“American Idol” runner-up Crystal Bowersox now has pearly whites

Crystal Bowersox, the dreadlocked-single-mom who many think should have won this season of “American Idol,” but instead finished second, has posted new photos of herself with a new set of pearly white chompers. Crystal’s teeth were the subject of some nasty comments the entire season. Some bloggers even speculated that her teeth were the reason she didn’t win. Anyway, Crystal posted a photo of her new teeth on her Twitter account, and she looks great.

‘American Idol’ runner-up Crystal Bowersox took to her Twitter account to show off her new smile. “What’s NOT missing in this picture?????? Yeah. That’s right,” she wrote. The singer, who was known for her gap-toothed grin, took a trip to the dentist and it appears she couldn’t be happier with the results. Her rep tells PEOPLE that Bowersox decided to fix her pearly whites before going on tour.

During the entire season of ‘Idol,’ she refused to get her teeth fixed. Perhaps she didn’t want anything interfering with her singing during the competition.

On the first night of the ‘Idol’ finale, Bowersox’s rendition of Patty Griffin’s ‘Up to the Mountain’ earned raves from the judges. However, she ultimately fell short, and finished the competition in second place.

Like it or not, being famous means looking a certain way, and it seems like Crystal understands that. She really does look healthier and younger with the new chompers. I hope she still keeps her dreadlocks, though!

Tremendous improvement. Now if only she’d get rid of that nasty bit of business under her lip.

  2. dre says:

I heard she has diabetes and if that is so, shame on all of you for talking about her teeth. I have diabetes, and because of that my teeth are the same way. Diabetes wrecks your body, including your teeth!!!

  3. LindyLou says:

Huh. I wondered how long she’d wait before doing that. It’s inevitable when you’re in the entertainment business. It’s so superficial but that’s the way it is I guess.

  4. SolitaryAngel says:

@ dre: I have diabetes, too—and I haven’t been able to understand how my teeth suddenly got so yellow and brittle! Could you please give me more info about this? Thanks!! (Also, what is the best way to get them fixed—what worked for you?)

  5. Kitten says:

I didn’t watch this season. She looks nice with the new teef though. How and why does Diabetes do that? Just curious…

Perhaps in some cases, being famous means you have the money to do that kind of work to your teeth.

I’ve always had dry mouth and I take medications that worsen it – talk about a prescription for decay and porous teeth. My dentist goes crazy on me, I have every product I can find for mouth moisturizing (betcha didn’t know they had crap for that).

I know what that crap costs. A white crown is about $1500 where I live, an implant, around the same. I’m assuming she had whitening treatments and not veneers, although her teeth looked pretty far gone, so it’s hard to tell.

But a single mom, on what couldn’t have been a great income, can’t always afford to have nice pearly whites.

Ugh, I just had two crowns. And no dental insurance. (cry)

  7. Kayleigh says:

I didn’t know diabetes did that to teeth. That lip ring isn’t going to help much though.

  8. birdette says:

Now maybe she can wash her hair dreads are just the nasiest stinkiest grosses crap ever, ver got close to anyone’ dread’s smells like very where they have been for the last 5 yrs, GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. birdette says:

implants cost way more than crowns snow ball and you need MI paste for you dry mouth it will cause seious decay, dry mouth.
The teeth never bothered me as bad as the dirty gross hair. again dread locks are discusting, i would Never touch a pillow someone with dread sleeps on, so nasty.

  10. Deb says:

Now she needs to do something with that HAIR!

  11. Lesley says:

I’m glad that she’s happy. She seems like such a sweetheart and I love her personal style…dreads and all! She’s cute as hell!

  12. Atticus says:

Agree with you Lesley! I always liked her on the show. Hope she goes on to have a good career, and hope she keeps the dreads for however long she wants to. Always seemed to be true to herself, hope that keeps up.

Jewel has a crooked tooth that she never had fixed. She said it’d affect her singing. I think it gives her character. Also her husband is such a cutie patootie. (that has nothing to do with her teeth, just had to throw that in there)

  13. gg says:

My dentist charges 800 bucks per tooth for veneers. A friend of mine with no medical problems just got her mouth redone with implants and it was over $40,000. There is no cheap way to get an entire set of beautiful teeth.

As to any dental advice, you really should just ask your dentist for his suggestions on your particular teeth. For instance, even though veneers cost slightly less than crowns and/or implants, not everybody is a candidate for all these options. And flash whitening can cause chronic and permanent oversensitivity.

Atticus – Look again. Jewel has had her teeth fixed in recent photos. And I’m glad of it because it was highly distracting.

  14. Atticus says:

GG – did she?? Hmm, note to self: fine tune my attention to detail…

  15. Anna says:

Clean up the hair, get decent clothes and lose the piercing.

  16. GatsbyGal says:

@SolitaryAngel – Maybe you should, y’know, speak to your doctor or dentist about this?

I’m glad she was finally able to get her teeth fixed, I’m sure it was less of a cosmetic decision and more of a health one. Chewing is probably a lot easier for her now. And it’s just better overall to have nice, more functional teeth.

  17. daisy says:

who won? i thought she did? i didn’t watch though… lol

  18. Lindsay says:

Americans are weird about teeth. Why can’t people accept that facial features, bodies and yes, teeth, grow differently on different people. Why does everything have to be the same?

Erm, and people with slightly crooked, non white sparkly teeth can eat & chew just fine…

  19. Belle Epoch says:

snowball you just told my story!!!

Every time I have to get a gold crown it’s like, this could be a trip to Disneyworld right here.

Except now that the kids are older, the places I can’t go are getting even more interesting.
