Over the weekend, I did a post about these new photos we had of Prince William and Kate Middleton, who attended a wedding and even posed for some lovely photos as they were walking into church. Those photos – and the message they sent – made worldwide news, and a new and more hyperactive round of engagement rumors started up, not the first round that Will and Kate have experienced after eight years together. My take on the situation was that Waity Katy was smug because she knew the photos would buy her lots of positive press about how she could be the next Princess of Wales. I also thought that Will was probably placating her, doing the bare minimum to shut her up, because a photo op is easier than a proposal. Anyway, People Magazine got their cue and they’re running a cover story about Will and Kate and how they’ll be married forever and ever!
After years of anticipation, royal watchers say Kate Middleton may soon be walking down the aisle to wed the world’s most eligible bachelor.
One royal expert interviewed in this week’s PEOPLE cover story says Prince William will likely propose to his girlfriend of eight years in February 2011. “There won’t be an announcement before Christmas because William has got to ask the Queen first,” says longtime royal watcher Ingrid Seward. “And they will get married soon after.”
The fiercely private couple, both 28 – who almost always show up and leave events separately – sparked a new round of engagement rumors after appearing together at a friend’s Oct. 23 nuptials in Northleach, Gloucestershire. Shocking everyone, they strolled out of the stone church in full view of waiting photographers.
Might that have been a hint that their own wedding is next?
“There’s a sense this is the beginning, we may as well get used to seeing Kate in the royal arena,” says Ken Wharfe, the former bodyguard for William’s mother, the late Princess Diana. “As if this were a rehearsal.”

Oh for goodness sake. It’s not a rehearsal! She’s just a girl who has put all of her eggs into one basket, and who has no other option other than to cling to William. She doesn’t have a career. She doesn’t have any other prospects. She’s just there, for better or for worse. And I know there will be Middleton defenders who say “oh, maybe they’re in love and don’t feel the need to make it legit, I’m the same way!” You know what? You’re boyfriend isn’t the future Prince of Wales and the future King. Will’s ONLY real job in the world is to get married in the Church of England and continue the line. That’s it. Yes, he has “royal duties” but first and foremost the only thing he really has to do is just get married and have babies, and for God’s sake, if he really thought Kate was wife and mother material, he’s had ample opportunity and he hasn’t done it.
Maybe I’m wrong. Everyone really seems to think this is happening. But I think Will is trying to figure out a way to dump her and not look like an a–hole for stringing her along for eight years.

For a girl who put all of her eggs in one basket I hope she also put some in the deep freeze because at this rate, if and when they get married she may no longer be a spring chicken. These stories from ‘royal watchers’ (are they like bird watchers?) have been circulating for as long as she has.

I think that for the sake of appearances the Royal family would have put an end to this years ago if he weren’t at least fairly serious about her. The longer he dates her, the worse it will look when they split, and the more of an opportunity the press will have to play with the “William is a cad/user” angle. The longer they date the more LIKELY he is to marry her, in my opinion, just because of how flaky he would look if he didn’t. Because the Royal family has two jobs: procreation and PR.
Eh, I had a friend who just got married to her boyfriend of 7 years and no one believed it would happen but me, so I’m not jumping on the “he’s not going to marry her” bandwagon. Maybe they won’t get married, but he could just be waiting for the right time or maybe to grow up more or maybe he’s just not ready yet. It is kind of a big commitment!
I agree with Zelda, I do think he is going to marry her. But I why would she want to marry into that family? There must be an Earl or a Baron somewhere out there for her.
She needs a haircut, but that shade of blue is nice on her.
@BW – Too funny. Yes, Prince Charles and William do have that inbred look but that young Harry is mighty fine. He should be lucky he has a different dad or so everyone believes. She is boring looking and acting and he isn’t any better so they suit in that respect.

I have no respect for Waity Katy. She’s beautiful, but dull. She has no aspirations other than marrying this man. I think Will is just trying to find a way to dump her that doesn’t make him look bad.

I tend to agree with Sumodo1 @16. Waity Katie will do whatever it takes for that title. Learn how to shoot animals because William likes it, check. Allow herself to be humiliated as a doorstop for the last five years after graduating from a fine university, yup. Cash in on her relationship by getting sweetheart deals on new luxury cars which she parks in police zones in central London and free designer clothing, yes again. I will say this for Waity Katie: She is way smarter than William. He doesn’t stand a chance. These two are perfectly suited for each other. Who else, really, would want him?
Wow! Don’t get all the hatred for her. She works for her parents company, she’s dated one man for a long time. Who says she’s dying for a proposal? She may want to put it off for as long as possible being a member of “the firm” herself.

Diana would have been a wonderful Queen. This girl is no Diana. She isn’t doing ANYTHING but waiting for her meal ticket to marry her!!!
I don’t think Wills is a prize (he seems boring and aging badly!), but I would have so much more respect for him if he dumped her. Move on to someone you can’t wait to marry!
I would NOT date someone for 7 or 8 years without marriage. I think 3 years is my limit, without an engagement. If someone needs 7 years to be “ready” to commit to you, and you’re not a teenager than something is *wrong*. Life is too short to waste your time on someone who isn’t sure that he wants to be you!
Um, Kate DOES have her own career, something in fashion maybe? And I have friends who were together for TEN YEARS before they finally got married. The fact that they have been together for so long has absolutely no bearing on whether they will get married or not.

