Susan Sarandon hates Botox, loves guzzling tequila & boning young guys

It’s her birthday today! Happy birthday, Susan! Anyway, I swear, I feel like I’ve read this Susan Sarandon interview before, but I guess I’m wrong. It seems to be new. Maybe she’s just been repeating herself lately? Could be. Anyway, Susan has given an extensive interview to The Telegraph to promote her supporting part in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (I think she plays Shia LaBeouf’s mother, maybe), and no subjects are off-limits. She talks about sex, tattoos and her split from Tim Robbins. Oh, and the interview takes place at the ping-pong club Susan is invested in – the same place where her young lover, Jonathan Bricklin, is a co-owner. The full piece is here, and here are some highlights:

On Botox: ‘I’m afraid of Botox, As an actress you have to use your face. But I do think a woman has a right to do whatever she wants with her body.’

On drugs and clean living: ‘I was lucky to come of age at a time when there were consciousness-opening drugs as opposed to the meaner chemical drugs.’ Later she mentions that she is on a health kick, not even drinking coffee. So drugs are out of the question then, I say. ‘I wouldn’t go that far,’ says Sarandon, laughing. ‘And I do like tequila.’

On her first husband, Chris Sarandon, who she married when she was 20 years old: ‘He was the first person I ever had sex with and my best friend. I married so young but took it very seriously; I never had that kind of free-love 1960s. I was slow to lose my virginity. In fact, throughout my life I’ve been with so few people; I’m one of those serial monogamists. I was never that wild, although I was a bit of a hippie chick. I think I probably still am a hippie chick.’

On getting cougar parts: ‘Certainly if there is an older woman/younger guy theme they seem to come to me. I think it’s great that people see me as being multifaceted and still desirable and smart and funny. What more could you ask?’

On her politics: ‘I’ve never had anyone come up and say to me, “You suck as an actor,” but I’ve had people say, “You commie c–nt,” which is shocking when you’re nursing a baby in the middle of the afternoon.’

On not ever marrying Tim Robbins: ‘I’ve always liked the idea of choosing to be with somebody, I thought that if you didn’t get married you wouldn’t take each other for granted as easily. I don’t know if after twentysomething years that was still true.’

On their split: ‘People were coming up to me in the street and saying “I cried and cried when I heard.” Well, I was sadder! I didn’t think it would ever happen, either.’ She implies that her relationship with Robbins ran its course. ‘You bring people into your life at certain times. Maybe you have a relationship to have children and you realise that it’s fulfilled after that point.’

On the dating-Bricklin rumors: Rumour has it that Sarandon is involved with her Spin business partner, Jonathan Bricklin, 31, who is chatting to her when I arrive. ‘You have to have a sense of humour,’ she says about the reports. ‘There are lots of people in my life at the moment.’

[From The Telegraph]

So… I guess Susan is dating Bricklin, and probably some other dudes. I have to admit, if I was an older gentleman, I would probably go for Susan. She seems like a lot of fun, and I buy that she really is this natural. She’s not the woman who has to get Botoxed for every event, she’s not the woman who puts herself out there as the “Look At Me, I’m Still Sexy!” cougar. Hell, I’d kind of like to date her right now.

Look at these sexy photos of Susan making out with Matthew Fox!

    Go Susan!

  2. cowbell says:

    Good for her.

  3. Po says:

She is really very pretty, but not the “worked on” type of pretty. She seems to look exactly her age and that she has taken care of herself. She can’t possibly be in to drugs or alchol to look this good. There are pictures of Linsday Lohan where she looks older than Susan.

  4. Jean says:

I’ve never been a fan of Susan, but she looks fabulous.

  5. RHONYC says:

    dammit!
    janet!
    i looove yooooou!!!

    she still rocks, man. 🙂

  6. Jaded says:

Attention all you L.A. wives – you know who you are – the bleached, botoxed, dermafilled, stretched, expressionless, over-worked out, gristly women. THIS is how women should age! She’s gorgeous and real! She and Helen Mirren really are the poster-women for aging gracefully and beautifully.

  7. beanie says:

She’s beautiful..I hope I look that good and am that sexy when I’m older. I agree with Jaded 200%!

  8. maria says:

    Today she is my hero.

  9. Green Is Good says:

    Co-sign with Jaded.

    Sorry. I can’t help it:

    “Damnit Janet! I love you!”

  10. Lynda says:

    She’s got a KILLER rack!!

  11. Aqua says:

She looks fantastic!this is how ageing should be done.Gracefully.

  12. Cheyenne says:

Damn, she looks hotter at 63 than most women do at 23. You go, lady!

  13. Sara says:

I love her, she’s so pretty.

  14. Whitey Fisk says:

    Lynda, my thoughts exactly.

  15. Anne says:

Susan Sarandon will always be an amazing woman.

  16. original kate says:

great actress and she looks great too. my role model for how a woman can age and still look lovely, confident and sexy as fawk.

  17. Ron says:

WOOO HOOOO!!! Note to actresses: Againg naturally shows character and if you have the chops, you will continue to work. She and Meryl are setting great example of again gracefully on screen

  18. Cheyenne says:

She’s been my role model ever since I saw her doing Louise to Geena Davis’s Thelma.

    “What did you say?” *BLAM!*

  19. Sumodo1 says:

It works–for HER! I am ready for the full body lift right now! From my fat ankles to my hairline–all of it!

