Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie go shopping at Toys ‘R Us

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were seen shopping at Toys R Us in Cannes Nice, France today. They browsed the aisles while wearing sunglasses and casual clothing and looked annoyed at the paparazzi trailing them.

What interests me about these photos is that even have Toys R Us in France. We used to live in Switzerland on the border of France and I loved shopping there because it was pretty close to the excellent shopping in America. You do not realize how convenient it is to shop for just about everything in America until you live somewhere where even the grocery stores close at 6:00. But I don’t think my kid could stand it if he went into a whole Toy ‘R Us and was presented with so many options. Maybe that’s why Brad and Angelina left the kids at home – to reduce the begging factor.

Brad and Angelina may be shopping for Shiloh’s birthday. She turns two on May 27th, and celebrated her first birthday in Prague, where Angelina was filming Wanted. Thanks to Splash for these photos.

There is no Toys R Us in Cannes, it’s in Nice, about a half hour away.
And, yes we do have Toys R Us in France, we are not the backward country most Americans think we are.
But actually, not many french parents shop at Toys R Us…

  2. Linda says:

WOW – overload on Brangelina news!! It’s just too much – much like Bennifer!!! Give it a rest!

  3. Enonymouse says:

Who cares anymore, enough already. I swear, the media is overloading us with too much news about specific celebrities at a time just so we can turn on them big time and now with the whole Bradangelina thing, is working because I am sick at looking at them.

  4. Celebitchy says:

:): – I didn’t mean any disrespect about the shopping, or to imply that France was backwards at all. As an American who lived in Switzerland we preferred to shop in France or Germany. I now live in Germany and the shopping is a lot better. Thanks for letting me know that store is in Nice. The photo agency had it in Cannes, so I will update it.

@Linda – Today is pretty slow, so if there are decent paparazzi pictures we’re going to publish them. If you don’t want to look, don’t. There’s tons of Brangelina news because they’re in Cannes and getting photographed often.

  5. Bodhi says:

Oh CB, you should know by now that the “If you don’t like, don’t look” arguement doesn’t apply to AJ & BP! πŸ™„

  6. Mairead says:

get the hobby horse… get the hobby horse!!!

  7. m. says:

linda, i agree with you. there has been way too many stories about these tow, especially on this website in particular. also, the stories are not even interesting.

  8. Scott F. says:

Gotta kinda toss my two cents in here and agree about the amount of Brangelina coverage. I really hope you’ll all take into account that I’ve never had a bad word to say about either of them, and just hear me out.

I flipped through the last 2-3 weeks of stories, and the average of stories about either or both of them was 2-3 a calender day – so it’s not just because they’re at Cannes.

I think it’s not so much about the number though, it’s about what they cover. Most of them are just “Brad and Angelina go to Toys ‘R Us”, “Angelina takes girls Shopping”. Then at Cannes, you’ve got like 3 stories in one day just containing different pics of her at premiers.

It doesn’t bother me because they are being written, just that every irrelevant story about them is just another platform for people to scream at each other and rehash the same tired shit over and over. That is the only real downside of this site (and entertainment blogs in general) for me, and I imagine for a lot of other people – and I think that’s why we’d like to see it kept to a minimum.

Hope that was polite and respectful enough to get the point across I believe the others were trying to make.

  9. K says:

DANGER DANGER DANGER, Angelina and brad over load. May cause urge to vomit or headache.

  10. K says:

    Scott, excellent post.

  11. Celebitchy says:

Ok I will definitely ease up on the Brangelina coverage. It’s a hard call because the posts featuring these two get a lot of traffic and pageviews. People arguing in the threads makes money for the site, as much as it bugs me too.

And you make a good point Scott. We did not cover the “Angelina takes girls shopping” story, though, that was technically a link post. πŸ˜›

It’s not just us – we’re following the coverage in the media. It’s like the Britney thing, we followed that wave for a while and then we cut back on it when we got sick of it. I’ll definitely do less Brad and Angelina stories, but with Cannes I’m trying to cover all the major premieres because I’ve invested more in photos and can publish more photos on the site. I want to do more photo posts since we have the pictures now and people want to see them.

  12. Matilda says:

I was going to say the same about the coverage of Brangelina. It gets boring and tedious. I am glad those complaining have not been rude. Is it me or they don’t look very happy lately? Something is just not right. Pregnancy can cause tensions. These pictures illustrate what I am trying to say about their body language lately.

