smacked around IMO. If you are going to be a pap and I don’t care about your age but if you are going to do that work and act like the agressive paps of today then you get what you deserve. They should think they deserve a free pass because of age.

These cameras can see for hundreds of feet. There is NO reason to hunt them down like animals and then surround them like you’ve caged them for the kill.

  21. WTF?!? says:

I don’t believe any of it for a second, save for the “don’t you have a mother?” comment.

  22. 1 qt of 1 % says:

I think they see dollar signs and they sue. He’s in the news so he gets fame, plays the victim and says he’s hurt so it’s easy money. Scum!

  23. Majosha says:

    Mairead: Agreed.

I also agree with the commenter who surmised that most 17-year-old kids likely have no clue who Jodie Foster is, or if they do, they’re hardly “huge fans.” What a punk.

  24. Wisteria says:

What a little wimp! I’d be embarassed to admit I called the police over something so minor-especially if I were a 17 year old young man. Pathetic!

  25. danielle says:

Yikes! Someone taking your picture without your permission does not mean you get to beat them up! Also, it doesn’t matter if he did something “to make her mad”. Maybe this happened, maybe it didn’t. We don’t know much about Foster, she might not be a very nice person.

  26. Solveig says:

He may be a minor but that doens’t mean that he can do whatever he wants. I met some famous people in my life and I never took a picture of them without their permission, most times I even didn’t approach them.
It seems that the father is smelling money…

  27. Tazina says:

It’s always written up so the celebrity looks bad. The little illegal and his family are looking for a BIG payday.

  28. d says:

@ Mairead: EXACTLY. The thing is crap.

  29. Riley says:

If he is really 17, maybe he was asking her a bunch of annoying questions about K Stew… what is she like, what did Jodi learn by working with her, how the Stew impacted her decisions for future roles, whether they keep in touch, is she jealous of all the fame that the Stew has gained at such a young age, etc.

  30. Jeri says:

I’m with Jodie on this one.

  31. JJ says:

    Team Jodie!

  32. buckley says:

Wow, Leslie what a disgusting comment.

Agree with Kaiser, this woman has been in the biz too long and never a scandal. She knows better.
    Parents looking for cash.

  33. Kim says:

Sounds like a misunderstanding with her thinking he was a paparazzi but thats no excuse to shove someone or hurl insults at them. She has been in the business long enough to know to just ignore paparazzi. She had her children with her and should have been the bigger person esp. since this boy was just 17/a kid himself. She caused more of a scene by approaching & shoving the kid. I feel bad for the kid. If she did realize her mistake and apologized than he should let it go and not look for a payday though.

  34. Obvious says:

Did the kid look 17? From the time i turned 15 people thought i was 18 or older. Something tells me if this is true she didn’t ask his name. And if he was a fan the polite thing to do is ask would you mind if i take a picture? i’m a huge fan.

And as he was following her around and taking pictures with her family i don’t blame her. The whole John Hinkley incident has made her paranoid about this with good reason. i don’t blame her in the least.

i’d say if you run into a private star ask. if you run into one like fox or spears who call the paps wherever they go, fair game. and if they are with family, butt out.

  35. Jen says:

Picture this: kid snaps pic, Jodie confronts him, pokes him in the chest, he laughs or says something irritating and turns to walk away. She grabs his arm and pulls him back. That simple.

That’s technically assault, yes, but certainly not “beating” someone up. Yeah, she should know better but I’ve known plenty of 17 year olds and they are experts at pushing buttons.

    Show me the witnesses!

    Team Jodie!

  36. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

@Danielle- my you are gullible! So some “17 yr old” cries Foster beat him up, a very wealthy actress, and you believe it.

There is no evidence that Foster is a violent person. I have always read she is great to work with, and a nice person. Never have I read of her having a temper and beating on people.

She was with her children, and having once been the object of John Hinkley, MAYBE SHE HAS A RIGHT TO BE A LITTLE WORRIED by someone following her!

  37. ahoymatey says:

@ Tazina: where does the article say this kid was an “illegal”? reading too much into things, are we?

  38. Carrie says:

Calling shenanigans- a public confrontation at the Grove between Jodie Foster and a kid, that according to the kid was a violent confrontation, and there were no other witnesses? No other paparazzi? Nobody with a convenient camera phone to capture Jodie beating up a small, scared teenaged boy?

Nope- not believing this one until I see some sort of proof. Because if she did get physical, in the middle of a very popular shopping mall, where celebs often are, there would be some footage of it somewhere.

  39. Sincerity says:

Wasn’t there a law enacted recently that prevents the paps from approaching and taking pictures of celebrities when they are in family situations with their children?

