Actress Mena Suvari, 31, was married to music producer Simon Sestito, 25, in a private church in Vatican City on Saturday. Sestito is of Italian-Canadian descent and the couple reportedly chose the location in order to accommodate the groom’s family in Italy. It is the second marriage for Suvari, who was married to German cinematographer Robert Brinkmann, 17 years her senior, for five years until their divorce in 2005. After splitting from Brinkmann, Suvari briefly dated a younger breakdancer. Sesito and Suvari met in 2007 at the Toronto film festival and were engaged a year later.
Suvari is best known as the ingenue in American Beauty and for her role in American Pie, which she wisely did not follow up in any of the sequels.
The news comes from People, which includes a quote from a guest that “The ceremony was truly unique and Mena looked breathtaking.”
Mena tweeted the news last weekend in advance of her trip to Rome:
Well, L♥vers, here we go!!! LolI’m about to board flight for Roma! I’m so excited, I can’t wait! (Except for the loooooonnnng travel from LA, which I’m not particularly looking forward to! Lol)Everyone at the airline has been so friendly & I’m thrilled to be reunited with @issimomusic and experience ALL the magic that is Italy!I hope you all are well & enjoying your wonderful weekend! ♥☺♥

There aren’t any photos of the wedding that I can find although Suvari did share some travel photos on Twitter. Suvari could definitely use the publicity from some lovely wedding photos, and I wouldn’t blame her for releasing some. The fact that there were no paparazzi present (that we know of at this point) makes me think that Suvari was more focused on her special day than on her career. Congratulations to Suvari and Sesito and best wishes for a lifetime of happiness together!

Congrats to the couple. He’d look even hotter with hair.
Congrats to them both! She’s so quirky looking but beautiful at the same time ;o)
matching foreheads…
Congrats to them but holy cow has she always had that forehead? Maybe it’s more obvious with dark hair. He’s a cutie.
Man.. that forehead just goes on forever
Aww. Best of luck to them!
He’s cute. But I would definitely like to see what he looks like with hair. He has a heart shaped face, so I think the facial hair works very well for him.
Is it just me who thinks they resemble one another?
I was thinking the same thing, iriD. They look a little like siblings to me – similar eyes, noses and lips (and foreheads!).
Still, she sounds like a woman smitten. Congratulations to the happy couple!
He has such a doucheface in every photo. But hope they are happy and have lots of little bambinos. 🙂
I once asked a top hair stylist why young people with hair shave it all off in order to look younger, and his answer to me was: “Lice.”
the guy looks like a teenager
Girl, either grow same bangs or sell billboard space on that forehead.
I wish she would act more often. I really liked her in six feet under and american beauty. Her tweet seemed very very sweet and excited and I hope she has a lot of happiness in her marriage
@Sumodo! Oh mi gawd, oh my dawg, holy shnikes, that is the best comment I have read all week!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pee in your pants funny.
i give that one about … 5 months tops.
Hope she’s happy, be a shame If she needs to do it again & marry nearer her own age. Like the 3 pigs “too big” Too small” “just right!”
a music producer??? He’s 25!!!!!? All these spoiled brats…im jealous!
@ The Bobster: LOL! I believe that bangs on females over the age of 5 should be illegal, but with Mena Suvari, I give her a pass. She NEEDS them, LOL!!
@ onyx: Totally agree!
They look cute. From way older to quite a bit younger… Good luck to them. An Italian wedding sounds romantic.

I’m going to nitpick and point out that Mena was in American Pie 2.
I love that she hasn’t gotten breast implants.
@Sumodo: The lice comment was funny. But I have to say that some young men simply prefer the low-maintenance option of no hair. My husband is 31, and has been shaving his head every 10 days or so for nearly 10 years. His hair is super thick and curly, so if he grows it out he has a blond afro. Hence the shaved look. 🙂
They do look alot like siblings, which is kinda creepy. I hope they’re happy, tho.
She actually was in the second American Pie, briefly… She was spending the summer in France.
I can’t believe I remembered that…
Look at him how “happy” he is. U bet it wont last? And pls, he’s just 25, he should play hard at this age, not marry.
