I’m not sure I have the words to respond to Katherine Heigl’s December cover for W Magazine. Um… err…is it bad? W Magazine has had a new editor for the past few months (thus, that dumb Kim Kardashian cover), but it feels like they’re trying to make the magazine like Vanity Fair now. This has a very “Demi Moore shot by Annie Leibovitz” feel to it. That being said, I think Naleigh is gorgeous and precious and lovely, and NOT JUST because she’s raising her beautifully chubby little arm in a mock-triumphant pose of “Behold, my mother, The A–hole.” And Hegel is all “Yup, I’m an a–hole, but my baby is really cute, y’all” pose. Here are a couple of interview excerpts:
Katherine Heigl posed with her gorgeous adopted baby daughter Naleigh for the cover of W magazine’s ‘The Family Issue.’
Katherine says she adopted Naleigh, who was born in Korea with a congenital heart problem that was corrected through surgery, just ‘three or four days’ before she starting filming ‘Life As We Know It.’
“I was about to play a woman who inherits a baby, and I was experiencing the exact same thing,” she said.
Inside the magazine she also poses with more of her family, including mom Nancy and sister Meg.
“My sister is Korean,” Katherine said. “I hope one day she and Naleigh will be able to talk about what it’s like to be adopted.”
The actress says there was ‘no way in hell’ she was going to get rid of her six dogs before Naleigh arrived – and is happy she didn’t.
“Naleigh loves them,” she said. “Sometimes it reminds me of The Jungle Book. I’m like, ‘Oh my God – she’s being raised by animals!’.”
[From Hollywood News]
“No way in hell” she would get rid of her dogs? Jesus, Heigl even makes being an animal lover sound bitchy and sanctimonious. I mean, I get the love for dogs, and I probably wouldn’t get rid of my puppy either. But I also wouldn’t stridently announce that there is “no way in hell” that I would change anything for a baby.
Also: I really think Heigl is taking my advice – she’s just taking about the baby in interviews, and keeping her mouth shut about other stuff.

She may be an asshole but that is a very nice cover photo.
I don’t like when celebrities pose with their kids on the cover of magazines.
She just complained last month about the press’s interest in her baby. Then she puts the kid on a magazine?
Ditto, Olivia. Her daughter is adorable, but we’ll see how long it is before she’s complaining about privacy again.
I think she’s realized that’s one of the few soft spots the public has for her.
That girl is adorable!!! And I’m not “Aaaw all kids are precious cutie pies” person. Just look at her chubby little feet on the cover!
That poor Asian baby looks so sad in every shot. Katharine heigl should have either had her own baby (which I’m sure she didn’t bc she is so vain she wouldn’t want to lose weight, get saggy tits, & stretched out va jay jay) so she adopted this poor Korean girl to get more publicity from the paps for this racial integrated adoption. Katherine heigl should be named Katherine O Toole.
I feel like she’s been a baby forever while other celebrity babies are adults now. Why does time appear to move slower for Heigl?
The baby is soooo cute!!
Boombeeba- Your comment makes very little sense. Why should she have had her own baby? If her plan was to do this for attention she shouldn’t have had a child either way. As much as I don’t like her I do believe her reasons for it. I don’t think it was racially motivated, she wanted to adopt from the country her sister is from. Also, what was the other option (“She should either”)? Why do you not capitalize the “H.”
Why did she adopt a baby days before she started a movie? I find that stranger than the “no way in hell” comment. I do agree that, based on this, her interviews are getting better.
Liana, time seems to move slower because it is Heigl. She’s so obnoxious that a minute feels like it lasted an hour.
‘“No way in hell” she would get rid of her dogs? Jesus, Heigl even makes being an animal lover sound bitchy and sanctimonious.’
I get it her attitude about this. When you have a kid people get pushy and judgemental about animals. Get pregnant and you’ll have people telling you your cat will lay on the baby, your dog will eat the baby. It gets old and everyone has an opinion.
Heck when I was pregnant with my 2nd child a doctor put me in the same high risk category as a crack user b/c I told him I wasn’t getting rid of my cat.
@icantbelievethis: pretty douchey of your doctor and another strike against me even considering having a kid: people’s sanctimony about motherhood…
as for naleigh, she is too cute [and i am not much of a kid person, per se]
Well, she’s realized that her adorable baby is one of the only things people like about her, so she’s focusing on that.
Although she has admitted that Naleigh much prefers her daddy, Josh Kelley…so even the baby is on to Heigl.
I hate the idea that people might need to get rid of their animals just because they have kids. That’s why so many animals end up in the pound. Unless your animal is a danger to you or others, there is no reason to get rid of it. Animals and children can co-exist quite peacefully. And most children actually benefit from having pets. It teaches them responsibility and empathy. I actually admire Katherine for what she said about her dogs. And I never thought I’d admire Dame Heigel for anything.
Naleigh is so beautiful.
Naleigh is so cute but I hate the cover. Something about it seems off.
loooove love looooooove her
Is she wearing fake teeth in that last photo?? NOT a good dress/boots combo either – she looks like a lump.
Naleigh is a wee cutie though.
