The Huffington Post points us to this video of Keira Knightley singing in a retro-look clip from her upcoming film, The Edge of Love. That’s really her singing and she has a decent voice . Unlike Scarlett Johansson, I don’t see Keira overestimating her vocal ability and putting out an album any time soon. Keira said that she had voice lessons to prepare for the role, in which she plays a singer, and that she’s “never been so frightened in my entire life.”
Actress Keira Knightley was left traumatised after having to show off her vocal talents in new film The Edge Of Love.
The star, 23, was terrified of singing in front of an audience – and has vowed never to sing in public again.
She says, “I did some lessons with a voice coach because I can’t sing. There were 100 extras and John (Maybury, the director) was like, ‘Now you’re going to sing…’
“I’ve never been so frightened in my entire life.”
And Knightley admits the experience was so horrific, she’ll never embark on a career in the music industry.
She tells Total Film, “I don’t know how singers do it. I never want to have to do it again. I don’t want to be a rock star.”

The Edge of Love is out in the UK on June 27, and is about two women vying for the attention of poet Dylan Thomas. It also stars Sienna Miller
Keira Knightley is shown in the header at the Elle UK style awards on 2/12/08, thanks to WENN.
It shows she’s very nervous but she swings it alright.
What’s up with those huger than huge teeth of hers though? Or am I imagining things? She didn’t seem to have those until now. Veneers?
I love Keira. Love her movies, love that she is low key and somewhat humble. Love her!
She’s always had those teeth. You can see they’re just slightly crooked, with the two on either side of her front teeth jutting out ever so slightly… so I don’t think they’re veneers. They HAVE been bleached within an inch of her life, through.
Mine are just slightly smaller than that so now I’m a little self-consious.
Well I’m impressed, she’s pretty good. She captured that 40’s war-time songbird sound.
Love her!
Not bad at all – i really like the super-saturated colouring and her styling is spot on. She made a decent go of the song too 😀
It’s funny what you say about the teeth. I remember watching a documentary on Dr. Zhivago and Geraldine Chaplin said that no matter how much effort the costume designers put into making period dramas as true to the time as possible, but there was always something that placed the film in the time it was made. with Dr. Z it was the hair – Julie Christie’s fringe and Chaplin’s beehive.
So possibly the current craze with superbright teeth will be the marker of when this film was made.
I absolutely adore Keira Knightley. She always seems so down-to-earth, fresh yet mature and sounds rather intelligent.
And she is one of the few celebrities to not only claim she doesn’t like the paparazzi but also manages to stay often away from them.
I thought she looked gorgeous in that little clip. Her voice is suprisingly agreeable and very nice to listen to.
Once again, Keira shows us she is made for time pieces…
As for her teeth: she has always had those (or at least since the very start of her career) and they aren’t all perfect.
The superbright colour looks as if it has been virtually enhanced (even George C’s new teeth aren’t that white)… And maybe extrawhite teeth will be the time marker of the current film period as Mairead commented above.
What happened to her thin lips?
I actually think she is pretty but she kind of has the same spot in showbiz as Natalie Portman, so when one of then is on a roll, the other has a set back in her career.
Wow, she did a great job! Definitely captured the sort of style for the time. And I like how humble she is about it.
I heard Johansson sing in “The Other Boleyn Girl” and was not that impressed [though it wasn’t really supposed to be impressive]… but then I saw her album at Target and I was like, “OKAY. You’re not THAT awesome.”
I think the marker of this period in film will be the prima donnas’ statures. Kightley’s face is beautifully made up and classic and retro-glam, and then the camera pans to reveal her entire body and BAM, bobblehead! (Please don’t tell me she’s not anorexic… either she diets severly or she has a tapeworm.) In the 1940’s, I’m guessing they would look at her and call her “consumptive”. Her voice is lovely, though. All the vocal training comes through.
Riri: That’s a very interesting observation. Especially considering the whole Star Wars thing…I think alot of people didn’t really notice when they traded places. But it does make me wonder, how Natalie Portman would have done the song. I think Keira did pretty well, I was surprised by how high her voice is naturally because her speaking voice is rather low.
NOT bad at all.
Those teeth could get anyone through a darkened tunnel.
People keep on gushing about how good looking angelina is. Keira is a 1000 times more beautiful and sexy, she has a decent singing voice.
That cutie can sing. I might just get that track. 😀
Keira has charm but IMO is too skinny, angular and hard to be sexy. Very pretty though. She shines in that clip.
I can tell she was nervous. She’s got a good singing voice but if you look at her face she looks like she just can’t get into it. But she’s comfortable doing sex scenes topless, just not singing? That’s completely odd.