  20. pebbles says:

Sorry, I’m calling b.s. on the fact that she’s never had any cosmetic anti-aging procedure. She’s 63, folks. 63. As a comment in the Tom Cruise post alludes, gravity takes its toll and there is NO sagging or drooping in the jaw on this woman. She would have some kind of jowl forming at 63.

  21. liz says:

    She looks amazing!

  22. Taurus says:

Susan fking rocks! Beautiful without all the botox and tuggin and pullin. I would love to have some wine and good conversations with her. One of my fave actresses.
@Pebbles even if she did have something done she stills looks tasteful and natural.

    MJ FOR HGF!

  23. elaine says:

Cheyenne – Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Yeah. One of my all-time role models in real life.

To the extent that you could find it in Hollywood, she epitomizes “This above all. To thine own self be true.”

This woman does what she wants.

    Boldly.

    I love her.

  24. Mary Jane says:

Love Ms. Sarandon! If you look under her eyes, it does look au naturelle.
Howe’er, that brown dress is very unflattering — LOVE the clutch though!

  25. P.J. says:

Sarandon had a major facelift several years ago. I don’t remember exactly when, but in her mid-50s she was starting to look really old, and then suddenly she looked much younger.

I believe her when she says she’s afraid of Botox, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t tried other ways of looking better. There is no way she could have a jawline like that without some intervention.

  26. Benny says:

If she’s had work done, she did it correctly. It didn’t change her natural appearance, only took away some of the usual sags that come with age (jowels). Diane Keaton too. While I admire actresses who have to courage to not have ANY work done, it’s hard for them to do that and keep getting jobs. It’s a tough business. But if they are going that route, at least some do it correctly and not go overboard.

  27. Sassy says:

    Love her, she’s beautiful!

  28. Cheyenne says:

@elaine: When she shot that rapist dead in “Thelma and Louise”, all the women in the audience erupted into cheers.

  29. Hautie says:

I too suspect she had her face done. And had it done before it would be obvious.

That is the thing with getting the lift done. You should just look well rested.

Not pulled within a inch of your life. *coughJoanRiverscough*

Miss Sarandon must have had her upper lids done but not the lower.

Getting those lower lids done too early, will really screw with the shape of your eyes. And she probably did not need them done at that the time.

The problem in LA is that they want to look plastic as hell. Big bug eyes, fish lips and bolted on boobs look. They want to look worked on.

I saw an interview with Tim Robbins a few months back… and it was him leaving, that broke them up. He is basically having his own little mid-life crisis and decided he needed to be single. And sadly he came off a little douche’ behaving.

  30. hatsumomo says:

    This woman stinks of desperation.

  31. Nanea says:

To me Susan still looks like Janet Weiss, meaning any work she had done was subtle, unlike people who have opted for major disfigurement like Meg Ryan or Kim K, or LiLo with her trout/duckbill lips.

  32. xxodettexx says:

@pebbles, not necessarily, my friends are always amazed at my mom and grandmother’s ages, and i always get mistaken for a young teen [i am 29] so it could be that she *did* just take care of herself and has excellent genes!

  33. Cheyenne says:

@Hatsumomo: Where in the world do you get that? She’s not trying to look like an ingenue. She didn’t have her face pulled so tight that she looks like a mummy and she’s not trying to dress like a teenager, prancing around in ripped jeans and mini-skirts.

For a woman her age she looks damn good. You should look half as good at half her age.

@xxodettexx: I used to get carded in restaurants in NYC when I was 30. It was embarrassing as hell. And the legal drinking age in New York back then was 18.

  34. sssus says:

She and Helen Mirren are two hotties. I can only hope to look as good as them as I age. Hell, I don’t look that good.

  35. P.J. says:

Agreed, she’s got one of the best lift jobs I’ve ever seen (although she was always incredibly gorgeous by nature).

If only she would share the name of her dermatologist/plastic surgeon!

I’m surprised that it was Robbins who initiated the breakup. I’d just assumed that she was the one who left, since she was always sort of a free spirit.

  36. Chris says:

How does a woman “bone” a guy? Does you put on a strap on or something?

Divorced, hitting the bottle and sleeping with people way younger than her; sounds like a midlife crisis to me.

  37. Anon says:

    She’s awesome. I love her.

Wow. I agree with others. I was surprised that Robbins was the one who broke it off.

Chris Sarandon for Hot Guy Friday, please? I love him. He was so mesmerizing in Fright Night.

  38. Chris says:

    What, Robbins broke it off?

Okay, make that: jilted, hitting the bottle and sleeping with much younger guys, it’s almost certainly a midlife crisis.

Excuse the mistake in my previous post. I was at work and therefore posting under duress.

  39. kim says:

Love how these actresses verbage things – she said she is afraid of botox NOT i dont have botox because she has a TON of botox in that face! Its their way of not officially lying on record about using botox by pretending they dont like it BUT not saying I dont use it.

  40. Cirque28 says:

She obviously has a (gorgeous) fuller figure than she once did, but it’s a healthy weight for her age and helps her face look youthful.

I can never understand why Hollywood men are not expected to have the exact same lanky bodies they had in their 20’s (Tom Hanks, John Travolta, etc, etc), but somehow the women are supposed to stay a size 0-2 until the day they keel over.