  13. Linda says:

CB – I think you need to do what you need to do regarding the coverage and what will generate the most traffic for you. Ignore us who complain about yet another shopping trip for Brangelina or another dinner out. You do what is best for your site.

But man, these 2 have more coverage and it is on overload – it will be interesting to see if they have the same fallout as JLo and Ben had from all the constant media focus.

  14. Angel says:

Great post, Scott F; it wasn’t offensive in the least.

CB, I personally don’t mind all the pics and stories about Brad & Angelina–I’d MUCH rather see them being great parents to their kids, or out trying to keep their relationship fresh (date nights), than seeing yet another picture of Britney’s stomach so people can continue to speculate on whether she’s pregnant yet again. Although, my disgust with Britney and her family stems from the fact that her Uncle T and my stepdad were best friends all their lives, and our families know each other. I was tired of her before she ever met K-Fed.

That being said, thanks for listening, and keep up the good work!

  15. jennifer says:

    i like the bradgelina stories,keep posting…please πŸ˜₯

  16. Mairead says:

    Awwww Jennifer, please don’t cry…. (again) πŸ™

    πŸ˜‰

Great post Scott and response CB – what about saving up the Brangie news and posting it as one big post at the end of the day, along with the links? It’ll keep the hit rate up and give us our daily dose of scratching our heads at the “other side”? πŸ˜†

Although I am seriously considering requesting an amendment to the Comment Policy – namely “Thou shalt not drag the name of Jennifer Aniston into a post unless she’s specifically mentioned within the body of the text” 😯

On Brangie, funnily enough Mathilda, I was thinking the exact opposite – that I’d not seen them looking happier and LESS worried. But I suppose how “happy” does any couple look doing the shopping?

  17. Scott F. says:

C.B. – Thanks for hearing me out and letting me know the reasoning. I really do understand this is a business, but as you’ve demonstrated, so is ‘customer relations’. It’s always nice to know you’re being heard. I really liked the above idea about just having a catch-all article at the end of the day.

Like I said, it has nothing to do with you, your site, or any of your writers – just the crazies that are brought out of the woodwork by these articles.

  18. countrybabe says:

I know that Brangelina usually gets alot of traffic, but I haven’t been to this site in days and I’ve noticed over time there are many posts. I think people are getting bored of them. Only 16 post here on this story today. It was like 30 or 40. πŸ˜›

  19. h says:

Toys R Us? Are you kidding me? Dear Brangelina, you are in France. You are artists. Surely you can come up with something more creative, cultural, more ethnic for your kids. Even American kids can enjoy toys other than China-made toys from gigantic shopping malls. You don’t need to be from Vietnam to play a beautiful traditional drum carved from wood in the shape of frogs, for example.

I don’t understand why people travel if they only shops at the same stores, buy from the same brand/designer, and eat the same food. If so, why not stay home? It’s safe at home, and you can help to cut down the carbon emission from the planes as well!

  20. sue says:

Brad and Angie happened to attend an important function in the cannes festival. Would this stop them from the everyday notion of doing some shopping more so of getting something for a birthday of a precious kid? Come on H, don’t be ridiculous!!

  21. Riri says:

    1. Why are they wearing sunglasses inside a store.

    2. Do what is best for your traffic and don’t listen to what some are saying. They certainly DO NOT represent the majority of what people think.

You should know by now, that the Brangelina are paying a PR team to make sure they rebuttal any negative comments about them, and it’s not your job to make their lives easier and post only one thing with links, so they have less work…

    3. It’s obvious that some of the publicity frenzy is being created by the couple themselves who need it to promote their films.

That is why they are there. They want to make a statement and build their brand around “family and children” which is better than other issues that presented them in negative light and didn’t do good for their career.

You should not feel uncomfortable when they are the ones behind many of those publicized outings and attention garnering.

    4. Shopping in Europe could be difficult for an American. I totally get it, but they got tons of money and can actually afford better than Toys R US.

I guess an American stays an American no matter how much money they have, and that’s natural that they will raise their children with accordance to their American culture.

  22. journey says:

(in a quiet whisper) don’t hate me, but i kinda like all the pitt clan news and photos. and if it puts more money in the c.b. gang’s pockets, so much the better.

  23. Diva says:

And why, again, is it that if you don’t want to read about these two you can’t just NOT open the article???? I skip articles that don’t interest me all the time, and I’m certainly not going to complain that they’re here!

