Yesterday, LaineyGossip broke the story that Leonardo DiCaprio and the newly single Blake Lively were spotted having dinner together (with a group). Then, just a few hours later, Us Weekly reported the same thing, confirming it. Congrats to Lainey for breaking so many stories lately!
Anyway, yes, Blake and Leo – they were out to dinner on Wednesday night, apparently there with a group of eight people, one of which was Baz Luhrmann. Baz is likely preparing his next project, another film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. Many think Leo has it in the bag for Jay Gatsby… and that Blake is trying to be his Daisy Buchanan. Lainey also reported that Tobey Maguire could be coming on as Nick Carraway. So… was it just a business meeting? Or has Blake found her next boyfriend? Or a little of both?
Lively meets Leo! Newly single Blake Lively dined with Leonardo DiCaprio at NYC eatery The Lion on Wednesday, an insider confirms to UsMagazine.com. (LaineyGossip.com first reported the sighting.)
But Lively, 23, and DiCaprio, 35, weren’t alone. “It was an 8 person dinner,” the insider explains, adding that director Baz Luhrmann was in attendance.
And the meal was strictly business: DiCaprio has been cast as Jay Gatsby in Luhrman’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic book — and Lively is being strongly considered for the role of Gatsby’s love, Daisy Buchanan.
The director’s “whole crew was there,” the source says, adding that DiCaprio and Lively “didn’t leave together.”
Lively would have to fight off strong competition to win the role of Daisy. Scarlett Johanson, Natalie Portman, Keira Knightley and Michelle Williams are also contenders, according to Deadline.
Lively and Gossip Girl costar Penn Badgley recently ended their three-year romance, her rep told Us Weekly exclusively last week.
DiCaprio is still going strong with Bar Refaeli, his model love of over four years.

I would actually like/love it if Blake and Leo became a couple, or just had some kind of brief, hot affair that ended his relationship with Bar, who I don’t really care for (I think she’s Single White Female-ing Gisele). But Blake as Daisy? Oh, no! NO. Blake needs to stretch her acting muscles at something else besides a classic American character like Daisy. So Blake, take my advice: your best role will be as some power player’s girlfriend, not as Daisy. Please.

if you could have michelle wlliams, why in the world would you consider blake? wiiliams is a great actress and the physical incarnation of a 20’s fitzgerald nymph. blake’s physicality is way too 2010 to play her.

blake was pretty impressive in The Town but i dont see her doing well in this Daisy role…
i think michelle williams is the best pick. she knows how to unravel, make herself completely vulnerable… also, i think most of the other actresses mentioned wouldnt have the right chemistry with leo… argh and scarlett is horrible choice as well…
as for mia farrow, she always creeped me out for some strange reason… never enjoyed her in the original.
Because Baz Luhrman is directing, we may not be getting a “replica” of the Gatsby, but something aimed at modern audiences. His rendition of Romeo and Juliet comes to mind…
If he is doing a modern take on Gatsby then Blake, with all her ambition, implants, and alleged dalliances with Weinstein may make the perfect Daisy. This analysis is based only on what I’ve read about the young woman (GG and Traveling Pants hold absolutely no interest for me).
To the extent that the Leo/Blake pairing make a sort of twisted sense in real life they would also represent a 2010 version of Gatsby.
I sincerely hope Luhrmann is doing something interesting with this, and won’t simply revert to using a soft focus lens and period costumes.
Michelle would make a WONDERFUL Daisey!! I am really excited about this remake; Baz has done some really wonderful work, aanndd some not so wonderful works. Gatsby is one of my favorite books EVER & I would hate to see Lively ruin it. I imagine that both Baz & Leo have much better sense than to cast her

I think Keira Knightly is right for Daisy of the contenders. Her face and manner strikes me as someone who could play aristocratic and self absorbed very easily. She’s also of the physical type popular then – thin, small busted. I think Michelle Williams could be a good choice too but I don’t think she’s enough of a contrast physically to Leo due to them both being round faced and similiar in looks.

Of gawd please don’t let it be Blake! How could she ever portray Daisy, a nervous wreck on the verge of collapsing, while keeping it together through manipulation and ambition. Daisy is one hot mess, and yet a beguiling narcissist. Granted anyone in Hollywood could portray the latter part of this complex character, but all the other conflicting layers are beyond Ms. Lively.
I love Leo, he is so talented. Michelle and Leo were amazing together in Shutter island.

@jaded, agree a hundred percent, i dropped my coffee cup when i read that boobs legsly was being considered for the role of daisy. mia farrow was perfectly waiflike, dreamy, idealistic, naive… everything that made daisy the character she was. i hate keira knightley, but even she’d do a better job. from the above list, though, my no-brainer choice is MICHELLE WILLIAMS. she can even wear that wave-curl that was so hot in the 20s!

Blake clearly hasn’t proven herself enough for this role. I can only think of two reasons why they would bother auditioning her: 1) as a favor to someone, and 2) Leo finds her attractive and wanted to know more. She’s been public about her crush on him so she’d probably be an easy lay. He’s always looking for those when he’s alone, though usually prefers his regular girls at the clubs because they don’t draw so much attention to his horndog ways.
He’s in a “strong relationship”? That’s a larf. The only thing strong about it is the D-list model’s desperation to remain his official girlfriend and his desire to live his life exactly the way he pleases, which includes screwing around.
