I don’t know when Vogue is going to release their January cover interview and photo shoot, so I just thought I’d bring you the cover now. Natalie Portman, shot by Peter Lindbergh. The dress is J. Mendel. Natalie is the January cover girl to promote Black Swan, the film that will likely get her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, if not the award. It’s surprising to me that so many people are calling it Natalie’s year to win – earlier this year, there was some talk of the Best Actress contenders being Annette Bening, Julianne Moore and Hilary Swank. But now most critics are ready to hand it off to Natalie… she would be one of the youngest Best Actress winners, at the age of 29. Hilary Swank was younger than that… as was Gwyneth.
As for the cover shot… Natalie’s face is so weird lately. She’s always been breathtakingly beautiful in my opinion, but lately we’ve been plagued with Natalie’s spectacular bitchface. I would almost hope the cover shot would be another bitchface, but in this shot, she looks like she’s about to burst into tears. What the hell?
Also – some commenters were asking/theorizing about Natalie’s maybe-plastic surgery…? Some of you think she’s had a nose job, but I don’t see it. I think that’s always been her nose. However, has Natalie always had those lips? Why are they all of a sudden really Lohan-esque?
Cover courtesy of The Fashion Spot.
I don’t think she’s had her lips done. Just looks like a good make-up job to me.
She really is gorgeous.
she does look like a total bitch in these!
maybe everyone thinking she’s so amazing is finally getting to her head?
she seems like she would not be too nice if i ever were to meet her
gorgeous
she is gorgeous. that shade of red couldn’t be more perfect…anyone know what shade it is?
very underwhelming for a vogue cover
She really looks gorgeous but it really does look like her inner bitch has won the battle & broken through. YIKES!!
Natalie is stunning. People with their plastic surgery theories are sooo annoying!!! Nat is beautiful and so are lot of actresses get it over, most didn’t have work done.
I just love her after seeing Black Swan. I can’t wait to read the interview. I have to say in Black Swan she was amazing. I was blown away and pretty terrified, it was kinda scary. Nat just attacked that role. I loved it. I wanna talk about it so bad, I am not going to though but yes Nat should win, I mean after watching the film the title of the film really suits what happened to Nat’s character. OMG Just go see it. I am gonna see it again.
@Arianna I know someone who went to high school with her she has always been a huge bitch.
But she is really talented.
Her lips look bigger because she’s wearing red lipstick. Duh.
Natalie has looked the same her whole entire life, basically. I say this because she and I are the same age, and I’ve grown up watching her movies. She’s growing older naturally, and she obviously takes pretty good care of herself. I’ll bet she ages GORgeously, too.
I think she’s a little goddess, and she’s got the talent to back it up. LOVE her, and I love that cover. Vogue finally got it right.
She’s always been a giant pretentious bitch, her face is just now catching up to her personality.
I don’t see something that screams PLASTIC SURGERY in her face. The lips are the same, and I don’t like them, they gave her face a repulsed look. Her nose seems different sometimes but it may be because of swelling or makeup, in fact the profile is always the same no matter what.
Um, I don’t like that cover, she actually looks like she’s crying or about to sneeze. And she has a very dramatic face, that’s why I think she’s better when styled in modern clothes, makeup and hairdo.
Gorgeous!
She is beautiful and has been since a child. She’s has also had the full lips since a child. Look at pictures from the film The Professional when she was 13.
Beautiful!!
Ouch, y’all! She may be a bitch, but she is pretty.
She’s beautiful. Flawless, as always.
not fussed on her either way but i love the dress she’s wearing on the cover!
beautiful but bland – kinda just like natalie
she looks beautiful and seems very nice and sweet. I like her cause she’s not that kind of girl who is famous for cheap fhm pictures and showing ass and boobs like Jessica Alba and Megan Fox.
Call me crazy, but I wish there were models on Vogue covers instead of celebrities.
She looks gorgeous to me! but I love the wordy “WEEPY”..
I’ll have to find a way to use it in my everyday life..LOL
LOVE it!
“Darling, you look so weepy this morning, what is it?”
She looks absolutely beautiful. Is this the same little girl from “The Professional”?
She’s very pretty and extremely talented, but something about her bugs the hell out of me. I can’t put my finger on it, but it’s there.
she’s gorgeous but she looks alike Freida Pinto here:i guess too many photoshop
I’m more concerned about that hair on the cover. What is going on?
look at before/after pic of her nose. it was totally done. good job, but it was much wider before.
I loved NP’s role as Mathilda in one of her first movies, The Professional and I still admire her today. She is indeed a talented actress who steps out of the box.
