Call me crazy, but I didn’t see this breakup coming, and I really should have. Carey Mulligan gave what seems like a confirmation that she and Shia LaBeouf are over, and that she’s moving back to England after they called the whole thing off. Sources are now rushing to confirm that yes, the couple has split. The two had met during the filming of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, where Carey played Michael Douglas’s daughter and Shia played Carey’s lover. That was last year – and they just finished promoting the damn movie a few weeks ago. So my guess is that they’ve probably been broken up for a little while, but just stayed together to promote the film, even though it’s not like they spoke about each other or posed for photos together. Here’s more from the interview where it sounded like Carey confirmed the damn thing:
Carey Mulligan is returning to Britain from America after cooling her relationship with Shia LaBeouf, her co-star in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. Starring in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps was good for Carey Mulligan’s bank balance, but it does not seem to have brought any lasting satisfaction in her love life.
Mandrake hears that the 25-year-old actress is returning to Britain after cooling her relationship with Shia LaBeouf, 24, who played her boyfriend in the film.
“I’m moving back to England: it’s a long story,” she told friends at the premiere of her latest film, Never Let Me Go, in the West End of London.
When I asked the actress, who was a boarder at Woldingham School, in Surrey, why she was returning just a few months after she had professed her love for New York, she was demure. “I am spending some more time here at the moment,” she said. “Just spending time with my family, really.”
Last December, I disclosed that Mulligan had embarked on a romance with her American co-star in the sequel to Wall Street, whose theme was “greed is good”. Oliver Stone, its maker, joked: “I seem to be a good casting director.”
In May, the actress, who was nominated at the Academy Awards for her role in An Education, said: “I love New York, maybe more than Los Angeles or London. I could live in New York. I think I’m happiest [there].”

Reasons for the split? Let’s see… “Carey has cooled” to Shia, or the English-American relationship was to much to overcome, or that they were just working on different projects and they grew apart. Also, there are some rumors about Shia and his Transformers 3 costar, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Although Rosie’s boyfriend Jason Statham might have something to say about that. With his fists. Now, I wouldn’t put it past Shia to cheat on Carey… I just don’t think it was with Rosie. Also: Shia seems petty, and like he doesn’t really know how to be in a mature relationship right now. There was a report early in their relationship that Shia was acting very jealous and juvenile towards Carey, and I could buy that about him.
Such a lovely couple. They had great chemistry, in Wallstreet: Money Never Sleeps.
Isn’t she making a movie with Ryan Gosling right now? Maybe she traded Shia’s whiney ass for a MUCH better one!
who cares their young and stupid plus they moved to fast it was bound to implode. and besides she’s a bigger star than him due to her oscar nomination so mister Macho was probably jealous of her. though not all boyfriends/fiances/husbands are jealous when their girlfriends/fiancee’s/wives are nominated for or win an oscar for example Paul Newman when Joanne Woodward won best actress right after they were married wasn’t jealous infact he clapped the loudest to show how proud he was of her though that triumph was bittersweet because of her then recent miscarriage.
Because she’s actually talented and a rising star in Hollywood, and he’s just a child-star-turned-action-star who swings from vines like a monkey?
Yep, think that might be it. Oh, and that he’s a giant douche.
I stil think that picture of him kissing her nose is just adorable!
She’s too adorable for him.
I think she was too good for him. She is talented and seems sweet. And he is overated a little bit concieted and has gotten into dumb little problems in the past. I think they will both be fine but her future looks a tad brighter.
i think this love story was only to promote oliver Stone’s movie! it was too great to be true:the It girl with the new Tom Cruise
Me too Gobo!!! both look just gr8 together!
Cute couple. Hope they get back together.
Maybe she just got tired of him always talking about Frankie Muniz!
@Courtney – LOL, you leave the most bizarre posts. I don’t mean any disrespect – just that everytime you post you mention either a.Paul Newman b.Joanne Woodward c.Patricia Neal d.all of the above. Are you working on a biography or something?!
she’s much too cute/talented/smart for him. he seems pretty douchey.
Maybe they split because they were just a ‘promo fling’ to help the movie. I would believe it.
Cool, now I can have him! Hope my husband doesn’t mind 😉
Oh boo!! I really liked them together!!
I too, liked them together but he seems a little too immature for any kind of a relationship right now. It probably was a relationship meant to last as long as making and promoting the movie. It happens all the time.
stop blaming Shia. carey cheated on him with Tom Mison.
Well that’s a shame cos the chemistry they had in Wall Street 2 was awesome. It sounds like Shia’s not quite as well mature as his WS2 character, not that I’m suggesting he’s to blame.
Not a big WTF development.
I like Shia because of his acting, but in real life he is kinda messed up. Being mean to paparazzi, having alcohol problems, the Walgreens thing and then the drunk driving.
Carey seemed to nice for him, maybe even change his reckless behavior.
I liked them together. They were really sweet in their pictures. I especially like the one of him kissing her nose. Young love! I hope they get back together.
what do women see in this little twerp?(besides $$$$$)??
What I’ve heard is that he started cheating on her a lot…with other guys.
She’ll do much better career wise & love wise.
Good for Carey–she is FAR too good for Shia le Doof. He’s gross–unattractive, arrogant (in his interviews he makes it pretty clear that he thinks he’s the next Marlon Brando–um, no way!), and immature. She comes across in every public appearance as elegant, mature, and poised. She has–so far–been a good actress in the things I’ve seen her in, and I think she has potential to get even better. Shia, on the other hand, ruined the last Indiana Jones movie (not that it was all that great anyhow, but he made it worse). And I think even Transformers stretches his lack of acting abilities farther than they can really go. She is much better off without him.
That’s a bummer, because she seems to have her stuff together, and by extension he does as well.
They were a cute couple. C’est la vie.
hatsumomo: That’s how I felt about them too. From the get-go.
@Marjalane: Now that would be a major upgrade!