That cover is a great idea! Not really. I hate celebs posing with their kids!!!! Don’t get me started on the smith family and the greed that sheds out of their kids’ eyes. It’s like Lindsay lohans sister . . . same greedy eyes.
Anyways . . .
Kat looks great, but the baby ? well she’s not a professional model or anything so . . .
whatcha going to do . . .?
The fat baby is cute though!!!!!!!!
Ok the child is super cute! but… that picture is not flattering the child looks like she is reaching for help, she looks uncomfortable. Well I can understand the poor kid… if my mother was Heigel I would be asking for help also.. Lol
Where are you people from anyway?
Deaf, dumb and clearly blind.
sorry, can someone fill me in on this distaste for Katherine Heigl? I don’t know much about her….
The wee one is very sweet 🙂 But I have to admit a cackle escaped when I read
““Behold, my mother, The A–hole.” Kaiser you kill me sometimes…. LOLOLOL
Using her adoption to sell herself right after admitting she has likeability probs and wants to figure out a way to keep her rom com career.
Using your kids to make money. Classay.
I love this cover. It’s so cute. The baby is adorable.
Nice accessoire, Heigl!
I hope Naleigh will stay cute, because if she grows up to be ugly, she’ll get the treatment of Tom Cruise’s adopted kids.
She’s fishing for some good publicity…shame on her for using her kid
This is bad I know.. but in that last pic it looks like she is snatching the child from that woman in the background to her right.
But that little girl is all kinds of cute..
I will admit I love the pics of celebs with their newborns. Mainly because those are such early shots and the kids change so much after you couldn’t recognize them. But after a certain age I say no to cover shots. And yeah I won’t go to The Smiths too obvious. YET they seem to get a pass on being Stage Parents. Other celebs would be hung out to dry.
I think the cover photo is great. It just belongs on another magazine like Woman’s Day or the equivalent. I agree with covers like that and topics like are listed on the cover W is not the same anymore.
Oh I love those first photos that came out of her baby, omg it was the cutest thing
@Lindsay: They originally weren’t supposed to be able to bring Naleigh home for two months and by then Katherine was supposed to be done with the movie. The adoption got pushed forward faster than expected because of Naleigh’s special needs.
@Boombeeba: Naeleigh is Katherine’s own child. I think the term you’re searching for here is “biological child.” It’s kind of offensive to imply that a child who has been adopted is not the child of the people who adopted her.
She doesn’t look sad to me. Katherine Heigl is gorgeous and if the baby has two young wealthy parents who are good people and really love her, growing up should be fun. That baby is really hunky baby fat-wise. Apart from the “little empresses” who went to Sweden, most Chinese adopted babies obviously appear to have Mongolian ancestry. Should be interesting watching them grow into their looks.
I don’t think she was being sanctimonious at all and to the poster who thinks she should have had her own child? Why is that exactly? Our planet is full of children who need homes so why should anyone HAVE to have a biological child. My sister was adopted from china and both she and I are very happy that our parents decided to adopt! Her life would have been horrible in a Chinese orphanage. I will definitely be adopting and my first choice will be from china
tacky, tacky, tacky. they both look beautiful, but seriously W. Magazine? It looks like a portrait that would hang in the entry of Katherine’s Beverly Hills mansion. tacky.
The baby is a cutie, but that photo of Heigl is awful.
The baby is beautiful and the cover too.
If Katherine had been looking at her beautiful daughter I would have been a much better photo.Instead it looks like Naleigh is trying to get her attention and she can’t be bothered.
The cover is pretty enough and Naleigh is an adorable child. I don’t like celeb kids, particularly when they’re small, on or in any magazine so I can’t really feel too positively about this. From the little lines between Naleigh’s eyes it looks like she’s about to start screaming lol.
I’m a lot more interested in seeing the photo of Madonna and Lourdes.
Beautiful photo but I’m not a fan of celebrities posing with their children for magazines, especially cover shots. That child deserves her privacy. I can kind of see it if the celebrity is using it to remove the “papparazzi bounty” on a new addition (especially if they donate the money to charity), but to pose just to further your career, is unseemly in my opinion.
@lilred, you hit the nail in the head. I was thinking the same thing. And what on earth is she wearing on the last pic? she looks like a lump of potato sack!
“I’m like, ‘Oh my God – she’s being raised by animals!’.”
Yes-she is.
That looks like a photo that’s been “enhanced” with paint, like the portrait in the movie “Laura.”
I get that Heigl is annoying, but that cover photo is bee-yoo-tee-full!!
The cover is lovely!
@Boombeeba: Naeleigh is Katherine’s own child. I think the term you’re searching for here is “biological child.” It’s kind of offensive to imply that a child who has been adopted is not the child of the people who adopted her.
————————
Perfectly said, Grace. Thank you (from the mother of a beautiful adopted girl).
This bitch is a hypocrite! Isn’t she always ranting and raving about her ‘privacy’ and keeping her daughter out of the spotlight? Then when her career hits the skids, she pulls out the baby photo-op thing??
Yeah. That’s sincere.
I know Naleigh had/has a heart defect that has been corrected but I don’t think her Mother needed to stick a “special needs” label on her, I think it was more about Katherline saying “see how wonderful and selfless I am.”
Adorable baby, but……Heigl for the cover? Really?
