Antoine Dodson of Huntsville, AL became an overnight sensation after he creatively ranted against his sister’s attacker on the local news this July. Antoine’s footage was made into a song by the Gregory brothers which is still on the iTunes music charts at #54 and has been viewed on YouTube over 22 million times. Antoine gets half the profits from the song and has also benefited from donations pouring in from people trying to help his family escape from the projects. It’s been successful, and Antoine has purchased his family a home:
Antoine Dodson — the 24-year-old Alabama native who became a YouTube sensation after he chased a would-be rapist from his sister’s bedroom — tells UsMagazine.com he is moving his family into a safer home.
“We found a house!” he tells Us, adding that he is so “excited … It’s for my whole family. And these are new houses that have just been built.”
Dodson is paying for the new pad thanks to money he earned after musicians the Gregory Brothers turned his tirade into an Auto-Tuned song that hit the top 50 iTunes list (Dodson got half the proceeds).
“I still can’t believe this,” he tells Us of his sudden fame. “Even though my life is moving forward, it’s at a standstill in my mind. I’m like, ‘Wow! All of this is happening just off a news interview!'”
Dodson says he doesn’t regret going off in the now infamous news segment.
“I was angry!” he tells Us. “I was like, ‘I can’t believe this!’ I was really mad and everybody took the video and put it all out there. Now I’m glad that the world knows what’s going on so they won’t sweep this under the rug. This will bring pressure on the police department and investigators investigating the case.”
Incidentally, he tells Us police still have no leads.
Luckily, he tells Us, “We made enough to move and get a house.”
Dodson says he also plans to return to school. “I signed up to finish my Associate’s Degree in business,” he says. “That way I can take everything to the next level and be on a more professional level.”
His ultimate goal? To “open a salon,” he tells Us. “Or a hotel.”

In an interview with NPR Antoine called his success “amazing” and said that he gets emotional when he thinks about what a whirlwind it’s been. “Everytime I get a chance with my sister we cry about it… two and a half weeks ago nobody cared. Now in the present day the whole world cares… it’s beautiful.”
Antoine was recently in NY, he recorded a video leaving from his house in Alabama and then headed to fashion week where he met celebrities and did appearances. He wrote on Facebook that he “Met so many interesting celebrities that I could’nt believe new me. How kool rite. Luv ya Max Tucci Omarion Katie Couric Mary J Knicks team and evryone I have met and show’d me love. Never will i 4get these moments.” He also met up with The Gregory Brothers of Auto-tune the News who helped make him famous. Antoine blogs that they talked over dinner about possibly making another single together.

Good for him. I know we all watched this thinking “oh look at this angry gay black guy…it’s hilarious” but what happened was NOT funny, and he was speaking out about that. I’m happy for him and his family 🙂
Good for him! Go Antoine!!
I have a feeling his success will bring about some hilarious future news interviews.
See? Good things can come from the internet!!
Congrats to Antoine. I am so happy for him. I wish him and his family nothing but the best. I also hope they catch that guy who attacked his sister.
I like this! Good for him, he seems so nice and appreciative. I love hearing good things. I have to admit my sister in-law and I have bed intruder for our ring tone, and we did download the song off of iTunes. I think Antoine would be such a hilarious, fierce hairdresser- he should go for it!
MEGA LUUUUUUUUVVVVV HIM!!!
Love this. It’s awesome that he is using his current popularity to do something good for his family.
restores my faith in humanity! you deserve the best
Care? No.
But it is entertaining.
god i am so happy for him!!!
what a great story. i think what helped him is his honesty. hell make it in the future. it helps to have a little zing in life and he has it. for such a horrible thing to happen, the intruder, its great to have such an awesome outcome. i suppose this is his silver lining.
Good for him!
love this guy! like michael k said, he’s like the irl lafayette. lol! this is a great story, and makes me think i should actually buy his ringtone on itunes (which i also love!). this guy is mad charismatic!
I’m really sorry, since it was such a serious issue, but I can’t stop laughing at that interview. I’m glad he bought a house and going back to school. Most would waste the money on a porshe or a music demo. I love that he isn’t trying to be famous but only trying to make his and his family’s life better.
Did they ever find that “IDIOT” who tried to rape his sister? And, good for him and his family…
he’s sooooooooo lucky his sister ALMOST got raped and possiably killed
Hide your Wife, hide your kids, hide your husband cause they rapin er’body out here
He is awesome! Thats great! 😀
YAY! Congrats, Antoine!
I’m glad it turned out well. Now I just hope something happens and they catch the punk guy who inspired this.
Whoa! He was on NPR?! How did I miss that?!
Anyhoo, good for him. I’m really happy he is using his “fame” (or whatever it is) to better himself & his family

I would so totally book a hair appointment with him!! Go Antoine! Protect your family in style now 🙂
@Bodhi: right? i need to go find his NPR interview online and listen to it!
@BethL, et al.: yeah, i love that he seems to be appreciative of what this has brought him! yes, its a serious matter, but like he says: 2 weeks ago, no one cared that his sister almost got raped! now he is moving his family to a better place and seems like he has the right attitude about moving forward in life
lovely
I just love that the news crew not only interviewed him…but aired it. It was real, raw and a totally honest interview, something so f*cking rare in this day in age. Let’s hope the homeboy stays true. (& I think he will….I have a good feeling about this guy)
Awww! This is so fantastic!
Far Out! Good News.
I found that NPR interview through Antoine’s YouTube channel. It is here!

Nothing but love! I adore this, and am happy for all the needy people who benefit from it. YAE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly, Samigirl, I never thought of him as “angry black guy”…I thought he was an adorable and funny angry guy. I loved how pissed he was at the bastard who tried to violate his sister. So glad to hear he’s having a great ride from this notoriety and that they managed to buy themselves a new home. GOOD LUCK ANTOINE!!
This totally restores my faith in humans as a species that out of something bad something good could come from it all. nice. 🙂
Feels so right.
I agree #9…faith in humanity=temporarily restored a little, lol
Please change the misleading title of this post. The title implies that he was the actual bed intruder, which a)is not accurate, and b) promotes racist stereotypes about black men. If that wasn’t your intention, then please change this. Remember, not everybody knows this story so if they just read the title, they will think this young black man is a criminal, which he is not. Please change this title, I find it dishonest, misleading, and offensive.
This dude was for real in what he was saying! He wasn’t playin for real.
The guy went after the f`in idiot who raped his sister.GO MAN GO.Nice going and I love the song x3
