Julia Roberts in L’Wren Scott: totally boring, or totally classic?

Julia Roberts was one of several women honored last night at Glamour Magazine’s Women of the Year event. Julia wore L’Wren Scott, and her award was not for acting, but for her charity work. I was looking around for a good shot of the dress, but most of the photos are of Julia in the coat. Which is fine – the coat is great. Here’s a shot of just the dress:

Elizabeth Moss was there! She was my favorite of the night – I love this little Reem Acra cocktail dress – it’s age appropriate, event appropriate, and she looks cute as hell. Love the color.

Kate Hudson was also at the event – as a presenter. Her dress is Lanvin. What the hell is happening with Lanvin this season? Every starlet is wearing the line, and it all looks like cheap, dated hell. This dress was one of my least favorites.

As was Hilary Swank’s Versace. Ugh, damn it Hilary. Wear something SOFT. When you wear something this structured, it just emphasizes the horse.

Fergie wore Sonia Rykiel. I don’t hate it.

And finally, Cher. Cher told the audience, “What I want you girls and what I want for everyone, especially women, is that they don’t take no for an answer because no is just some bullsh-t word that someone made up.” Except that saying “no” is a powerful thing, especially when it comes to saying “no” to some of this crappy fashion.

She should’ve worn it without the coat. Or, at least, get a longer coat. The dress looks great, though.

  2. devilgirl says:

I like the Lanvin, except hate the exposed zipper. Not a fan of that look on evening gowns. I like the Versace, and I think Swank looks fine in it. The Rykiel is pretty on Fergie.

Sorry Kaiser, Moss looks great, but I hate the blue and the shoe color, imo, sucks.

  3. constance says:

Holy horseface batman! Hilary looks bad… It’s also Autumn, put that barely there chainmail mess away.

Kate Hudson looks like Kate. Makeup is half arsed. Hair is half arsed. Looks like someone put her away wet and didn’t leave a toilette. The zipper is… not fashion. Not fashion at all.

  4. womanfromthenorth says:

    Kate’s dress is tackie.. yuck

Julia needs to… well find someone who can alter things.

  5. GimmeABreak says:

Standing next to Fergie was probably a bad idea. Fergie looks amazing in that dress! Julia looks like she borrowed her Mom’s dress.

  6. Arianna says:

yeah i dont like moss’ shoes colour but the dress is gorgeous on her! her calf muscles are insane!!

i actually kind of like kate hudson’s dress, just not the material. the colour and cut are nice.
and julia’s dress is boring as hell…

dont even want to talk about hilary’s “thing” she’s wearing

  7. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Lanvin is opening a line at H&M which means the everyday woman will get her hands on some…like this one over here. I assume the stars are just as excited as we are, IDK.

I like Kate and Moss. I like Julia’s look when she is on stage.

  8. BIte me says:

Moss is ugly as sing, horseface Julia looks great

  9. Raven says:

I’m right there with the blue dress and yellow shoes. Looks like she was in a hurry and grabbed any pair of heels out of her closet. Love the dress, though.

Julia looks matronly here. And, sadly, the coat seems like the car coats my mother always wore–except for the fabric, of course. I’ve seen Julia look better.

I liked Fergie’s dress. It made her look like herself. I was also fine with Kate Hudson’s dress.

When I saw Cher, my first thought was “batwing”. But Cher has been stretching the term “couture” for years so who can criticize. I love Cher for who she is.

  10. Scarlet Vixen says:

I like Julia’s coat, but she looks like Morticia Addams on stage. I love Moss’ dress, but afree that a different shoe color would’ve really made the look. HATE the zipper on Kate Hudson’s dress. And why does she always look like the got ready the day, then drank til she passed out, then woke up to show up to an event??

  11. Mizz Tickles says:

Short hair complements Hilary Swank’s feature moreso than long.

  12. OtherChris says:

Julia is starting to look like she shops at Chiccos.

  13. Ellen Smith says:

Julia’s dress is boring and makes her look very wide in the hips. The shoes are great. Hilary is starting to channel Mr. Ed and Seattle Slew. Her dress is atrocious. Elizabeth Moss – great dress, great color – so what the hell happened to the shoes? Also, she could use an accessory or two – a long earring, a cuff, or a necklace.

  14. tracking says:

I’m obviously in the minority, but I think Julia looks great. She’s never been a girly girl starlet; the dress is sophisticated, understated, and nicely suits her (tiny bit fuller than usual) figure. It’s a classic dress; I love it. Can see why others find it boring compared to the others though, but other than Moss, I think they’re a little TACKY (lol).