  24. h says:

I guess people don’t get it. A more creative toy for your kid is not necessarily expensive.

I can understand a middl-class mother who is busy and have no means to find something better for her kids.

But, Sorry, I have to be harsh on Brangelina here because 1) this lady likes to boat about her concerns about “the rest of world” 2) she has the means. Actually all she has been doing after she arrived in France is shopping, shopping and shopping, which demonstrated well in those photos.

To be honest, I usually feel sorry whenever I leave a remark about Brangelina thread. I think their fans tend to lack of sense of humor and are pretty blind about their idols. It has always been an unpleasant experience to talk about Brangelina, particular on this site.

I support the less coverage of their news. Because if Celebitchy only cover their news, we can only comment on these posts. And their fans are always very harsh on whoever disagree with them. Then, it leaves people nothing to talk about.

  25. Tracy says:

God, isn’t she tired yet?! I had twins and I was wiped out everyday. Of course, I guess if my job was to be pretty and get my picture taken all day, I could cope better.

  26. Tracy says:

    h,
    I agree 100% with all.

  27. Rach says:

I’d just like to say that i don’t think you should stop putting pics and news of Brad and Ange on your website just because a few people out of the worlds population are fed up of reading about them i mean please it’s not really difficult to avoid reading about them if it bothers you! Wtf is up with humans these days all the do is whine bitch and complain about things they can easily avoid..IF YOU DON’T LIKE LOOKING AT THEM FUCK OFF SOMEWHERE ELSE! It’s as simple as that…i love Brad and Ange..they’re alot more interesting than most other measley celebrities out there and if it gives you more traffic to your website carry it on..hell, you think these people that are moaning even care about your website and how much traffic you get? No, they obviously only care about themselves and what THEY want..keep up the good work that’s what i say! And to all those that don’t like reading about Brad and Ange..WHY ARE YOU HERE? AND WHY ARE YOU READING THIS? cockroaches! Long live the Jolie-Pitts! Oh and to the dumbass who said “why would they wear sunglasses inside?” It’s because there’s about a hundred cameras flashing at them wherever they go..how long would your eyes be able to put up with that huh? well i guess we’ll never know..fool

  28. Carrie says:

I agree with Diva. The beauty (I use the term loosely) of this site as opposed to some other blogs is that the layout allows you to cherry pick the items you want to look at. I only click on the ones with the most gossip mileage or newsworthy headers. Unless I’m REALLY bored at work when I’ll even read about Paris Hilton’s latest words of wisdom.

  29. Mairead says:

H, I’m not saying this to have a nasty argument, but to try and explain “the other side” in this.

Many of us who get labelled as “Brangeloonies” (I’m thinking of me, gg, headache, syko, geronimo, bohdi et al – sorry if I got any of you guys wrong) as far as I’m aware aren’t “huge” fans of Angelina or Brad – there are other actors or musicians who most of us value more highly.

I mean, I do like her and think she’s a decent actress. As for her “do-goodery” – well, they’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Personally, I think celebrities have a duty to carry out charitable works.

I do remember that the comments were rabidly Antilina when I first started posting here regularly. The level of venom and sheer irrationality that were being flung about, was very uncomfortable. You would honestly swear that Angelina (Brad rarely) was responsible for all the evil in the world and can just do no right. Every little thing was a stick to beat them with.

As a very mild example, your criticism of the fact that they were seen shopping on multiple occasions (outside of the issue of where they shopped).

Is that really such a dreadful thing to do? Of course they could send PAs to do that for them and not avail of the photo-op. But meh – considering how many children in Europe alone barely have food to eat much less toys to play with, I think energy is being wasted on something that’s beyond irrelevant.

If she did “boast her concerns” I can guarantee that there would be slavering comments denouncing her.

This behaviour (have a look at d-listed for the average type of comment) made some of us “Brangeloonies” sit back and think that this was unfair and unjustifiable and tried to present a fairer view.

Again, I’m not saying this just for pig iron, or to criticise you, H, I’m merely using your post as a relevant example and no insult was intended.

  30. Celebitchy says:

Re: the shopping – before I had a kid I was pretty high and mighty about what people “should” do with their children and their choices, but now I’m pretty much live and let live. Sometimes you want a specific item or convenience, and it’s not always available at a smaller boutique store. There is nothing wrong with shopping at a chain store. You are right that she’s damned no matter what she does. If she was at a higher end place, it would be all “oh she’s too rich to shop with the normal people.”