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least, if this so-called 17 year old actually looked more like a “twenty-something” adult. How was Jodie Foster suppose to know that she was dealing with a minor? Of course, this young man conveniently did not know about this new law or when it may have gone into effect. I can understand her being extremely upset about being bothered by a photographer while she’s with her children; however, Jodie Foster grew up in front of the camera and is well aware of how quickly the paps will “cry foul” and demand compensation for their “alleged injuries”. Of course, without any actual witnesses willing to come forward, it’s only the minor’s word against Jodie’s. It’s really up to the authorities to determine, if there is enough evidence to press charges. For Jodie’s sake, I hope they dismiss these allegations as false. Everybody has a “bad day” and perhaps this kid simply caught Jodie at a very bad time and she “just wasn’t having it”.

  40. melina says:

Imagine if Gwyneth Paltrow was involved instead of Jodie! Would the comments be the same? Oh the hypocrisy…

  41. Cinderella says:

Bet his father is a pap, too. Scum.

    Good for Jodie.

  42. Mairead says:

@melina – Personally, my detestation of paps even edges out my intense dislike of Goopy. Dragging around an “L” lens doesn’t make them photographers. The language might be less sympathetic, but the sentiment would be similar.

@Bonnie – the thing about those super-zoom lenses is that they don’t take very stable photos (you would have to have it at 1/500th of a second exposure at the very least) and can have a lot of noise. Plus there’s more money in shots of celebs reacting.

  43. Karen says:

Team Jodie! If that piece of sh*t 17 year old was truly a big fan (my head hurts from all of the eyerolling), then he would know not to approach her in that manner because of John Hinkley.

  44. Katija says:

Um, what sort of seventeen year old boy even knows who Jodie Foster is? This isn’t Megan Fox we’re talking about! He’s definitely a pro.

  45. Beth says:

It’s obvious the kid is a pap. If he was just a random fan going to watch a movie why would he be carrying a huge camera? It’s funny how paps have no problem verbally and physically harming celebs. But when they return fire, paps are quick to run to the police. I don’t know if it’s the same kid but about 3 or 4 years ago there was a 13 or 14 year old who was a pap. His father drove him around until 2AM.

  46. mw says:

If one of my kids had cornered, stalked and hassled a celebrity, or anyone, like this, I would have told my kids they deserved whatever happened to them.

  47. Ruffian9 says:

    I call bull**it

  48. Anastasia says:

Lesley, GROSS. She was playing a character, first of all. Secondly, I seriously doubt this 17 year old’s story. Sounds like a scam for money to me.

  49. GatsbyGal says:

What 17 year old boy is a “big Jodie Foster fan”? No way on earth is this kid’s story correct. He’s a pap, no doubt.

  50. Mingo says:

I don’t care if he is a paparazzo. She has no more right to attack someone physically for taking a picture of her than I or you do.

  51. mai tai says:

The wimpy 17 yr old guy should just apologize to Jodie and shut up already!

  52. skeptical says:

i’m also Team Jodie… for all the reasons already mentioned, and more (especially the idea that a 17 year old male would bother himself about who she is UNLESS he was looking for an easy buck!)

  53. Lia says:

People don’t automatically have the right to approach celebrities and bother them. If you like what they do, go see their movies or attend their concerts. You don’t have the right to go up to them and start taking pictures any more than you have the right to do that to anyone else.

  54. Lita says:

@Lady D – you said it! I like celebs far more when we don’t know everything about their lives .. mainly what they want us to know and then a little salacious gossip and supposition on the side. They are supposed to be the glamorous beautiful people after all, and nobody can be glamorous when you get their entire life, medical history, tweets 24/7, personal issues etc shoved down your throat!

It’s like how in the unenlightened times, the flash of a lady’s ankle beneath her voluminous skirt was enough to send the squire’s heart racing – now it’s not even panty shots but sans panties! Pushing the envelope is not always a good thing be it short skirts, no knickers or TMI!

Yes that was only tangentially on-topic :o)

  55. Prissa says:

Jodie looks great. I’m so glad she hasn’t followed everyone else down the plastic surgery road.

  56. Mia says:

It is simple. People react, when they are crowded and thier personal space is invaded. If you can’t handle the heat stay out of the way.

  57. Seer says:

    Mia, I agree with you.

Maybe this kid was hovering over JF and her children and taking their picture, and since she didn’t like it, she over-reacted. Maybe she didn’t scratch and bruise him, but maybe yelled and pushed him back or something of that sort.

  58. Anne says:

I call BS. In addition to all the comments here, I find it interesting the the kid/dad claims Jodie’s 8 and 11 year old children approached him later to apologize on behalf of their mother. Really? My kids at that age wouldn’t have yet developed the skills to do that by those ages – they’d have been scared regardless the situation and would just. want. to. go. home. Sounds like opportunists at work.