  15. Lady Jane says:

She looks pretty. We are just used to the Karadashian (possible type but I refuse to google it) type excess of glitz and tackiness.

Leave Julia alone- her hair and face are beautiful and her dress is perfectly lovely.

  16. K-MAC says:

Julia needs to stop acting like she is 80 and get with the program!

She needs to start exercising and get back into shape and stop wearing sh*t that makes her look frumpy and old (like she is headed out for the early bird special at iHop).

  17. Roxanne75 says:

Wow Fergie looks drop dead gorgeous! WOW

  18. Granger says:

Does anyone know what these awards were all about? That is, what exactly did Julia Roberts do this year to win a Woman of the Year title?

I don’t like Julia’s dress at all, but her shoes, hair and make-up are fabulous.

  19. Stronzilla says:

Whoa, who’s goosing Jules in the first picture.

  20. Miss A says:

I guess if Julia’s dress was cut at the knee it would’ve looked much much better. But the shoes are awesome. And the coat is not.

I actually don’t mind the shoes with the dress on Elizabeth. I think if she had gone for a more electric yellow it would better match the electric blue and would’ve looked spectacular.

The cut on Hilary’s dress is fabulous, but yeah…tone it down, girl.

I…I just don’t care for Kate or that mess of a bed sheet.

  21. original kate says:

hilary swank should shoot the person who did that to her.

  22. lala in nYc says:

love elizabeth’s dress and the color!

is she still wearing her wedding ring?

  23. jb says:

    wow- worst fashion pictorial ever

  24. Anti-icon says:

Julia’s dress is good….finally. Coat, meh. The zipper Lanvin is obviously some mix up with her child’s dress up box. Fergie looks great here, she rarely goes formal. And Cher, babe, I got you no matter what you drag out of your closet from the 80s tour– on you, it works.

  25. Bobby the K says:

Someone told me years ago that one of the signs of insanity is to see whites at the top of the eyes. If you can do it in the mirror and smile you look really nuts.

That is one goofy looking award.

And what’s with all the excess fabric? It seems like a waste and no fun to walk in.

  26. Hautie says:

    Favorite: Elizabeth Moss.

She has had some really great dresses to wear in the last year. Love this blue one. Alot.

    Tragic: Kate Hudson.

Had the dress not had some tragic big ass zipper going up one side of it… it could have been a great dress.

    WTH?: Julia Roberts.

Had she worn a girdle and hose she would have looked great. Face it girls. You need foundation garments.

Going commando is never a good look. Especially in clingy fabrics.

  27. Str8Shooter says:

What the f*&# is up with Horsey’s stupid smirk-face? This bitch goes out of her WAY to be as freakin’ annoying as possible.

Horribly overrated actress. Still delusional that the world thinks she is the Queen of the Box Office.

  28. bagladey says:

Cher’s outfit “rocks” and Fergie looks hot, everyone else is b-o-r-i-n-g.

  29. Az says:

I love Julia’s dress. Love that shape, love the length and the animal print shoes are a great touch.

  30. wunderkindt says:

Cher is ‘Cher’, so anything goes, Julia looks like a funeral, Moss looks peppy, Hudson’s dress is an uber-zippered disaster, and poor Swank just cant get around having the most unattractive messed up looking face in all of Hollywood history. . .

  31. kiki says:

Julia’s dress looks a little matronly but it’s ok. Don’t like the coat. She just seems like she knows that she’s bigger and she is self-conscious. I feel bad for her, actually. She’s just not Hollywood thin anymore.

I think Kate Hudson looks like a 40s pin-up. Very retro. I like it.

    Fergie is ok.

Hate Hillary Swank’s outfit and look.

    And Cher is Cher.

    I like Moss the best.

  32. Ruffian9 says:

Dumpy. And what the hell is going on with her eye?

  33. Belle Epoch says:

Wow – I guess I’m in the minority. I think Julia looks like she belongs on the Upper East Side with a walker. She must have chosen black because she thinks it looks slimming. No, it looks like a funeral.

  34. victoria says:

cher never says ‘NO’ to plastic surgery.

  35. Jazz says:

So rich people get awards for doing charity work now?? Julia looks like a bag lady. I like Cher but what the hell happened to her face?!

  36. mystified says:

Julia’s looking really frumpy and matronly. That too dark hair has got to go. Love everything about Elizabeth Moss.