Re: the Brangelina coverage: I have been thinking about this, and Scott F is right it really does matter to us what you want and what you think. At the same time, I can’t ignore the numbers.

I wanted to add one more thing about the coverage of these two – if we don’t do it, we don’t stay on top of the news. Practically everyone covered these pictures, including US Weekly and E! We don’t have to go along with everyone, but if we don’t you’ll just see them somewhere else and maybe think we’re not on top of the news like the other sites. I also see that a lot of people want to see their photos, and since we pay good money to license photos we may as well use them.

I completely understand the Brangelina burnout and will ease up on the coverage and not report when they take a crap though. πŸ˜€

Re: people being labeled Brangeloonies Some of the oldest and weakest arguments are called “straw man” and “excluded middle,” according to Karl Sagan, who outlined the fallacies of logic and reasoning in a clear way that I often refer to:

    – Excluded middle – considering only the two extremes in a range of possibilities (making the “other side” look worse than it really is).
    – Straw man – caricaturing (or stereotyping) a position to make it easier to attack..

  31. geronimo says:

    My 2p worth:
Can I just agree here with anyone who puts commerce and income generation for the site before personal preference as far as Ang & Brad posts are concerned. An inability or unwillingness to ignore posts you don’t like or are not interested in is not the site’s problem. Indulging the readership is all very well (and very kind) but to not include what are imo relevant (for a gossip site) Brangelina posts to the detriment of falling traffic (aka income) is madness.

It’s not going to make the slightest difference to me and I really don’t understand why it’s an issue for other people. Make your money, CB!

  32. h says:

    Fine. Bye bye.

  33. Rach says:

I agree with Geronimo. There’s always going to be people complaining about what you put on these websites but you need to get your priorities right and not think about the select few that will moan about it..think about the traffic you’re generating afterall, that’s what you want right? more traffic. So most normal people would not read about them if they didn’t want anyway it’s only the whiners who will waste their time like that and what’s the point in catering to them anyways?? Keep up with the Brad and Angelina news!

  34. neelyo says:

There was a good article on salon.com recently about the death of gossip. Their argument was that gossip wasn’t interesting anymore because there was such a proliferation of it and the players were no longer interesting (the cast of THE HILLS, etc.).

My argument is that most of it doesn’t even constitute gossip. Someone going shopping or buying a frappucino is worthy of coverage? I don’t think so. The fascination with Brangelina is that they were involved in probably the only true scandal of the last five years.

Even though the pea brained starlets like Lindsay, Paris, etc. get into trouble, they play it up for the media so it’s kind of boring. They’re not trying to hide anything, so it’s not scandal or gossip, it’s just publicity and thus, useless to me.

  35. mercedes says:

I’ve been reading all your comments above about whether or not C.B. should cover Brad and Angelina so much and as much as I get your point that they are over-exposed, if this annoys any of you, why donΒ΄t you just skip the posts about them? Why don’t you just read the posts about those celebs that you are most interested in?
I personally don’t mind reading about them since I’m spanish and in Spain we don’t get to hear about them a lot, but as someone said, I just don’t stand Britney so I don’t bother to read anything concernig her.But I understand CB’s work and respect that she has to attract as many readers as possible.

  36. countrybabe says:

h, I agree with you 100 percent. I found a website the other day in which you can give a girl medical care in the Sudan for 25 dollars for a whole year. I think as these sites become more common, celebrities won’t be needed to draw attention to any cause. πŸ˜†

  37. Diva says:

I could be in the minority here, but the interest in the posts about Brad and Angelina, and many others, isn’t in the content of them shopping, or in a pool, or pushing a stroller across a street, it’s in the pictures. Do I care Brad and Angelina are in Toys R Us? No, I shop at Toys R Us, it doesn’t matter to me where they shop. But I like to look at pictures of them. Do I care that Britney Spears decided to take a dip in the ocean? No, I go swimming when the weather is right so why shouldn’t she. But I like to look at the pictures. I’m not going to argue that’s the reason the paparazzi do the shit they do, but the fact is, we like to look at celebrities, that’s why we’re here. That’s why cb has a site. That’s why those posts get the traffic they do.
Maybe, if you don’t like the posts, and the reason they’re so prolific is because of the traffic and number of comments they generate, you STOP clicking on them, STOP commenting on them.