I think the girl is stunning. Is she a biotch? Geez who knows, odds favor a yes but I bet the same could be said for Goddess Jolie or a myriad of other actresses/starlets in the public eye.
Nah she always had those lips too. Anyway the dress is really beautiful, I’ll say stunning. Natalie is a beautiful woman.. but why the bitchface? I can see it through the photoshoot..not tears but a good “Shut the fuck up” written right on her forehead.
I’m pretty sure she’s had a nose job but I don’t see any difference in her lips. Her nose shrunk a bit a few years ago. I think her father is a plastic surgeon so I doubt she’s against it. http://conversationsfamouspeople.blogspot.com/2005/05/no-such-thing-as-natural-beauty.html
So beautiful.
@Guenevere #30, in the picture on the right she was probably 15yo, obviously her nose was wider, she was a little girl.
During the V for Vendetta period her nose was very thin, and for that reason I thought that she had had some work done. But in recent pictures her nose looks as wide as it was before V for Vendetta. Odd.
The only pictures that can give us clues of some plastic surgery are the ones of her profile. And her profile looks the same to me.
Wow, looks like Vogue is finally easing up on the Photoshop abuse. I think the body and the head might have started out in the same picture, unlike for instance Gwyneth Paltrow’s alien of doom of May ’08.
Fake nose but who cares? She’s gorgeous and the surgeon did a good job. The Vogue cover is a bit bland/ washed out but I’m sure it will sell well – she’s skinny and wears clothes well.
I don’t really understand when people say that she’s had work done, like her nose or lips. Portman’s been famous for a while now, long enough that you can look through photos for years and see that most, if not all, changes her look has gone through has simply been age.
She looks absolutely stunning on the cover. I don’t like her makeup for the black dress/red lipstick ensemble. Whoever did it, I would fire. I think the red is too far toward magenta for her skin tone. It’s too harsh. And the lashes…why would you clump it dramatically on the top, then leave the bottom lashes completely bare? I don’t get it.
Call me old-fashioned but I want to see high fashion models on Vogue covers, not actresses; shouldn’t being in an acclaimed movie be enough attention? Anne wintour has ruined vogue by her obsession with actresses – though I’ll admit ms. Portman is way better than Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, etc.
She’s stunning.
Gorgeous!
She is gorgeous.
But does she have a scar on her chest? In those last 2 pics it kind of looks like the letter tso and maybe x?
@jover I agree that Anna Wintour, aka. mushroom head, has ruined American Vogue. Don’t we see enough actresses on every other magazine? I want to see fashion with a capital F, when I look at vogue. Not another parade of who has a movie or tv show to plug. Or in the case of Blake, “I’m really skinny, and blonde so I guess I’ll do another cover” Lively.
I think she is beautiful too and I notice she looks more stunning with her hair up. But, why would she go from the Black Swan to lowering herself to play in a movie with Ashton Kutcher?
Natalie and Reese probably get their bitchy reputations because they refuse to cavort with the hollywood lowlifes. I wouldn’t be seen hanging out with losers either.
Beautiful, yes. A dancer, hell no.
@Solveig, she was bald for V for Vendetta, could that have altered the look of her nose? (btw, I’m just asking, not being sarcastic or anything).
If she is a bitch, so what, we don’t have to deal with her. I remember her mostly from Beautiful Girls and just thinking she was so stunning at such a young age, I was jealous.
Know what I just noticed? She’s got scars on the right side of her chest. They’re photoshopped in the vogue cover. I wonder what they’re from. And she does look good I’ll admit.
Speaking of Black Swan, why in the world is the studio holding back in releasing this movie? It started out in 18 theaters and even after great reviews it’s only playing in 90. So far it’s only earned $5 million two weeks after its release. You’d think the studio would have marketed this movie better.
I just can’t *stand* the odd, sheer material up by her collarbone area. At first I thought it might be a bad photoshop job messing up the color of her skin. It’s just the wrong color which makes it odd. And she does have scars, I never noticed. One of them looks like a little ‘X’.
Actually, *most* actresses have had some sort of cosmetic surgery, So many that I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if Natalie had. Most just make sure it’s subtle and little at a time. I only recently realized that Halle Berry had her nose refined/thinned out, as did Beyonce, and people all over the world think they look like a ‘goddess’. It’s just a fact of life in show business. It can be very useful to those who have their picture taken constantly. Tiny changes in a nose especially.