All those people talking about Harry hotness have defenitly not seen recents pics of him. The hot is going away and fast.( you can definitly see Charles genes in there… As if the royal family would accept him if he wasn’t from Charlie. And they propably did DNA test to be sure.)
Um, Kate has no “career” other than waiting around for William to pop the question.
Diana did the same thing. She put up with a lot from Charles while waiting for him to make up his mind. She fell in with whatever he wanted and meanwhile cried a lot because he wasn’t proposing (direct quote from her mother). Finally Prince Philip told Charles to get his finger out of his a** and make a decision.
Wonder how long Diana would have waited? YEARS, I’ll bet.
They look comfortable with each other to me. I’m not picking up on any weird body language at all in those photos, nor have I ever in any photos of these two. And I don’t think she looks smug, it looks to me like they were having a good giggle over something. Maybe one of the paps tripped over his own feet.

Maybe William likes her because she’s NOT a born aristocrat. He’s said time and again he wants to retain his connections with “real people,” as his mother Diana taught him that it was a mistake to live only in the royal bubble.
In defense of Kate, she tried working for a fashion retailer and it was a disaster. The paps followed her to and from work every day, and they pressured her fellow workers to spy on her. That’s why she ended up working for her parents.
The fact is, she can’t be William’s girlfriend and have a big career at the same time. She had to choose, and she chose him. I for one respect her choice.
And Camilla and Charles waited how long to make it legal? I don’t think Camilla had much going on for her either, what’s her day job?

WOW..can’t believe how many of you just assume Kate Middleton does NOTHING with her life. How do YOU know???? You don’t! It’s all pure speculation. These two look happy. They will work out their future to suit themselves. Give the girl a break. Jealousy does not become you.
I actually really like them both. Seem relatively low-key and down to earth. But, they met too young (for celebs, not in “real people” terms) for this relationship to last forever. If they marry, mark my words: they WILL divorce.
He can’t dump her. He’s not only been stringing her along for basically a decade, but he’s done it very publically. He made sure she was at his public events and even weddings. How does that not send the signal to the public and the media that this is the woman you’re going to marry? Now, has no choice but to marry her. Besides, no one else would want to marry him? No one. No woman in her right mind would marry into that family, which makes Kate (and William) look all the more pathetic.

Period. Couldn’t agree more, Kaiser. If he really wanted to marry her, he would have done so already. Obviously she’s not that important to him. She’s convenient to bring to social occasions like this one, as a date. That’s probably about it. She should be looking at other options instead of waiting on this one.
She really doesn’t “look the part” either, IMO. Her face looks older than her years – like she’s been around the block WAY too many times to be marrying a royal. She looks rode hard and put up wet. She’d look more compatible with a truck driver (no offense to truck drivers). I’ve always thought that William could do better.
I guess I’m the only one who thinks Harry is not attractive at all. I also think he resembles Diana’s brother, the current Earl Spencer.

It’s never going to happen with her. She doesn’t have the pedigree or any sort of “it” factor to be the future queen. She is not particularly attractive or graceful, and she has not been exactly warmly embraced by the rest of the royal family. That alone speaks volumes to her marriage-worthiness
Also, the two of them live together, openly. Buzzer noise here. The royal family has changed quite a bit in the last few decades, but that is a bit beyond the pale.
I have a feeling “The Firm” already has someone lined up for Wills. Kate will get some lovely parting gifts,and that will be that.
William is going to wait until he’s good and ready (read: pushed) to get married and get the hand-picked nubile thing knocked up. His father waited until he was 32 to (be forced) to marry, William is 28. The queen isn’t getting any younger, and she’s a big part of the show. Prediction: Marriage to someone we’ve probably never heard of will happen within 2-3 years.
To #29 – Not true that the royal family has not accepted Kate. She has met the Queen, and has spent vacations at Balmoral and at Broadlands, and also stayed at Charles’s country house. She’s been photographed hunting at Windsor Great Park with Prince Charles, giggling with Harry and Camilla, and double-dating with him and his ex-girlfriend Chelsey.
And if Kate isn’t qualified to be Queen because she lives with William and isn’t “attractive or graceful” enough — what about CAMILLA? She’s apparently OK to be queen and she was committing adultery with Charles for years! As for Camilla’s looks, we don’t want to go there…
He could be afraid the relentless media attention that finally killed his Mother, Diana, could be unleashed upon Kate when the do get married, and the only way they can have somewhat of a “normal” life for a while is to not formalise it. From the moment they do marry, that’s the end of shopping together for groceries (as they were filmed recently on CCTV, trying to be icognito) I believe (and hope) they will marry when they are ready to start a family.
You’d think someone that does nothing but prance around would age better… She doesn’t look a day under 40.
Look-Diana came from a truly aristocratic family-the Spencers have been in England for hundreds of years-way longer than the Windsors but make no mistake about it she was unstable and knew how to manipulate the press…
I dont know about Kate but the Windsors are evolving and becoming more like the Euro royals in that they marry commoners-Kate seems like she could be moulded to fit the job-which is shut up,produce the heir and the spare and realise that they exist but for the grace of the people.

Here’s the thing I just do not understand about Waity Katie: If she had actually done something with her life after graduation, 5 years ago now, she would have us all eating out of her hand today. Here she is with a degree from a fine university and what did she do with it? Play doorstop for William. No one would have demanded she find the cure for cancer or write a Nobel Prize winning novel. Just something, anything, she could call her own. Something with her own identity on it. She quit the Jigsaw job not because the paps were hounding her. She quit because she was never there and was off with William on expensive holidays. She quit her job with her mother’s company almost a year ago. To do what? Chelsy didn’t let the paps stop her from getting her graduate law degree and dumping Harry’s butt. I admire Chelsy for that. Kate could have had William and her own identity, but she chose to be a doormat. I can only surmise that she is exactly what William wants. What does that say about him?