And cb… don’t forget, there are a huge number of us that DO like the Brad and Angelina posts. Please don’t leave us behind.

  38. Indie says:

If Brangelina is overexposed, whose fault is it? Like Celebitchy explained, she gets a lot of traffic when she posts their pictures or stories about them, so if those who claim to be sick of them stop clicking on their links, the blog owners will get the message.

I have never liked Jennifer Anniston, always thought she was a fraud, so I don’t click on any posts about her because she truly bores me, and since I have no interest in her, I don’t read about her and as such have no need to bitch about her posts.

The comparison between Brangelina( I hate that moniker)and Bennifer does not exist. Brad and Angelina seem to have their priorities straight and have more in common. For two megastars with megawatt careers, can you imagine the planning and communication that go on for them to always be together and not one being away for months working while one is off somewhere else. Give credit where it is due, they have put in the work into their relationship, none of the gossip hags gave them longer than 6months, now they are in their 4th year.

Celebitchy, it is your site, do what works for you. Brad and Angelina are really the only celebrities that I am interested in and don’t go from blog to blog complaining about celebrities because every click shows interest, I am indifferent to most of them and don’t waste my time, so for those complaining, you don’t like a celebrity, skip their posts that is the best way to register your indifference.

  39. K says:

The idea of having one main story and then providing a link to more stories can keep every one happy.

  40. lola says:

Of course there is a Brangelina burn out, there had to be one if any one is that over exposed. It is just that now there is nothing new about them. We have seen it all. Adoptions, charity, rumours truths etc. They can no longer pull rabbits out of the hat.

The traffic on their threads is caused by the same people about 5 people. Their fans drove most people off the site anyway. It is like that JustJared site. The same people write all those posts which are the same all the time. I guess her brother is one of them and a couple of people hired by their PR machine.

Don’t know many people outside the internet who like them or can stand them. I guess three years from now we won’t even hear about them. That is how this business works.

That one thread idea is brilliant. Even when you don’t want to see them, they kind of ruin a site, just their over oiled pictures.

  41. lola says:

Indie, if they are in their fourth year, then they got together when Brad was married proper. I thought you fans never thought they committed adultery. Besides, he was 7 years with his ex and look how he treated her. I don’t mind splits they happen all the time but Pitt is a wimp and a cad for the way he treated his ex wife. Yes it is over and done with, I just don’t like it when fans want to believe that these two losers are saints. They are not.

  42. jennifer says:

    lola-yeah 5 people make 777172366 hits?
please !!you can be a brangelina fan and have a life πŸ˜†

  43. Reality Check says:

i like looking and reading about Brad and Angelina to those people complaining about Brad & Angelina threads don’t look if you dont like them, just like i’m not interested in any Jennifer Aniston picture/news so i never so i don’t go to her thread. Indifference is the best if you don’t like a certain person/celebrity. It’s so easy but NO haters are all DRAMA QUEENS.

  44. Steph says:

This is hilarious. I did an advanced google search for “angelina jolie” AND/OR “brad pitt” AND “toys ‘r us” OR “toy store” and found no other pictures of either of these two at any branch of this chain store before this. (Granted I really didn’t put a lot of effort in. I just wanted to make sure I hadn’t missed some previous massive event regarding toy stores) So how do you guys know where they buys all their childrens toys? Maybe they normally shop at different toy stores but now that they’re not “at home” they stopped in somewhere they knew they could look for whatever they needed and if found, could then grab it and get in and out. I don’t like shopping in stores that are crowded (let alone now full of photogs!) so if you followed me around all day and took pictures of me in a crowded supermarket I’d probably be making much worse faces. It’s absolutely true if she was shopping at some expensive-ass boutique (regardless of global location) it would be snobby BUT if she shops at Toys ‘R Us like the rest of us, it’s slumming and short-changing her kids! How do you know she’s simply “staying American” by shopping there rather than making a once in a while stop to buy some stuff for your kids when travelling? I’m not saying I know one way or the other but why so quick to judge? The idea of what your life would be like if you earned as much as they did for what you perceive they do (e.g., “making millions for looking pretty and getting your picture taken”) is PROBABLY a whole lot different from the way things are for them. I’ve never been able to seriously contemplate my life combined with the amount of money they have or have the potential to earn, therefore judging their actions (especially with parenting) from my point of view isn’t really fair. I love how the whole “do unto others” principle just dies in the ass once people get online or talk about celebrities.