I do not see any change in her nose and lips aside from the changes that a different makeup job may present (red lips). She has always been claissically beautiful with aclassically beautiful face. I find it funny that some people say that she is a bitch and there is inevitably one person who has a friend or a freind of a friend who went to school with so called bitch. I am sure that she is no bitchier or no nicer than anyone else. She does however look gorgeous on the cover (as usual) and more importnatly she is an extremely talented actress.
@Bee: Anna Wintour is the reason I cancelled my subscription to Vogue. The magazine sucks. British Vogue is way better, but in the US it costs $12 per copy.
@Hukura. I just recently discovered that too. I spent about 4 hours looking through goodplasticsurgery.com and am amazed how much work people have done but it looks so good!
I only read Vogue Australia now. I find it much better than the US and UK Vogues.
I’ve always found Natalie to be a very pretty girl and I admire her work. I can’t wait to see Black Swan. But to me she isn’t strikingly unique or beautiful.
You guys wanna see her bitchface?
Has anyone seen the rap sketch she did for Saturday Night Live? If you haven’t, youtube it!
I flippin love it!
Holy lip plumping!
@Persistent Cat, I think that a bald head emphasizes someone’s features, and maybe for that reason her make-up artist probably “fixed” the nose making it thinner. The only thing I’m sure of is that her nose now looks like the one she had before V.
shes very pretty, but bland. She doesnt have “it” that thing thats makes her face super special, she’s not capitvating.
Lacking charisma or something
I know she is very young but I thought she had her nose tweaked years ago and the reason I remember it is the quote mentioned that “even someone considered extremely beautiful by others felt the need to get plastic surgery.”
or something along those lines…
I think that cover photo is the most gorgeous I’ve ever seen her. She looks mean and unhappy in the other photos.
I didn’t know there were plastic surgery rumors about Natalie but she just looks plain old pregnant to me. Whatever is going on it’s definitely taking away from her good looks.
Maybe it’s the weight-loss for Black Swan but she looks really harsh lately. Anyway, she has the bone-structure to carry it off and dark lipstick is always risky.
She almost looks like Andie MacDowell in the cover pic.
She’s not a bitch– Just hungry! Eat, Natalie, eat!
GORGEOUS! The best photos I have ever seen of her!! She actually looks healthy! The photos from her DIOR shots, however make her look very old and almost drugged. Not a good color for her lips or her cheeks. Just my opinion…
She’s pretty.
She has very hooded eyes. When they do her with lots of dark eye shadow on the upper lids, it makes her look softer and doe-eyed. In the red lips photos, she has mostly just lots of clumpy spiky mascara on, and that makes her eyes look hard and bitchy IMO.
@Cheyenne all of the international Vogue’s are better than the dreck Anna Wintour produces. The British one is great, as you mentioned. I know French so I can read the French edition .And I just look at Vogue Italia for the pictures.
She looks beautiful in the vogue cover and not like she’s about to burst into tears… more like she’s lost in thought. I think I’m going to get myself a copy. That third picture posted is atrocious. She should avoid that shade of red at all costs and she does look pissed.
Kind of off topic, but I hope Jennifer Lawrence receives an Oscar nomination for her incredible performance in “Winter’s Bone.” I haven’t had a chance to see “Black Swan” (it still hasn’t come to my podunk town), and I’m sure Natalie is as outstanding as everyone claims, but I really think Ms. Lawrence deserves to be recognized for one of the best performances of the year by any actor, male or female.
Ps: I think Natalie looks stunning on the Vogue cover.
I think I see facial fillers in her cheeks, and maybe a slight chin reduction? Her face looks longer and thinner in the top picture.
She’s certainly very physically beautiful but I think she’s definitely had something liptastic done recently, which is… bizarre! I will never know why people pursue this look. If you’re not born with them, you were never meant to look this way!
no fake nose or lips. a stunning natural beauty. Unbelievably outside of our perceptions and realities of Hollywood fakes they do exist. Natalie Portman has always been stunningly beautiful.
A J. Mendel dress? Aren’t they a fur company? What about her vegan clothes and shoe line?
Tough crowd.
I think she is stunning and she is a smart girl as well. I like her because she is not the norm hw type.
Cannot wait to see this film.
She looks.. kindof a little bit like Andy Macdowell to me in the cover. Weird.
striking
A couple of bad photos and all of a sudden she has ‘b1tchface’ honestly!!!
She is stunningly beautiful, love the cover (tho pretty sure there has been a certain amount of photoshopping)
I think the b1tchface is because of the red lips… she can’t pull it off, or at least, she hasn’t found the proper shade yet. Neutral lips look so much better on her
beautiful….
She is the cutest actress in holywood by far. And she is so smart and never makes an ass out of herself I love her!!!
